I don’t know about you guys but if Sevika looks at me like this I will simply pass away.

Dating HCs For the Madrigal Girls
Ok so I'm just doing the ones over 18, respect that or be blocked.
Also for convenience these will all be pre-movie hcs. Just so we don't have to get into my ideas of how all of them would change as they heal and grow.
Warnings: Romance, kissing, probably swear words, kinda long post
Isabela Madrigal
You two meet in town. Maybe you're impressed with her from the beginning, maybe she has to work for your recognition but either way she is hooked on you.
She starts hoping to see you around but can't work up the courage to really seek you out for a lot of reasons, some of them dealing with her need to be perfect and some with the compulsion to do as Abuela would see fit.
Pines after you a lot because she's really into you but is seeing someone else and doesn't want to risk disappointing the family by breaking up with Mariano
Ends up seeming a lot like she hates you. She's just so frustrated by her circumstances and can't figure out how to help herself bc all her options seem terrible, and it ends up making her mouth off to you a lot because it relieves a bit of that stress.
Maybe when she accidentally pushes it and can tell she actually hurt you she panics because the last thing she wants is to hurt you or make you leave and she opens up and it's... a lot.
She yells. At one point there are tears born of some emotion she can't identify. Her fuming face is so cute.
After that you come up with the pragmatic if not morally upright solution that Isabela wishes she'd considered: secret relationship.
It's so damn easy to pull off oml
Isabela knows what's going on when in her house so she can tell when it's a good night for you to come over. She'll grow bright pink flowers on your door if she wants to see you that night, and she lets you up into her room with vines.
It's very Rapunzel-esque
You two are the cuddliest couple in private. She can't get enough of you and she demands you stay well into the night to make up for all the affection you can't share during the day.
Apologizes (albeit awkwardly) for everything she said/did before. Explains herself but not in an excuse way, she just wants you to know she never, ever held any real ill will toward you because she adores you.
Doesn't feel as guilty as she probably should for cheating on Mariano. What can she say, she's selfish. She never wanted him anyway, and it's not like he's gotta know you exist
Prefers to sneak into your room to lessen the chance of Dolores hearing you two. That loudmouth (as much love as Isa has for her) is not ruining her happiness.
She likes you playing with her hair as long as you don't tangle it, and likes to play with your hair if you'll let her. She'll definitely put flowers in it, it's a nice touch that ties you to her visually
If anyone finds out about you two she will intimidate them into silence and then run to you to privately panic.
Dolores Madrigal
You meet in town while Dolores is out getting something the family needs, idk flour or something. She finds you so cute immediately and shit she's in love this is a lot-
Gets to know you a bit and now she's really really in love. Pines a little but not much. Only, you're not engaged to her sister so she's happy to tell you exactly how she feels. And boy does she, her confession is something out of a book.
Your noise is the only good noise. If she can hear you just a bit more than she can hear everyone else she's happy
Not extremely touchy but she is affectionate. Knows all the little details of your life and has very sweet and specific compliments for you
Wants to feel like you notice her above all others. She knows she's quiet and easily overlooked when paired with flamboyant siblings who have flashy gifts and three outspoken, charismatic cousins. You're the one person whose focus is her and she loves that.
Goes to you when she's overwhelmed from all the noise and just wants to hang out quietly.
Probably reads to you when you're cuddling, I see her as a reader of romance novels.
Has a very sneaky sense of humor. You don't realize how funny she is until you're together but man is she a firecracker.
Probably introduces you to her family very quickly. She wants them to know who has her so happy.
Camilo is a menace as usual and will try to pass himself off as your friends and relatives to see what you say about her. He needs teasing material for his big sis okay?
Félix needs you to simp for Dolores the way he simps for Pepa or he doesn't fully approve. But he likes you fine either way and he knows his baby can handle herself.
Pepa cried and soaked the room. Antonio immediately asked if you're going to be the next Madrigal. Dolores was so embarrassed but like 👀👀👀👀 would you like to???
Likes to steal your clothes or accessories and wouldn't mind it if you did the same. It's just nice to see you parading around flaunting something that you got from her
You'll rub off on her and she might pick up some of your mannerisms. She doesn't mean to, you're just so cute it's contagious!
