At long last: BancalaWalker Splatoon 3 Band Information Translations

Yoko & The Gold Bazookas [An avant-garde sound that pleasantly stimulates the senses] A band that Yoko, Oonie, and Kitamura started outside of their own band, Ink Theory. It’s not as though they had a falling out with Karen and the others, but rather that the timid trio wanted to forge their mental fortitude and train themselves as warriors by doing a short-term music session with some like-minded fierce performers at a live music club in the Splatlands. Yoko [Trumpet] Inkling (unique specimen) Somehow or another she wanted to try something new, so she started a short-term music session with the fierce performers at a live music club in the Splatlands. Although she’s the central figure of the band that bears her name, she doesn’t stand out much due to the colorful personalities of the other members that have gathered. After being invited to perform at Brinewater Springs, she got hooked on table tennis. Oonie [Bass] Hemicentrotus Was invited to join by Yoko. She purchased a 300,000 geso costume for live performances using credit. She is frequently lectured by Martin about her musical performance for that day, with her writing down notes while feeling hollow. However, this just goes to show the high hopes they have of her. Kitamura [Drums] Long-spined sea urchin Was invited to join by Yoko. Carries with her by far the most luggage out of everyone on this expedition tour. Recently, there’s been many children born into her family, and she finds it soothing to gaze at the photos of these larval sea urchins. Tao Blu [Trombone] Blue-ringed octopus Raised by a mother who is a master of the Splatlands koto, and a father who plays the shakuhachi and works for the Hohojiro family. They studied abroad at a young age and established their independence as a trombonist. They’re generally the one playing the trombone in any songs on the hit charts, regardless of genre, and are known as the musician you’d call first for the job. For their solo work, they go by the name “TAO”. Has been an ardent fan of Shiver for a decade now, but does their best to hide this. Tosh [Baritone Saxophone] Flower urchin A baritone saxophonist whose activities are based overseas. In the brass band they joined in middle school, they lost a game of rock-paper-scissors and got saddled with playing the baritone saxophone no one else chose. However, they now have no intention of playing anything else. When a funny story is told, they laugh for such a long stretch of time that they’re frequently witnessed laughing all on their own. Martin [Guitar/Vocals] Taonius borealis They were once the guitarist of the legendary band formed 50 years ago called ''The Colorful Vagabonds'', but the band broke up when the manager of the production company they belonged to was arrested for embezzlement. This left Martin saddled with huge debts. They were the host of the jam session that brought the members of this group together. Jessika [Organ] Ram's horn squid At the age of 14, they won an international organ competition. To date they have been invited to give recitals at numerous venues, such as the Goosefish International Music Festival, the Philharmonic Mackerel, and the Scallop Cathedral. They had been regularly going to these jam sessions for a while just because, and somehow became part of the group. However, they seem to be enjoying being in the band more than people around them think. Has never been in a casual dining restaurant, but would really like to go to one.

H2Whoa [The Inkopolis style that melts softly into the Splatlands] A new-generation band mainly active in Inkopolis Square, formed by Lionel and Cory, who were influenced by Wet Floor. Their music, which combines an urban feel with the intensity of alternative rock, has made them popular among teenagers. Their activities are more centered around studio recordings rather than live performances. Lionel [Vocals/Keyboard] Mimic Octopus They started playing music due to the influence of their older sister, who is a contemporary dancer. Cory is their childhood friend, and they both attended the same international school. They like tracksuits and wear a different one every day. They generally have a flippant personality, but when it comes to music they have their own aesthetic sensibilities, and is famous for refusing to compromise on the particulars. They are in charge of composing music, which is based on humming recorded in voice memos. Those memos are then offloaded onto Cory. Cory [Guitar] Anchor coral After graduating from high school, they intended to become a nursery teacher, but Lionel invited them to form a band. Is skilled in a variety of instruments and equipment, and can also arrange music. They sometimes get fed up with Lionel's overly detailed requests, but they usually bite their tongue. They're cranky in the mornings, as every day they wake up to the flickering light of their own hair. They've had the experience of being enrolled in a private music school run by Hightide Era's guitarist, Nishida.

