Oh… Are people still worried about spoilers? I mean, it’s been like half a year since TOH ended. Plus, what classifies a “spoiler” would be so subjective at this point that anything under the TOH tag should be avoided if you don’t want spoilers, right?

Please let me know if I’m wrong, though!! Usually spoiler windows are only like a month at most and I haven’t noticed any other TOH blogs still tagging spoilers, but I’m open to counter argument or whatever lol.

Like…. is it just me or does the concept of crusader memes fit the Golden Guard more than it should?

The fact that I drew Hunter possessed by Belos in September 2021 (before S2b) but didn’t post it here because it felt too far-fetched and then proceeded to almost forget that I predicted this shit until I looked through my old photos and went “oh yeah” (like just now)

I also had an unfinished animatic for the theory. I was right about Hunter, but my silly ass also thought Caleb got possessed XD (cuz my theory was that Belos made grimwalkers and hijacked their bodies to escape his curse and live forever. Caleb just was the poor soul that unwillingly started Belos’s little tradition)

Context: I have an evil Marcy AU called “Losing Marbles” and couldn’t resist making a dumb joke fjdjbfjfskhd

Losing Marbles looks really cool, and that animation was awesome, but I can't really stomach Angst with a Bad End. I saw it was tagged "hurt no comfort," but that sometimes still has a positive ending. Should I save myself the sadness?

Hmm… Even tho it’s only vaguely planned in bullet points rn, I wouldn’t call it a bad ending (like they do save the day and no one in the calamity trio dies). But it’s not a super positive note either?? It’s kinda open-ended because we have ideas for a possible second arc (which would end a bit happier I think? Don’t really know XD. Might not even get written tho hhh).

I can message you like a couple sentences of the main “sadness” ideas that we’ll probably leave off on in Losing Marbles if that’d help u tho!! I’d just like to keep it a surprise for most people ehehehe.

The reason I don’t like evil Marcy is because I think it’s ooc for her. I just can’t see Marcy willing wanting to hurt others, inspite of how much she’s been hurt. With that said, I will give you credit for Marcy’s fall to evil being the result of her friends neglect, and not “Marcy was always an evil monster who sees others as npcs” like so many others.

I mean she doesn’t want do downright kill anyone except sortaaa Andrias (but even that would be a whole Thing emotionally). She wants revenge and likes pleasing The Core, so she’s blindly following it, repressing any feelings of guilt/sympathy before they could show and masking them with anger towards her friends. She’s also trying to have fun with it I guess tho XD

Also, I honestly might not directly bring it up in Losing Marbles, but the phrase in the fic summary that says “The Core messes with Marcy’s head” can apply in two ways. Firstly, maybe it’s not always telling outright lies, technically, but it’s totally giving Marcy tunnel vision and making her only arrive at the conclusions it wants her to end up with. Secondly, the phrase is kinda literal, too. If it can control her body and put her in a custom mindscape (with sights, sounds, and everything), I wouldn’t be surprised if it was able to alter certain chemistry so she’d be slightly more angry, impulsive, and/or impressionable. And it probably IS doing that. (There also may or may not be a side effect or two when she’s under extra stress. :}) I mean, her emotions would still be genuine and HERS, just amped up a bit so they’re harder to control… ✨

While I don’t care much for evil Marcy, but if you were to go that route, I’d bring up how Anne has been living Marcy’s dream with no strings attached. Like seriously, she’s the one who gets to be a hero, who gets cool powers, she’s the one with the found family(ngl the double standard always bothers me)

For not being a big fan of evil Marcy, you REALLY fed my brain worms with this LMAO. I NEED to include this, but I kinda missed the main chance since I already wrote the only actual/direct Anne vs Darcy fight… HOWEVER!!! I’ll probably try to make Marcy realize at some point that she was extremely jealous, just unconsciously covering it up with anger and excuses until she calmed down or whatever. I mean this still works imo since Marcy wouldn’t want to focus on ways that she could possibly be beneath Anne, so she would just talk about the ways that Anne failed her.

OKAY it’s been over half a damn year since I last updated Losing Marbles and I STILL haven’t quite finished chapter 6, so thought I could give y’all a sneak peak XD

First off, here’s ch1-5 on AO3 (if you haven’t seen it, at least check the tags before reading this. But it is a continuous story so I suggest starting from the first chapter :P)

ANYWAYS!!! Enjoy the first 747 words of chapter 6 lol (btw it’s definitely a long [+ relatively heavy] one for me so far… this isn’t even half of the WIP lmao)

Not long after returning to the castle, Darcy sat in her chambers, rolling a purple twenty-sided die between her fingers as she impatiently watched the loading screen. Should be almost there, she thought just before the words “download complete” appeared on the monitor.

Tossing her D20 aside, she stood up and went over to the coral chair where a new helmet was plugged in. She ripped off the wires, picked it up, then seated herself, avoiding the armrests. After taking a breath and steeling herself, she hesitantly placed the helmet over her head.

Darcy grunted, fiery pain seizing her every nerve as The Core made itself comfortable in her body once more. She wanted to scream but bit the inside of her cheek to stop any pathetic noises from coming out. At least it wasn’t as bad as the first time.

When the agony finally subsided, she slowly opened her ten artificial eyes then heard, “Ah, well done.”

Darcy leaned back and, though they were still somewhat dazed, smiled at the praise. The Core must have already gone through their memories to see how it went.

“Looks like we’re behind schedule, though. We were supposed to be meeting with Andrias in the throne room half an hour ago,” it told them.

“Oh, shoot!” Darcy hissed as they sprang from the chair and dashed up the stairs.

Being late to their own meeting will not be good for their meticulous and calculated villain reputation.

Despite their anxiety, they slowed down once they made it to the main hallway. Running through the castle as a troubled mess would only make problems worse, so they walked with slow but powerful steps.