Tells you the hottest gossip and the rat telenovelas. She likes to come to you with all this information because a lot of the time like with Bruno she can't tell anybody else.
Couple with the vibes of a pair of old cats.
Luisa Madrigal
Oh god. Are you trying to kill her?! She sees you for the first time while she's hauling the donkeys around and she nearly drops one because sweet mother of fuck you're pretty.
Her crush on you is obvious from the beginning. She goes out of her way to talk to you, invites you on walks with her when she's working (gotta be efficient improvise adapt overcome), pretty much memorizes everything about you and if she had it her way your feet may never touch the ground again with how often she carries you.
Please put her out of her misery and ask her out, she's never gonna get a hint because her default setting is 'I am physically incapable of emotions that are unproductive'
Still more or less the same. "I have such a crush on my gf" vibes
Calls you every nickname in the book, and even the way she says your normal name feels like a pet name
Such a sucker for the soft affection. Kiss the back of her hand and you can see the flustered feeling bubble-ify her lungs.
Scalp massages when she takes her hair out of its bun? Rub her neck and shoulders because damn babe you sure do carry all that tension right here? Any excuse to have you touching her babe, it's the most soothing thing in the world to her.
Bear hugs that crush your soul back into your body quite nicely. Weighted blanket? Who needs one? You have Luisa.
Her parents trust her so you can sleep in her room and she gives the best cuddles. You always feel so warm and welcome and safe.
The secret room Casita gave her inside her normal room is a fantastic date spot, she loves it in there
She has a huge sweet tooth (I picture her being specifically a sea salt and caramel kind of girl) and if you get or make her something she's gonna be so happy
You're gonna have to build your schedule around her schedule because her work comes before even her own health
If you manage to convince her to take a break or rest a bit she will need you to take her mind off her responsibilities completely or else she'll be too anxious to have a good time
She'd loooooove to have a relaxing girls' night in type deal where you do those at home spa treatments and face masks and paint each other's nails and watch movies. It just feels so soft, which is something she never gets to be.
Opens up to you... kind of. She tells you stuff like how she wishes she had more time for you and on bad days she lets you comfort her but you don't truly know for certain how much it's all weighing on her until she completely breaks. She relies on you so heavily when that happens.
An early riser but won't force you to be. She'll be happy to bring you breakfast in bed on special occasions though, and she really treats you like royalty.
Okay say this with me:
👏🏼 Luisa 👏🏼 loves 👏🏼 being 👏🏼 little 👏🏼 spoon 👏🏼
She loves being held close and loves the feeling of a pair of arms wrapped safely around her. She wouldn't admit it to you any time soon, though.
The Madrigals x gn!Reader
Fluff - Romantic
Requested: No
[Word Count: 941]
The Madrigals are used to seeing most citizens of Encanto frequently, so it's always a shock when they see someone new. They just weren't expecting for that person to be so stunning.