Riot Act [An unknown supernova sparking in the indie world] C-Side's guitarist, Kiki, recruited friends to form this band to pursue music more complex and showy than C-Side's, while maintaining the same level of heaviness and impulsiveness. While the initial plan for the band was for them to only play short jam sessions, their heavy-hitting sound has been a hit among the rugged Splatlandian youths, and they've garnered an extremely enthusiastic fanbase. Yakko [Drums] Yellow longnose butterflyfish The oldest out of the band. Popular for their heavy drumming, which is hard to imagine from their thin build. Says that cleaning up and transporting the drums is a huge pain in the ass, and that "I think about quitting every time I do it". Their unique fashion sense is also popular, and their stylings have been featured in magazines. Announced on Ikasutagram last year that they had married an actress, a tigerstriped catfish. Nia [Vocals] Piranha Their mother is a famous singer and their father is a guitarist. From childhood, they grew up surrounded by music. In high school they bit their homeroom teacher, and was kicked out of their home. After that, they started playing in a band while earning a living by working part-time. While at their favorite bar, they were scouted by Kiki and joined Riot Act. Kiki [Guitar] Peacock Bass In regards to being in two bands at once, they claim "I can make it work in my own way". For “No Plan Survives,” Kiki invited Finn Feeder as a guest, a violinist from Bottom Feeders who C-Side's Baker once said he wanted to perform with, as if to get one step ahead of Baker. The usual bad behavior coupled with back and forths of “yeah, of course you'd do something like that” at one point led to a fight breaking out between Riot Act fans and C-Side fans, but Kiki was off on a snowboarding trip and had no idea. Yanagi [Bass] Japanese sea nettle An active bassist who was also working in a music studio when they were recruited by Kiki. In a band with such free-spirited members, they play a valuable role of being able to handle the administrative side of things. Was once bitten by a drunken Nia, and proceeded to beat them half to death.

Chirpy Chips [Repeat listens are inevitable! The addictive blips and beeps!] A four-piece band well known for their catchy chiptune sounds and their peculiar anemone vocalist, Harmony. Their new song, “No Quarters,” has “captured the spirit of the emergence of Splatlandian wildness” according to songwriters, or fans will say things like “it has a sense of melancholy, as if the band is about to break up.” However, these deep readings into the song are completely misguided, and the song has no particular meaning to it. Another new song, "Slopping Spree," was the first song they created before their major label debut, but has now been officially recorded. Harmony [Vocals] Sea anemone In the absence of its owner, she runs the general store: Hotlantis. Despite her halfhearted attitude, the store, which had been in the red since its inception, has become extremely profitable. Clash [Guitar/Chorus] Inkling He is responsible for the energy of Chirpy Chips. He’s as sporadic as ever, but recently the youths have started calling him “Mr. Clash” more and more, and that has led to thoughts like “looks like I’ve become an industry mainstay” getting into his head a bit. Orion [Bass] Japanese flapjack octopus The band’s composer. They also provide music for virtual singers under the alias "△P.” They usually travel by train, but since they’ve been traveling to meetings more often, they’ve been considering getting a license. Sid [Drums] Crab The eldest member. Recently, his back pain has been bothering him. Generally, the other members of Chirpy Chips are uninterested in other bands, but he always keeps up with the latest hit bands. Recently, Riot Act has been a favorite of his and he’s gone to many of their live shows. He tried to befriend the band’s drummer, Yakko, through DMs, but has been dejected by the lack of a response.

