Baby On Board- B.Floyd

pairing: Robert "Bob" Floyd x wife!reader word count: 6k (its a long one) type: angst warnings: top gun shit, child birth, near death experiences, cursing. synopsis: being placed on a top secret mission weeks before his wife's due date was not what Lt. Floyd had imagined married life would be like.

note: thank you so much for 600! it's crazy how much this blog has grown in such little time! keep sending in requests!

She was his highschool sweetheart. From the moment Bob laid eyes on Y/N their freshman year of highschool, even with braces and acne and a ridiculous haircut, he knew that she was going to be his wife. She was perfect, smart, popular, kind to everyone and he was. . . well he was just Bob. A dork, a nerd, sweet and kind and too pure for this world. He could remember how badly he was sweating and shaking as he approached her lunch table, some cheesy valentine’s day card in his hand and asked her to the school dance. He thought he would get laughed at, but his heart filled with even more love as she pulled out a valentine of her own to give to him.

Bob had shocked everyone when he decided to go into the navy, including Y/N. They had talked about their futures, and Bob had briefly mentioned going into the navy, but he wasn't certain. So when he came home and told her he enlisted, she was shocked but proud of him. Her heart broke when he left for boot camp, and would wait by the phone or mailbox for a call or letter from him. When he came home with a buzzed cut, a bouquet of flowers and a ring, they both knew they didn’t want to be apart from each other. They got married in a small ceremony in his parents backyard, it was like a fairytale for both of them.

Both Bob and Y/N had agreed that they wanted kids. They weren’t ever too keen on actively trying for kids, but they weren’t doing anything to actively prevent it either. At first, they were going to let nature do its thing, agreeing that it’ll happen when it happens. But after two years of nothing, they knew that it was time for some intervention. It broke Bob’s heart when the doctor told them it was going to be nearly impossible for them to have a baby of their own. He watched as the light in her eyes diminished. She told him that she was okay, that it would be fine, but Bob could hear her crying in the bathroom when she thought he was asleep.

Bob stood by her side though, never leaving her. He held her hand in doctors appointments, when they had decided on doing hormonal treatments, Bob was always on track with timing, and keeping track of everything. When he noticed that her body had started to change, and her mood was different and her period was late, he went out and bought every kind of pregnancy test there was to get. He sat by her side on the bed as they waited for the timer to go off, and was the first to look at the results.

Seven months later, Bob and Y/N were glaring at each other from across the kitchen. Her belly had popped some weeks ago, and she was now supporting a nice round bump. She looked on the verge of tears as Bob had explained the document that was sitting in between the two of them. He was being called back to TOPGUN, something that he never thought would happen. The first time around, they had been married for only about a year, and Bob was excited to be chosen to go. He got permission to take his wife with him, and that was all he needed. Now, things have changed.

Y/N was not thrilled at all about Bob being called back. There was no other information on the document other than time and place to be. They had arranged on base housing for the both of them, but they both knew that Y/N couldn’t leave Lemoore. It wasn’t a good idea for her to be far away from her doctor, not when time was ticking away closer to her due date.

“Why can’t they send someone else?” Y/N asked, running a hand through her hair, “Can you tell them I’m pregnant?”

“Did,” Bob sighed, “Technically the baby isn’t born yet so I don’t get any sort of paternity leave. I would still only get 21 days anyway.”

Y/N rolled her eyes, of course he didn't, “There’s nothing you can do?”

“It’s non negotiable. You can come with-”

“Come with!?  Bob, look at me, I’m the size of a water buffalo-“

“No you’re not-“

“Shut up,” Y/N said, getting angry. She could feel the tears welling up in her eyes and turned on her heel and left the kitchen in tears. Bob sighed, knowing the majority of this was caused by pregnancy hormones but it still didn’t make it any easier. He knew that there was a possibility of him getting a last minute deployment or special detachment, like this one, that could take him away from Y/N and his unborn child. He just didn’t think it would ever come true. Bob grabbed the sheet of paper and read it over again. Doing the math in his head, he should be back in time before Y/N has their baby, but it still didn’t bring him any comfort.

He pushed himself from his spot, walking to the freezer to get an orange crush popsicle for Y/N, and then walked down the hall. He found her sitting on their shared bed, looking out the window. Bob sat down next to her and offered her the popsicle.

“Thanks,” She murmured.

“I know it’s not ideal-”

“No, it’s not,” Y/N sniffled as she opened up her popsicle.

“You could come with. . .”

“Bob, I’m seven months pregnant. I don’t think it would be a good idea.”

“It’s also not a good idea to have you here alone either,” Bob said and Y/N sighed, “At least, if you’re in Miramar with me, I’d be there in a matter of minutes if something happened,” He grabbed her free hand and intertwined their fingers, “Up here, yeah we are alone, but you’ll be even more alone if something happened and I’m seven hours away. It would bring peace of mind to me, if you came with me.”

“Well,” Y/N sighed, “Looks like we’re both going back to TOPGUN.”

Bob smiled and leaned in to kiss her cheek, and then slid off the bed to kneel in front of her, both hands going to her growing belly. It always made her giggle at how Bob’s large hands could cover her whole bump, but it also brought her a sense of security.

“You, my little one, can’t make any surprise appearances while we are there, you hear me? You stay right in here for the next six weeks and we won’t have an issue,” Bob said to her belly, and got a small kick in return, “I think they understood me,” He said looking up at you with his lopsided grin.

“I’m sure they did.”

It was almost too hot to do anything, even by the ocean in Miramar. Y/N had told herself when she got pregnant, she didn’t want to be pregnant during the hot months, but living in California, it was always hot. The drive down had been awful, having to stop almost every hour so she could pee, or being constantly uncomfortable. Bob felt bad, knowing that she was only doing this for him, but he let her complain as much as she wanted to. Bob had heard that everyone was gathering at the Hard Deck, a local bar that he and Y/N had frequented the first time around at TOPGUN. Y/N had opted not to go with him, as she wanted to just stay in the air conditioning of their tiny on base house.

Y/N had done what she could to make herself comfortable while being in Miramar. She went grocery shopping, to the beach a couple times, met with one of the OB’s on base (which Bob had gotten out of training early to do), but for the most part she kept a low profile, trying to stay as cool as she possibly could in the southern california heat. Her favorite part of the day was when Bob would come home, and lay his head in her lap and tell their child all about his day. His eyes always lit up as he talked about the simulations and the dogfighting. He would get so animated about it, it was adorable.

Y/N knew bits and pieces about the mission. She knew it was dangerous, that there was a lot at stake. Bob didn’t want to worry her too much at this stage in her pregnancy, but she had kind of gathered that them all being called back meant that it was serious. She tried not to think of a world where Bob Floyd wasn’t alive and she hated it. But Bob reassured her as much as he possibly could that he would make it back to her.

The team didn’t know much about Robert Floyd, other than he was a WSO and Phoenix’s back seater. He was quiet, kept to himself, and would speed off after showering at the end of the day. Phoenix had tried to pry some information out of him, but got nothing more than his full name, where he was from, and where he was currently stationed. Bob didn’t talk much about himself, and Phoenix kind of liked that. He was different from the usual cocky, arrogant (hangman) pilots she was used to working with.

“So Bob, what do you plan on doing when you get out of here?” Phoenix had asked him, as they were headed to the trial run zone. It was day four of doing the trial course, and no one had successfully completed it.

“I bet he is going to have himself a cold glass of ice water,” Coyote joked and Bob rolled his eyes.

“Oh shut it,” Phoenix laughed, “I bet he’ll go home and watch the office or something.”

“I prefer ‘friends’ over the office,” Bob said, thinking of his wife’s favorite show.

“Alright, dagger 1 easing in, time starting in 3, 2, 1,” Phoenix said as she started into the simulation.

Bob looked down at his radar, watching as Phoenix and Coyote made the twists and turns of the simulation, feeling his body jostle from side to side. It never got easier, the more that they ran the course, it seemed to somehow get worse. His body felt heavier, his lungs felt like they would explode. He would find bruises on his sides from hitting the side of the cockpit at such forces. Bob eyed their time, seeing that they were keeping up a good speed, until he caught another plane on the radar.

“Oh no, it’s Maverick!” Bob said.

“What?! Where is he!?” Phoenix called out, and Bob looked around the clear canopy into the sky, trying to see if he could spot Maverick.

“Lost him in the sun!” Bob called out, “Coyote, you see him!?”

“Man, he’s on my tail,” Coyote said, “Line it up, Bob.”

“Roger!” Bob said, controlling his laser to line up the shot, except he couldn’t get control of it. He swore under his breath as he tried but it was no use, “Dead eye! I can’t get it to lock!”

“Dropping in blind then,” Coyote said, and tried to line up the laser the best he could.

Bob could feel when Phoenix shifted the trajectory of the jet, sending them into a steep incline upward. Bob fought against the Gs being pushed on his body as he tried to keep his eyes open and himself conscious. Maverick had somehow shown back up, and stimulated a dogfight with them, until they realized they had lost comms with Coyote. He had gone into g-loc, and Maverick moved quickly to line up a shot, sending a loud buzzing sound into his cockpit. Bob took a sigh in relief as they got Coyote back, but the relief was short-lived when Maverick called out the bird strike.

“We’re on fire!” Bob called out, looking to see the left engine ablaze.

“Extinguishing!” Phoenix said, flipping a switch, “Lost hydraulics, losing altitude, I-I can’t control it!”

“Right engine on fire! We’re gonna burn in!” Bob’s voice was filled with panic, as he felt their jet start to drop from the sky.

“You have to eject!” Maverick called, “Phoenix, Bob! Eject, eject, eject!”

“Fuck! Eject, eject, eject!” Phoenix yelled out, as she hit the button to eject both of them. Bob covered his head as the canopy shot off, and he felt himself get pushed out of the cockpit. The next thing he felt was his feet hitting the ground.

The last thing any military wife ever wants is a call from the hospital saying that their husband had been injured. When Y/N arrived at the hospital, frantic with tears in her eyes, a nurse had guided her down to the room her husband was in. She felt the confused looks and stares of the aviators in the hallway as she passed by them on the way to Bob’s room. She had even heard one of them ask who she was and another say they didn’t know. Bob was busy flipping through the tv channels when she got to his room, he looked over at her and smiled weakly.

“Hey baby,” Bob said and Y/N rushed to his side, as Bob engulfed her in a hug, “Shh, I’m okay, I’m okay.” He soothed her, while rubbing her back as she cried as she sat on his bed.

“Jesus Christ Robert, don’t ever scare me like that again,” Y/N said, pulling away from him, and wiping her tears, “What the hell happened?”

“Bird Strike, lost control of the jet, had to eject. Nothing but a couple bruises and a sore tailbone,” Bob smiled, and Y/N shook her head, “Are you okay?”

“You’re asking me that?”

“You’re the pregnant one.”

“You’re the one who just ejected from a plane at 500 feet in the air.”

