my initial reaction was that obviously Bucky has told Sam he loves him before; he drops it so easily, and Sam just gives that little nod, like Bucky is saying something he already knows well. but thinking over it... Bucky does strike me as being unsocialized and/or insane enough that maybe he WOULD think that "watching as your friend and protegee undergoes lifesaving surgery for an injury you blame yourself for" is an appropriate occasion to tell your man you love him for the first time. could go either way, really.

Never understood the appeal of "didn't know they were dating" but fwiw I think sam is the one who would be in denial about how much this thing between them means to bucky

Like, sam is a bit "we're friends. People sleep with their friends sometimes that's cool. We don't even always get on that well. It's fine. It's cool"

And bucky is "I love sam so much but I'll just drag him down. He is literally the sun but I can't look away" and throw in a bit of 1930s/40s repression.

That's a recipe for a 10 year situationship right there

The time right after FATWS, in which Bucky plausibly lives in Delacroix and joins Sam on his missions and helps Sarah with the business and plays fun uncle to Cass and AJ and makes old man friends with Carlos and everyone is happy and the SamBucky possibilities are endless, is my 2012 Avengers Tower with Clint in the vents

(Alfred cried more than Francis did, he's in a soap opera/sappy romance movies obsession phase, that he only falls out of when he's pushing 15- Cried that 'it was like real life movie moment'- He does in this au grow up to be a film director and cinematographer, so there IS a red lining!)

off topic but i really adore the history left behind by the nations. of them in photographs; their letters to each other over the centuries, paintings, polaroids, etc. it’s so distinctly and weirdly intimate and deep to me, like saying i’m here, and i have lived like any other being. just because the world found out about them in a later time didn’t mean they didn’t exist nor live a life before that. that despite being absolutely immortal and divine, they are still captured in photographs and there are ink stains on the letters they wrote that say, this is a life lived. they aren’t just mindless entities that equate to the representation of a society, they have genuine personal lives that are in the very proof of pages and papers.

thinking about careers and now I'm sad...I'm imagining nations wanting to have careers of their own, to be doctors, engineers, CEOs, artists...but they have to do their nation job :( of course they love their people, but being born into such a responsibility would really suck (to me anyway)

I get that, I do headcanon though that some nations just said:

"Fuck you, I'm going to become a construction worker for a lifetime, see you never because you'll probably be dead by the time I get back."

And did just that. I also headcanon that the majority have several degrees and trained skillsets, I see Arthur being a very well trained Nurse/Medic and having gotten several bachelor degrees in the humanity (?) field out of curiosity (Philosophy, History (There was a time BEFORE him afterall, AND there's no way he can have known every single thing happening in history throughout his life at once and I see him being curious about what he's missed), etc.)

Alfred's got so many engineering and science degrees and I see Matthew being super invested in marine biology and GEOLOGY particularly, so while they have their nation job, I think many chose to say 'up yours' and went and lived a career anyway, maybe helping a bit with nation work on the side, but not a full-time thing
