Everyone has a superhero. For any girl in the world, her superhero is her father.

He is our hero. He is a doctor. Before this ongoing genocide, he worked at Al-Shifa Hospital. He is a wonderful plastic surgeon, loves his work and is committed to it, to help people and relieve their pain.

When We were forced to be displaced to Al-Shifa Hospital at the beginning of the war, he was still committed to his work. He worked nonstop for 40 days, besides caring for his family, especially in these difficult times!

But unfortunately the occupation stormed and burned the hospital after We were forced to evacuate , raising white flags. We could not carry anything, just our souls. We fled to the south on foot. He carried his two children in his arms, and walked long distances for many kilometers during the afternoon among tanks and heavily armed soldiers, and even among decomposing corpses!

Finally, we reached the UNRWA school at Khan Yunis. He started working in Nasser Hospital, which the occupation also stormed and destroyed! Even when we were displaced, he was working.

All that happened did not stop him from performing his lofty job as a doctor. He has now returned to work in MOH hospitals to carry out operations of debridement and grafting of needy injured people, but he is alone, we are far from him.

He decided to protect us and made a decision to refuge in Egypt to be survived. While he stayed in Rafah before the beginning of the military operation there. Then he was forced to be displaced to Deir Al-Balah.

Every morning he goes to work at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis and returns to his tent in Deir Al- Balah in the evening all week.

Is this what we and he deserve?

We stay away from our hero and torn our family. While at the same time, he is putting himself in danger while saving innocent lives!

For your information, his profession is considered more dangerous than ever before, due to the occupation’s systematic policy of targeting hospitals and medical staff!

All the day, we are worried about him. May Allah save him. Moreover, there is no safe place.

We hope to reunite again, we want each other, we want our home and our dreams!

Kristian Zahrtmann – barwny wizjoner duńskiego malarstwa

31 marca przypada rocznica urodzin jednego z najwybitniejszych duńskich malarzy XIX i początku XX wieku – Pedera Henrika Christiana (Kristiana) Zahrtmanna. Urodzony w 1843 roku w Rønne na duńskiej wyspie Bornholm artysta zapisał się w historii jako niepokorny indywidualista, mentor wielu pokoleń malarzy i twórca pełnych ekspresji, barwnych dzieł, które do dziś pobudzają wyobraźnię i prowokują do refleksji.

Droga do sztuki – edukacja i początki kariery

Kristian Zahrtmann rozpoczął swoją edukacyjną drogę w Rønne Realskole, a następnie kontynuował naukę w Akademii Sorø. Po uzyskaniu matury w 1862 roku postanowił realizować swoje artystyczne ambicje. Początkowo pobierał lekcje na Technisk Institut w Kopenhadze, a w 1864 roku rozpoczął studia na Królewskiej Duńskiej Akademii Sztuk Pięknych. Jego nauczycielami byli tak wybitni artyści jak Adolph Kittendorff, Wilhelm Marstrand i Frederik Vermehren.

Już w czasie studiów wyróżniał się oryginalnością spojrzenia. W 1869 roku zadebiutował obrazem En Konfirmandinde på Bornholm. Choć dzieło było utrzymane w ciemnej tonacji, zachwycało emocjonalną głębią i subtelnością. W tym okresie Zahrtmann zaprzyjaźnił się z malarzami Otto Haslundem i Pietro Krohnem, z którymi dzielił atelier i pasję do eksperymentowania z formą i kolorem.

Leonora Christina — muza i obsesja

Centralnym tematem twórczości Zahrtmanna przez ponad czterdzieści lat była postać Leonory Christiny, córki króla Christiana IV, która spędziła ponad dwie dekady w więzieniu na zamku Blaataarn. Artysta był zafascynowany jej losem i duchową siłą, co zaowocowało serią ponad 20 monumentalnych obrazów inspirowanych autobiografią Leonory — “Jammers Minde”.

Zahrtmann przedstawił ją w różnych momentach życia: od chwil dramatycznych i bolesnych — jak w Leonora Christina i Fængslet (1875), gdzie widzimy ją obserwującą, jak szczury zjadają świecę — po sceny triumfalne, jak Leonora Christina forlader Fængselet (1873). W tych dziełach role modeli często pełniły jego matka oraz jej przyjaciółka, madam Ullebølle. Artysta nie tylko sportretował Leonorę jako bohaterkę, ale także jako symbol siły, godności i wewnętrznej niezłomności.

Kolor, światło i symbol – odejście od mroku

Choć Zahrtmann zaczynał jako malarz operujący mroczną paletą, jego styl ewoluował w kierunku śmiałego i ekspresyjnego użycia koloru. W jego późniejszych dziełach, takich jak Det mystiske Bryllup czy Aspasia ved sin Søns Buste, widać fascynację kontrastem, światłem i symboliką barw. To zwrotne podejście wywoływało nierzadko kontrowersje – krytycy zarzucali mu brak wyczucia piękna.

