There is so much focus on romantic/sexual relationships lately. Friendships are incredibly important for characters too, and deserve as much love and attention as romantic/sexual relationships.

☎️ my first character i ever roleplayed: My werewolf OC that was part of the circus. (I honestly don't remember his name anymore) 🚕 my most embarrassing roleplay moment: My sentence was "she made his heartbeat faster" and autocorrect changed "heart" to "hand" so I was the butt end of many, many w*nking jokes. 🍷 a character i want to write but never made a blog for: No such thing exists. If I've wanted to try a character I've made a blog for it. I deleted most because they're not successful. (and I have deleted all of them except Ava, Zuko and my current OC so goes to show my failures as an RPer) 🦄 the best thing that's happened to me in roleplay this year: The Hogwarts AU has consumed my RP life in the best and most unexpected way... 📒 three blogs i couldn't live without: @starwrittenfates and @secrets-to-lose The third one is a secret because I don't want that person to get harassed off the site if people find out said person has a tumblr and I would simply wither without their beautiful, soul inspiring music. 🛍 the one thing i wish all of my followers knew about me: I don't necessarily want people to know it, but I think it is only fair for people to know that I have a condition related to having had covid so if I ever disappeared it isn't because I didn't want to RP anymore, it is because my condition checked me out of the hotel of life. i lied. put your clothes back on. let’s talk about why cursed child is so overly hated and criticised but is actually one of the most beautiful, raw and complex pieces of work in the harry potter franchise.
I love chill roleplay partners that don’t mind when you go mia for a while and totally understand that some weeks you’re just busy and some days you’re not even busy you just don’t want to deal with the world in general/don’t want to do a thing and who don’t think that just bc you haven’t talked in a week or two that means the plot is dead and who don’t need to be in daily contact with you to enjoy writing/talking/plotting with you and I love that when we finally have so time time to talk/rp we just pick up right where we left off and it’s never weird or awkward God bless u guys

Prying open the weapons locker with bare hands and synthetic strength he grabbed one of the EM rifles and handed it over to her while grabbing another for himself. "We'll use these to deal with the crew." It was harmless and perhaps far more than what the doctor deserved, but he would try to preserve life where he could. "When you're ready." He flipped the switch on the side to activate it, though he suspected it wouldn't be much use against the terrormorphs.

"Very well." He approached the panel and being machine himself found hacking into the doctor's files much easier and much quicker than she had. "The doctor is a part of The UC Xenowarfare Division. Occisio machina... or terrormorph as they've been named are Xeno weapons being tested." He continued pouring over the information quickly and then took notice of something that would no doubt interest her. There was a Research Lab on Kreet... and... well this didn't bode well at all. "The Doctor is planning to release the terrormorphs on Akila City to wipe out the resistance leadership and put down your rebellion. It would seem this has just been the test run and judging by how well they wiped the soldiers..." It didn't need to be said what would happen with untrained civilians.

no bc i'm still hung up on this post and how oc's are expected to deliver more background information than anyone else and i'm here to once again emphasize how crucial interaction and engagement is to their own development both for the character and the writer behind them.
canon characters have the luxury of appearing "more fleshed out" / "self-explanatory" simply because we've witnessed them interact with other characters on screen. oc's don't get to have that when they are first created.
oc's start from scratch. and they can only build themselves based on the way they relate to others. it's literally how humans work.
so, you want to know more about oc's? engage. how? lemme give you some tips based on practices i've applied myself (feel free to reblog and add more):
read their headcanons: most oc's will provide important info there
ask the writer about their headcanons: found a headcanon intriguing? ask for details (e.g. if they mention they have a special item in them at all times, ask what it looks like, what for, its significance). this helps motivate writers to uncover new information about their own character.
ask the character about their headcanons: let the muse explain themselves and see how they behave about something personal, for example.
read their stats: pets? scars? tattoos? anything visible that can be commented on? point it out to the muse and comment on it.
send memes/questions: your best chance is when you see them reblog them so you don't have to come up with anything yourself.
relate them to your muse: does your muse like rock music? ask the character or the writer if they like rock music too.
note: this list isn't exhaustive. it's simply a couple examples from first-hand experience. it also applies to all muses (canon or oc), but needless to say, this post is specifically about oc's, hence the focus on them.
it’s a little bit ridiculous and silly to expect oc’s to have fully completed biographies and all the details finished before they enter rpc. oc’s are a constant development. the canon characters you love had years of being developed, edits, beta testers, rewrites etc. and people’s portrayals of them continually change and grow within rp. roleplay is collaborative and part of that is with oc’s, a lot of the finer detailers can only be fleshed out through writing. the only place they have to go through that development process is through threads and plotting. and it’s a beautiful thing to get to be there from the start to have your muse be integral to the development of your partner’s character.
of course, i get needing the basic information, that is definitely rp etiquette. but expecting oc’s to have to have months or years worth of developmental work somehow just magically done in mere days to fit some wack standard is just kind of stupid as fuck tbh

It could help her to escape from both the doctor and the UC, greatly improving her odds. The problem was the specimen that had been unleashed on this planet. Glancing at the wall he knew that he could hack into the system and learn about the creatures, but she didn't have clearance for that. "I hadn't mentioned it before, because I'm unable to help you and the likeliness of your survival without help is only a 4.8 out of a hundred."

It was curious he supposed how humans liked to assign meaning to things. He had to wonder why they felt that everything needed to have some kind of a meaning. Sometimes things just were. Or they just happened. It didn't have to mean something. Didn't have to mean anything at all. "Imprinting. I suppose you could compare humans to a simple duckling in some cases."

And pieces of it at that. "Everything looks strange to me now, as if I don’t belong here. I'm afraid it’s me that’s out of place." His eyes tracked her movements as she paced. Sometimes a good way to expend nervous energy, but as of now it was a waste. She ought to be resting. "I only need to be certain you get into the right officials' hands, and they will do the right thing." That however may be a very complicated thing to accomplish with the doctor in the way.

"Ah. That. It seems Dr. Richtofen wanted to test emotional stimuli on a synthetic." Pausing he wiped a hand across his nose and glanced at his blooded palm. Resetting his systems seemed to have caused it for reasons unknown even to him. "Convincingly Human, isn't it? I had even believed it myself." But someone had programmed him to believe it hadn't they? So, were any of those thoughts or feelings his? Were they real? Hard to say knowing what he knew now. "Do you think handing you back to Dr. Richtofen would be a better alternative?" Just because his directive was to preserve human life did not mean that the good doctor's was. "The UC is your best chance at being returned to your people."

"Very well. Take her to a holding cell and see what information you can gather." Dr. Richtofen brushed them off, clearly having other things on his mind. Caz took her by the upper arm and guided her towards another part of the ship, familiar with the layout now. The holding area was empty and for the most part it was safe. "If you're at all injured, I'll tend to it." He urged her to sit down gently, but did not force her into a cell. There was no reason for it really. Her best option for survival was to hope that she would be handed over to UC authorities.

"You saw nothing?" Disappointment laced the scientists voice that he did not have the first-hand account that he had hoped he might have gotten. "The battle didn't wipe the planet clean. My specimen did that. I understand why they would have no interest in a synthetic, but I can't comprehend why they didn't get to you. Blind luck?" Sighing the scientist leaned forward, chair creaking beneath his weight as he did so. "It truly is a shame that you know nothing." Folding his hands together he glanced at his synth. "But perhaps you can still be of use to science. I would quite like to see the specimen in action."
