Abbie Mills being killed on Sleepy Hollow just goes to show me the writers, producers, and showrunners of Sleepy Hollow were never truly invested or interested in her character. They never expected this amazing black female character, played by a very talented black woman, would resonate with so many people. They never expected Abbie to have the fanbase she had, or to become as popular as she is.
It says to me all the praise they got in season one for the shows diversity was really all talk. That once Abbie got too popular, they pushed Katrina out to the forefront hoping desperately fans and viewers would latch on to her like they did Abbie. Because they didn’t see Abbie as special, unique, and important.
I stopped watching the show mid-way through s2, but Abbie was always the reason I wanted to watch. She was the heart of the show in the early seasons. She was the cornerstone of what made the show work.
I’m not sure if Nicole wanted to leave the show (given that the showrunners seemed clueless as what to do with the character and utterly unwilling to pursue the obvious Ichabbie romance), or if this was a showrunners only decision. Either way, it’s a sad loss for television. I only hope Nicole can find better work and better roles where she can really shine as an actress. She deserved so much better than what she was given on Sleepy Hollow. And fans deserved better from the showrunners. Abbie Mills deserved better.
So many media creators don’t realize they have incredible power.
They think it’s a game. An entertainment. A trifle.
They don’t see that they make the world. They give people hope, despair, a reason to get through one more week. They give us a chance to see ourselves – emotionally or physically – on screen.
They think their vision matters more than the people who watch. Who pay them their salaries. Who care until it hurts.
I think my finale takeaway to the Sleepy Hollow writers is this: You mattered to people.
Maybe you thought your show was stupid. But God, it mattered.
And you hurt people tonight. And with your casual cruelties to Nicole over the last two seasons.
Whether it’s The 100 or The Walking Dead or Sleepy Hollow, what we see on our screen matters so much.
Maybe it’s just a job to you. But you are causing true harm.

Leandra: Carver, don’t you have something to say to your sister? Carver: I’m sorry I flicked flour in your face. Leandra: Marian? Hawke: I’m sorry you’re my brother.
I hope you're right
So after tonight’s episode, and having thought through my initial feelings on it, I feel like this Danabbie thing is a parallel to the Zoe thing. She pointed out to Crane he was ready for more just not with her and I believe Daniel is going to come to the same conclusion. Bear with me, I have evidence to support my speculation.
In the preview pics we got for the next episode, there are a couple of Danabbie and one of Ichabbie that make me think that things are not going to be roses and sunshine for Abbie and Danny:
Pic number one:
This is not a happy face. They are having a conversation Abbie wasn’t expecting or wasn’t ready for. I’m thinking he really saw how her and Crane are together and he got it, even as she remains in denial.
Pic number two:
Looks like Danny is pointing out, like Zoe that he is not the one she really wants, which would also show immense character development for him. He’s been a bit self centered this whole season but him helping her realize her happiness lies elsewhere (hint hint Crane). Abbie also appears to be reluctantly accepting his conclusion. Still maybe not ready to turn to Crane but maybe more open to the idea than before.
Pic number three:
And lastly, but certainly not least, Crane seeming to sense things have not gone the way his fellow witness may have hoped. Abbie appears upset and resigned while he looks concerned.
I’m still not ready to accept, especially with all of the ship baiting we have been getting in 3b, that setting the stage for Ichabbie is not the endgame. Whether we will actually get it this season or, if there is a fourth season, I still have hope Ichabbie could still be endgame.
“I thought all was lost.”
Ichabbie 3.15
They are just too adorable.
Abbie Mills deserves better
