Hello! I'm doing a research project for my Human Sexuality class about how disability affects relationships and sexuality.

The survey contains 31–35 questions and will take approximately 5–10 minutes to complete. It includes sexual topics such as sex and masturbation and will ask for your personal experience, but is completely anonymous and all of the questions are optional.

You do: have to be 18 or a legal adult.

You don't: have to be disabled to participate. I want as much data as I can gather :)

You ever hear that old chestnut about how most people neglect the part of the story of Icarus where he also had to avoid flying too low, lest the spray of the sea soak his feathers and cause him to fall and drown? You ever think about how different the world would be if Icarus died that way instead? If the idiom was to Fly To Close To The Sea? A warning against playing it far too safe, about not stretching your wings and soaring properly? You ever think about how Icarus died because he was happy?

I have not had a good week! In fact, it has been Very Bad! I did not care for it! It has been a Death by a Thousand Paper Cuts week, and I keep reminding myself to be grateful that it has not been a Chopped in Half at the Soul week! In fact, this has been my entire April!! I have not enjoyed it!!!

This particular week, I have had two routine doctor's appointments, and my blood pressure was weirdly low at the first one; I proceeded to feel like shit all week and take a lot of depression naps. Yesterday was the worst, and this morning, I realized that I hadn't taken any of my morning meds for some reason. I want you to understand that no one on this earth is more Medication Compliant than me. I feel like absolute shit, AS EVIDENCED YESTERDAY, if I miss so much as one batch of meds. I am bipolar, I have PCOS, I have hereditary neuropathy aggravated by a spinal injury, I am developing diabetes type 2 (also hereditary), I Do Not Miss Meds. Except when I do, apparently.

I don't know what was wrong with me before missing the Thursday morning meds, but I kind of feel like I'm having a tiny upswing now. (Oh, also, I fell off a low step on Wednesday. Like four inches, but I ended up flat on the floor so that wasn't great for my spine. I feel a bit jolted all over. But:) A little more will to live, maybe.

Anyway, I am DEEPLY FRUSTRATED that I keep trying to get things done and shit keeps getting in my way. (NO I STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN OBS TO WORK YET THANK YOU FOR ASKING.) I will say, this is usually the point in a project where (in fairness to me) external obstacles show up, and I end up getting overwhelmed by life and giving up on it (the project, not life). At this point, I am trying to accept that I have been egregiously slowed down and that is FINE, it's FINE, because slow is better than giving up and I am a brave little toaster, good for me. BUT I AM SO FRUSTRATED AAAAHHH. It's FINE.

Some women are conditioned to be fragile and weak, and to believe that it's a sin to outperform a man. Her feminism would involve allowing women to be strong.

Some women are expected to be strong at times when they can't. Her feminism would involve reassuring her that it's okay to not be strong.

Some neurodivergent people are raised to believe that they're too stupid to ever amount to anything. Their disability activism would involve reassuring them that they're capable.

Some neurodivergent people are raised to believe that they're smart and gifted, and are expected to live up to impossible standards. Their disability activism would involve allowing them to fail, make mistakes, be stupid, etc.

Some children are constantly reminded "you're the child, I'm the adult" in order to deny their autonomy. Their youth rights activism would involve treating them like an adult at times when they feel ready for it.

Some children are treated like adults in order to justify increased expectations or to downplay abuse against them. Their youth rights activism would involve allowing them to be a child.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to oppression. Each individual person's experience is different. Whatever trauma is caused by their oppression, the activism should focus on undoing it.
