I’ve Begun To Feel Under The Weather, So I Made This Soup Tonight. It’s One Of My Favorite Recipes
I’ve Begun To Feel Under The Weather, So I Made This Soup Tonight. It’s One Of My Favorite Recipes

I’ve begun to feel under the weather, so I made this soup tonight. It’s one of my favorite recipes from my blog!

Cold Season Soup–Vegetable Soup with White Beans, Cauliflower, and Quinoa:

2 heads cauliflower, washed and roughly chopped

1 large white or yellow onion

1 shallot (not totally necessary, but I like to pack in the alliums when I’m sick)

5 large carrots

6 celery stalks

1 head of garlic (Yes, head, not clove. Go big or go home if you really want to clear the sinuses.) peeled and pressed, grated, or chopped

1 large or 2 small zucchini squash

1 c. dry red quinoa

2-3 c. cooked white or cannellini beans

4 large kale leaves, washed and roughly chopped

large handful of fresh parsley, washed and roughly chopped

3 quarts vegetable or chicken broth

½ t. ground black pepper

1 T dried thyme

1 T dried oregano

3 bay leaves

pinch of cayenne pepper

salt to taste

4-6 T olive oil

———————————————–

Preheat oven to 400.

Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Spread chopped cauliflower onto the baking sheet, and drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste, and toss to coat. Roast in preheated oven until slightly charred and soft all the way through, about 40-60 minutes. Turn/mix cauliflower halfway through baking to ensure even browning.

While cauliflower is roasting, chop onion, shallot, carrots and celery to desired size. Bring a large, heavy-bottomed soup pot to medium high heat, and add a few tablespoons of olive oil. Once olive oil is fully heated, add onions, carrots, and celery, and cook 10 minutes, stirring often to keep from over browning. Add shallot and pressed, grated, or chopped garlic. Cook another 10 minutes or until onions are translucent and very fragrant. Add broth and all spices. Bring to a simmer and then taste and adjust spices/salt as needed. Add dry quinoa and bring to a simmer again.

Finely dice zucchini and add to the pot. Let simmer about 30 minutes or until quinoa is cooked through and all vegetables are tender. Add roasted cauliflower, chopped kale, beans, and parsley. Bring to a simmer and taste. Adjust salt and spices as needed, and don’t be afraid to add more olive oil if it lacks richness!

Also, t.= teaspoon and T= tablespoon

The Use of Hornets and Wasps in Witchcraft

The Use Of Hornets And Wasps In Witchcraft

I’m sorry for my absence my lovelies! It’s been a difficult few weeks for me recently, because I’ve been trying to cope with exams, then the end of classes, and then constant exposure to an abusive family member, all whilst struggling with significant depression. However, I’m pushing on through, and one of the things that’s getting me through is thinking about new things to post on!

A note about the ethics of animal part usage

Insects parts are a very traditional element of witchcraft, and they are much more ethical than any other animal parts because (like bivalve and gastropod molluscs), arthropods do not have a brain capable of supporting consciousness. Killing hornets for your craft, then, is an ethically safe thing to do. However, killing animals that are capable of consciousness exclusively for the reasons of Craft is disputed by many witches from different traditions and is usually considered to be unacceptable. Please don’t take this post to be in support of killing conscious animals for usage in Craft activities – I am personally strongly against pointless slaughter, including sport-hunting and sport-fishing.

Witchy Uses for Hornets and Wasps

Curses that involve pain and fear – Any curse that has pain or fear as a major component of its magick (either because it’s what you want to cause, or it’s what you want to get justice for) would be greatly enhanced by the addition of dried and crushed wasps or hornets.

Curses that involve falling afoul of spies, infiltrators, or deceivers – Wasps and hornets are most infamous in apiculture (beekeeping) for their tendency to enter into a beehive and kill every single bee inside, completely destroying a colony in a matter of hours or days. They do this by camouflaging their scent, and then sneaking into the hive round a back entrance. Once inside, they will kill everything in their path to achieve their goals. Any spell that involves either retribution for those that have done this, or hope to invite these kinds of people into someone’s life, would do well to have crushed or whole hornet or wasp nest in them.

Curses that involve projects or structures going wrong – Wasps and hornets are also well known for causing colony collapses. Using dried and crushed hornets and wasps in your spellwork can be very effective in causing organisations, projects, or communities to break apart, or again to get retribution against those who performed these actions. Most effective against organisations with power that’s highly consolidated in one person, like in a beehive.

