I’ll be honest regarding Double Exposure the journal’ UI broke my heart more so than Max and Chloe breaking up (I was never that invested I got sick of them around BtS release)

To me it just signals the death of stylization in LiS, the sketches are well made and I have nothing against the poor soul who had to draw them but this isn’t Max Caulfield’s art style

How dontnod used to draw the sketches and paint other assets was to trace over models or existing pictures and I won’t crap on the art style on the right it’s fine but I don’t think of it as a natural evolution for teenage maxs sketching style

Idk I feel like it would’ve cost less for DE to trace over photos with the character models, heck i tried it myself

i took a stock image and stuck adult max face on it, next i tried to replicate the original art style from her old journal

i used pencil/marker textured brushes from clips studio for the shading

then i basically i used an empty notebook for the background while adding in watercolors (like the og did), i did not like the grey journal pages from DE i wanted something that looked vibrant but not adolescent- I sketched random stuff and even added a white pen highlighting to stay consistent with double exposure's art design

the gold star sticker is there cause duh max is a teacher now and she's being quirky about it

My other gripe with the new journal was how barren it looked, i expect max to stick random stuff like she used to.

anyways im not trying to be a smart a33 or anything, im crazy hyper fixated on user interface design stuff and im trying to show you that you can still be stylistically consistent on a zero budget cause this only took me half an hour and zero dollars

Recently I was thinking about how the plot of the original Life Is Strange would make for a PERFECT Columbo episode, and so I drew this. In this scenario, I imagine Columbo would've already cracked the case by the time the game's story begins- so Nathan is arrested before he can even confront Chloe in the bathroom, she never gets shot, Max never gets her powers, and the storm never happens because Jefferson and the Prescotts were already brought to justice for Rachel's murder. (Columbo never dealt with the supernatural after all, and it's still an interesting story even without powers being part of it). It's still a somewhat bittersweet ending as Rachel is still dead, but nobody else has to die, Max is never traumatized by her powers, and her and Chloe rekindle their relationship without having to destroy an entire town to be together.

My best friend wrote the dialogue for this one, and funnily enough it's based on what happened when I played the game for the first time- I immediately noticed what Jefferson was saying about capturing someone in a dark corner, thinking that was weirdly specific dialogue to cold the game with unless it was foreshadowing for later. And then of course you go out into the corridor, there are all the "MISSING" posters for Rachel and you can hear students gossiping about how she was in a relationship with a teacher. By the time you see her note in the junkyard in Chapter 2 I was 100% certain it was Jefferson... apparently for a lot of people it was a real twist though.

This is heart breaking, it’s sad to see actual fan artists and writers not get the recognition they deserve- I’ve seen an ai generated pricefield prom drawing get like 300+ notes

See, a computer, it can't think through things like a human can. You or I, when we look at a drawing of an apple, we can compare it to real apples we've seen. If you show us a drawing of some orange thing with spikes coming out every which way, well, we can tell you that sure doesn't look like an apple.

But a computer? All a computer can do is look at pictures of apples. And if you give that computer enough pictures of apples that are a little bit orange, or a little bit bumpy, well. It might just decide that spiky orange thing is an apple too. It takes a whole lot of pictures of apples to get the computer mostly good at guessing when things are apples or not.

Now, that's bad enough when you just want your computer to tell you what it sees. When you want a computer to make an image, though, that's where Lou says you really run into trouble. You put a piece of paper in front of me, give me a pencil, and tell me to draw an apple, it won't win any awards. But it'll be a new drawing. Nobody's ever drawn that exact same drawing the exact same way before.

But if you take your computer that's gotten pretty good at guessing when things are apples, and you tell it "okay, draw me an apple", it can't make a completely new drawing of an apple. Instead, it'll take the pictures you've given it and mash 'em together. Maybe, at the end, you won't be able to tell which pictures it used, but if you ask it for enough drawings of apples, you'll start seeing patterns...

when I saw that she died, strangely the first person I thought about was the person who runs and updates this fan account on twitter. For years they have visited her and spent time making sure she was looked after and comfortable. As sad as her passing is, it’s nice to know she was cared for and treated with dignity and love in her final years and days.

It always warms my heart to see this show get some love, it's criminally underrated. When I'm at work and nobody else is around I always seem to catch myself singing the "Archeologists" song from the first couple episodes

Look y’all can hate MJ from the Tobey maguire trilogy idc but don’t let one of your reasons be that she was “always screaming” or that she was “always a damsel in distress”. Like??? Yeah she was constantly thrown into dangerous situations and didn’t have powers to defend herself against people that attacked her.

