Frank jokingly says that there was no cure before the fall, and he doubts there are any new doctors walking around with functional MRIs. This tells us we did not develop any new cures for incural diseases. In 2003 we did NOT have a cure for this fungal infection, and we don't even have one now in our 2023, let alone THEIR 2023.

In Kansas City Karen is holding a doctor hostage in exchange for information about Henry. He tries leveraging the fact that he's a doctor in an attempt to keep himself alive. It doesn't work. Doctors are NOT valued in this world.
