HUGO IS A GREAT COOK!!!!

So APERENTLY this isn't a "popular" headcannon (which left me feeling hella bamboozled) so @uhjamszone, here's your promised essay (took more than ten minutes but wtv, sry lol)

SoOoOoOoOo, Hugo grew up on the streets where food was scarce and what people like him could get was usually from the dumpster or worse. So Hugo grows up not being picky, eating whatever whenever just to survive, but he still tries to make it decent (he tried to sleep in the back allys of restaurants and stealing from markets in the summer and stuff) so he learns to try different food combinations.

Then, when he gets taken in by Donella, since she is not only a badass crime boss but the Royal Engineer (#queen) he has access to real food now (he'd still have rations like all of Donnie's lackeys but it's still wayyyyyyyy better than before) and since he'd have to travel a lot for missions, he'd get pretty good at actual cooking (and he'd hide a little travel skillet in his room so he could cook) and since he has such a strong stomach from years of such shitty food, his dumpster-fire first tries don't phase him so he can just keep getting better at his craft.

On the trials, Nuru or Varian are usually the ones to make meals (neither of them trust Hugo not to do something stupid and prank their food) but all they can make is shit like ham sandwiches and baked potatoes and eggs on a good day or something all the time (Hugo dosnt love it but he dosnt care, food is food) but then, one day when they're out getting supplies or stm Yong is super hungry and asked Hugo to make something with him and Hugo just casually whips up the best meal they've had the entire journey so far and he's in charge of cooking from now on!

(Quick intermission to say that Olivia is his little chef just lime Remy. Yes she has her own little chefs hat. Yes she runs around grabbing all the spices and ingredients and stuff. Yes she does go up and pull on Hugo's hair and it dosnt do anything but piss her off. Annnnnnnnnnd Yes she does act all bossy and insist her idea is better despite not having a sense of smell or taste because she is a robot <3)

But later on, post-betrayl when he moves in with Varian at the castle and stuff. He gets super overwhelmed, he hates it there, he hates himself for hating it there, he dosnt deserve this, he dosnt belong. He dosnt know how to use all this fancy silverware and weird food that's super small and fancy and one of the things he lived most is turning against him, so he ends up skipping a lot of dinners. Varian gets concerned but he's sees how Hugo will eat his basic sandwiches and stuff, so they end up having a lot of cooking dates and skipping the fancy dinners in favor of Mac & Cheese in the library. And, another hc is that he ends up becoming good friends with Lance as they cook together (I hc he's a good cook too<3) and Lance teaches him how to make those fancy royal foods and Hugo ends up making them WAY better.

So, to wrap things up. He likes cooking, it's one of his love languages, he can pick up on new recapies pretty quickly but prefers to just wing it, despite being a great cook he's a shitty baker so dessert is always Varians job and feel free to add to this.

My own headcanon of Vat7k that you could use as inspiration if you want

While the amber melts away, but cannot stop chanting it, and the water Varian splashes her with has no effect. Varian tries to shake Rapunzel awake, only to have his gloves dissolved on contact. Believing in Rapunzel for not giving up on him, he declares his refusal to give up on her, and this stirs her awake, causing her to collapse onto her knees. The two hug, but Varian never hugs his father. Despite wanting his father back, he knew that he wouldn't wanna see him in this state. Quirin extends his arms to give him a hug, but Varian declines it as he stands there. Till Varian stepped out of his workshop and was never to be seen again for two years.

The aftermath of the Saporian attack, where Rapunzel and her friends are fixing the castle, the queen and king's memories are still gone.

Varian travels through the seven kingdoms to get a fresh life and improve his reputation, with his memories gone.

The woman with blue hair and the enchanted girl (Zhan Tiri) stumble upon Varian

Years had passed since Rapunzel's compassion to redeem Cassandra and the defeat of Zhan Tiri, life in Corona was improved, and so were the queen and king's memories.

Varian got some new friends along the way, one of whom is a thief and a double agent sent by his mother's former friend.

Varian explains that his memories had returned, and he tells them about his misdeeds and what he did in the past.

The 18-year-old decides to get some comfort from Yong, as Yong had already known he earned some comfort.

Quirin got a letter from a "stranger", that stranger being his son, who've written it as an apology for his absence and the misdeeds he's done when he was encased in the amber. Quirin had never been happy to finally get a letter from his son, but he forgives him anyway since his apology seemed genuine enough to earn a forgiviness.