“Touche,” Bob said, as there was a knock on the door. Y/N turned her head to see a brunette woman peeking her head in with a shy smile on her face.

“The guys said you had company, I hope you don’t mind me coming to check on you?” The woman said, looking between the two of her.

Bob looked at you and you smiled, “No, not at all,” He said, “This is Phoenix, the main driver,” Bob said introducing the two of them, “Phoenix this is my wife, Y/N.”

“Oh- wow, Bob never-”

“Stealth pilot,” Y/N smiled and held her hand out to greet Phoenix, “It’s nice to meet you. He’s told me all about you. You’re pretty cool from what it sounds like.”

“You flatter me,” Phoenix said with a slight blush, “How far along?”

“Eight months. Not exactly my ideal location to be in, but,” Y/N shrugged and Bob smiled, wrapping an arm around her waist to pull her to sit back down on the bed, “How are you doing? I can’t imagine what it was like.”

“I’m okay, a little shaken up. I’m more concerned that Bob has hidden you away from us and made me suffer with the rest of the testosterone freaks out there.” Phoenix said and sat down in a chair by the bed.

Bob knew it was no use hiding Y/N from Phoenix, so he had told his pilot all about his wife, how they met, how he proposed, their wedding, their house, and even about their baby. Phoenix was surprised at how talkative Bob could be when he was talking about something he loved. She knew he could rattle off information about an F-18 and missiles and flight trajectory, but when it came to talking about his life, Phoenix was surprised. He had hardly let Y/N get a word in and Phoenix would laugh at how Y/N just looked at him.

Y/N would’ve liked it if Bob would’ve been able to stay home after having to eject from his plane, but the mission was still a go. It was only three days after the bird strike that he was packing his bags and headed to get on the carrier. Y/N had driven him to base, much to his dismay since he didn’t want her driving with her belly in the way. She tried to hide her tears as she put the car in park and looked at the daunting aircraft carrier.

“It’s only three days,” Bob said, looking at his hands, “Three days and-and I come home to you and our baby.” He placed his hand on her bump, feeling their little one move around.

“I know,” Y/N said, “Swear to God, if you don’t-”

“I will,” Bob said, cutting her off. He leaned over the console, holding her face in his hands and kissed her. It took her breath away, the type of kiss that is supposed to be a constant reminder. It left her lips tingling as he pulled back, “I’ll see you in three days.” Y/N nodded as Bob got out of the car. She saw Phoenix waiting next to her car and sent her a small smile and wave. Phoenix gave her a nod in response and hugged Bob.

Y/N let out a shaky breath as she watched the two of them walk towards the ship, “Three days little one, no sudden movement for three days.”

— — —

Y/N tried to keep herself distracted but she couldn’t help but stare at the clock, knowing that any second her husband’s plane would be taking off from the middle of the pacific ocean and would be flying towards a certain death. She knows that he promised to come home, but nothing is ever promised in this life. Y/N looked down at the hot mug of tea in front of her and felt a stray tear run down her cheek. She had gotten to the point in her pregnancy where she didn’t even know she was crying until the tear hit her shirt. She sniffled and placed her hand on her belly, just as she felt a cramping sensation.

“No. . .” She mumbled to herself and let out a shaky breath, “Please stop, don’t do this.” Y/N had been feeling contractions since Bob left. She knew that braxton hicks were common and had been feeling those since month seven, but now, these felt different. These felt stronger and she could feel her stomach dropping.

Y/N pushed herself away from the counter and slowly started making her way towards her bedroom. Laying down usually helped subside the contractions and the pelvic pain. Y/N paused as she felt the warmth of a liquid rushing down her legs as she stood in the hallway. She closed her eyes and clutched her stomach, hoping that maybe, just maybe this was all a dream and she had just peed herself in the hallway, rather than her water breaking. But when she opened her eyes at the feeling of a contraction, she knew it was very much real.

“No, no, no,” She felt tears in her eyes as she moved down the hallway towards the kitchen where she had left her phone. Her first instinct was to dial Bob’s number, which she did, but when it went straight to voicemail, she panicked even more. She gripped the counter as another contraction ripped through her body. This wasn’t supposed to be like this. This was not how this was supposed to happen. The next number she dialed was Penny’s, which the older woman had given to her after getting to know her at Iceman’s funeral.

“Hello?” Penny’s voice sounded through the receiver.

“Penny, I-I need your help,” Y/N’s voice cracked, “My water broke.”

“Oh my god,” Penny said, and Y/N could hear her get up and grab her keys, “Stay where you are, I am on my way. If you need to push, do it, don’t try and fight it.”

“I can’t have this baby alone!” Y/N cried.

“I know, I know, I’m on my way, just breathe okay,” Penny said and Y/N nodded.

Penny arrived after a short time, and helped Y/N get to the on base hospital. They had admitted her right away, and Y/N was thankful that Penny had decided to stay by her side. Penny had once been in Y/N’s shoes. Her now ex-husband had been on deployment when Amelia was born, and Penny was by herself in the delivery room, no family, no friends, just her and the nurses and doctor. Penny wasn’t going to leave Y/N alone, knowing very well she would’ve wanted someone to stay with her.

“Breathe through it, there ya go,” Penny said as she dabbed at the sweat collecting on Y/N’s forehead, “I left a message for Maverick and Hondo. I called in a favor from an old friend to hopefully contact the ship and get a message to Admiral Simpson.”

“I can’t have this baby without him,” Y/N cried, out of pure exhaustion. Even though her water broke, she was still going on hour eight of labor, waiting for her cervix to dilate and the baby to drop down even more. The nurses all shared a look, and Penny could read their faces. She had heard them say something to the doctor about being worried about maternal exhaustion.

“I know you don’t, but you might have to,” Penny said, and Y/N shook her head as another contraction hit. Y/N groaned in pain as she gripped the side rail, her knuckles turning white. Penny grabbed the white bucket next to her and placed it in front of her incase Y/N was sick again.

When Y/N felt her body relax, she let out a small cry and leaned back against the bed. Penny had hoped that the call she put in with her father would somehow reach the ship. She wished that Iceman was still alive, knowing he’d stop at nothing to get Bob from the ship and straight to the hospital. But all Penny could do was hold Y/N’s hand and wipe the sweat from her forehead. Y/N’s mind was wandering as she thought of the mission Bob was on, and prayed that he was alive and not dead somewhere in a European mountain range.

— — —

Life or death, Bob had seen the flash of death right in front of his eyes as Phoenix had navigated them through Coffin Corner. He felt his heart sink when he watched Maverick’s plane get shot down, and he felt like his heart stopped hearing Rooster go down too. Bob did what he could to comfort Phoenix as they flew back to the ship, placing a hand on her shoulder, which she shrugged off. They hadn’t been on the carrier long, when they heard that Rooster’s beacon had been turned back on, and Hangman had been instructed to go on the flight mission to bring them back.

The second Maverick buzzed by the tower, the tarmac broke out in cheer, as he landed and both of them had a large smile on their faces. Bob and Phoenix rushed over to Rooster, hugging him tightly. Bob had a bright smile on his face as he celebrated with his team.

“Lt Floyd!?” A voice called out for him. Bob turned around to see Admiral Simpson running towards him.

“Yes sir?” Bob asked, his heart racing slightly.

“You need to come with us right away, it’s a family emergency.”

Bob felt light headed as the Admiral’s words hit his ears. Bob had just escaped death with his team and now he felt a sudden rush of doom. Fanboy and Payback shared a look, confused on what the admiral had just said. As far as anyone knew, Bob didn’t have any family, Bob was a lone ranger. But the look on Phoenix’s face said otherwise.

“Go!” Phoenix said, pushing him towards the admiral. Bob stumbled on his feet but took off sprinting, trying not to let his mind go to the worse case scenario. Phoenix looked over her shoulder and noticed her fellow aviators looking at her confused, and sighed, “He’s married, and has a wife, who’s very pregnant.”

Hondo was waiting for Bob when he entered the tower, and relayed the information he had gathered from Admiral Bates. Bob couldn’t digest most of it, but what he gathered was that his wife was in labor and he was stuck on an aircraft carrier in the middle of nowhere after almost dying. Hondo directed him to the admiral’s office where they gave Bob some privacy to call his wife. Bob sat down in the chair, his hands shaking as he picked up the phone and dialed her number, something he memorized.

“Bob, thank god,” Penny answered.

“H-hey Penny, how is she?” Bob asked, trying to bite back tears.

“She’s getting checked by the nurses right now, I stepped out when I saw you call. She’s,” Penny sighed and looked down at her shoes, “They are worried about maternal exhaustion. She’s in hour 12 of labor, eight centimeters dilated and trying to fight it. She says she won’t do this without you.”

“She has too,” Bob said, feeling a tear run down his cheek, “She has to do this. And I swear to god, she will never have to do this alone again. I need to talk to her.”

“I know, sweetheart,” Penny said, and walked back into the room. Her heart broke seeing Y/N in such pain as she laid on her side. The nurse gave Penny a look, and she nodded, “Y/N, it’s Bob. I’m putting him on speaker.”

“Oh my god, Bob?” Y/N asked, her voice wavering in pain. Bob felt his heart break as he bit back a sob. He buried his face into his flight suit before speaking up.

“Hi babe,” Bob said, “This wasn’t how this was supposed to go.”

“No, not at all,” She sniffed, “God, why can’t you be here. Why now? They’ve been stubborn this whole time, but now?”

“I know,” He laughed, “But love, you have to stop trying to fight it, okay, you need to let them help you. It’ll only make things harder for you, for the baby.”

“Bob, I can’t do it,” Y/N protested and closed her eyes, feeling a contraction. Bob heard her suck in a breath and let out a whimper in pain. Penny grabbed her hand and helped her breathe through it. Bob wished so badly he could be there with her, all he ever wanted to do was be a father and he is completely missing it.

“She’s at ten,” A nurse said, “She keeps putting it off, she won’t be able to push.”

“Baby, you need to listen to them,” Bob said, sitting up straighter in his seat, “You need to do this okay. I’m right here, Penny is there. You need to bring our baby into the world.”

“No!” Y/N sobbed and Penny felt tears in her own eyes, “No! I won’t! I want to go home, let me go home!”

“You’re elevating your heart rate, Y/N,” Her nurse said, walking over to the bed and looking at the EEG reading, “If this continues we’ll have to do a c-section. Y/N, it’s time to push.”

Bob felt his heart stop. That was the absolutely last thing he wanted her to have to do. It was bad enough she was in labor by herself, he didn’t want to have her go under the knife alone. The nurses and the midwife started to move around, getting everything set up for delivery. Penny helped Y/N get to her back and sit up in the bed. The midwife put Y/N’s feet in the stirrups.

“Y/N, listen to me,” Bob said sternly, “You have to listen to them, you have to push, okay. I’m right here, I’m doing the best I possibly can.”