C-Side A three-piece band repping the Splatlands. They have pushed their way to the top with their natural-born sensitivity and rebellious spirit. The frontman, Baker, often speaks out against Inkopolitan music, especially Squid Squad. He has many fans—and many haters. Baker [Bass/Vocals] Inkling During his student days he was part of the sports club, but he just couldn’t cut it as a regular member and became completely absorbed in music. After graduation, he worked at a small company doing maintenance for Tower Control, but he couldn’t abandon his love for music and thus started a band. While viewing the two teams waging turf wars, he concluded that he was simply on another level than either side, and named his band after the idea of a “C-Side Squid”. Kiki [Guitar/Vocals] Peacock Bass The child of the director of a large company. In their early childhood, they snuck into their father’s audio room and heard the marvel of music. In their student days, they formed a band called “Ornamental Fish”, but it was disbanded during their freshman year. During a certain live performance, they played hooky for their part and slipped out through the back entrance, where they encountered Baker for the first time. They’re prone to wanderlust, and once left C-Side for a certain time to play in a metal band. Walter [Drums] Porcupinefish They were first known to Kiki as their janitor at their high school. They’re slightly older than the other two, and are fond of the pure kind of metal. They have a penchant for dark humour and frequently unveil jokes to Kiki. However, Kiki has more or less seen it all and never seems too phased, so these jokes often don’t end up seeing the light of day. Front Roe Formerly known as Squid Squad, the group became a breakout success in Inkopolis, but suspended their activities as they were tired of being deified. After their bass guitarist Ikkan’s departure, 004Clm joined the band as bass guitarist, the band changed its name, and they started over. With the absence of Ikkan who was known for his intensity, the band has adopted a melodic, emo-like, loud rock color. 001Nite [Guitar/Vocals] Inkling Since Squid Squad's hiatus, his deification increased even more and his number of followers continued to rise. He doesn’t have a cell phone and even his bandmates have a hard time contacting him. 002Wsb [Synthesizer] Inkling The mastermind behind their disguised album art. Her latest hobby is collecting tea ceremony utensils. She’s running a channel on a video site that teaches loosely but maniacally about jazz theory and synth music creation. It’s “surprisingly gentle, cute, and easy to understand” and is rapidly gaining subscribers. 003Soss [Drums] Long-spined sea urchin Compared to the other members whose backgrounds are difficult to determine, he has an open personality and makes frequent media appearances. He’s currently active as a session musician and music producer. His vocabulary of beats and drum fills has increased since his Squid Squad days. 004Clm [Bass] Yesso scallop He was invited to join the band by 003Soy. He’s previously worked as a bass player for “HAPPOUSAI” and “XOSauce.”

Damp Socks feat. Off the Hook The two members of Off the Hook, who got a taste of what it was like to be in a band at HaikaLive and TentaLive, formed this band under a different name than just "Off the Hook" to make powerful music with a live band feel to it. The band was created by scouting for some fresh unknowns on the Internet. Pearl [Vocals] Inkling In New Sardine, a port town visited on their world tour, the frequency emitted by Pearl's voice has doubled the catch of the fish. The mayor of New Sardine paid her a courtesy visit for her help in restoring the city's fishing industry, which had been in a continuous decline. Marina [Piano/Vocals] Octoling During the world tour, she was working on eight projects at the same time, and after the tour, the number of propositions increased even more. She's also actively taking on new genres of work, and is currently working on the musical accompaniment for the movie “The Paradox of the Mantle,” coming to theaters next summer. Vinny Mack [Guitar] Mackerel A mackerel who was born in a good family. Fast on their feet and was a member of a track and field team, but retired due to an injury. Not knowing what to do with their spare time, they started playing the guitar. A video they uploaded online of themselves practicing their superb technique became a hot topic, and caught the attention of Pearl, who scouted Vinny out. Garris [Drums] East Asian common octopus They're from a small island off the coast of the Splatlands. They are also a traditional taiko drummer, and their natural sense of rhythm and powerful performances are their strong points. Pearl scouted out Garris after happening to come across a video they uploaded for fun, called "I used 8 arms and 16 different percussion instruments to try to play the Calamari Inkantation." Likes to take long baths. John Goose [Bass] Atlantic footballfish A bass player who works moreso behind-the-scenes. Despite having outstanding skills, they're not out in the public eye, and rather has been active as a studio musician. John has played on many albums by famous artists both nationally and abroad. Joined the band after Pearl, whom they met at the studio, pulled them out. Their hobby is to watch the insects that are attracted to the light on their head. Squid Sisters An idol unit consisting of Callie in the “boke” role and Marie in the “tsukkomi” role. Their dancing and singing skills are both outstanding. Recently, they've been making their presence felt in the creative space, with Callie writing lyrics for other artists and Marie having a keen interest in song composition. Callie [Vocals] Inkling A single of hers from 8 years ago, "Bomb Rush Blush", blew up online after someone volunteered to create a short-form video dance trend for it. Callie herself decided to also hop on the trend, but her version ended up being so overwhelmingly the “correct” way of doing it that the trend fizzled out. She's a little bit remorseful about this. Marie [Vocals] Inkling She’s really into the drama “Love’s Tall Wooden Clogs -The Wooden Sandals’ Winter Daphne-” that’s produced in the Splatlands. At first, she made fun of the cheesy acting and the obvious use of eye drops instead of the real deal, but she was drawn in by the fast-paced plot and became engrossed. Callie got worried for her when she cried watching it during a commute on the train.