Hugo stored an engagement ring that he was gonna use as a proposal to Varian. His boyfriend is preparing for his day to get married and be with him, have a wedding and be his husband.

Varian makes up for his mistakes by going to Corona, helping people out and showing them that he isn't the vengeful scientist traitor they expected him to be. Even trying to get the earnestness of approval from the king and queen, by apologising and being honest about what he's been doing and explaining his bad misdeeds as well as empathising with his points and apologising for erasing the memories. Blaming himself for the blizzard and not Rapunzel, and even wanting a punishment when the king shakes his head and says he's been forgiven already, since he looked genuine and actually isn't the same guy as in prior years.

Returning to Old Corona, for a stressful day of trying his best to be a better person and continuing with what he left off and serving his punishment by writing an apology letter to the kingdom and to its villagers. His father was farming till he saw his son, the same child whom he cared for. His eyes shed tears, his baby now grown up, and Varian approached him and hugged him.

Varian had reunited with Rapunzel, Eugene, Lance, Kiera and Catalina. Even a letter sent by Cassandra. Varian got a hug from Rapunzel till which turned into a group hug from her friends.

Hugo wanted and always looked forward to what Corona was, and it was his first time going to see it. Varian gives him a tour through Corona and its citizens, even Eugene and Rapunzel accompanied them, but much like Eugene, no one liked Hugo, and the blonde thief knew why.

After 14 days of Varian's 2 weeks in Corona and Old Corona and doing some massive improvements, he bid his farewell to Rapunzel and her friends, even his father and many of the citizens and Rapunzel's parents.

Romantic.

Some character design/ costume concept art for a fan project me and @banannerbread dreamed up. It was a little spinoff comic about Varian continuing his adventures in alchemy through the seven kingdoms in order to learn the seven alchemical laws and attain forbidden knowledges.  New characters we wanted to play with were Varian’s mom, who design-wise was a in flux, since we only had one reference image to go off of…but we really wanted to match her aesthetic to Varian/ that of a field researcher. We always imagined her as being a lot like Varian! Tried to develop some motifs between the other characters (L-R: Hugo, Donella, and Donella’s muscle-man) to make them look like the evil pack they were. Hugo was a sneaky artificer who conned the wealthy and worked for Donella: Varian’s mother’s former research partner. We also had Yong and Princess Nuru- who were some new friends that Varian would meet on his journey! And of course, Prometheus, a farm donkey Quirin gifted to Varian before he left Corona. (Not quite a Maximus…but, hey!)

Varian headcannons

He/they baddie

Has lots of burn scars from experiments

Has scars on his wrists from handcuffs. For this reason he never takes off his gloves unless he's alone or with someone he trusts.

Trust issues. This kid was ignored by pretty much everyone when he needed them most, it's gotta have an effect on his ability to have healthy relationships (they say, almost like they're not speaking from experience)

Angry and Catalina were the first friends he had that were vaguely around his age. The vat7k gang (- yong) were the first friends he had actually within a year of his age (I hc angry as 12 and catalina as 14 in season 3. the vat7k gangs ages are again my personal hcs: Nuru as 17, Hugo as 19 and Yong as 15).

Used to love the snow and rain and winter because it meant hot cocoa and time with his dad. The blizzard ruined a lot of things for him, including the snow.

Sensory issues galore (no I'm not projecting wdym)

Sh scars BC boy hates himself for everything he's done and blames himself for everything that went wrong

Whipping scars from prison. Again based off a HC of mine where they put him in maximum security and treated him like a regular major prisoner (including fun perks like interrogation, torture, starvation and whipping) until his old cellmate attacked him pretty badly so they threw him into the cell with Andrew. (Which was no better. Seriously which fricking ass had the oh so intelligent brainwave to put him in with Andrew. That's why I created this HC to at least try to give it a rational explanation)

Frostbite scars. You're telling me that a kid in a winter coat travelling the carriage worthy distance from old Corona to the castle through a blizzard literally described as a divine death trap TWICE made it out unscathed? No way!

Looks perpetually like a 12 yer old, much to his annoyance and to the amusement of Eugene.

Autism and ADHD. Look at him. Just look. Especially at the beginning of that episode where he gets kidnapped.