“This isn’t fucking fair,” Y/N cried, and gripped Penny and the nurse’s hand as she felt a contraction and what felt like the baby’s head dropping lower in her birth canal.

“I know,” Bob answered, “But you can do it okay, listen to the doctors.” Y/N nodded and Penny wiped her forehead.

The midwife looked up at Y/N and gave her a sad smile, “Alright, Y/N on the next contraction, I need you to push okay. You know your body better than any of us.”

Y/N nodded and let out a shaky breath. She felt the cramping of a contraction and sucked in a deep breath. When the contraction hit, she pushed, closing her eyes and letting out a groan. Bob closed his eyes, not being able to imagine the pain she was in. With every push that the midwife would count out, Y/N’s groans and cries got louder. He could tell as the time went on that she was getting more and more exhausted.

“Jesus Chrsit, I can’t do this,” Y/N said breathlessly as she leaned against the back of the bed.

“You’re so close, Y/N, I can see the baby’s head,” The midwife said, “Next one push as hard as you can.”

“You got this babe, come on,” Bob said. He heard the midwife tell her to push, “Come on sweetheart, push hard, you got this, come on love.”

“Crowning!” The midwife called out and Y/N let out a loud cry, “This is the hardest part, you are right here, you can do this. Give me a big push and bring this baby into the world.”

Y/N moved slightly, and beared down as she pushed hard, feeling a burning sensation as the baby’s head was pushed out of her birthing canal. She closed her eyes tightly, gripping on to Penny and the nurse’s hands for dear life. Bob was saying encouraging words but it was all drawn out as the pain subsided and Y/N felt her body relax.

“One more, give me one more,” The midwife said, “The hardest part is over, you can do it.”

“Bob,” Y/N’s voice shook.

“This is it, you can do it, bring our baby into the world.” Bob said.

She clenched her jaw tightly, she was surprised that she didn’t break her teeth as she pushed with all her might. It was like white hot pain, almost like breaking a bone, as she felt the baby being pulled from her womb. She let out a broken cry as she felt a weight being placed on her chest, a loud cry filling the room. Y/N’s hands went straight to the squirming newborn on her chest and looked down to see their big brown eyes. Her mind was so overclouded with stimulation that she couldn’t think of anything to say.

“It’s a girl!” She heard the midwife say and Y/N cried even harder.

Bob wasn’t fighting back tears anymore as he held his head in his hands and sobbed, hearing the cry of his daughter over the phone. This wasn’t how he expected the delivery of his rainbow baby to go. He always expected him to be right by his wife’s side, holding her hand, sitting behind her as she pushed, encouraging her, seeing his daughter the second she was brought into this world, being able to cut the cord. Instead, he was hearing her loud cries from the middle of the ocean.

“We’re going to weigh her and clean her up, then we’ll give her right back, okay,” The nurse said to Y/N. She was still so exhausted all she could do was nod, “Congrats momma, and you too, dad!”

Bob nodded, and wiped his tears, “I love you so much,” He cried out, his voice breaking.

“I love you too,” Y/N said.

“I’m going to let you go, okay, I promise, I will be there as soon as I get docked in Miramar. You need to sleep, you did so good, so good, I am so proud of you,” Bob said, knowing he was probably talking to her sleepy self.

“I love you, Bob,” Y/N said, “I’ll see you when you get here.”

They said their goodbyes and Bob hung up. He sat there with his head in hands for a bit longer, looking down at the ground. The events of the day started to hit him all at once, and the tears fell down his face uncontrollably. He couldn’t stop his body from shaking as he cried. He didn’t even notice Phoenix walked into the office. Phoenix’s mind went to the worst possible thing as she walked over to him, and placed her hand on his shoulder. Bob looked up at her, his brown eyes wet with tears.

“Bob-”

“I’m a dad,” He said, “I’m a fucking dad!”

“Oh my god!” Phoenix said, pulling Bob from his seat and hugged him. She pulled back from the hug and looked at him, “Is everything okay? Y/N? The baby?”

“A healthy little girl,” Bob smiled, “Y/N’s okay, the best she can be for having a baby on her own. But . . I’m a girl dad.”

— — —

She knew she had slept too long, even though she had been a mom for less than a day, she knew she still slept too long. Y/N groaned as she opened her eyes, squinting at the harsh light above her head. Her body was still sore, especially her lower region. Penny had been a godsend helping her through the night when she had to get up and pee or wanted to walk around. Y/N rubbed her eyes as she looked towards the small basnet that was placed by her bed, to find it empty. Her heart skipped a beat as she looked around the room frantically to hear the sweet voice she had been waiting to hear.

“Looks like Mom is up,” Bob said, walking over to his wife. Y/N’s heart settled back down as she saw the small bundle of blankets in his arms. He hadn’t even change18d bbout of his flight suit and it looked like he hadn’t slept in hours, but Bob still looked amazing, “You were sleeping and I didn’t want to wake you but the second I saw her I knew that I-”

“It’s okay,” She said, her voice still gravely from screaming during labor, “You’re here.”

“I’m here,” Bob said and sat down on her bed, “And you will never have to do that alone again, I promise.”

“Bob, I can’t ask you to give up what you love.”

“But I love this more,” Bob said, looking between his wife and his daughter.

“She looks like you,” Y/N said, “Those eyes are exactly like yours.” Bob smiled as his daughter opened her tired eyes, “She doesn’t have a name yet. I was waiting for you so we can name her.”

Bob studied his daughter. Names were something that the two of them had spent some time going back and forth on. Neither one was quite set on a certain name, agreeing that once they saw their child they would be able to know what their name should be. Bob ran his finger gently down her face as she yawned.

“Eleanor,” Bob said and looked at his wife, “Eleanor May Floyd.”

I'm Not Risking My Life For You (Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw X Seresin!Reader)

Summary: When you and Rooster learn you have to complete a mission together, neither of you are pleased.

Word count: 6.8k

Warnings: my terrible understanding of the military, injury, violence, swearing, older brother!Hangman, some fighting, cheesfluff

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I make my way down the halls, knocking on the door to the admiral's office.

I straighten my posture immediately when the door starts to swing open.

"Lieutenant Seresin." Admiral Cain nods his head. "Right on time, please take a seat." He opens the door the rest of the way, stepping aside so I can walk in.

I give him a polite nod and make my way inside. My gaze goes to the chairs in front of his desk, one of which is already occupied. Rooster turns his head, giving me an unamused look, before turning back to the front. I pause for the briefest of seconds upon seeing Rooster, but shake myself out of it and take the seat beside him.

Admiral Cain circles around to his side of the desk, taking a seat across from us.

“Alright.” Admiral Cain opens a drawer on the side of his desk, pulling out two files and sliding them across the desk to Rooster and I. “I have a mission for the two of you.

Both of us lean forward, taking the file off the desk and flipping it open.

“Just us?” I ask, glancing over at Rooster with a frown. I’ve gone on missions with him before, but always with a couple other pilots. We can usually put our differences aside for that long, but the two of us alone? It might make for some difficulty in completing our task.

“Yes, this is a highly classified assignment.” Admiral Cain motions to the files. “All the information is in here.”

“Why us?” Rooster asks.

“You two are excellent pilots. Why not you?” Admiral Cain leans back in his chair, folding his hands together.

Rooster side-eyes me.

I exhale, leaning forward. “It’s not exactly a secret that Bradshaw and I don’t get along.”

Admiral Cain frowns. “I would hope that you could put that aside in order to do your jobs.”

“Of course,” Rooster replies, immediately.

“Yes,” I agree.

“Good. Please review the details. You will have four weeks to prepare. Dismissed.”

Rooster and I both rise, leaving his office with our files.

“This is just great,” I mutter.

“You think I’m happy about this?” Rooster asks.

I sigh. “Let’s just agree to stay out of each other’s way.”

“Fine by me.” Rooster turns away from me, leaving down the hallway.

I turn in the opposite direction, going to look over the mission details.

Hours later, I’m finally flipping the file closed, ditching it on my kitchen table.

Surveillance has been done on a foreign terrorist group. They’ve been gathering an array of weapons and Rooster and I are supposed to go in and bomb their base.

Destroy as many weapons as possible according to the papers I just read through.

Intel says that they don’t have any aircraft, which puts us at a huge advantage, but unfortunately their radar will likely see us coming and we’ll have to dodge any ground missiles they try and send at us.

That’s why they’re only sending two of us, less of a chance to be picked up on radar and, although they don’t say it, less casualties.

I’m excited for this mission, it’s the first high profile assignment I’ve had in awhile. I just don’t know why they had to put me and Bradshaw together.

Him and I have always struggled to get along, always competing to be better than each other while we were at Top Gun. All I’d wanted was to come rank next to my brother, Jake, but Bradshaw got in my way. So, at Top Gun graduation, I had to hear my parents gush about how successful their perfect son was at the top of the class, while I stood by at the number three spot-Bradshaw slotted right between us.

Our rivalry had started as a fairly friendly, teasing, competition, but it escalated until it became what it is today- an immense hatred for each other.

The next day, I meet Bradshaw on the tarmac, ready to run some drills.

“We’re going to need to practice some missile drops,” Bradshaw says, as we walk towards our planes. “Your aim is shit.”

“Then we’ll have to clock some races, you’re too slow,” I snap back.

“Fine.” Bradshaw turns to his jet, climbing in without a second glance at me.

“Fine,” I mutter, with a curl of my lip, going off to my own jet.

The second we’re in the air, Bradshaw starts eliciting orders.

“I’m sorry, who put you in charge?” I ask.

I hear him sigh through my headset. “Could you just focus on the task and not disagree with me for once?”

“Could you not be so conceited for once?”

“This is never going to work,” Bradshaw’s jet zooms past me and he rounds in a circle, headed back towards base. “We should just request to be reassigned.”

I flip my jet around, too, headed after Bradshaw. I can’t get reassigned, this is one of the first missions of this much importance I’ve been given in awhile, I’m not going to lose it because of him.

“Wait,” I say. “Just… let’s do the target practice.”

Bradshaw’s plane slowly comes around. I turn mine, too, so we’re both headed back out to the training area.

He doesn't say anything else, both of us flying our planes out, neither of us say much as we start our drills.

I'm starting to think this mission might just work between us, until Bradshaw opens his dumb, pornstache-lined mouth. "You're flying too fast, if you want to increase your accuracy you have to slow down."

"You're flying too slow, if you don't speed up then we're going to get shot down."

"We're focusing on this right now, you increase your accuracy. Then we can work on speeding up."

I groan, but know that he's right, so I land a few more shots, this time at a slower speed, and I hit the target each time.

"Nice," Bradshaw says. Maybe he means it as a compliment, but to me it just sounds condescending.

"Okay, let's race," I say. "Whoever gets back to base first wins."

Both of us spin our jets around. I look over at Bradshaw through the canopy shield. "You ready?" I ask.

"Ready."

"Okay...go!"

Both of us speed up, I push as fast as I can, the force pressing me against my seat.

Bradshaw falls behind.