Jednak Zahrtmann, jako prawdziwy idealista, udowadniał, że piękno nie musi być klasyczne czy konwencjonalne — jego miejsce jest tam, gdzie artysta odważy się najpełniej wyrazić swoje emocje i wizje. To podejście stało się charakterystyczne dla jego twórczości i na trwałe ukształtowało nowoczesne duńskie malarstwo.

Civita d’Antino – włoska przystań duszy

Nieodłącznym elementem tożsamości artystycznej Zahrtmanna stały się jego podróże do Włoch. W latach 1875–78 oraz ponownie w latach 80. i 90. XIX wieku, artysta przebywał wielokrotnie na Półwyspie Apenińskim. Najważniejsze miejsce w jego sercu zajęła jednak mała górska miejscowość Civita d'Antino, gdzie w 1883 roku założył kolonię artystyczną.

W Civita d'Antino Zahrtmann spędzał niemal każde lato, tworząc i prowadząc ożywione dyskusje artystyczne z innymi twórcami. Jego wkład w życie kulturalne tej miejscowości zaowocował tytułem honorowego obywatela i nazwaniem jednej z miejskich ulic jego imieniem. Artysta przeniósł swoją fascynację tym miejscem również do Danii – budując na Frederiksbergu willę Casa d’Antino, wokół której powstało osiedle nazwane Kristian Zahrtmanns Plads.

Zahrtmann – wizjoner i pedagog

Zahrtmann nie ograniczał się jedynie do własnej twórczości – był również cenionym pedagogiem. W 1885 roku objął kierownictwo nad Kunstnernes Studieskole, którą pokierował ku unikalnej estetyce — przeciwstawnej do akademickich kanonów. Zamiast kopiowania mistrzów, proponował odkrywanie własnej drogi, czerpanie z inspiracji włoskich i greckich źródeł oraz intensywnych studiów nad naturą i kolorem.

Szkoła Zahrtmanna wykształciła blisko 200 artystów z krajów nordyckich. Był to ważny element formowania się nowoczesnego malarstwa skandynawskiego. Jako współzałożyciel Den Frie Udstilling – niezależnej grupy artystycznej – domagał się wolności dla sztuki i jej twórców.

Sztuka i seksualność – artysta przełamujący tabu

Życie prywatne Zahrtmanna było przedmiotem wielu spekulacji. Nigdy się nie ożenił, a najbliższymi kobietami w jego życiu były matka oraz postać Leonory Christiny. Niektórzy badacze doszukują się w biografii Zahrtmanna śladów homoseksualizmu, co mogłoby tłumaczyć jego fascynację męskim ciałem.

Obraz Adam i Paradis (1914) stał się powodem skandalu — krytycy uznali, że ukazany przez Zahrtmanna akt męski przekraczał granice przyzwoitości, zwłaszcza w kontekście tzw. „afery moralnościowej” (Store Sædelighedsaffære), która w tamtym czasie wstrząsnęła duńskim środowiskiem artystycznym. Mimo to, dzieło to stanowi świadectwo artystycznej odwagi i niezależności twórcy.

Dziedzictwo i współczesna recepcja

Zahrtmann zmarł 22 czerwca 1917 roku na Frederiksbergu, ale jego dziedzictwo pozostaje żywe. Współcześnie jego dorobek można podziwiać przede wszystkim w Bornholms Kunstmuseum oraz w kolekcjach Den Hirschsprungske Samling i Statens Museum for Kunst. Choć jego obrazy przez pewien czas były niedoceniane, zwłaszcza ze względu na odważne podejście do koloru i kompozycji, dziś wracają do łask jako świadectwo niezależności i autentyczności artystycznej.

Zahrtmann był mistrzem emocji i koloru. Jego życie i twórczość są świadectwem odwagi – w sztuce, w edukacji, w podejmowaniu kontrowersyjnych tematów oraz w niestrudzonym dążeniu do artystycznej prawdy. Dziś, w dniu jego urodzin, warto oddać hołd jednemu z najodważniejszych duńskich wizjonerów pędzla.

We were trapped in the devastating situation in Gaza. We were urgently seeking evacuation to Egypt after enduring more than 200 days of displacement and hardship. I seek to help them urgently and provide them with the minimum requirements. The occupation demolished our beautiful home and took my husband’s job and his car. I was displaced and was able to escape the scourge of war to Egypt, after fleeing to Deir al-Balah in Gaza and tasting the bitterness of displacement and losing a lot. Today, I find myself in a situation I never expected. The conflict in Gaza has left my family in desperate need of help. And here I did not find any money for the family’s expenses after the occupation managed to take away everything we had and we went back a lot. This war took our livelihoods and our factories, and we are struggling to survive."