Also: PTSD, anxiety, depression, and BPD. Yes I'm projecting but also. Varians anxiety is pretty much canon ATP. You can see it in most of his episodes pre and post villain arc. PTSD because even in be very afraid, which happens around 2 years after his dad was trapped in amber, he is still very affected by it. Depression and low self esteem, he's miserable about everything that's happened and that's kind of ruined his life and he hates himself for it. Little canon evidence but feels right. BPD- much of Varians character, especially early on, is built around seeking affirmation. When he is repeatedly denied it, his emotions overcome him and he can't hold it anymore and breaks down. Also I see him as very emotional and logical at the same time so he has mood swings out of his control and is horrified at himself because he knows they aren't rational but he can't control them. Totally not projecting. Again not much canon evidence but great for angst and projecting purposes.

Since I'm projecting here I might as well project my artstyle on him. Sketchy, done with a pen or pencil and one random colour on the back of pretty much anything. Actually pays attention to lighting and tone on the rare occasion it is required. Very good at making random scribbles look like a perfect replica of something he's seen before. Good for scientific drawing and sketches. Terrible for fully finished works. Unlike me he is very good at art and makes my weird artstyle look good.

POTS. No real reason, just I can make characters physically disabled in headcannons and I want to use that power. Also varigo fluff potential.

Chronic loneliness from having no one to talk to (I'm projecting too fcking much and I know it)

Insomniac and won't admit it. Has passed out plentiful times in his lab and the most random places ever from pure exhaustion. This got worse during the villain arc because Quirin wasn't there to drag his sleepy ass to bed. Hugo worries.a (no it isn't an ungodly hour in the morning when I'm typing this wdym).

Reconnects with Cass post canon.

Has nightmares about his dad, sots, prison or Andrew regularly and needs either his dad, Eugene and later Hugo to stay with him after.

Very picky eater who has a bunch of allergies and often forgets to eat (y am I projecting sm here chat).

Very good at lying and manipulating and scheming, as seen in his villain arc, but his emotions and guilt and empathy get in the way most of the time. As he should tell Hugo in my hcs, "just because I can doesn't mean I enjoy doing it". (HC: Hugo knows Varian has some sort of criminal past but he doesn't know that he was his gay awakening, the alchemist).

Makes annoying household inventions.

YAYYY VARIAN MY BELOVED

Used to love when it snowed because it meant he got to go sledding with his dad, but then he developed an intense fear/hatred of snow because of the events during queen for a day

First reaction was to not trust Nuru because of how much she reminds him of Rapunzel. Even though the two of them had mostly mended things at that point, there was still a part of him deep down that blamed Raps and expected Nuru to betray the rest of the team for her kingdom

Had to put up a sign declaring his lab an “anti-Eugene” zone due to how often Eugene just barges in without warning. When it didn’t work, Varian changed it to say “Anti-Horace” just to piss him off

Keira and Catalina were his first friends that were actually around his age

Calls Hugo “pretty boy” as an insult (backfires cuz Hugo thinks they’re flirting)

Thrives in warm/hot weather but the moment the temperature drops, Varian refuses to go outside and wears thick clothing until it’s spring/summer again

He’s a snob about produce due to his dad being a farmer, and it’s a nightmare to go food shopping with him. What’s supposed to take an hour at most turns into an entire afternoon wasted at the market because the tomatoes are too soft or the apples aren’t the right color or the celery doesn’t snap right. Hugo, who grew up eating whatever he could get his hands on, has to physically restrain himself from strangling Varian

He had freckles everywhere

Exchanges letters with Rapunzel throughout his journey as a way of mending their relationship further (they both still feel super guilty about everything that happened and blame themselves) so no matter how far Varian travels, he’ll always have someone from home to guide him

Doodles Team Radical in the margins of his journal when he’s bored (caught himself making a very detailed sketch of Hugo’s face and was shamed of himself for days)

Inconsistent sleep schedule due to nightmares, which often leads to him sitting outside by thr campfire late at night. Because of this, he and Hugo are alone together a lot of the time because Hugo is usually the last of the team to go to bed

Insane sweet tooth, genuinely can’t get through the day without consuming something sweet

First to see Hugo with his hair down and was a flustered mess about it for hours after

Hugo was the first one he told about his past as the Alchemist

Has the Saporian emblem on his body somewhere (either tattooed or branded idk) because everyone in that group has it as a way to pledge their loyalty