"You're going to have to go faster."

He speeds up a little, but still hasn't caught up to me. "Come on!" I shout.

"Any faster and I'll lose control."

"No, you won't. We have the same jet, Bradshaw. It's not the plane, it's the pilot." I push my jet even faster, feeling the whole thing vibrate around me and just to prove my point even further, I direct the plane into a barrel roll. The time it takes me to complete the maneuver, allows Bradshaw to catch up to me.

I can tell he's nervous, but he's going fast enough to keep up with me now.

"That's more like it!" I push faster, but this time Bradshaw matches my speed. We zoom over the base, almost neck and neck, before slowing down and circling back around to land.

It's not until after we've landed that I talk to him again. I've finished up with my own jet and am walking over to find him just getting out of his, looking a little shaken.

"You alright?" I ask with a chuckle.

Bradshaw gives me a glare and I laugh harder.

"I'm fine," he grumbles. "Let's meet back here tomorrow, we're going to need more practice."

"I'll say." I look down at his shaky legs.

He scowls. "8 a.m.," he says, walking away.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, Bradshaw and I practice, and practice, and practice.

The four weeks before our mission starts go by fast, but I feel confident that Bradshaw and I have it covered. We've gone over the details and the plan a thousand times with Admiral Cain and there's nothing left to do, but run it for real.

The night before we're scheduled to leave, we meet up at The Hard Deck with our friends.

"Can't believe Shadow and Rooster are actually going to work together," Phoenix says, looking at the two of us.

I shrug. "We've done it before."

Phoenix gives me a look and everyone else looks like they're having trouble buying it.

"Good luck tomorrow, y/n." Jake wraps his arms around me, normally we refrain from affection in front of everyone else, but tonight I decide to wrap my arms around him, squeezing him tight.

Despite my parents always forcing me to try and be more like him, I hold no hatred for Jake. I think even without the influence of my parents I would've idolized him anyway, there's a reason my callsign is "Shadow", everyone said I was always following him around.

"Watch out for her, man." Jake lets me go and clasps Bradshaw's hand, patting him on the back.

I roll my eyes. "I can look out for myself."

"Yeah, yeah, I know." Jake smiles at me. "You guys should probably get out of here. Big day tomorrow."

I hug Jake one more time and steal a hug from each of the rest of our friends, going to get some rest before the big assignment.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Remember," Admiral Cain says, as we head off to our planes. "Destroy as many weapons as possible."

Bradshaw and I both nod. "Yes, sir," we say.

Minutes later we're in the air, headed towards the target.

"We got this," Bradshaw says over the comms.

"Obviously," I say, rolling my plane to the right and flipping it around.

"Would you quit fooling around," Bradshaw says. "Stupid jokes like that are going to put the mission at risk and if it comes down to it I'm not risking my life for you."

"I never asked you to."

"Just stick to the plan."

"Aye, aye."

"Status update?" Admiral Cain's voice cuts in.

"Approaching target, less than a mile out," Bradshaw reports back. He pulls his plane up next to mine, looking over at me. "They definitely know we're coming, now."

I nod, he's right their radar would've picked up on us. "In and out," I say.

He gives me an affirmative nod and we both speed up our jets.

The base is within our sights, when my radar starts beeping.

"What's that?" I ask.

"There's three more jets in the sky, approaching you fast." The report comes from the operations specialist back on the ship.

"I thought intel said this group didn't have any aircraft."

"We don't know if these are hostiles," Admiral Cain says. "Continue with the plan."

I look over at Bradshaw and even from this distance I can tell he's nervous, too.

I look into the distance, seeing the planes approaching. Then, one of them opens fires, bullets ricocheting over the shield.

"Shit!" I shout, veering to the side and diving lower to avoid them.

"Hostiles!" Bradshaw shouts. "Definitely hostiles." I see his plane to my left, spinning around to avoid being shot.

"Retreat," Admiral Cain says. "We'll return another time with reinforcements."

I look down, seeing the base full of weapons up ahead. I turn back to Bradshaw and find that he's also looking at me, neither of us have turned around, yet. We're so close, nearly over the base, if we turn back now and come back later then they'll have plenty of time to move the weapons.

I speed up, zooming forward, coming closer to the base. Bradshaw does the same, neither of us having to say anything to understand what the other is thinking.

"What are they doing?" I hear Cain say over the comms. "I said come back."

I grip my joystick tighter, trying to keep my hands from shaking.

The planes in front of us continue to send bullets our way. I swing left, towards Bradshaw and come over the base, dropping the first bomb on it. Bradshaw drops his right behind me, the explosions below us rocking through the air.

I don't have time to look and check how much damage we did, before the planes are on us and we're trapped in a dogfight.

I spin my plane right, climbing higher, to avoid the enemy jets.

"Do you have eyes on them?" I ask, trying to spin around to see where they are.

"There's two on you, one on me."

I climb higher and then let my engine stall, one of the planes flying past me. I line up my missile and slam the release button the second I hear tone.

The plane in front of me explodes, but, unfortunately, the one behind me is still hot on my tail.

Another array of bullets attacks my plane and a warning starts blaring that my left engine is out.

"One down," I inform Bradshaw. I look around and see him struggling to shake the jet on his tail. "Wanna trade?" I ask, zooming towards him and trying to lock in on the guy attacking him.

"What?" Bradshaw asks.

"You go after my guy, I'll go after yours." I push the trigger down, shooting at the jet on Bradshaw's tail.

Bradshaw's plane turns towards mine, trying to loop around and hit the guy behind me.

I try to line up the shot on the other guy, blasting off my other missile the second I hear tone.

The plane in front of me, zooms upwards, dodging the projectile.

"Fuck," I shout, immediately switching to bullets.

Bradshaw still hasn't gotten the guy behind me and I'm getting hit by bullets on two sides.

It's not long before I've used up all my weaponry and the guy in front of me hasn't gone down.

"I'm out of ammo," I announce.

"Dammit, Shadow. I told you your aim was shit." Bradshaw has managed to pull the other guy off my tail and I'm left with one plane in front of me.

Bullets continue to knock my plane and I doubt it will be long until my right engine is out, too. It will be a miracle if I can get this thing back home.

I look at the plane plowing towards me and I have an idea.

"Destroy as many weapons as possible," I mutter, gripping the control stick and speeding up.

"What?" Bradshaw asks over the speakers, but I ignore him.

Instead, I continue to push my plane straight towards the enemy jet, moving my other hand towards the eject button.

"Shadow, what are you doing?"

As the other plane nears me, it starts to pull right, trying to dodge me. I follow it with my plane, pushing the control stick forward as hard as I can and ejecting.

I fly out of the plane, my parachute pulling me through the air as the explosion from the collision, warms my face.

The blast sends shrapnel flying everywhere.

Pain shoots through my side, as I drift down through the air. I wince, looking down and finding a large piece of metal piercing my side.

"Shit," I mumble.

I look around, searching for Bradshaw's plane and find him still stuck in a dogfight with the other jet. I fall below the tree-line and his plane disappears from view.

I land on the ground with minimal impact, but I still let out a grunt, when it jostles the wound in my side.

I pull myself up, leaning against a nearby tree trunk, as I start rolling up my parachute.

I look to the sky, searching for any signs of Rooster. I see his jet overhead and relax a little, especially when I watch him knock down the last enemy plane.

I continue rolling up my parachute, moving slowly from the pain in my side, but my attention jerks back to the sky when I hear the sound of a missile.

My gaze rips back to the sky, seeing a cloud of smoke chase down Bradshaw’s plane. He manages to dodge it, but circles back around as another missile is sent off.

“What are you doing?” I shout, as Rooster tries to dodge the second one, but fails. The projectile takes out his tail and he starts falling fast. I don’t see where he lands, I don’t even know if he would’ve survived a crash like that.

However, I’m out here alone, and if there’s a chance he’s alive I’m not going to leave him. I finish packing up my parachute and shove it into my pack, pulling it on and standing up.

I cry out when the metal in my side shifts, but push forward, ignoring the blood dripping from my side.

I briefly wonder if I should stop to pull out the shrapnel and wrap up my waist, but I don’t want to waste anytime. Not to mention it'll be difficult for me to reach.

Luckily, it didn’t look like Rooster’s plane was far.

“Rooster,” I call out, hoping he responds soon, praying he isn’t dead. “Rooster!”

I lean against a tree, to catch my breath, panting through the pain in my side.

I’m close to considering sitting down for a minute when I see smoke up ahead.

I break into a limping jog, approaching the wreckage in front of me. Rooster’s jet lies in a smoking heap on the ground, but there’s no sign of him anywhere.

“Rooster,” I shout, looking around the plane. It steams and creaks from burning metal. I’m terrified of what I’ll find in the cockpit, but when I finally work up the courage, it’s empty.

I breathe a sigh of relief, but I still don’t see him anywhere.

“Rooster,” I call, looking around.

No response, certainly isn’t a good sign and the wound in my side is really draining my energy.

Tears prick at the corner of my eyes, but I push them back. Hangman would never cry in a situation like this, but all I can think is that I’m alone, my wingman might be dead and I could be next.

“Rooster,” I shout one last time, the words coming out choked. I walk over to the other side of the plane wreckage and collapse against a tree.

I let some tears stream down my face, closing my eyes and leaning my head back. I’m so tired.

“Shadow?” It’s so distant I think I must have imagined it.

“Shadow!” I hear again.

“Rooster!” I push myself back to my feet, groaning as I do so.

I head in the direction of the shouts, stumbling along to search for him.

“Over here.” I catch sight of him through the trees and start waving.

He starts running to meet me and I do my best to speed up towards him.

"What the hell were you thinking?" I ask, as I get closer.

"Me?" Rooster asks.

"You should've headed back the second you knocked down the other plane," I shout, but my words are drowned out by his argument.

"You're the one who fucking crashed right into another plane. I was circling back to try and find you. Are you okay?" He reaches out for me, clutching my arms in his hands and looking me up and down.

“Yeah, are you?” I lie, not wanting to seem dramatic, especially if he ends up having an injury, too.

Rooster pauses his scan, eyes snapping to mine, narrowing slightly.

“Where?” he asks, a level of concern that I’ve never seen from him before flooding his gaze.

“What?” I ask.

Rooster sighs. “I know you’re hurt, Shadow.”

I exhale, moving stiffly to take my pack off and show him the shrapnel in my side.

“It’s not that bad,” I say, even though I haven’t checked on it in awhile, I can barely see it, and it hurts like a bitch.

“Here, sit down.” Rooster guides me to the ground and starts opening his pack.

“What are you doing?” I ask.

“We’re not going to get very fair with that sticking out of your side. You’re going to need stitches.”

Rooster clicks open his first aid kit.

I tug at my vest, undoing the buttons.

Rooster places his hands on my shoulder, helping me slide it off.

I unzip my jumper next and Rooster has to help me with that, too.

He gets to my t-shirt underneath and cuts off the fabric around the wound.