- My first Encanto piece because I'm lowkey scared to write for this movie. It's short for that same reason, sorry! -
Pt. 2
Camilo and Mirabel involved, 18+ DON'T READ THEIR PARTS (they're last)
Luisa, Isabela, Dolores, Camilo, and Mirabel included
Luisa
She was just helping out with moving carts around when she saw you out of the corner of her eye
After doing a double take, she almost dropped the cart she had in her hand
You were the most stunning person she had ever seen
Luisa instantly became mesmerized with how you moved, elegantly and with purpose as you looked about the Encanto
When you looked back at her and smiled, Luisa felt her heart stop for a moment
She wanted to go up to you and say something, anything, but her mind had drawn a blank
And so she just stared as you turned and walked down the opposite road, waving at passersby as you went
She didn’t stop thinking about you for the rest of the day, running through speeches in her head so that next time she saw you, she would have something to say
Isabela
Through the haze of countless purple and pink flower petals, Isabela almost didn’t see you at first
Once the curtain fell, though, you were the first person her eyes went to
You were just a member of the crowd, watching and cheering along with everyone else, but you stood out enough to catch her eye
You seemed to glow as if you were made of the sun itself, illuminating your frame as you clapped for her show
She would never admit it, but Isabela knows that a few mismatched flowers sprouted along the length of her hair when you smiled at her
After the kids had run off to go be entertained by Camilo, Isabela rushed towards you to make her standard greeting
For some reason she couldn’t explain, she fumbled with her words for a moment, stuttering as you took her hand to shake
Dolores watched the whole thing, and needless to say, the whole Madrigal family was instantly in on the plan to get their dear Isabela to talk to this mysterious newcomer
Dolores
The commotion of Encanto tends to keep Dolores away, but something compelled her to visit just this one day
As she was wandering about, picking out certain fruits for Julieta to cook with, she accidentally bumped into someone at a stand
Dolores turned to apologize, but the words got caught in her throat when she made eye contact with you
Time seemed to move slower than usual as you smiled at her, apologizing for running into her
“No, no, I’m sorry for bumping into you,” Dolores said, her quiet voice even softer than usual
You and her actually struck up a conversation, and Dolores realized just how easy it was for her to talk to you. It felt natural, and she instantly got a sense of safety just from this one moment with you
When you parted ways, Dolores couldn’t get you off of her mind, even spilling her own secret to her family at dinner that night
She would later send Camilo out to search for you while he did his chores so he could tell you that Dolores wishes to see you again, and that she wanted to invite you to a dinner at their Casita
Camilo
Camilo was supposed to be entertaining the kids when you stopped by
He shifted back into himself, watching with a slightly parted mouth as one of the children he was playing with ran into the arms of the most enchanting person he had ever seen
You stood, chuckling at your younger sibling, and thanked him for watching over them
Camilo nodded numbly before he came to his senses, literally shaking himself out of it
He caught you before you could get too far away, gently grabbing you by the shoulder and introducing himself
You two hit it off better than Camilo expected, and you even stuck around to help him handle the kids while he went off to help with some more chores he had around Encanto
When he returned, Camilo thanked you profusely, and offered to meet up with you again sometime
While on the surface it looked like a smooth way to ask for you to hang out with him more, Camilo’s face was probably hotter than a summer’s day and he was fighting the urge to shift bodies just so he wasn’t sweating as badly
When he watched you walk away with your little sibling in tow, he couldn’t help shifting into you, completely lost in thought (the kids loved this and now refuse to stop mocking him for it, much to Camilo’s dismay)
Mirabel
Mirabel figured that day to be just like all the others until she saw you talking to a sweet old lady that seemed to be pointing out the way to somewhere
She watched as you thanked the lady and turned to leave before she came to her senses and scrambled to follow you, insisting that it wasn’t in a creepy way or anything and she just wanted to say hi
You heard her footsteps and abruptly stopped, spinning on your heel to be met face-to-face with Mirabel Madrigal - her glasses askew and fists clenching the fabric of her skirt
Mirabel hastily introduced herself with a nervous grin, violently extending her hand for a shake
You could tell she was nervous but humored her, acting like this was any old greeting (which you had been doing lots of as of late)
You explained that you were new to Encanto and that your family had moved here only a week ago, to which Mirabel offered to show you around
When you accepted, Mirabel waited for you to turn around before holding a mini-celebration with herself, quickly fist bumping the air

@bwall-7204 the wedding suggestion
You stood for a moment, preparing yourself for what ever was going to happen as you knocked on Tia Peppa and Tio Felix’s door. You gathered your courage rapped sharply twice.
“Come in!” Tia Peppa called.
“I’m sorry to disturb you, but I need your help.” Tio Felix and Tia Peppa fixed their attention on you, from where they sat on the bed. “Please teach me to lead.” You requested. The cloud above Tia Peppa’s head malfunctioned and Tio Felix looked horribly confused. “For the purposes of dancing.” You clarified quickly.
“Oh!” They said simultaneously, sharing a look for relief.
“You’ve come to the right Madrigals then.” Felix said.
“Right, for the other, you should probably talk to Abuela.” Peppa agreed.
“How much do you know?” Felix said getting to his feet.
“Uhh, nothing.” You said.
“You want to learn by the wedding, right?” Peppa asked, looking over at her husband.