I know for a fact that y’all would scream if you were hanging onto a collapsing piece of building for dear life too. 🤨

i had a similar idea, i think Megamind is the absolute LAST movie that ever needed a sequel but if they were going to make one anyway it shouldve been about Megamind and Metroman's daughters, pressured by society to repeat their parents' rivalry despite the fact theyre both secretly in love with each other, while also doubling as metacommentary on sequels trying to live up to their predecessors

maybe that's not great but at least its a THEME and an IDEA as opposed to nonsense for babies they ended up coming out with. i've never seen a superhero movie before where the hero and villain are secretly gay lovers, and theres a lot of places you could go with that basic premise. the original Megamind was a spin on the traditional superhero formula, the sequel could be a spin on "hero passing the candle to the next generation" formula we've seen so much of lately, as well as not wanting to repeat the mistakes of your parents and how ultimately love wins in the end. plus itd be a movie about lesbians, and lesbians are cool

I think a better megamind sequel would be like, he has a kid but is very confused on parenting and that kid grows up to be cynical about the whole superhero thing. Idk, made this idea with my girlfriend cause we both hate the tv show.

So the Megamind sequel came out and, uh, yeah. It feels so weirdly disconnected from the first movie and I don’t mean because the animation is lower budget and the voice actors are different. That’s to be expected for a direct to streaming sequel. I mean it feels like it was written by entirely different people which I thought was super weird because pretty much the only people who returned are the original writers! 

So I did some digging with my writing partner and learned that, apparently, Megamind was *heavily* tinkered with between the OG script being written and it being produced. Justin Theroux and Guillermo del Toro were creative consultants and I think, despite not having writing credits, they and maybe others must have edited the story in a big way because I found the original script and…

You can check it out here if you want (or check out a recap post here) but it’s very clear that what they wrote was a raunchy adult comedy that through the movie making process got transformed into a family-friendly flick. 

So the disconnect, imo, is two guys who are probably more interested in writing for Adult Swim than for kids being told to write a movie with no R rated jokes and without any of the other writers who worked on the first movie behind the scenes. I just wanted to put this out there because a lot of reviewers seemed confused at the fact that the writers were the same and I was too until I learned all this info.

Yeah I was embarrassing when I was 15 who isn’t. Was also Embarrassing at 16. 17. 18. 19. 20. Last week. Yesterday

I truly genuinely believe they would get along so well

I actually liked madame web.

First, the lead character is a single woman in her 30's who talks with a cat. She is good at her job, has a real appartment, is socialy akward, has a best friend and doesn't know how to act around kids nor show any maternal insticts .

Yet, after die for a few minuts and have some weird visions, somehow, she founds herself taking care and saving the life of 3 tennagers, each of them with their personality and family strugles. Like, we have seen this trope of the hero becaming a reluctant parent dozen of times - The Mandalorian, Logan, Deadpool, Kenobi, Birds of Prey, etc - and I am pretty sure none of them could handle 3 teennager girls.

Then, among discovering her powers and learn how to use them to save those girls, she also heals from her own trauma of thinking she was the cause of her mother's death, that her mother hated her and growing up without her.

I also enjoy the fact that she doesn't have any romantic interest at all and at the end, is a representation that a person with disabilities can still be a hero and very loved by their found family.

I just would have changed the opening scene by cuting it out - it would have been way more impacting for the audience if we'd found about her mother past only when Cassie did.

But again, people are giving bad reviews just because it is a female superhero movie.

Would ya'll think less of me if I told you I unironically enjoyed watching Foodfight-

I mean- I watched Jontron and Microwave Society watch it and freak out over how bad it was. And since its on YouTube for free I figured why not give it a go? And yeah they were mostly right- the movie has a lot of issues besides just the terrible animation quality XD

But I wanna give credit where credit is due. Some of the stupid jokes made me laugh, some of the character dynamics were nice too. A few of em had fun personalities and they were fun to draw in my style. Sooo I give the movie a number out of 10, I'll probably watch it again XD

I’ve been focusing on different, non-Foodfight hobbies lately but I read the junior novelization in one sitting— it’s really fascinating. A huge thank you to our fellow fan for finding and scanning it.

I’d like to make some analysis posts about it later, too.. The breakdown on this blog is really good, but like. Can we talk about the failures of the fascism allegory? Brand X invokes Nazi imagery with the armbands and goose-stepping, but they’re introduced (even more obviously in the book) as ‘oh no! this is a New Thing, and changes to the status quo are scary! Everything was great the way it was!’ When really, appealing to tradition is more the fascist M.O… Shouldn’t Lady X have presented herself as a ‘traditional’ laundry detergent, and all the other brands as new things that don’t belong? Much to think about, when you take Foodfight as seriously as I do.

today's children are gonna become teens and clown the shit out of us for 'eepy' and 'blorbo' but they'll say it in cocomelonese so we won't understand them
