people who are afraid of snakes are fuckin’ WILD, like dude, just carefully step over these fat babies’ sausage bodies and gently move the burmese python chillin’ against the door, then you become unfathomably rich. i would do this for $10. i would do this for FREE.

dnd player (non-practicing)

I love when star trek randomly starts trending again

child handling for the childless nurse

My current job has me working with children, which is kind of a weird shock after years in environments where a “young” patient is 40 years old.  Here’s my impressions so far:

Birth - 1 year: Essentially a small cute animal.  Handle accordingly; gently and affectionately, but relying heavily on the caregivers and with no real expectation of cooperation.

Age 1 - 2: Hates you.  Hates you so much.  You can smile, you can coo, you can attempt to soothe; they hate you anyway, because you’re a stranger and you’re scary and you’re touching them.  There’s no winning this so just get it over with as quickly and non-traumatically as possible.

Age 3 - 5: Nervous around medical things, but possible to soothe.  Easily upset, but also easily distracted from the thing that upset them.  Smartphone cartoons and “who wants a sticker?!!?!?” are key management techniques.

Age 6 - 10: Really cool, actually.  I did not realize kids were this cool.  Around this age they tend to be fairly outgoing, and super curious and eager to learn.  Absolutely do not babytalk; instead, flatter them with how grown-up they are, teach them some Fun Gross Medical Facts, and introduce potentially frightening experiences with “hey, you want to see something really cool?”

Age 11 - 14: Extremely variable.  Can be very childish or very mature, or rapidly switch from one mode to the other.  At this point you can almost treat them as an adult, just… a really sensitive and unpredictable adult.  Do not, under any circumstances, offer stickers.  (But they might grab one out of the bin anyway.)

Age 15 - 18: Basically an adult with severely limited life experience.  Treat as an adult who needs a little extra education with their care.  Keep parents out of the room as much as possible, unless the kid wants them there.  At this point you can go ahead and offer stickers again, because they’ll probably think it’s funny.  And they’ll want one.  Deep down, everyone wants a sticker.

I think it’s so great that it has been almost 60 years and the Star Trek fandom is still going strong. I hope it never stops. Sometimes I worry that it will die out. But then I remember that there are plenty of people out there, frequently academics, always ready and willing to throw down for Shakespeare, Homer, and the damn Epic of Gilgamesh.

I hope there are academic debates for centuries to come.

“My story has so much gay rep in it!” Awesome. How are you treating your female characters btw

Switched between 1st and 2nd POV based on how funny it sounds.

James Potter 🤝 that dude in high school that was such a straight ally and then shows up at the reunion married to another man.

This is most beautiful thing I've ever seen

I have acquired a Spock-shaped greeting card, which comes with stickers so you can customize the inside.

I Have Acquired A Spock-shaped Greeting Card, Which Comes With Stickers So You Can Customize The Inside.

Very fun. My favorite part is the classic “Spock Quote” that reads “I would Love you if I were capable of Emotion.”

And the one that reads “Amok Time!” You know, from the classic episode “Amok Time” in which Spock shouts “Amok Time!” and amoks all over.

Every once and a while I feel happy. Then i think about all the sapphic TV shows that have canceled...

And then I'm no longer happy.

me at any given time: can we just buckle down and focus on the task at hand please???

my brain:

my brain: ……….ranibow sprimkle……………

Also even in the pilot episode they are like poor spaceman Spock he doesn't have emotions:( and then he tries to maul a man onscreen for the captain

There is so much star trek that I thinks it’s your right as a fan to pretend some of it doesn’t exist. If I want to pretend generations didn’t happen that’s my business

every time a lesbian interacts with my posts i get 1% stronger. pspsspspsps here lesbians (jangles my carabiner)

The Layers

The layers

hey man yeah I don’t know if you’ve met Spock. He’s pretty much my nobler half and his soul is my eternal responsibility. Oh yeah and he’s the most impactful person in my life, so much so that I’ve sacrificed every romantic relationship that I’ve ever had and the life of my son to continue to exist in his presence. What? Oh- no. We’re just good buddies.

Half the time it's all three

I’ve only got three possible reactions to watching a TOS episode:

“I can’t believe this aired” (the worst plot you’ve ever seen on tv)

“I can’t believe this aired” (a piece of media so beyond its time and still relevant to today’s discussions, that I’m surprised it didn’t got censored at the time it went on air)

“I can’t believe this aired” (gay as fuck)

Tell me why the West Wing theme song makes me feel more patriotic than the literal national anthem

i was thinking about how the only thing i didn't love in the full barbie trailer was ken in the real world hospital, telling a doctor that he should be able to do surgery because he's a man, and doesn't believe that's she's a doctor as a woman. it's very un-ken of him—ken was created exclusively to support barbie. he doesn't have a real job of his own! if anyone understands women having real jobs, it should be him.

so i was thinking there must be something else going on, like maybe traveling to the real world opens ken's eyes to the possibility of a patriarchy and men having more power (something that obviously doesn't exist in barbieland). then i read this quote from greta gerwig:

I Was Thinking About How The Only Thing I Didn't Love In The Full Barbie Trailer Was Ken In The Real

and i was like "hmm maybe barbieland is like the garden of eden and he gets tempted with the fruit of knowledge lol" and then i watched the trailer again and saw that at some point BARBIELAND becomes KENDOM:

I Was Thinking About How The Only Thing I Didn't Love In The Full Barbie Trailer Was Ken In The Real
I Was Thinking About How The Only Thing I Didn't Love In The Full Barbie Trailer Was Ken In The Real

and i'm putting some puzzle pieces together…obviously there's still much to be explored and i think greta gerwig is a genius so i'm sure there are even more layers than i think but i just wanted to put these thoughts down so i can refer back to them in july!

Friday’s got us feeling ✨crabulous✨

A Japanese spider crab stands balanced on its hind legs while raising the roof with its two large front legs up above its head. The crab is facing towards a constructed arrangement of white and gray sperm whale bones resting on the sandy floor, while darkness looms behind.

"You can't be a lurker on tumblr." Yes, you absolutely can. I've been quietly reblogging things since 2014 and I haven't interacted with anyone in years.

Yeah, I do have high standards.

I want to meet someone who will make me feel the same way I feel while reading fanfiction, fluffy one, with characters just loving and pinning for each other.