“Is that too much of an ask? I understand if it is!” You said quickly, starting to back out.
“Of course not!” Felix announced, “Why do you want to lead though?”
“Wellll, I’ve noticed that when Luisa is dancing with her sisters or her cousin, she tends to lead, and I thought it would be nice if she could follow for once.” You said, rubbing the back of your neck. Soft rain drops began to fall as Peppa started to cry.
“That’s so cute!” She walked over to you, taking both of your hands in hers. “Of course we’ll teach you!”
Wedding planning was starting to make everyone in Casita Madrigal a bit crazy. You had been placed on Agustin duty, ensuring that, however he helped didn’t result in serious injuries. Often, Augstin duty overlapped with mother of the bride duty as you tried to help keep Peppa from unleashing a hurricane at any minor inconvenience. Thankfully, dance lessons seemed to distract her enough that you could keep her calm, and Augstin was surprisingly helpful.
“You don’t have to tense that much. Your follow will know to hold themselves up a little bit.” He said, safely seated in a fort of pillows.
“And smile!” Peppa added. “This is supposed to be fun.” You nodded, only to get zapped with mini lightning when Peppa saw one of Tio Bruno’s rats absconding with a decoration. You really did try not to drop her, but the sharp pain in your hand had caused you to jerk away.
“I’m so sorry!” You said, helping her up.
“You’re fine, dear. I shouldn’t have shocked you.” Peppa soothed before stalking off to go get the rat.
“I’m going to go see Julietta, please don’t leave the pillow fort.” You said to Agustin. He gave a thumbs up and you walked into the kitchen, guarding your injured hand.
“Just me.” You called into the kitchen before pushing open the door.
“Angel! What happened?” Luisa’s joy turned to concern at the way you were holding your hand.
“Tia Peppa shocked me on accident.” You said.
“Let me see.” Julietta, bustled past her daughter to look at the scorch mark on your hand. She nodded slowly. “Do you have any discomfort or numbness anywhere else?”
“No.” You said, smiling a little as Luisa slipped behind you to put her arms around you.
“Here.” Julietta said, handing you an Arepa. “Let me know if that hasn’t resolved everything.”
“Yes ma’am.” You promised before eating. In an instant your hand felt good as new. “I should get back to keeping an eye on your dad.” You turned in Luisa’s arms to face her. She nodded and stole a kiss as a voice from outside called for her.
“Coming!” She gave an exasperated look skyward before leaving you.
You walked back to where you had left Augstin. He and Abuela were having a conversation which abruptly stopped as you approached.
“Inventive solution.” Abuela commented, gesturing at the pillow tower.
“Thank you.”
“It seems you have many such interesting solutions. Keeping Peppa calm with dance lessons was an excellent idea.”
“Thank you, Abuela.”
“Is there a particular reason you want to lead?” She asked, raising a single eyebrow.
“I wanted to surprise Luisa.” You said, wondering faintly if you had done something wrong. Abuela only smiled and inclined her head before walking off. You looked at Agustin.
“What was that about?” He looked like he didn’t want to answer, but couldn’t hold out under the force of your stare.
“She just worries about her grandchildren. And that maybe you learning to lead, could upset Luisa inadvertently by taking her role.”
“Oh.”
“I think it’s good for her, actually, and said as much. We find the people we need in this family, someone to take care of my daughter when she forgets to care for herself is exactly the remedy needed.” You took a step forward and hugged him.
“Thank you.”
“Of course. You make her happy, what more could a father ask?”
Tempers began to fray even more as the wedding grew closer. Dolores became increasingly overwhelmed as her soon to be mother-in-law kept trying to insinuate herself into every detail of planning, and dance lessons with Peppa was the perfect way to keep her from cycloning the poor woman. It was a blessing when Abuela finally sat Mariano down and instructed him to distract his mother.
The day of the wedding dawned with clear skies, and you were placed on, don’t let Tio Bruno say a single word about the weather duty. You hadn’t been sure if the same trick would work on him that had worked on Tia Peppa, but it was worth a shot.
“Yeah, sure, but we should switch back and forth.” You blinked at him. “She’s probably not going to want to follow the whole time. This’ll keep you from getting stuck in one mode.”
