Okay, but based on the information Arthur had, Arthur probably imagined Merlin as a scrawny kid frightened of his own shadow, but always willing to put himself alongside Arthur, just so he wouldn’t have to face whatever terror awaited alone. Maybe Arthur didn’t knight Merlin precisely because he wasn’t a warrior, but you can damn well believe he never doubted his courage for a second.