“Alright, are you ready?” Rooster asks.

“Yup.” I grip my hands into the pants of my suit, so tightly that my knuckles turn white.

Rooster’s hand wraps around the metal and I can’t stop the whimper that slips past my lips. I lift one of my hands and press it tightly against my mouth.

“You sure?” Rooster asks.

“Mmmm, hmmm.” I hum an agreement and Rooster yanks the metal out.

I scream into my hand, hot tears slipping out of the corner of my eyes.

“Good?” Rooster asks.

I hum again, not able to form words.

Rooster starts cleaning the wound and I manage to keep my whimpers to a minimum the whole time. I turn my head away to hide my tears.

"It's okay to cry," Rooster says.

I let out a wry chuckle. "Yeah, right," I reply. "I'm sure you'd love that."

"I'm serious." Rooster reaches into the kit, pulling out a needle and sterilizing it. "I won't make fun of you."

"Jake would never cry," I mumble, trying to steel myself against the pain.

"God, you really have to be just like him."

"You'd understand if you met my parents," I reply.

"At least your parents are alive."

A sense of guilt sweeps over me, immediately. "I'm sorry."

Rooster flashes a sad smile. "It's fine. I got all the love I could ever hope for from my parents while they were alive." Rooster starts on the stitches in my side and I grit my teeth. "I get it, you know, why you were always trying your hardest to best me while we were at Top Gun. I saw the way your parents were all over Hangman at graduation."

If he saw that, then that means he might have also seen me walking off to the bathroom, brushing tears from my face. I don't want to ask him, though, in case he didn't, but he glances up at me from where he's working on my stitches and one look in his eyes and I know that he did.

"Your parents are assholes." Rooster goes back to working on my stitches and a silence falls over us.

Finally, Rooster finishes up my stitches, wrapping a bandage around my stomach and helping me pull my jumper back on.

"There, it's not perfect, but it should hold long enough for us to get back home."

"Right, how are we going to do that?" I ask, looking around at the unfamiliar trees on each side of us. We can't exactly send off a distress flare in enemy territory.

"The helicopter should come by to pick us up, soon." Rooster digs through his pack.

"They're not going to send a rescue helicopter into active enemy territory. We may have taken out most of their weapons, but they still have missiles."

Rooster pulls out his radio, turning it on and calling back to base. "This is Rooster and Shadow, checking in to base, over," he says.

Static buzzes on the other side and a broken voice comes through on the other side. "...ba... ort... er"

"Shit, no service." Rooster stands up, walking around to try and get better signal. "Shadow's injured, we're requesting an emergency airlift, over."

The voice comes through again, broken and incomprehensible.

"We have to find better service." Rooster comes back over, closing up his pack and swinging it onto his back.

I start to push myself up, grabbing my own pack off the ground, but pausing when Rooster puts a hand on my shoulder.

"You should stay here." He looks down at my side.

"Like hell," I snap, pushing myself the rest of the way up.

"You're injured and my poor patch-up job did little to help that. You need to stay here and rest.”

“Rooster, you are not leaving me here.” I pull my backpack on.

His gaze is still focused on my side, uncertain.

“Please, Bradley,” I beg. “Do not leave me here alone.”

Rooster’s jaw hardens and he finally makes eye contact. “Okay, come on.” He grabs my arm, pulling it over his shoulder to help me walk and without another word we start to make our way through the woods in the direction of the base.

Rooster tests the radio every few minutes and while it’s getting slightly better, it’s not enough to make out a full sentence.

The two of us are still limping along when the sound of shouts and heavy footsteps cuts through the silence of the forest.

Rooster and I both pause, turning as one unit in the direction of the sound, since I’m still relying heavily on him for support.

The sound gets closer, accompanied by the breaking of branches.

I pull my arm off Rooster's shoulder, freeing both our hands and pull out my flare gun.

Rooster does the same, both of us moving away from the sound.

"You don't think it's the evac team, do you?" I whisper, knowing there's no way they'd come on foot.

Rooster just swallows heavily.

The first man comes from our right, armed with a pistol. Lucky for us, we heard him coming and are prepared. I immediately, fire the flare gun at his chest, it knocks him off his feet and Rooster jumps on him, punching him across the face and stealing his gun.

"We need to go, now.” Rooster looks around, searching for another attacker, as he runs back over to me.

We both take off through the woods, Rooster passing the radio to me.

I continue to try and call back to base, while Rooster wields the gun, eyeing for attackers.

A gunshot sounds to our right and Rooster's arm slams into my back, forcing us both into a crouch. Pain shoots up my side from my injury, but I do my best to ignore it.

We continue to run past trees, dodging the bullets.

Another man reveals himself from behind the trees, his gun aimed right at me.

Rooster steps between us, blocking me from the man's shot and shooting him down before either of us get hit.

I test the radio again and this time an almost clear message comes back.

"...base requesting coordinates..."

I check our coordinates and report them back, but the response is choppy.

"I can't tell if they heard me," I tell Rooster, as we drop down behind a tree for cover.

"Try going up ahead and sending it again." Rooster peeks around the tree, scanning the area.

"What about you?" I ask.

"Just go," he says. "Don't worry, I got your six." He rises up, turning his back to me and holding up the gun.

I continue to run and Rooster follows behind at a slower pace, walking backwards, ready to shoot.

I repeat the coordinates and eventually I get a clear response from base, “Stand by for evacuation, over.”

I pause my running, smiling down at the radio.

“Rooster, we got a response!” I turn to him with a wide grin on my face.

He glances back at me, a smile growing on his face as well. At the same time, I see a woman break through the woods, her gun raised in his direction.

I open my mouth to shout a word of warning, but all I can do is scream when the loud echo of the gun going off shakes the air.

Rooster’s body jerks as the bullet rips into his shoulder.

I sprint towards him while the woman cocks the gun for another shot. I snatch the gun from Rooster’s hand, firing twice at the woman and sending her to the ground.

“Are you okay?” I ask, snatching at Rooster’s chest to help hold him up.

“Yeah,” he grunts, reaching for the wound.

I grab his hand, wrapping it in mine. “Don’t touch it,” I tell him. "C'mon, we need to find a place to hide out until the chopper gets here."

The two of us slip into a particularly thick area of brush, hunkering down behind a couple of boulders.

"Let me see." It's not until I go to help him take his jumpsuit off that the red stain on my own jumpsuit has grown. I guess Rooster's stitches didn't hold. I do my best to ignore it, as I help Rooster wrap his own wound. I bind it tightly, hoping that our evac will be here soon with doctors who can do a better job than me.

Rooster's eyes are on me the whole time I help him, tracking my every movement. He must be trying to find something to focus on to block out the pain. It's what I'm doing right now, patching up Rooster to ignore the pain from my own injury.

Once I'm done, I lean back against the rocks beside him.

"Hopefully you did a better job on me than I did on you," Rooster pants.

I chuckle a little, leaning my head back against the rocks.

"We should radio back with our updated coordinates." Rooster takes the radio from my hands, calling to base.

I let my eyes fall closed, fighting to get breaths in, each one disrupting the pain in my side.

I vaguely hear Rooster say something about fifteen minutes, but I can't be sure.

"Shadow?"

My arm jerks and I wince, squeezing my eyes shut.

"Y/n? Wake up."

A hand tilts my head up and I manage to force my eyes open, my gaze finding Rooster's face.

"You good? We need to stay awake."

I shake my head a few times, nodding to reassure him. "You worried about me, Bradshaw?" I ask, teasingly.

"More worried about what your brother will do to me if I make it back and you don't."

"Nah," I say. "I think you care about me." I smile up at him, nudging him slightly against his good shoulder.

Rooster laughs. "Oh, okay. You were the one who was crying out my name when you thought I was dead."

I laugh, too, realizing that I don't have an argument for that.

When our giggles finally die down, I lean my head on Rooster's shoulder, finding the muscle of his bicep more comfortable than the stone.

Rooster breathes deeply and I almost pull away, but freeze when he speaks.

"You know that was the first time you didn't just call me 'Bradshaw'."

I hum. "Today was the first day you called me 'y/n'," I reply, referring to moments ago when he shook me awake.

Rooster rests his head on top of mine, the two of us sitting in a peaceful silence while we wait.

The strangeness of it all washes over me. I remember how less than a year ago, we had been ready to tear each other apart.

"You need to calm down." I brush past Rooster, ready to hit the locker rooms.

Rooster snatches my bicep, shoving me back in front of him. "You could have gotten someone killed."

I straighten up, staring him right in the eye. "If it weren't for me Coyote could have died."

"You nearly hit him with that bogus shot."

"But I didn't, I saved his life by taking out that enemy plane."

"It was reckless and stupid."

I step closer, adding in a lower voice. "You're just mad that you failed to do your job. You're Coyote's wingman and you should've been there."

I barely get a chance to finish, before Rooster is pushing me back into the wall, his forearm pressed against my throat pinning me down.

Rage is flaring behind his eyes, but all I do is smile back at him.

"Stay in your fucking place, Seresin," Rooster seethes.

"Do your job, Bradshaw," I spit back. I shove my hands against his chest, pushing him off of me.

That moment solidified Rooster and I's hatred towards each other, but now we're cuddling up to each other like some lovesick teens.

We hear the helicopter before we see it and I grab my flare gun, sending off a flare so they can find us quicker.

Within the next few minutes, they're within sight.

Rooster and I climb to our feet. However, I stumble immediately, my head spinning and my vision darkening.

Rooster catches me by my forearms and I feel guilty when I hear him grunt from the bullet wound in his shoulder.

"I'm good," I say, gripping my side and straightening myself.

"Shit," Rooster says, looking down at my hands.

I pull them away to see what he's looking at and find them covered in blood.

"You weren't kidding about that shit patch up job," I joke, looking up at the ladder being dropped down from the helicopter that's nearly reached us.

I look back at Rooster and find him staring at me. "I'm sorry," he says.

"It's no big deal, the doctors will fix it."

"Not just for that, everything. Criticizing your flying, trying to take control, requesting a new partner for this mission."

"What?" I ask. "You requested a new partner?"

"Yeah, but I'm apologizing for it." Rooster flashes a smile.

The ladder comes down between us and both of us grab on, clipping ourselves to it by our vest. The ladder starts to lift us into the air.

"I'm sorry, too. For everything," I say.

We both smile at each other.

“I can’t believe you requested a new partner for this mission.”

Rooster laughs. “We hated each other, but you know what? I’m really glad they didn’t grant my request.”

“Me, too.”

———————————————————————

I wake up in a hospital bed, the last thing I remember is the doctors on the helicopter, taking care of me and Rooster.

Jake rises from his spot in his chair as soon as he notices I’m awake.

“Hey,” he says. “How are you feeling?”

“Alright,” I say, wincing as I sit up.

Jake immediately protests, telling me to sit back down, but I ignore him.

“Is Rooster okay?” I ask.

Jake's brow furrows a little. “He’s fine. The doctors put him in the next room over.”

