How to forge titanium round bar

1. The forging of titanium round bar is mainly drawing. The whole forging process can be divided into open forging, intermediate (semi-finished) forging and finished forging. The first heat forging of ingot is called open forging, and the rest is intermediate forging and finished forging.

2. When the ingot is open, the first step is light forging and fast forging. The reduction of each stroke should be small, which is no more than 80 mm for pure titanium round bar and no more than 60 mm for alloy. When the total deformation reaches 20-30% (forging ratio 1.25-1.43), the reduction of each stroke can be increased, which is 80-100 mm for pure titanium and 60-80 mm for alloy. When the deformation is basically completed or the temperature is quite low, the deformation should be gradually reduced to avoid deformation There are cracks.

3. During normal forging drawing, the feeding amount (LO) is generally 0.75 of the hammer head width (b), that is, Lo = 0.75b. For example: for 2000t hydraulic press, B = 400mm, then Lo = 0.75b = 338MM, and the reduction should not be greater than 2 / 3 of the feed, that is ho-h = 2 / 3 lo.

4. In the first heat of finished titanium round bar products (products that can be delivered after rounding), the blank should be chamfered, that is, octagonal or dodecagonal, and the size should be appropriate, not too large or too small.

5. The forging of finished titanium round bar is mainly round breaking. When round breaking, the first pass should be pressed gently to avoid bending. In the second pass, the reduction should be increased, and each bar should be pressed at least three times to ensure the outer diameter tolerance required by the process card, and the waste heat of billet should be used for straightening. If the material temperature is too low, but the bending degree does not meet the requirements, it can be reheated for straightening. The straightening heating temperature is generally 150 ~ 200 ℃ below the phase transformation temperature, and the holding time is determined according to the size of the material. For the bars that need to be annealed, the temperature when they are discharged from the furnace after annealing can be straightened.

6. Requirements for bending: there are no special requirements for the bending of blank after open billet and intermediate forging, and the bending of bar delivered with black skin is not more than 6 mm / m when forging the finished product. For the bar delivered with bare bar, the bending is not more than 3mm / m.

7. After each heat forging, the hot cutting shall be carried out according to the required length of the process card. The hot cutting temperature is shown in Table 5, because if the temperature is too high, it is difficult to cut off and easy to deform, which will affect the blank size. If the temperature is too low, the pressure required is large, and it is not safe. The cutting angle of both ends shall not be greater than 10% of the straight diameter, and there shall be no obvious horseshoe shape. Hot cutting is not adopted for finished bar.

When the temperature of the extrusion cylinder is 400 degrees, the temperature difference can reach 200 to 250 degrees. Under the combined influence of suction strengthening and the large temperature difference of the blank section, the metal on the surface and the center of the blank produces very different strength and plastic properties, which will cause very uneven deformation during the extrusion process. Large additional tensile stress is generated in the extruded product, which becomes the source of cracks and cracks on the surface of the extruded product. The hot extrusion process of titanium rods and titanium alloy rod products is more complicated than the extrusion process of aluminum alloy, copper alloy, and even steel, which is determined by the special physical and chemical properties of titanium rods and titanium alloy rods.Industrial titanium alloy metal flow kinetics research shows that in the temperature zone corresponding to the different phase states of each alloy, the metal flow behavior is greatly different. Therefore, one of the main factors affecting the extrusion flow characteristics of titanium rods and titanium alloy rods is the heating temperature of the blank that determines the state of the metal phase transformation. Extrusion at the temperature of a or a+P phase zone is more uniform than extrusion at the temperature of p phase zone. It is very difficult to obtain high surface quality for extruded products. So far, the extrusion process of titanium alloy rods must use lubricants. The main reason is that titanium will form a fusible eutectic with iron-based or nickel-based alloy mold materials at temperatures of 980 degrees and 1030 degrees, which will cause the mold to wear strongly.The main factors affecting metal flow during extrusion:1) Extrusion method. Reverse extrusion is more uniform than forward extrusion, cold extrusion is more uniform than hot extrusion, and lubricated extrusion is more uniform than non-lubricated extrusion. The influence of the extrusion method is realized by changing the friction conditions.2) Extrusion speed. As the extrusion speed increases, the unevenness of metal flow increases.3) Extrusion temperature. When the extrusion temperature increases and the deformation resistance of the blank decreases, the uneven flow of the metal increases. During the extrusion process, if the heating temperature of the extrusion cylinder and the mold is too low, and the metal temperature difference between the outer layer and the center layer is large, the unevenness of the metal flow will increase. The better the thermal conductivity of the metal, the more uniform the temperature distribution on the end surface of the ingot.4) Metal strength. When other conditions are the same, the higher the metal strength, the more uniform the metal flow.5) Modular angle. The larger the die angle "(that is, the angle between the end face of the die and the central axis), the more uneven the metal fluidity. When using porous die extrusion, the die hole arrangement is reasonable, and the metal flow tends to be uniform.6) Deformation degree. If the degree of deformation is too large or too small, the metal will flow unevenly.