Slight country accent that surfaces only when he’s really fired up (you can pry this hc from my cold dead hands cuz I think it’s so funny that he becomes a cowboy when he’s angry)

Realized he was bisexual at some point during the journey. I feel like he wouldn’t care about romance after becoming royal engineer and getting over his crush on Cassandra, so it wouldn’t really occur to him that he likes both guys and girls until he’s on the road with too much time to think

Tries to emulate his dad when taking charge of the group cuz even away from home, he looks up to his dad

Wrist scars from the handcuffs during his prison era, whether they’re prominent or barely visible

Left-handed. Why? I dunno, it just makes sense to me

Hot chocolate snob. He’ll drink almost all kinds of hot chocolate, but he has a preference for the high quality stuff they keep in the castle and can tell the difference between different kinds (judges people who make it with water instead of milk)

When he’s in a particularly sour mood, he’ll shut off all the hot water in Corona just to be petty (usually does it when Frederick pisses him off)

Yong called him his brother once and he didn’t stop crying for an hour

Makes fun of Hugo for not knowing how to swim until Varian has to save him from drowning in the water trial

Gets offended when people call Ruddiger fat or say he’s overweight (he’s basically a bowling ball that waddles around the castle but Varian isn’t ready for that conversation yet)

Refuses to let people take care of him when he’s sick because they “have better things to do”

Hugo is the only one he will voluntarily share a lab space with. Anyone else and he’d sooner throw himself out a window

Chapter 2: "Ernest"

This spring in London it was unusually bright, as if it was not a foggy Albion at all. Ernest was walking along Soho, enjoying the spring sun. He inhaled fresh, as if alive, air, waving the floors of his beige cloak, admiring the blooming trees. The guy's blonde top was barely hidden from the sun by a light brown hat. Blue eyes joyfully shone in anticipation of the long-awaited purchase. Seeing the right shop, Ernest turned around and went into the bookstore "Aziraphale and k.o." The smell of antiques, books and cocoa immediately hit my nose. The blond guy smiled, approaching the girl in a beige formal-style suit.

Muriel turned around when she heard the subtle ringing of the doorbell. She smiled friendly at the next visitor.

"Good afternoon, welcome to the bookshop "Aziraphale and K.o.". I'm Muriel, can I help you with something?" - the girl's voice was pleasant and melodic, despite the obvious memorized phrase.

"Hello, I'm Ernest. We agreed on the phone about a copy of Kevin Kelly's "The Home Planet." - the guy smiled politely.

-"Oh yes, of course! Mr. Rutten, I remember. I'm a little busy sorting books right now, but I'm sure my assistant Crowley will be happy to provide you with this book."

Drunk Crowley picked up the phone with difficulty, taking it to his ear. The man's voice was hoarse and smoky-rough.

"What do you need!?"

On the other side of the tube there was a modest and gentle female voice:

"Mr. Crowley? This is Muriel. I would like to ask you for help. Today I need to sort out books and I won't be able to receive visitors. Could you do it for me, please?"

Crowley sighed heavily. He didn't want to return to a place that left so many painful wounds on his heart, but he couldn't refuse his ward. The man muttered into the phone something like: "wait in an hour" and dropped the call.

Quickly sobering up, Crowley brought himself into relative order: gathered his dull red hair in a careless bun, went to the shower, put on a clean suit and left the apartment. Going out into the yard, he saw his car. Bentley looked no better than her owner. The red one on the sides of the car came off a little, one of the tires was punctured by some bully. The red-haired demon sighed heavily, but at the snap of Bentley's fingers she became like a newcomer.

Romantic Lucifer x Maladaptive Daydreamer, Sinner Reader

Not me self-projecting or anything 👀. Plus I love the whole "dreamer and broken dreamer" dynamic I can make with this, even if it isn't the same type of dreams. This is based on my own experiences, but I'm trying to make it more generalized lol.

TW: Maladaptive daydreaming, mentions of depression and anxiety, escapism and dissociation, poor self-care from forgetting, fear of disappointment and disappointing others

• You probably met him at the Hazbin Hotel, to be honest. Normally, he wouldn't even look at a sinner. You're also not outwardly that different, either. The only thing that he might notice is that your eyes always look a bit distant, but he'd probably not question it. Why have a conversation with someone who is not present and in the moment?

