As an extremely curious person I relate to this statement too much
Sometimes I wonder how people don’t find ✨everything✨ interesting... I know I am the type of person who feels interest and curiosity towards literally anything, from art to astrophysics, but like, IT IS REALLY INTERESTING?! How do you not find it interesting the way economy impacts culture? Or how sex and gender used to be represented in Greece years ago? Or how we figured that there are black holes in the center of every galaxy in the universe? Or maybe how cells work? Or basically anything? I don’t know if this is just me but I genuinely don’t understand people sometimes.
I fucking love judge from hell so much, it gave me a 20 minute scene of an abuser being tortured and beat up. A girl doesn't need more.
genuinely amazes me how schools can spend so much time teaching science without helping students develop an ounce of scientific literacy
like honestly? most of us won't need to know how mitochondria work in our day-to-day life. we won't need to draw electron configurations or calculate the apex of a trajectory. we WILL need to know how to read a graph, how a vaccine works, how scientific studies and drug trials are conducted, how to find trustworthy sources.
of course you pick these things up if you're interested in/exposed to enough science, but i wish they would be explicitly taught in intro science courses instead of those trivia-esque science facts that don't teach people anything about how to interact with science in their daily lives. how can we expect to counter the rampant scientific misinformation on the internet if science classes don't cover the stuff most of us will encounter in the real world?
It has reached the point where inaction on climate change should be considered a crime. I don’t mean that in any sense of hyperbole. It is destroying the ancestral lands of Pacific Islanders and Torres Strait Islanders and whole species are going extinct. Creating new coal mines is an act of hostility against low lying nations and peoples as well as knowingly pushing for extinction. When poachers try to kill elephants and rhinos to extinction people band together to punish and stop them but when a government promises to pollute the environment and destroy the planet’s future with more coal mines we as a country vote them into power. That’s hypocrisy. That’s cruelty. The anti-science climate deniers are a dangerous movement profiting off death and destruction and that absolutely 100% is a crime.
