it’s the end of september when jeno first introduces himself to you.

your best friend had been going on and on and on these last couple of weeks about this guy she had met in her literature class. you’d never met him before, but you knew that his name was jeno, that he was a second year, and that he had three cats he seemingly never stopped talking about. yoojung finally managed to ask him out on a study date, but in the end had asked you to tag along for moral support. 

and like the good friend you were, you agreed. 

「you have (1) new message」

yoojung: i’m in study room 508!! see you soon bby

a yawn escapes from you as you push open the doors to the main library. the air is stagnant and thick with stress, as it is during every midterm exam season. there’s just something about the smell of desperation and canned-coffee that makes you want to give up already, but nevertheless you disregard the temptation of going back home and trail behind another student into the elevator.

“what floor?” he asks from beside you.

“five please.” you’re looking down at your phone, but you can see from the peripherals of your vision that he’s staring at you. only a handful of seconds tick by before he approaches you. 

“you’re in professor moon’s statistics 8am tuesday-thursday class, right?”

you look up from your phone, your eyes meeting his. “yeah, why?”

he smiles at you, and all of a sudden you’re aware of just how crusty you must look without makeup on. “i’m jeno. i sit next to you in class.”

his introduction catches you off guard, but you quickly recover and return the smile. “hey, i’m y/n.”

“are you ready for tomorrow’s exam?” he asks.

you shake your head with a sigh. “not at all. are you?”

he chuckles. “nope!”

the doors of the elevator door open, and you two continue to talk even as you enter the study room.

“you two came together?” yoojung asks, unable to hide the disappointment in her tone. you shake your head as you set your stuff down in the space beside her. 

“we just ran into each other on the elevator,” you say, hoping to assuage whatever negativity she was feeling. 

“turns out we’re in the same stat class,” jeno adds, taking a seat in front of you. 

the only reason why you were there was to study for your exam, but before you knew it, it was already 9:30pm and you had done nothing but crack jokes with your classmate. you ultimately decided to give up for the night and leave early to go home. “i’ll just study when i get back” was your excuse, but in reality, you’d felt bad for yoojung, who had grown noticeably more upset the longer you talked to jeno.

you exhale a long sigh as you step out into the parking deck, scanning the now empty lot for your car. you reach into your bag, your phone vibrating against your hand as you feel around for your keys. you pull both items out, but your keys nearly slip through your fingers as you stare at your phone screen.

「you have (2) new messages」

010-xxx-xxxx: hey y/n, this is jeno! 

010-xxx-xxxx: i know we just met, but do you want to get dinner or something with me after our exam tomorrow night?

🐋 Let’s bust some myths first: contrary to popular belief, Childe has no experience at relationships or intimacy at all. Non. Cero. The Venn diagram of romantic/intimate stuff and things Childe has done is a void. But it’s not that he doesn’t want to, it’s just that he hasn’t had the time to experience any of these things because he is a busy man: between fighting, training and being a Harbinger, there is not a minute left for him to indulge in other things. 

🐋 The problem with this is that Tartaglia is a people’s person. He WANTS to be able to have someone that he can do these things with. At the end of the day, when he comes home tired after a mission, all he wants is someone to be waiting for him with cuddles, hugs, kisses, reassurance, caresses, or just a simple “how did your day go?” Because of this, he has a lot of pent-up love that he has not been able to give. 

🐋 In that note, he is also incredibly touch-starved: not only does he want someone to give that love to, but Childe also craves to receive it. When was the last time he was touched by someone in a context that was not a fight? He loves fighting, obviously: he has trained for a big part of his life to be able to defeat everything and everyone. But he is also just a human, and there are limits to how long a person can go without a loving touch.