“Oh, that makes a lot of sense.”
The two of you spent the majority of the morning dancing as everyone in the wedding party prepared and double and triple checked that nothing was going to go wrong. You assembled at the church, taking a seat next to Bruno toward the back.
“This reminds me of last season of my telenovella where Bernard and Anglica were to be married.” He whispered to you about the convoluted plot as the other guests filtered in. Nod along getting more and more invested with each passing moment.
Soon the groom, groomsmen, and the bridesmaids came in, Camilo, Luisa, Mirabel, all waved as they walked past. Isa, who was the maid of honor, gave a cordial nod. Antonio, was the ring bearer, and walked before the flower girl, one of Mariano’s relatives. The jaguar escorted him before circling back and walking with the frightened flower girl.
“Should have had Isabella do that.”Tio Bruno murmured, you fought back a laugh, making a mental not to ask her to for your wedding.
Dolores floated down the aisle in her mother’s wedding gown, Tio Felix an inconsolable wreck next to her. As she reached the pew where her mother sat, a torrential rain hit the church and Tia Peppa sobbed into Abuela’s shawl. The ceremony was simple, sweet, and without a dry eye in the church, even the priest she’d a few tears.
Talking Tia Peppa down enough to make going outside safe took about a half hour. And the guests picked their way out of the church, being mindful of any fallen limbs or shingles. Luisa was tasked with clearing out the worst of the debris and you scurried away to help.
“I got it.” You said, waving her away from a smaller limb.
“You should go enjoy the party.”
“I’ll enjoy it far more with you there than I will without.” You said, grabbing a couple broken shingles. Luisa gave a resigned sigh, smiling at you affectionately. On the walk back, you held hands and swung them back and forth. She grinned and twirled you. You tripped, falling against her chest.
“Sorry!” Luisa said, steadying you.
“It’s fine!” You laughed, “being close to you hasn’t ever been a problem for me.”
You made it back to the reception just in time for the first dance. You grinned as you watched the wedded couple twirling around the floor. Soon the floor opened up to all couples and you held out your hand to Luisa.
“Dance with me?” She raised an eyebrow, but placed her hand in yours to be lead onto the floor. She moved to put her hand on your waist. “No no, I asked you to dance, let me lead.” That earned another eyebrow raise.
“If you’re sure.” She conceded, a small smile on her lips. That doubting smile turned to an expression of shock which turned to full, proper smile.
“When did you learn to dance?” She asked after a particularly complex move that you managed to lead pretty well.
“I may have begged some of your family for help.” You said. She laughed when she noticed the thumbs up from Tio Felix. “I’m going to dip you.” You warned.
“If you think you can.”
“If I think I can? I’ll have you know I only dropped Tia Peppa a couple of times, and one of them wasn’t entirely my fault.” She laughed, and as the song came to an end, you went into the dip. You help that pose for a moment, both breathless and smiling when a flash of a camera surprised you both. Agustin stood with the camera, grinning, before walking away to go photograph other people. You helped her back to standing and she stole a kiss.
The next song started and she grabbed your hip.
“My turn.”
Sleeping with Luisa was a very comforting experience 99.9 Percent of the time. Luisa was the cuddle queen, and had a special appreciation for warm fluffy blankets. However, there was the .01 percent that could be a real beast. You woke up with severe pain radiating from your ribs and made some alarmed and pained noises that snapped Luisa back to consciousness.
“Huh? Wha? Oh! Oh My God What Did I Do?!?” Luisa was across the room, hair disheveled, and night gown off a shoulder as she stoop looking horrified in less time than it took Camilo to prank someone.
“Baby, darling, sweetheart, it’s fine, really.” You lied. Each breath really hurt, but let’s face it, talking Luisa down was sort of priority. You moved to sit up, wincing more. “I’ll go wake your mom, hell I can tell her I was out for a little stroll and tripped down the stairs.” Luisa’s lower lip started quivering and her eyes welled with tears.
“I’m so sorry!” She sobbed, her eyes frantic.
“Honey, angel, amor,” you soothed, walking over and hugging her, in-spite of the screaming ribs. “What happened?