• Charlie would have to introduce you, too. As said before, he wouldn't see the reason to talk to someone who doesn't seem to be paying attention. If Charlie wants him to talk to you, though, he'd do so. He wants a closer relationship with his daughter, and if simply introducing himself to you makes her happy, he would! Though, he is shocked to hear you are, according to her, an interesting person to talk to.

• So, he follows her over to you, all while she's saying "(Y/N), this is my dad, Lucifer! Dad, this is (Y/N), a guest at the hotel! They're a bit spacey, but they're trying their best... They're pretty unique, too! I'm sure you both will get along!"

• Once he gets a closer look at you... yes... you're very unique, to say the least. You look a little disheveled, but at the same time, like you're trying to look presentable. The look in your eyes also seems to flicker between paying attention and drifting off into your own head as he talks. When you respond, though, it sounds like you're at least retaining the basic information of the conversation.

• It takes a long time for him to actually become interested in spending time with you. Sure, you're an odd sinner, but still a sinner, and sinners are the worst in his opinion. However, he does visit the hotel every now and again to check in on Charlie in person. He's realized that calling her is not helping them get closer, even if he's still a bit confused as to why, so he's been visiting in person. Over time, he begins to notice odd things you do...

• You usually sit in the lobby, with a few other sinners, but don't talk to them often. Instead, you just sit there, making odd facial expressions every now and then. At first, he just assumed it was you reacting to the conversations the others were having, until he realized many of your expressions don't fit the topics. They'd be talking about exterminations, while you look calm, or about a pleasant event, with you looking sad or angry. Then, they'd be talking about fashion, and you'd look mortified. This sort of behavior interests Lucifer... You aren't like any other sinner he's seen. He, honestly, probably just assumes you're hallucinating or something. He'd rather ask Charlie, though.

• Unfortunately, she doesn't give away much about you. Something along the lines of "not wanting to talk to much about someone's personal problems without their consent", or whatever. He understands, but come on! He's her dad! A little gossip would be better than what he sees as a long silence between them. She does assure him, though, that you are not hallucinating. That, and she pushes him to interact with you, saying that his perception on sinners might change if he talks to some of the ones at the hotel.

• It's something that frustrates him... however, he pushes himself to do so. Anything for Charlie. Though, to him, it feels less like he wants his views to change and more like she's trying to to avoid talking to him. She never calls, after all... He still tries talking to you, though, and every time you seem extremely distant. That same flickering attention and that same disheveled look. Though, you definitely look worse than when Charlie called him to visit the first time, probably because you were caught on a regular day.

• You do make a few interesting statements, though. Mentions of days flying by fast, barely remembering parts of your life, a journal Charlie recommended you begin writing... Now you're getting interesting! Like a little mystery. He wants to figure you out.

• He'll try prying to get you to speak about yourself. What was your life as a human like? What were your sins, or biggest sin? Why do you look so... distant, all the time? Give him an answer! He'll take what he can get, and won't get upset.

• Daydreaming. That's the answer you give for looking distant. You don't really explain your answer, as if it should speak for itself. Though, you do mention that you're aware it's a "big problem", at this point. Dreaming... ugh... He doesn't even like the word, at this point, even if your type of dreaming isn't the same as his.

• You don't seem to want to tell him what you daydream about, outside of saying it's the types of things you can write a book about, instead of a simple self-fulfilling fantasy. You've got him hooked, now. This mystery has shifted gears. No longer is he as interested in you in general. Instead, your dreams are what he must know about. Which, granted, they probably will tell him a lot about you if they're so personal that you won't tell him.

• Whenever he spots you writing, he tries to sneakily look over your shoulder to read it. Usually, though, you spot him walking over before he can even try and close your journal. You do the same when anybody else walks by... except for Charlie. It honestly doesn't surprise him, since most everybody in the hotel seems to trust her, to some extent. He's just so frustrated. He wants to know more, but you won't say a thing, and Charlie won't, either!

• So, he decides to bite the bullet, and ask Charlie for help. Not the answers to his brewing questions, but instead about things you like. Interests the two of you might share with one another. Surprisingly, he learns that you and him share a lot more in common than he'd have expected a sinner to...

