but abbie’s different, because she was the hero of the story and the story ends when the hero dies.

and for a show to kill its hero and go on without her, what they’re really telling people is she was never really the hero. it literally doesn’t matter why they did it. it just does. not. matter. because they’ve told us now that in the story they’re telling, abbie was so unimportant that they could do without her.

Denial-Acceptance

So here’s the thing. Right now everyone’s fix-it fics, though they are lovely and beautifully written and heartfelt, are making me cry, because I do NOT accept any ending for Abbie (or Sleepy Hollow in general) that does not involve her LIVING and PREVAILING and getting to live a long and satisfying life. Damn it, Abbie should at least have what Buffy had at the end of Season 7–which for all the flaws of the last few seasons ended with its heroine smiling into a wide-open future.

Abbie lives. I refuse to believe anything else. Season 3 didn’t happen because 20-20 hindsight I can see it was nothing but setting up an ending I do not and will not accept. 

So who’s with me on the USS Denial? Point me to the fics, old and new, that show what SHOULD’VE happened. Help me come to a peaceful place of denial.

It’s the first day of filming for season 4. Raven Metzner sweats around his gross neckbeard in the Georgia heat as he goes through the scripts, trying to find any and every situation where he can put Jenny and the new ~awkwardly cute white girl~ witness into miniskirts. He nods a hello to Tom Mison as he passes by, then stops short as he feels cold steel slip between his ribs.

“Nicole Beharie sends her regards.” Mison whispers in his ear.

In L.A., filming her new TV show where she leads as a man-eating mermaid, Nicole smiles.

I quit the show in season 2, and when I heard about this I wasn’t gonna post about it, but it’s just so awful on so many levels. as a black woman, I was so excited to be represented in a TV show, let alone as a *lead* in that show. I loved Abbie Mills as the wonderfully three dimensional, engaging, and strong woman she was, with her own significant ancestry and storylines.

everything in me rejects that line. as much as I shipped Ichabbie, Abbie Mills did not exist for Ichabod Crane. BLACK WOMEN DO NOT EXIST TO PROP UP THE STORIES OF WHITE MEN. it is a lesson history, and our media, have yet to learn. when I started the show watching the pilot, I had hope Sleepy Hollow would understand that. instead, it did worse – it pretended it did, and then revealed its true colors. We waited for Abbie’s storylines to be focused on, and we got a gradual sidelining of her character for a parade of bland white women that went in and out of Ichabod’s life, and the show’s focus on them.

RIP Grace Abigail Mills. You deserved better.