I nod, settling back against the pillows.

“What happened to you two out there?”

“Long story.”

Jake nods. “You can tell me later.”

“How bad is it?” I ask, lifting up my sheets to see underneath, a large bandage is wrapped around my middle.

“Some internal bleeding and a wicked scar. You’ll be grounded for at least 8 weeks.”

I throw my head back with a groan. “8 weeks?”

Hangman smiles. “Yeah, but don’t worry. You’ll have your new friend Rooster to keep you company.”

I scowl at him. "We're hardly friends."

Jake shakes his head. "That's not what I heard. The medics said it was impossible for them to do their jobs because you two kept freaking out asking if the other was okay. In fact, Rooster woke up an hour ago and has been asking to see you ever since."

"He has?" I ask.

Jake nods. “Mavs over there with him right now… what are you doing?”

I’ve pushed off my blankets and am trying to get out of bed, when Jake is gently grabbing my shoulders to stop me.

“I want to see him.”

“No, get back in bed. I’ll go get him.” Jake guides me back into bed, holding his hands up towards me for a moment and continuously glancing over his shoulder as he leaves like he’s making sure I don’t go anywhere.

I roll my eyes and he leaves. I drink the glass sitting on the nightside table while I wait and a few minutes later, Jake returns. Rooster is following close behind him, shirtless with his arm bandaged and resting in a sling.

An involuntary smile spreads across my face, as soon as I see him.

“Hey,” I say.

“Hi.” Rooster smiles back at me and sits down on the edge of my bed.

I glance up at Jake, finding his presence in the room uncomfortable. His eyes are flicking between us at a rapid pace.

"I'll be right back," he says, turning and exiting the room.

Rooster and I look back at each other and chuckle.

"You're okay?" I ask, it sounds like a mix between a question and an optimistic fact.

Rooster nods. "You?"

"All good." I push myself up in the bed, determined to sit up next to Rooster. Rooster has a worried look on his face, but doesn't say anything, just resting his arm behind my back to help hold me up.

I’m a little out of breath form the effort and Rooster rubs my back in reassuring circles, while I catch hold of it again.

"Thanks," I murmur, looking up at him.

His brown eyes meet mine and I feel myself sinking into them. I reach my one hand up, brushing my fingers against his cheek.

Rooster's lips part slightly and all of a sudden I can't stop staring at them. They look so soft. I lean forward and Rooster does the same, I close my eyes as our lips brush. I inhale, reopening my eyes to look at him.

I realize what we're about to do and from the look in Rooster's eyes he does, too.

His hand comes up to brush the hair out of my face, his hand moving to cup the back of my neck.

Rooster pulls my face closer, our lips colliding together in a heated kiss.

I reach up with my own hands, one of them sliding around his waist and the other slips itself into the hair on the nape of his neck.

"What the fuck?"

Rooster and I pull away so quickly that it sends a spark of pain up my side.

I look to the doorway and see Jake standing there, Phoenix, Bob, and Coyote write behind him.

"I swear to god if you hadn't just gotten shot I would beat the shit out of you right now." Jake comes storming towards Rooster and I put a hand out to stop him. "Is that what this is? You seduced my sister the second you got a moment alone with her?"

I scoff. "Jake, he did not seduce me."

"I didn't?" Rooster asks.

I turn to him, smacking him in his good arm to knock the cocky grin off his face.

"Jake, please. I'm an adult, I can handle my own relationships."

Jake sighs, but nods.

"I brought the others in. They wanted to see how you were doing."

I turn to the others smiling.

Phoenix comes forward to give me a hug. “Your brothers full of shit,” she says. “He ran down to us in the waiting room saying that you and Rooster were gonna get together and we had to come see.”

I turn to Jake with a glare. “Then why were you so mad?"

Jake throws his hands up in defence. "l thought I was just going to walk in on you guys making heart eyes at each other, not full on making out.”

A phone buzzes and Jake pulls his out of his pocket, his expression falling.

“What’s wrong?” I ask.

He shakes his head. “It’s just a text from mom and dad, they said they hope you feel better soon.”

I feel tears prick the back of my eyes but am able to hold them back. “They’re not coming?”

Jake shakes his head.

I nod and Rooster’s palm rests on my thigh while Phoenix’s grabs my hand in hers.

I hear a collection of apologies from everyone, but shrug.

“It’s fine, at least you guys are here.”

“That’s right,” Bob says. “And we’re not going anywhere.”

A nurse pokes his head in from the hallway. “Visiting hours end in forty-five minutes.”

“We’re not going anywhere for another forty five minutes,” Bob corrects.

We all let out a laugh.

“C’mon,” Coyote says. “Let’s go raid the vending machines for the good candy. Any special requests?” He points at me and Rooster in particular.

Rooster shrugs. “Anything with chocolate.”

I nod. “I’m good with anything.”

Coyote grabs Bob on his way out. “I’m going to need some cash,” he says to him.

Phoenix chuckles. “Come on, Hangman.” She stands up and grabs my brother by the arm.

“Hold on, you better keep your hands to yourself while I’m gone.” Jake points at us, but Phoenix is already shoving him out the door.

I mouth a "Thank you" to her and she smiles, before shutting it behind her.

“Sorry about Jake,” I say to Rooster.

“No worries.” His hand goes to cup my cheek. “Where were we?” he asks.

I grin, leaning in to kiss him again.

“So is this like a thing, now?” I ask.

“Only if you want it to be.”

“I do.”

“Good. I do, too.”

Rooster and I kiss again, taking our time with it this time. We only pull away when the door clicks open, but apparently it’s not fast enough, because I hear Jake’s voice yell out an exasperated, “Oh, c’mon!”

Eddie Munson was a gifted kid who grew up in poverty and neglect without the nurturing environment he desperately needed.

He was neurodivergent and hyperactive.

He coped in high school by experimenting with drugs, skipping school, making himself to be the most expressive and obnoxious in any room, and kept himself preoccupied with hobbies, friends and a fictional world to avoid any thought of his actual future.

And man, if that isn’t some specific ass representation you never get but desperately need.

That’s the scoop.

Chapter 1

2 years ago

Okay but have you considered Stiles’ dad getting shot earlyish in canon, he needs pretty extensive surgery, they don’t know if he’s going to live and Stiles is sitting there alone, shaking apart in the waiting room.

Derek sits down next to him without a word, listens in to the surgery, and calmly tells Stiles exactly what’s going on. He tells Stiles exactly what the doctors are saying to eachother, even when it’s looking bad, stops Stiles from pulling his hair out and stays with him for hours through the whole thing. During a pause, Stiles asks why he’s doing this, and Derek tells him I know what it’s like, not being sure if you’ll have any family left. And that’s the moment Stiles starts to see Derek for who he really is.

(Derek gets to tell him that his dad is going to be okay, lets Stiles collapse into him with relief, feels Stiles’ thank you thank you thank you against the skin of his neck. Derek says it’s the doctors you should be thanking, and Stiles is quiet for a moment before he whispers yeah, but thank you for not making me do this alone.)

Sterek Fic Recs

These are all pretty decent sized fics. All are my personal recommendations, and most are pretty high up on my favorites list.

Don't forget to make sure to check the tags for each fic, because some deal with some heavier topics!

(Occasionally, I update this list, so you can check back for new additions.)

~

Signed, Sealed, Delivered by TheVoiceofWrath

Word count: 20,653

Derek's soul isn't worth anything. Can't be, right? Not after everything. It's an easy decision for him, then, to offer it up in exchange for his sister's life.

If only the demon he makes the deal with weren't so intent on hanging around until Derek's contract is up...

To Have Outlived the Night by stillane

Word count: 23,448

Derek steps away from the window. “You helped me. They took that as a declaration.”

Beauty and the Ex by aggybird

Word count: 23,313

Stiles doesn't want to screw up his chances with Josh, so he does something he may regret: he goes to Derek Hale, Josh's intimidating ex-boyfriend, for dating advice.

Things don't go according to plan. But with a little magic (and werewolves) they might go all right.

Every Step You Take by Nokomis

Word count: 49,347

Stiles accidentally ends up magically bound to Derek. It’s super.

Pale Skin and Fragile Bone by fakinbrilliance

Word Count: 62,239

Stiles asks Derek to teach him self-defense.

Stuck in Reverse by crazyassmurdererwall

Word count: 65,656

Look, Derek is the worst. Everyone knows that. Their fearless leader is a total and complete failwolf.

Which means the rest of them? Are kind of the worst too. They’re a ramshackle, slap dashed, sorry excuse for a pack that’s about a half second away from getting one of them killed. And this is a problem, because Stiles would really like to survive high school. Thanks.

Still, nobody deserves what Derek has gone through. Nobody.

And it’s about time somebody told him that.

The Darkness Inside by isthatbloodonhisshirt

Word count: 51,947

He was also staring directly into the camera, as if he knew someone was watching. A creepy smile slowly slid onto the teen’s face, and he held up one hand, wiggling his fingers in a slow, eery wave.

The sheriff watched him for a moment, then he sighed and turned slightly. He reached out to open a cabinet door beside him, and pulled out a shelf. It was on a track, so it rolled out of the cabinet fairly easily, and held a small CCTV. Derek frowned and inched his chair to the side a little bit so he could get a better angle.

He was looking at a teenager, or someone at least young enough to be the same age as Scott. He was sitting on a bed in what looked to be a larger room, the area he was in surrounded by four glass walls, with his legs crossed and head tilted.

Derek felt his mouth run dry. He didn’t know who this kid was, but he didn’t like him.

“Who is that?” he asked quietly.

“That,” said the sheriff, “is my son.”

Captain’s Log: I am Sly as a Fox by isthatbloodonhisshirt

Word count: 42,594

Derek wandered into the store with him, some of the cashiers cooing at Stiles because, yes, yes, he was very cute, thank you. He was getting more attention as a fox than he’d ever gotten as a human.

Figures.

He just pouted while being carried through the store, one of the girls helping Derek with what he needed and bringing it all to the cash register for him since he seemed reluctant to loosen his grip on Stiles. He probably didn’t want him wiggling free and wreaking havoc across the store.

He was pretty destructive, he’d admit that.

Kissing: The Multi-Tool They Didn't Tell You About by Asterekmess

Word count: 36,384

There are a surprising number of things that kissing is good for.

Seeing Wolves (Where There Are No Wolves) by loserchildhotpants

Word count: 71,966

Or otherwise known as "Derek Goes to the Doctor," wherein Derek gets the therapy he so desperately needs and gets healthy. The clearer his head gets, the more room it seems to have for Stiles.

Prince Among Wolves by Rawren

Word count: 101,000

Looking for full day/evening sitter. 2 twin boys age 4. Must have exp. w/werewolves. Must be human. No pedophiles. No teenage girls. Pay negotiable.

(Personally, this is currently really high up on my favorites list. Normally those spots are taken up by whichever isthatbloodonhisshirt (wasterella) fics I'm rereading, but this fic. It's so good.)