•He decides to try to talk to you about music, instead. What types of music do you like? Can you play an instrument? Do you have a favorite song, perhaps? The entire conversation is fascinating. Do you want him to play you a song, sometime? He'll be sure to bring an instrument the next time he visits.

• Once you do, eventually, listen to his music, he's absolutely entrance by the way you react to it. He's never really bothered to take notice of how you react listening to music before, assuming it's just like anyone else. He should've known that wasn't the case. Instead of a smile, or an attentive gaze, you're completely zoned out. Your expression is dull, which he'd normally be offended by, but he's quick to put it all together, now. That distant look isn't necessarily boredom or a disliking of the music... It's a dreamy look. You're daydreaming to his music. It only becomes more obvious once he changes the tones and your expression changes a bit, as if your daydream is changing alongside it. He's seen people dance, he's seen people sing, he's seen many types of reactions to music. However, to sit there and daydream is one he hasn't seen... At least, not so obviously and intensely.

• He doesn't want to embarrass you, so once he finishes playing his song, he won't mention it to you. He'll simply ask if you liked the song or not, then ask why. He'll slightly giggle, though, if you call it something along the lines of "inspiring" or "thought-provoking". A tiny little hint that he's slowly figuring out what is happening.

• Alongside your reactions to music, he does notice other things. Such as how sometimes, when he walks by your room in the hotel, he can hear the sounds of constant footsteps from behind the closed door. Sometimes he even hears tiny whispers, too, which sounds like your voice. Again, he doesn't say a word. If you're so secretive about such things, he won't pry... Which he, himself, is finding a tiny bit odd. He usually doesn't hold a sinner's privacy to such high regard, under the idea that he's King and needs to know what is happening... That, and his own anxieties making him feel the need to know as much as possible... But, for you, he's becoming a bit more aware of how odd that behavior can be when brought to a certain degree.

• So, he waits for you to tell him about it, yourself. And once you do, mentioning your little prancing, pacing, and your slight habit to act out your daydreams, he's ecstatic! For one, he's earned your trust enough for you to tell him such a thing. The other reason is that he has an idea! Why don't you try dressing up as the characters? It'd be an interesting way to engage in it. He's a musical man, he's probably heard of musicals, if not been in one! He could try getting you an outfit. If you don't want to, though, he's fine with it. It might be strange, after all...

• It takes a while, but soon, you both become close friends. Close enough that he's probably talked to you about feeling a bit lost and depressed, feeling very anxious for Charlie's well-being... In which case, he's probably a bit shocked to hear you relay the fact that, similarly, you are lost. Be it you feel depressed and or anxious, as well, or perhaps it's because you can't stop daydreaming. Either way, you let him know you feel similar, and he's shocked. He's always kind of assumed you daydreaming would help you escape from those types of feelings, not contribute to or possibly cause them.

• He listens more to your concerns and worries... and he relates more than he'd like to admit, in certain situations. Dissociation? You both kind of do it, in your own ways. Your daydreaming, you mentioned, might be that. You've never gotten checked, though, because therapists in Hell aren't the best. He knows all too well that he dissociates, from time to time, because Lilith pointed it out to him shortly before she left to do... whatever she's doing. You both forget to take care of yourselves, in your own ways. You daydreaming for so long, causing time to fly, and eventually forgetting whatever you forget... And him working on his rubber ducks to cope, focusing too much, and forgetting to do whatever it is he needed to do.

• He does get worried for you, and you probably get worried for him, as well. However, while he's not so sure about you, he's taking his worries for you and his daughter to try to better himself... Though, with you and him sharing things in common, he sees you as being a big reason to specifically better his mental health while Charlie is his reason to try to be a better father. How can he provide any sort of help to you when he's suffering, himself? Any advice would either, in his opinion, be bad, or be good but seem bad from the hypocrisy of him not following his own advice. So, he's got to help himself, yeah? He can do it all on his own, too! Watch him! He's not going to burden anybody else!

• Yeah, no. He's failed. Now, he feels worse. Luckily, though, you're there for him to go to! He would go to Charlie... But, he doesn't want to burden her with it. Quite frankly, he doesn't want to talk to you, either, but you can at least relate to him a bit. That, and he knows that keeping it all in is a part of what's made him feel horrible. So, again, you have your talks about life together... You mention your problems and he mentions his. You give him advice. Pretty good advice, actually. He gives you small tips on a few things to make life easier. Then, as always, the conversation shifts to happier topics. What made you happy, recently? Did you have any nice food today? Stuff like that.

