who the FUCK is out here doing it like david fucking wymack. bitch has a reputation for the most dysfunctional college team in the country and he wears that sticker with PRIDE. encourages his team by saying hey when we lose we can all get drunk and they win and get drunk anyway. signs some random kid from arizona because a national champion said he was a good idea, let said random kid crash on his couch whilst he proceeded to antagonize everybody he met and then simultaneously pulled the whole team together. fantastic news for wymack. but jokes on you brother that random is actually the son of a serial killer. no fucking reaction. drove to columbia because his national champion called him, didn't break a sweat when his pre-med backliner killed a guy, and at least 3 other people on his team are confirmed murderers. he drives them everywhere and breaks out the line 'fight because you don't know how to die quietly. win because you don't know how to lose'. who the fuck is doing it like david wymack
one of my fave parts abt aftg is how realistic it is. like they're all college kids, 18-20 ish. they're just teenagers. like yeah obviously neil is going to retaliate on live television without thinking about the repercussions. obviously they're going to rely on their most violent friend for protection from the mafia even though he's just a 20 year old bipolar kid with a heavy ass racquet. obviously the trojans are going to have a cardboard cutout of a dog with a stupid name that they treat like a real pet. obviously they're going to take tourist photos when they go pick up the random dude from arizona that's going to change their lives forever. god i love them. god
Jean, Kevin and Neil are all obsessed with Exy, but all three couldn't be any more different.
Kevin looks at Exy as his birth given right. His mother created the sport. He probably held a stick, before he lernt how to walk. Little Kevin and Riko probably watched Exy games instead of shows for kids.
Kevin lived and breathed Exy since he could remember. It is his whole life, there is no way he could imagine living without it. It's not his hobby, it's not his passion, Exy is who he is. Without it he is nothing, he is worthless. He is outraged every time someone does something wrong on the court or doesn't care as much as he does, because it is personal for him. He takes disrespect on Exy as a direct disrespect on him.
He never chose this life, it chose him and he would crumble without it.
Jean plays to survive. He plays, because that is what is expected of him. Playing is his only worth, his only purpose, his only value. Without it he would be treated even worse than he already was and he knows it.
So he plays. He plays so he can have a moment to breathe, a moment for himself. If he can focus on the game, or the practice he can forget about the abuse. He can burry himself in at least one thing he is good at.
Exy doesn't, of course, come without consequences. He makes mistakes and he is punished and the cycle of violence continues. Exy is his curse, if he stoped there would be a chance that he would get a thing he so desperately wishes for.
Death.
But he plays. He plays, because he made a promise to Kevin. he plays, because he is too scared to find out what would happen if he didn't. He plays, because disobedience was beaten (and so much worse) out of him.
He never chose to play, it was forced onto him and even though he wouldn't accept it, a life without Exy would be his salvation.
Neil plays to live. He spent his whole life on crumbs, just surviving, looking over his shoulder and doing everything to see another day. He was in a rush, never stoping at one place for too long, never having someone or something that he chose for himself.
Until Exy, until the Foxes. He chose to play, despite knowing how dangerous it was for him. He played despite every survival instincts telling him to run.
Exy is like breathing to Neil. He loves it with every fiber of his being. He doesn't care if he gets hurt or killed, he just wants to play.
One more game, one more month, one more year, just one more.
Finding Exy again was the best decision he had ever made. It brought him his family, it brought him purpose, it brought him life.
He chose it himself and he would rather die, than let it be ripped away from him.
They are all Exy junkies, but none of them get the other. They think they do, but their obsessions are so fundamentally different, they never could.
I wanna see more andreil "arguments" that's just them being petty assholes to each other. andrew calls neil an idiot on a plane one time and neil tells him "we are 32,000 feet in the air"
How cute would it be if Andrew notices Neil getting all blushy and flustered when Andrew blocks impossible shots and just goes above and beyond as a goalie.
So he actually starts doing it on purpose when Neil's around just to get that reaction (and ego stroke and Neil pampering him after as a reward for being the best goalie ever, he pampers Andrew anyway but Andrew being great at Exy gets some favourable reactions from him and Andrew likes that). Everyone's thrilled cause Andrew is not only trying but actually playing at an insane level (even if it's just to make his boyfriend swoon).
The downside is if Neil has to miss practice, Andrew practically sits in the goal and sulks uncaring.
At one point Andrew actually broke Exy records during a game. He will probably enter the exy hall of fame for how he defended the goal that night.
Why?
Cause a few weeks before the game Kevin showed them highlights from the other team and Neil went on and on about how amazing their goalie was, he meant nothing by it other than one player showing respect for another players game.
And Andrew said nothing but went very still. Then that night humiliated the whole team, but especially that asshat goalie who can't hold a candle to him. Mission accomplished Neil barely remembered the other dudes name too busy fawning and fanboying over the way Andrew played.
Kevin is conflicted cause yes Andrew is trying but as Kevin's best friend can Andrew not turn his moms sport into a werid sex thing with Neil?
Actually obsessed with the trojans (specifically Jeremy) calling out the weird ass language Jean and Kevin use. Like no it’s weird that Kevin casually talks about Jean submitting. It’s weird that a grown ass man insisted on being referred to as ‘the master’ by his team. Like we get used to it with the foxes bc they just talk Like That, but to any normal person it’s jarring as hell.
Like to me it really points out how everything, down to how the ravens talk, was a means of control and manipulation and how it’s so indicative of a the abusive culture of the nest
🌀”I have a bit of an attitude problem” 🌀5/6 Foxhole Court overlays.
Featuring the scene from chapter 13 with the Kathy Ferdinand show and Riko meeting!
Inspired by this quote:
“Ah, forgive my bad manners,” Kathy said to Neil. “I didn’t forget you over there, I just got distracted. Let’s get the pair of you introduced, though I’m not sure either one of you needs an introduction by now. Riko, Neil. Neil, Riko. Kevin’s past and present or should I say past and future?”
[…]
“I will ask you only once to tone down the animosity”
“I can’t,” Neil said. “I have a bit of an attitude problem.”
Only one overlay left to go! Though I must admit I think this is one of my favourites, especially with Andrew in the front row!
I feel like we as a society don't acknowledge often enough that Neil was convinced and waiting on his death for months and no one around him knew until he told Kevin
Neil was 18 at the time
When he ended his protection pact with Andrew so Andrew wouldn't get caught in the crossfire iirc he was freshly 19
We joke about him ignoring the countdown texts but he knew exactly what they meant and he was so tired of running fighting and collateral he saw no other options
Like do you realize how horrifc that is
Everyday I'm reminded of the fact that andrew's arm was under neil's pillow when neil went to reach for a weapon and I lose a bit more of my sanity bc of it
Love that after all the Ravens being institutionalized and dying Jeremy checks in on Kevin with very valid concern and Kevin’s like,,, I’m playing Exy five hours a night, we have three out of the five perfect court here, and Neil and Andrew finally fucking nasty and leaving me alone, things are great 👍
Jeremy and Andrew having the same type (personality wise) while being two of the most different characters in the fandom is so funny.