Deep Cut A trio of mischievous rascals who remain undefeated in Splatsville. Their individual singing voices and dancing unite into one and draw all that witness into a whirlpool of frenzy and chaos. They are especially popular locally, and serve as the hosts of Anarchy Splatcast. Shiver [Vocals] Octoling She aspires to star in a musical, and has been training in secret. Frye is constantly sending her all sorts of silly lines to say and she responds with “Sure, sounds like a hoot”, but then vents to Big Man about how Frye needs to quit pestering her about it already. Frye [Vocals] Inkling She wants to bundle up all the love out there for the Splatlands into a song, so she rings up the lines of Splatsville residents and even the mayor about it. However, she’s left vexed to hear that the usual response is surprisingly “Singing’s a bit out of the question….” Big Man [Vocals] Manta Ray He was left bedridden for three days straight after reading a post calling him “a one-hit wonder whose arrangements of traditional dances are frivolous.” Pearl has been heaping compliments on him recently, but the dirty looks Shiver and Frye always give him afterwards are frightening, so he honestly wishes she’d cut it out. SashiMori SashiMori is an anomalous band. The band has no vocalist, but DJ Paul spins melodies by cutting and pasting voices sampled from ancient records. The band's fresh and chaotic style of music has recently been played on Anarchy Splatcast and in the Lobby, and has captured the hearts and minds of young people. Paul, who was just a boy when he joined the band, is now 16 years old. He is trusted by many as an artist because of his diligence and dedication to music. Paul [DJ] Octoling He stepped into the real world at a young age, and had been approached by many bad grown-ups, But he never became a delinquent and grew up carefree. He's indifferent about anything unrelated to music, and spends all his spare time practicing his DJing. He's found a new avenue to get voice samples from (excavated records), and has further expanded his genres of music. Ryu Chang [Drums] Koi In addition to being a part of SashiMori, Ryu Chang is also active as an illustrator. They have attracted attention from overseas galleries for their “wash” works, in which they print koi patterns on canvas and purify them in the clear water streams of their hometown. Although they are of a mature age, they are sensitive and like to be praised. Karla [Bass] Scaly foot gastropod The bassist of unknown age. Whenever she rides the elevator alone, she always gets startled by people coming in from other floors. She recently bought a 5-string bass to try out a new sound, but is starting to think that a 4-string bass might have been enough Myron "Ronnie" Swamps [Guitar] Largehead hairtail Has been married for 3 years, and has a 2 year old daughter named “Katana”. Inspired by Karla, Ronnie recently bought a 7-string guitar. They think it was a great purchase.

Dedf1sh A DJ who is a former Octoling soldier. They were captured in the Deepsea Metro, and continued to play music while having lost their sense of self. However, they were then dragged into the virtual world Marina created, where their self was regained. Acht [DJ] Octoling After escaping from the virtual world, they rented an apartment with two rooms, a dining area and a kitchen near Museum d'Alfonsino and are now living there. Their current worries are about how their living space has gotten cramped since soundproofing one of the rooms, and the lack of a nearby supermarket.

There’s a protest going on against AI art over on artstation, so I feel like now is the time for me to make a statement on this issue!

I wholeheartedly support the ongoing protest against AI art. Why? Because my artwork is included in the datasets used to train these image generators without my consent. I get zero compensation for the use of my art, even though these image generators cost money to use, and are a commercial product.

Musicians are not being treated the same way. Stability has a music generator that only uses royalty free music in their dataset. Their words: “Because diffusion models are prone to memorization and overfitting, releasing a model trained on copyrighted data could potentially result in legal issues.” Why is the work of visual artists being treated differently?

Many have compared image generators to human artists seeking out inspiration. Those two are not the same. My art is literally being fed into these generators through the datasets, and spat back out of a program that has no inherent sense of what is respectful to artists. As long as my art is literally integrated into the system used to create the images, it is commercial use of my art without my consent.

Until there is an ethically sourced database that compensates artists for the use of their images, I am against AI art. I also think platforms should do everything they can to prevent scraping of their content for these databases.

Artists, speak out against this predatory practice! Our art should not be exploited without our consent, and we deserve to be compensated when our art is exploited for commercial use.