Any spell focused around matriarchal or feminine-specific social structures – Using wasp or hornet nest in your spell can (if you properly cleanse it with salt and smoke to remove negative inclinations) help boost spells that are focused around matriarchal social orders. This is also true with ant nest and honeycomb pieces, though honeycomb is the best of the options.

Any spell focused on people who leech things off of others – Hornets and wasps don’t work for their food like bees or ants do, but prefer to target those who work hard and steal or leech off of them. Any spell that’s aimed at human leeches, mooches and other human parasites can be increase with the addition of crushed wasps and hornets. Parasitic creatures like actual leeches, mosquitoes and ticks are better, but less readily obtainable in some areas.

Spells that involve wasps! – You’d be surprised how non-obvious this is to some people, but yes, if you want your spell to literally involve wasps or hornets, it would be a good idea to include one or two in your spell!

I hope this is of use to all you lovely witches out there!

Web Water: Magical Home Alert

Web Water: Magical Home Alert

I channeled this from my spider spirit Ester when I moved into a new home and had some... hexing concerns. I needed a way for me to KNOW if I need to refresh wards, etc. Well, luckily my house is old so there were PLENTY of cobwebs to use and what better to use as a trip wire than unbreakable spider silk!

Use: warding, protection

Channeled from: Lamiya, Ester

Components:

Cobwebs

Dead Spiders (optional, adds strength)

Saltwater

Bottle

Sigil Powder (optional)

Collect cobwebs and dead spiders from around the house.Ā If they are super dusty, put them in a ziploc bag or tupperware with some water and soap. Shake and then pour the water out.

Put webs in bottle with salt water for 3 days in the sun, shaking every few hours.Ā

Take out big web chunks, water should have traces of web in them. Spider bits can be added now or put around the property.Ā

Pray over the water and ask the spiders to use their webs to alert you to any trespasses via agreed upon alert such as spiders coming from the ceiling. Ask the spider spirits to trap and eat the bad energy they find.

Pour around the edge of the property and anoint the members of the household you want to be included in the ward.Ā  Should see pink/purple webs outside the house* *This is UPG. After I did this the first time I noticed lots of webs around the yard that turned pink in the sunlight.

What surprised me in Peru

I have been in Peru for almost 4 weeks now. I haven’t seen much yet as I a have been volunteering in the same town for 3 weeks but I really do like it so far! People are super chill, the food is delicious and the little town I’m staying is awesome for surfing :)Ā  However, there were a few things that surprised me since I got here ^^ Here are a few examples:Ā

Speed bumps: Ok I really love Peru, but can you guys stop with speed bumps??? Honestly there are everywhere, super high and wide and also SUPER annoying. No sign to warn us, no official size, just BOOM a speed bump (thank god I’m not driving!). Also drivers honk ALL the time, sometimes for no reason at all.Ā

The variety of climates and landscapes: Peru is quite big so obviously there are quite a different climates here, but that much variety is incredible. On one side of the country you have the biggest rainforest on earth, and where I am right now it’s super dry, no vegetation, just sand and dust. And obviously there are also a lot of mountains with the Andes. It’s almost 30°C where I am now and only a few hours from here, it’s snowing, like how cool is that?Ā

The desert: It’s always been my dream to see what the desert looks like, and now I’ve seen one. Thank you Peru! (I always thought I would see the desert in Africa, but nope, the earth is full of surprises^^)

People are very helpful: In France and the vast majority of countries I’ve visited, when you ask someone for a direction, they will explain you were it is with words and gestures. But here in Peru (and I noticed the same thing in Costa Rica, is that a Latin America thing??) people actually walk with you to your destination, even if it’s quite far. And like, THANK YOU!!!??? Why do people do that? At first I thought it was a weird thing of men following me, but no, people really do that because they’re kind, and honestly wow, you would never see that in Europe (at least not in France…). Also I’ve had a lot of people asking me if they could practice their English with me, here is seems like everyone wants to learn English and is actually making a lot of efforts to do so, which is pretty cool :) And a lot of Peruvians also helped me with my Spanish!

People share their beer: I don’t know how it’s done everywhere else, but in Europe (and North America I think?), when you get a bottle of beer, you drink it by yourself. Of course you can ask other people if they want some, but it’s not seen as rude to drink the whole bottle or can be yourself. Here in Peru you are supposed to share everything! Here the rule: don’t drink the whole bottle, pour some in your glass and pass the bottle.Ā

Fireworks: people use fireworks every day, at any time. They don’t necessarilyĀ  need a special occasion to play with them. It’s kinda weird to hear fireworks for no reason all the time but we get used to it ^^

Purple corn: A few weeks ago, I had no idea purple corn actually existed. But now I love it, especially in Chicha Morada :)