What Goes Around Comes Around by KouriArashi

Word count: 71,451

“Well,” Stiles says, “if they’re going to hunt werewolves, I’m going to hunt them.”

It’s a ridiculous statement from a ten-year-old, but he’s obviously one hundred percent sincere. For the first time since the fire, Peter feels life stir inside him, feels purpose. It’s kismet, clearly. He’ll never meet the child he would have had with Olivia. Instead he’s met this boy, this brilliant, determined, cynical child with a world of potential.

Peter kneels down in front of him so they’re at eye level. “How do you feel about doing that together?”

(One of my top ten favorites, right here. I sat down and managed to read the entire fic in two hours and 46 minutes. It is so good. I will be checking out other works by the author.)

Thiam Starter Kit

image

Here is a short and sweet starter kit , 3 author, of fics I would recommend to literally anyone, not just Thiam shippers, to get you into the wonderful ship that it Thiam! I included, the number of chapters, words and the status of each fic because those things are always something I like to know personally, but if you don’t care ignore them lol!! I hope you enjoy!

To start: What is Thiam? Thiam is the ship name for Liam Dunbar and Theo Raeken in the Teen Wolf fandom.

Is Thiam canon? Technically Thiam is not cannon, but there is a lot of speculation that it was either intended to be or should be. Lots of fans see a lot of sexual and emotional tension and chemistry between the two characters and I would say I have to agree. People tend to write Liam as bi and Theo as either bi or gay. I personally see both characters written in the show as bi, along with Stiles.

Now lets get into the recommendations!

It’s so impressive with all the work you do, answering all the asks for fic recs! Thank you! I love subDerek and omegaDerek in Sterek fics, but it’s hard to find as it’s a lot less popular than the other way around. Would be super grateful if it was possible to put together a rec list of with this.

AND

krummavisur said:Hey there everybody! I am loving all the new fics. I have a BURNING NEED for some top/dominant Stiles fics. All pairings are welcome (although I have a personal weakness for Scissac and Stackson), as long as Stiles is the one who comes out on top.

Yes! I totally agree. More omega!Derek! - Anastasia

Unbind Me by crossroadswrite

(1/1 I 2,890 I Teen)

In which Derek is a born omega but has a body of an alpha and everything feels wrong. Luckily he has Stiles who will find a way to fix it, or so he promises..“Derek,” Stiles says very carefully, walking into the tiny bathroom in Derek’s new loft. “Derek are you alright?”

Derek glares at his reflection in the mirror and hates.

He’s never been your typical cookie cut from a magazine omega but he’s never been this- this wrong. It’s just so fucking wrong he hates himself even more every time he glances at his reflection.

“Fine,” he growls low and menacingly and filled with power. He can bend will with this voice and he hates it. He thinks it’s fucking disgusting because this is an alpha thing and Derek isn’t an alpha. Derek has never been an alpha that’s not his gender and it’s wrong.

Derek narrows his eyes at him, his eyebrows do that confused drawing together thing they do often. “A baby, Stiles.”

“I know it’s a fucking baby, Derek.“

Fake loves turns real when chemistry abounds but will their budding romance survive Kate’s psychotic tendencies?

here comes trouble by grimm

(4/4 I 105,834 I Explicit)

All Derek wants is one day where he can sleep without worry of being woken by gunfire, without the threat of death hanging over his head. He wants a full stomach and no pain clinging to his bones, no ache in his feet from months of running. He wants a shower, a safe place to put his head. He wants his family, the healing comfort of pack. He’ll never have any of that again.

Dating A Freak

The time spent with Priestly has been the best time of your life. Every day was amazing. It was filled with filled with laughter and love, and it was an adventure. It made you remember how you fell in love.

You first met when you applied for the job at Beach City Grill, with your novelty movie t-shirt and a bubbly attitude. "She's gotta pass the interview first." Piper said.

"I'm cool with that." You smiled.

"Okay then," Priestly then leaned on the counter. "Elvis. Dead or alive?"

"Easy, alive. Next question."

"You're hired." He said. You chuckled and looked at Trucker, who smiled and shrugged.

You then helped with cooking the meat, as well as baking cookies for the kids meals. Priestly would constantly make jokes to you, and you always laughed. Sometimes when he was doing one of his random debates with Trucker, you'd hype the both of them up, just to get a kick out of Priestly getting more excited and energized over whatever they were talking about.

Regulars loved you. You would always make extra cookies for the two old people who would come in, as well as the kid who came in weekly. He was an adult already, but was autistic. He looked uncomfortable when he first walked in since everybody was staring at him, so you couldn't help but smile at him and give him some cookies. He smiled back at you and would come back every Tuesday during lunch.

Sometimes guys would try to hit on you. You'd ask for their order and they'd try their best to get you to come with them after work. Usually your roll your eyes and say, "Tish, you have a customer."

Sometimes you'd just turn them down flat. Either way you handled them, it always put a smile to Priestly's face. Not that you knew.

But there was one day where Priestly wasn't at work yet, and these guys walked in. One of them tried to get you come home with him, and you told him that you weren't like that. He scoffed. "C'mon, you won't get this opportunity all the time. It's not like I'm asking for your face. You just happen to have a nice body."

You threw his order at him. "Just fucking pay and leave. Learn how to take a damn rejection."

He paid and stormed out with his friends. One of his friends stayed behind and told you, "He's right, y'know." and left.

You don't know why their words hit you so hard, but they did. What if they were right? "You alright angel?"

"Um, yeah, yeah," you said with a smile that you could barely muster up. "I just need some time alone for a bit."

You then sat in the storage room and silently cried. Priestly walked in and announced himself before asking where you were. They told him what happened and he rushed over to the storage room. He saw you on the floor, with your face in your hands. "Y/n." He kneeled down.

"Do you think I'm ugly?" Your voice was quiet, and your face was still buried in your hands.

He took away your hands from your face, and you looked up to see his worried face. "You shouldn't have to worry about artificial crap like that. You're awesome in everyway. Like the way you defend yourself from jackasses, or how you make extra cookies for the special needs kid that most people like to make fun of. What matters is that you're a pretty fucking amazing person."

You wiped your eyes and chuckled. "Thanks Priestly. You're always so good to me." You gave him a hug, which made him tense up for a up before relaxing and hugging you back.

"And to answer your question, no. I don't think you're ugly at all. You're actually think you're pretty hot." You giggled.

You then began to develop feelings for Priestly. Though you kept it to yourself, everybody else found out about it. Tish teased you about it and made comments on how it was a mystery that anyone could crush on someone as weird as him. Piper, Trucker, and Jen told you that you'd be good together and to go for it. Jen would make the occasional joke about Priestly. Zoe told you that she could sense the same feelings in Priestly as well. Though you were grateful for the support, you weren't confident in what he thought about you enough to do anything about your feelings.

Then there was the whole tampon run. You figured that he would need help and came with him. You kept making jokes when he was panicking on what to get. After you helped him pick one out, you went to grab different items while he stood in line.

You heard people making fun of him, and him retaliating with a speech about having a girlfriend and getting laid. You figured that it'd be the right thing to help him out, and although it was embarrassing for you, it was for Priestly.

You took out the hair tie in your hair, letting your hair fall down your shoulders. You tied your shirt up from the back into a crop top with the hair tie. You walked up to Priestly and gave him a long kiss on the lips. "Hey babe. Got everything?"

He looked at you with a shocked expression, but quickly recovered to get into character with you. "Yeah. I got your tampons for you."

"Aww, thanks babe. But you know I'm not on it anymore this month, right?" You wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed his neck.

"Hell yeah I do. Let's go home." He slapped a 20 on the counter.

"Whatever you say." You grabbed the bag of items and Priestly put and arm around your shoulder.

"Keep the change. Peace." He said before giving them the peace sign that turned into flipping them off. Once you got out of the store the both of you started laughing together. "Well now, we got ourselves an actress."

"It isn't really hard to act that way with you." You said absentmindedly, instantly regretting it. His facial expression changed a bit, and you looked down in embarrassment. Of course he'd feel weird about that. How could he even like you like that? "Um, anyways, we should head back to the grill."

As you and Priestly cleaned up that night, he tapped your shoulder gently from behind. You turned around looked up to the tall nervous looking man standing in front of you. "Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, I just wanted to ask you something important. Just, y'know, don't laugh or anything." You smiled and nodded for him to continue. "Would you, like to, accompany me on a date tonight?" He asked slowly.

"A date?" You asked. He nodded, and your lips went into a wide grin. Holy crap, Zoe was actually a witch, and you loved her for it. "I'd love to."

"Really?" He asked, smiling.

You giggled and nodded, wrapping your arms around him. "Can you give me a ride home so I can get ready?"

He put his hands on his hips and shook his head. "So lazy." He then walked outside and held the door open for you. Once you got to your house, he put his hand over you before you could leave the car. "Wear something nice."

"Like what, my cleanest hoodie?" You teased.

"As much as I'd love to see the hoodie I got you for your birthday, nah. I mean dressing like you're going to a fancy place." You nodded and kissed his cheek, walking up to your apartment number.

You put on a white long sleeved shirt and a flowy peach mini skirt. You'd never really had a reason to put this on before, but wearing it made you feel nervous on what Priestly would think of the outfit. What would he be wearing? Maybe his quilt, and the two of you would both have shirts on. Maybe he did his hair in a different style. All you knew was that you couldn't wait for him to come.

About an hour later you heard a knock at the door and excitedly ran to it. You answered it, and wasn't ready for what you saw. All of Priestly's piercings were out, and the hair color was washed off. He was wearing a nice black blazer with a light blue button up. He looked shy. "Holy shit." You laughed out.

"Would you care to accompany me on this date Miss y/l/n?" He offered his arm.

You hooked your arm into his. "Of course." He smiled and looked down. "You look very nice, by the way."

"You look gorgeous." He opened the car door for you. You smiled at him and gave his cheek a kiss before going in the car.

"You cleaned the car." You looked around.

He shrugged and smiled. "I cleaned the car."

He took you to a nice restaurant, where the two of you talked about anything and everything. Though Priestly tried to remain a civilized gentleman, his true unfiltered jokester self was shining through, and you thought it was the cutest thing ever. Afterwards the you two walked together along the beach, where he put his blazer over your shoulders and listened to you ramble on.

He then took you home and kissed your cheek. "Aren't you just adorable tonight?" You teased.

"Well, do you like me better like this?" He had a nervous smile.

You chuckled and shook your head. "I have no idea what you're talking about. Just because you dressed differently doesn't make you a different person. You're still my Priestly that always puts a smile on my face."

"Your Priestly?" His face was now covered with a wide grin.

"Well, as long as I can be your y/n." He went in for a passionate kiss. Once you pulled back for breath, you asked. "Do you wanna come in?" His facial expression changed to nervous again. "Not for that reason, dumbass. I just don't want this date to be over. I made brownies the other day." He smiled and came in.