“I-I had a n-nightmare. I didn’t know!” You did your best to rock her back and forth, trying desperately to ignore the ouch in your chest. “Tell me everything.” You started humming to try to bring her off the emotional ledge.
“Th-there were people chasing us, and I lost you in the people running, and I couldn’t find anyone, and my strength went away, and then there were spiders.”
“Oh love, of course you were hugging me tight, I’d be scared too.” You coaxed her to sit on the floor, making it easier to stroke her hair and dry her cheeks.
“I hurt you.” She whispered, almost ashamed.
“It wasn’t intentional, and nothing a snack courtesy of your mom won’t fix.” You promised, bringing her head to your chest. “I love you so much, my gentle Luisa.” A knock sounded at the door, followed by a tired looking Julietta and a concerned Dolores entering the room.
“Mama, I hurt her.” Luisa whimpered, as Julietta took over your place, Dolores handed you a quesadilla, which was eaten gratefully. The relief was instant as your ribs went back where they were supposed to go.
“Good as new.” You announced, kneeling before Luisa. “Light of my life, why don’t we go back to bed?” Pure apprehension flooded her face. “Odds are it won’t happen more than once in a night.” You pointed out.
“She’s right. Get some rest. You need a good nights sleep.” Julietta said, petting Luisa’s hair and kissing her daughter’s face.
“A-alright.” Luisa agreed, standing up and hugging her mother and cousin. You mouthed your thanks as they left the room, earning nods and smiled of acknowledgment. You held out your arms, making grabby hands.
“I could do with some snuggles, I’m starting to get cold.” Luisa gingerly picked you up, setting you on the bed with the utmost care, curling around you.
“I love you. I’m sorry.”
“I know. I love you too.

A/N: bringing you more Sevika goodness! This wasn't requested but I got the idea and had to write it before it got lost in the void of all the other ideas that I should definitely write down.
Sevika sticks close to you when ever you go out
Being a bodyguard is her job, but she's doing that out of duty and respect for Silco, and for you she does it out of her love for you
Sevika work is rather dangerous so she tries to keep you away from the nitty gritty of it all, even though she can only do so much to protect you from it in Zaun
However because of that she also wants to make sure you're prepared to defend yourself
Often it's enough for you to just name drop Sevika to make people back off
Sevika likes having you close, she likes to keep an eye on you so she can move in if anyone messes with you
She gets into fights a lot and doesn't mind showing off for you during a fight, or just re-establishing her status as Silco's right hand and one of the scariest people in Zaun
She's tough, snarky and dominant with everyone else but with you she shows her softer side
It took her a long time to open up to you and let herself be vulnerable with you
You were actually surprised when she revealed her gentler side to you and returned your affections, you were surprised to find such a protective person behind that rough and hard exterior
Sevika is very gentle with you with her metal arm, always making sure she doesn't hurt you when she's hugging you
And likes to hug you, in private of course
She makes you fell safe and you make her happy, ridiculously so
Before she met you she thought happiness was getting to work for Zaun's top crime lord, getting to have all that money and influence and power
But then she met you, this person that she didn't think very much of at first but slowly melted her hard exterior and you became someone she always wants by her side

no warnings. fluff and a tiny bit of angst (?)
—
I wiped my hands off on my old shirt, stepping back to take one final look at my painting. It was a portrait of my girlfriend, Luisa, riding a unicorn. She hadn’t asked me to paint it for her but I figured it would be a nice surprise. After staring at it for a few seconds longer, I let out a sigh of relief, feeling accomplished. It was perfect, just as my muse. A sudden knock at my door broke my trance.
“Cariño? Are you home? It’s Luisa.” I rolled my eyes endearingly, as no one called me “cariño” but Luisa. I quickly covered up my painting with a cloth and opened the door to my beautiful, big softie of a girlfriend.
“Luisa, hey, what are you doing here? I thought you still had things to take care of.” Luisa’s shoulders sank and her eyes started to get a glassy look, filled with tears.
“What’s wrong, angel?” I asked, furrowing my brows. Her face contorted as she let tears fall from her eyes. I stepped outside and wrapped her in a tight hug, running my hand along her back.