• Though, one day, you seem to be thinking about something. You look from him, to nothing, then back to him almost on a loop. He simply assumes it's one of your daydreams, and instead speaks about whatever comes to his mind, being patient with you. From how his relationship with his daughter and her girlfriend is going along, how his rubber duck creation is going, to what he thinks of a few of the other guests at the hotel. However, he is a bit shocked when you begin speaking, very suddenly.

• You start talking about a seemingly random daydream you had, recently. Beautiful music, nice outfits, fun dances... You describe a scene of you dancing with someone on a glorious night. However, you don't say who it is you're dancing with. You just describe a beautiful scenario, which is about you dancing with someone. When he asks who it is, after you finish talking, you kind of just stare at him awkwardly.

• It takes him a few moments, then once it hits him, he begins to laugh hysterically in disbelief. No. You couldn't possibly be implying it was him! Once you outright say it, and add that you love him as more than a friend, though, he's both ecstatic and terrified. He feels the same way, yes, but he knows he has his own set of problems he'd be adding into your life if he got with you... And then you start talking about how you are worried you'd make him feel bad, as you know that your daydreams can hype up future events, like dates and such, to an unachievable expectation... then everything is disappointing, despite it being perfectly fine.

• He, however, wants to change that... or, at least your outlook on it. He will happily hold out his hand and admit that he feels the same. He feels the same love for you, the same worries for the future, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth trying. Just because something wasn't to your expectations, doesn't make it bad, yeah? Once you realize that you still had fun, you'll learn to still enjoy your life, even if it'll never live up to your daydreams.

• That's how you two began dating. You're both used to helping each other through rough times, and comforting each other, so there wasn't really a big adjustment period of having to learn to do so. Instead, the first few months were spent on sweet dates, as well as helping you with your daydreams causing expectations that can't be met. As each date goes by, he asks if you had fun, even if it wasn't all you dreamed up to be. As you realize how often you say "yes", you begin to feel much more confident that everything will be fine and doesn't need to be perfect.

• He's gotten into a little habit of planning a secret date or surprise every once in a while. That way, you don't have the chance to build up such high expectations of what it'd be like. You'll come home to see that he's made the most delicious looking dinner buffet, and spread it out over his dining table. Or, you'll come home, and he'll say that he wants to take you out to go dancing somewhere. Small little surprises.

• He's going to make a rubber duckling based on you. Or two. Or three... Or twelve dozen. He can think of so many designs based on your lovely stories. He knows that he shouldn't feed into the habit, and he's actively doing his best not to, but he wants to show you that you can create beautiful artwork with your daydreams. Music, paintings, books, plays... If you find that you can't daydream less, you can try to at least transform them into a real, tangible thing that others can see or hear. His duckies are just an example of that.

• He sometimes wishes he could create something that catches your attention more than your daydreams, but he can also understand that you may not have complete control of it. So, instead, he'll try to gently get your attention if he needs you, just wants your attention, or wants to remind you of something you need to do. Be it a little tap on your shoulder, him calling your name, or walking into your field of view and doing something silly.

• He's sure to check in on you daily, asking if you've been making sure to take care of yourself. Did you eat today? Did you take a shower? Did you drink a glass of water? You gotta stay hydrated! In return, whenever you can, you do the same for him. You both take care of each other as best you can.

• If you're one of those daydreamers who has trouble falling asleep because your brain won't turn off, he'll do whatever he can to at least help you relax. He'll cuddle you, try humming a little soft tune, or get you something to drink to help you relax a little.

• Sometimes, although he'd never admit it, he's a little jealous of your daydreaming. Yes, he's aware the grass is always greener on the other side, and that's why he wouldn't say it. He knows you'll chew him out and reminding him of the issues it's caused you. He can see them, so you don't really have to remind him. He's just... missed the feeling of having such an imaginative mind. Sure, he still has had one. Ever since he was dropped into Hell, it's been a bit harder to do so... then, once Lilith left, it has gotten worse. He's been a bit too depressed to dream...

• Though, he knows that you can dream enough for the both of you, and that you'll happily share ones you think will cheer him up. He loves you for how much you've reminded him of the importance of dreaming... Just, in moderation. He'll be there to ground you, whenever you need it.