You woke up leaning on Priestly as a pillow with the TV still on. You checked the time and saw that your shifts start in ten minutes. In a panic, you shook Priestly awake and told him about the time, hurriedly brushing your teeth and putting on your shoes. "You don't have to worry. I'm always late." He said groggily from the couch.

"Okay, just cause you're cute when your sleepy, doesn't mean we don't still gotta go to work." You said.

"Wait, I have to put on my hair color and get ready."

"Then let's go to your place real quick." You handed him his shoes and pushed him out of the apartment.

As you were driving to his house, he said, "You fell asleep on me." You turned to see his adorable smile.

"You wouldn't let me leave your arms." You smiled back.

"And you're still wearing your clothes from last night."

You looked down, still in the skirt and shirt. "Crap. Can I borrow a shirt?"

"That'd be pretty hot." You both later came in together. Priestly was wearing one of his regular outfits, and you were wearing his Tip me or DIE shirt tucked in under your skirt and a flannel. "We're here!"

Everybody stared at you while you walked behind the counter. "It's not what it looks like." You said before you went into the storage room, with the other three girls excitedly running after you.

After that you two were unbreakable. He would always make sure you were feeling loved, from a simple squeeze on your arm to a passionate kiss. And most of all, he just couldn't help but praise you.

He would try his best to make romantic dates and be a gentleman, but sometimes it was too easy to provoke his playful side. At times he would take you on regular dates, like the movies or a carnival. You would take him on dates as well, from picnics to watching one of his favorite rock bands.

You were the first one to say that you love him. You knew that he was shy when it came to his feelings, so you were okay with saying it first.

It came naturally. The two of you had waited for a while to have sex. It had to be perfect, and he didn't want you to think of your first time with him as a cheap hook up. He wanted it to mean something.

That's why when he took you to a fancy restaurant, and had a walk in the park with Priestly and you acting like children and hopping on the big stones by the walkway. He then took you back to his apartment, where the two of made love.

When you woke up the next morning, you felt him kiss the top of your head before getting off the bed. He told you that he would make you some eggs, and you rolled onto your stomach. You smiled. That's when you said it. "I love you."

He stopped in his tracks, and ran over to the bed, kneeling down. "What?!"

"I love you." You bit your lip to hold in your laugh. You knew he felt the same way, and watching his innocent looking face was almost too adorable. "Do you have something to tell me?" You joked.

He gave you the biggest smile before excitingly jumping onto the bed and smothering you with kisses. "I love you too!" He laughed out between kisses.

After a few months of bliss, Priestly had a plan. He had a plan to watch your favorite movies, to cook you dinner, and to have you feel special. He had a plan, which was in a little black box on his top drawer at home. He had a plan to ask you a question, so you two could go on amazing dates forever.

~~~~~~~~~
There was a silence in the Domo today that you couldn’t quite grasp. Maybe it was from the fact that laying in the bed, injured, in front of you, was the love of your life. Or perhaps it was the fact that you knew when he awoke things would go back to normal. The normal being, him ignoring you. You weren’t even sure how you two reached that point. At one time, he would spend hours just talking to you about everything on this earth you two discovered. Lately, it was coming to a stop. A heartbreaking stop.
You were utterly in love with him. There was a day where you thought he may feel just the same. Just when you were going to confess it all he shut you out. It was all in your head that he may actually have felt the same.
“Hey, how is he?” Sersi stood at the door and her voice was soft. You could hear the concern in her voice.
Your eyes glance to her and then back at Druig. He was unconscious and had been for several hours. There was a deviant outbreak in a nearby area. Just as we were set here to do you went out to fight against them.
“Still unconscious.” You shortly reply. In a comforting manner you hold his hand carefully. There were bandages across his toned chest and a deep gash near his temple. The other Eternals did their best to get you to eat or even sleep. You couldn’t leave him. Not after you caused this and you blamed yourself far too much.
Sersi walks into the room quietly to stand behind you. Her hand reaches out and puts it on your shoulder. She was always the one to comfort you in any situation. Now was no different. She knew how you blamed yourself for this. And she did her very best to make you understand it wasn’t your fault. He made the choices he did.
“You need to rest. Someone needs to patch up that gash on your arm anyways.” Sersi suggests. It was true. In the midst of the chaos and helping take care of Druig you hadn’t noticed your own injuries.
“Just let me change his bandages. Then I’ll fix this.” You gesture to your arm and she nods her head in approval. You watch her walk out of the room to leave you to your duties.
You find the bandages and ointment needed to help with the cleaning. Carefully, you began to change his larger bandage on his chest. He slightly stirs as you do and that makes you nervous. There was sweat forming on his body. It let you know that at least his body was trying to heal. Just as you are fixing his temple bandage you felt his hand wrap around your arm.
“What happened?” He barely mumbled enough that you could understand it.
“Hey Druig, a deviant got a hold of you.” You kept it simple for him. Maybe he didn’t remember the words he spoke to you before he passed out. You surely did. “I’m just cleaning your bandages.”
His eyes open fully and he looks at you. For a second all you could focus on was the color of his iris’s. They were the softest shade of blue and for a moment it was like all was right in the world.
“I don’t want you here.” His words stung. They hurt so much that you felt the pain in your chest. It caught you off guard and you do everything in your power to not cry.
“Just let me fix your bandage on your head and I’ll be gone.” You fight the crack in your voice but it falters just at the end of the sentence.
“I’m serious. Just leave. It’s not like you actually care. You’re here because you caused this.” Your lips part in shock from the words.
“You don’t mean that.” You thought just maybe it was the medicine you gave him. Or the fever that was breaking out through his body. Druig had been cold but not ever this cold before.
“I do.” He says through gritted teeth and doesn’t dare to look at you. His hand pushes yours away that was trying to replace the bandage. It caused your body to turn away in an awkward motion to avoid hitting his gash. His other hand clashes across your open wound on your arm and you suck in a sharp breath at the pain it induced.
You lean back and step away from his bed. One hand covers the gash to stop the bleeding that started again from it being reopened. The tears that you fought so hard to contain began to fall down your cheeks. Your eyes peered into him with the most hurt expression.
“I don’t know what I ever did to make you hate me like this.” He keeps his head turned towards the wall. “I’m sorry that this happened. I blame myself for it all. But you didn’t have to jump in front of that deviant for me. I had it under control.” Instead of leaving right away you at least had to share your side.
“Obviously you didn’t! Or we wouldn’t be here.” He replies and you could tell he was getting frustrated. There was some other demons he was battling. Being with Druig for so long you had grown to know him. Almost like the back of your hand.
“Screw you Druig. Forget that I ever cared about you.” Tears were freely falling down your face now. “I’ll leave you alone. That way you don’t have to worry about me being a job for you. A chore!” You bring back the words he muttered to you before he passed out.
As you wipe away the tears and turn to leave the room he doesn’t say another word. Sersi was beside the door along with Sprite and Kingo. They look at you with such pity in there eyes. It was no deny that they had heard everything from that conversation.
You went to the common area of the Domo to grab the rest of the first aid kit. Your brain was fuzzy with so many thoughts circling it was hard to focus. The tears just kept freely falling making your cheeks raw. You didn’t want the pity from your family. So you chose to take yourself outside to a favorite place of yours. Somewhere for you to be alone and so you can cry all you want.
When you find your spot you neatly sat your kit down to prepare it. The pain was getting to be unbearable in your arm. You knew Druig didn’t mean to hit it. That pain didn’t compare to the pain of your emotions.
For so many years you slowly fell in love with that boy. How could you not? There were nights that you spent together that were the best of your existence. He showed you what a best friend is and never once let you down. Not until now. Why now?
With shaky hands you tied a band above the gash on your arm. Just to get the bleeding to slow down so you could clean it up. Your hands were shaking so much that it was hard to really do anything. And with the tears invading your vision it was even worse.
You start to clean the gash and even more tears flowed out of your eyes. “Fuck!” You shouted in pain.
“Stop!” You we’re so blinded by the pain your arm and your chest you didn’t fully register the voice. Your hands shook so bad and you felt the world caving in on you. “Stop!” They say again and you look up.
Druig was stumbling his way over to you. There was a blanket wrapped around his shoulders and he was still shirtless. His pants hung loosely on his hips and he didn’t even have shoes on. He was struggling to stand straight.
“Don’t get any closer!” You felt the heat of your powers began to stir. There was no doubt that you had a strong control over your powers. But when things like this happened it would cause you to lose control.
You lost all control and began to break out into a sob. All the doubts, the pain, and insecurities surfaced to the top. The words he spoke played repeatedly in your head. There was a chaos of energy forming around you. Leaving you breathless and in pain.
It broke Druig to see you like this. To know that he was the reason behind it. In his mind he thought it would be best to push you away. He never thought he was worthy of love. The times he spent with you showed him what it could be like. It scared him and the thought of losing you scared him even more.
“Stop.” He reaches out to you, his knees hit the ground to properly be eye level with you. His hands go to your back to slowly start to rub circles and soothe the pain away. “Stop. Please.” He begs you. His touch automatically causes your powers to subside.
“It hurts.” You cry out in pain and that’s when his very own heart broke in half. It was already cracking from saying the words he said to you. For being so cold to you. He was an idiot to ever think that hurting you like that would keep his fears away.
“I’m sorry.” His eyes began to tear up. “I’m so sorry my beautiful girl. I hurt you in ways I can’t even begin to imagine.” Druig moves closer to you and tucks his body underneath yours. You were practically in his lap as he held you close to him.
His heart sank to his stomach the moment you looked up into his eyes. There was a pain in your eyes that he couldn’t express. Pain that he caused. Those eyes hold the stars to him. Never had he seen them so dull like that before. He cups your cheeks and uses the pads of his thumbs to wipe away the tears.
“Why did you say those things to me Druig?” The way you said his name and not one of your nicknames made him want to burn.
“I was stupid. An idiot that let my fears get the best of me. The thought of losing you was the worst possible thing to cross my mind. If I didn’t let you in then I would never have to worry about having you then one day you’d realize that you don’t want me. You would leave and I would lose you.” This time a few tears fall down his cheeks as he looks at you. You both we’re completely broken but you were in it together.
You slowly wrap you arms around his neck so you could hide your face into his neck. He tightly wraps his arms around your back and presses your body as close to his as he could. He wasn’t sure what was going to happen after this but he knew that he had to hold you. Even if it was his last time doing so. There was a lot of forgiveness that had to be earned. Druig was willing to work for every last bit of it.
“I’m so sorry.” He whispers into your hair and cries a little harder.
“Don’t let me go.” You say into his neck and he grabs on to you tighter. His eyes shut to rid of the tears that wouldn’t stop. You were another piece to him and he broke that.
From that point on Druig vowed to never hurt you ever again. He vowed to stay true to you. He vowed to make up for all the things he said and done. There was nothing that he wanted more in this life than to be yours. To have you for the rest of his immortal life.