“Come inside, mi vida, here, sit down.” I led her to the couch and sat down next to her. She immediately laid down with her head on my lap, signaling that she wanted me to play with her hair. I gently removed her red ribbon and undid her braid, combing my fingers through her thick hair. I could hear her trying to steady her breathing so I gave her a few minutes before saying anything else.
After about 5 minutes, her quickened breathing had slowed down to a regular pace. I glanced down at Luisa. Her eyes were closed, but she was stroking my thigh with her left hand gently.
“Do you wanna talk about it?” I asked softly, continuing to run my fingers through her hair. Luisa let out a deep sigh.
“I was in the middle of doing my afternoon chores around town when this really angry guy came up to me. I didn’t remember him at first but I guess he was someone who I had helped a few days ago?” Luisa paused and took another deep breath.
“… Anyway, he starts yelling at me about crates of fruit that i had forgotten to move the previous day, and he said that some animals had gotten to them and ate everything. I was just so busy that day that it must’ve slipped my mind. I felt really bad but I couldn’t get a word in because he wouldn’t stop yelling at me!”
I felt Luisa’s breath quicken again.
“He wouldn’t stop yelling… he called me useless… and stupid… and I couldn’t take it anymore so I just stormed off, while he continued to yell after me.”
My heart sank. All of this over some fruit? It must have been aggravating, yes, but that’s no way to speak to anyone. But especially not Luisa, the one person who was constantly busting their ass around town helping people, rarely getting so much as a “please” or “thank you.” And of course Luisa wouldn’t tell him off, she was too passive for that. My brief sadness turned into anger, but I tried to hide it for Luisa’s sake.
“I don’t like… being yelled at…” Luisa’s voice cracked and her breathing hitched again, cueing tears to start falling again.
“I know, angelita, I know.” I ran my hand up and down her left arm gently, petting her head while she tried to calm down.
“I’m really sorry that you had to go through that. People make mistakes, people forget things. He shouldn’t’ve have reacted the way he did. You’re still only human.” Luisa tried to steady her breathing again. She took my hand from her arm and planted a kiss on it.
“Thank you cariño. I’m so grateful for you.” Luisa lifted her head off my lap and faced me, looking into my eyes. She quickly glanced at my lips, and gave me a soft but tired smile. Before she could say anything I leaned in and kissed her, cupping her face in my hand while wiping away her tears.
“I love you too, angel.” I planted a final kiss on her forehead, and she snuggled up against me, resting her head on my shoulder. We played with each others’ hands while sitting in a comfortable silence. After a while Luisa spoke.
“What’re you working on over there?” She asked sleepily, motioning to my cloth-covered easel. My heart skipped a beat. I was nervous to show her my painting but I figured now was as good a time as any.
“Oh! Well…” I slowly got up from my spot on the couch and made my way over to my painting.
“It’s a.. painting. Of you!” I said, almost a little too enthusiastically, removing the cloth from the easel. Luisa sat upright, her mouth agape and eyes twinkling with surprise. She walked over to the painting, studying every detail and brushstroke.
“This is… I… Wow! This is gorgeous, cariño! I sure hope I’d look that good riding a unicorn.” Luisa and I giggle, and she lifts me off the ground, pulling me into a tight hug.
“What did I do to deserve you?” Luisa asked quietly, more to herself. I pepper her cheek with kisses, getting another giggle out of her. She sets me back on the ground, with a look of serenity on her face. I could tell that she was exhausted from the day she’d had.
“Do you want to go upstairs and take a nap?” I ask, grabbing her hand gently.
“That would be nice.” Luisa says softly, as we make our way to my room. I pulled back the covers on my bed and fluffed my pillows as Luisa stripped down to her undergarments. I didn’t feel the need to change since I was already wearing an old shirt. I laid down on my bed, waiting for Luisa to join me. I opened my arms to her and she climbed into them, leaning her face into my chest. I planted a kiss on top of her head, while she wrapped her arms around my waist.
She drifted to sleep in my arms pretty quickly, and I soon joined her in my dreams.

@bwall-7204 the wedding suggestion
“My turn.”