As she went, Darcy passed frobots putting up mass amounts of entangled cables along the walls and collared newts installing eye-shaped surveillance devices all over the castle. She noticed it earlier, but the rate at which it was getting done seemed to have multiplied as the day of the invasion grew closer.

Wow, you guys must’ve been busy, huh? she thought to The Core. What’s all this for?

“These renovations are to aid us in the invasion,” it stated. “The new additions will allow us to be omnipresent in mechanical tendrils across the castle, even when disconnected from you.”

Her lips pulled up into a wicked smirk. So, basically, you’ll, she mused delightedly, have an eye on everything?

A large, exasperated sigh echoed from most of The Core, but one of the voices let out a muffled howl of laughter, instead. Darcy grinned ear to ear, immediately deciding that the newt who appreciated her pun was objectively the best of the collection.

As she approached the throne room, she straightened her face before a couple robots on either side of the entrance swung the doors open for her. She strode in and Andrias swiftly lifted his head to see who had entered, tensing once he saw it was Darcy. Olivia and Yunan noticed his reaction then spun around and let out twin gasps of surprise.

Wait a second, Darcy thought as she stopped walking about halfway between the doors and the newts. Olivia’s and Yunan’s eyes were normal.

Tearing her gaze from the lady and the general, she stared at Andrias with narrowed eyes and asked, “What happened to their collars?” Though, it sounded more like an accusation than a question.

The giant newt seemed to prepare himself before stepping in front of Olivia and Yunan. He then said, “If I may, could you remove the helmet? I wish to speak to you directly.”

She scoffed and crossed her arms, already fed up with the conversation. “You will address all of The Core when speaking to me. Now, what are you up to? And where’s your little tiara? You know very well that we can’t monitor your thoughts without it.”

“Marcy-“

“Darcy,” she growled. Andrias knew that. He was trying to appeal to her old self, wasn’t he?

Andrias furrowed his brows but his eyes still held a little too much warmth. “Marcy, this isn’t you. I know how… persuasive The Core can be… but I also know you don’t want to hurt people.”

Darcy grit their teeth while listening, but stopped by the time he was done. Then they suddenly threw their head back in a fit of laughter. They soon finished with a sigh and went, “Oh, is that what you think, big guy? That I’m still the innocent little girl I was a year ago?”

I think your amphibia analysis is spot on. Marcy did get forgotten by pretty much everyone she loved, proving her fears where right all along(still don’t care for evil Marcy though). I get the impression that the writers just..didn’t feel all that bad about, and that her stabbing and subsequent possession was a punishment for her previous actions.

I mean it is actually BAD for writers to hold back and be too nice to their characters XD. There’s no story without struggle. But unnecessary pain that doesn’t push the story is another thing. I feel like Yunan, Olivia, and (kinda) Anne simply not showing much care towards Marcy in s3 might have been a cop-out for the writers to bring more focus to Anne, the protagonist. I’m of course not sure, but that’s all I can really think of so I’m livid.

What I’m saying is: the stabbing and possession is okay (from a writing perspective), in my opinion, but avoiding Marcy’s arc and not really giving her the time of day in s3 is A WHOLE OTHER THING. I understand that Anne IS the protagonist and Marcy was… incapacitated for a while, but little things like making a few characters Actually Care wouldn’t have taken much extra screen time (if any). The only reason I can think of as far as why the writers didn’t let that happen was that the extra drama around Marcy would’ve taken some focus from Anne. Which is dumb because she gets plenty and the whole story hinges on the trio’s friendship, so ALL of their arcs should be incredibly important…

This show had SUCH cool concepts and set up, but they kinda dropped the ball in s3…. I was theorizing about so many theories for Marcy’s arc, her possession, and how those would get resolved, but then they gave her almost no development/screentime, snipped a cord, had a one minute talk, then moved on :T

Ok but one thing that bothered me is Marcy’s relationship with the newts

Anne earns the frogs respect and becomes a hero.

Sasha proves her use to the toads, and while most of them leave, grime, Percy, and Braddock stay

Marcy does everything she can for the newts, and they forget about her the moment she gets stabbed.

Like what gives? Why are the newts so uncaring towards their hero? Some fans say that she spent so much time having adventures that she didn’t get to know them, but we know that isn’t true with how much she tries to befriend others(and even if she didn’t, certainly someone would have cared out of gratitude). So instead, it comes off as the newts being self serving jerks, and Marcy shouldn’t have even tried to help them.

Oh no no they didn’t forget about her!! Well they probably did for a bit but, after they decided to turn on the king, they then considered breaking her out JUST so the physically and emotionally scarred 13 year old could help them outsmart him. Not only did the thought of a rescue attempt only cross their minds for selfish reasons, but Yunan immediately tried to shoot the idea down. She wanted to abandon Marcy and leave her terribly injured in the hands of a “mad king” just because she overheard ONE mistake she made when she felt like her whole world was falling apart and wasn’t thinking.

I can see Marcy maybe not having a whole lot of personal conversations with Olivia or Yunan, but she was someone they knew — a CHILD at that — and had good experiences with. Yet they would’ve left her for dead if Olivia didn’t know Marcy once beat Andrias at a board game, meaning there was a chance she could outsmart him for them.

I do like Olivia and Yunan, honestly, and am deciding to think that the neglect was more from the writers rather than them as genuine characters, but it just makes me so sad cuz they could’ve cared a LITTLE BIT without affecting character arcs ;-;

As much as I love angst, Marcy deserves better than this shit that lowkey just makes the two newts just seem like bad people and doesn’t even serve the plot :<

Edit: WHOOPS I got so caught up in my rage that I didn’t even realize you meant the newts in general, not just two of the ones she personally knew XD. BUT UH I can sorta excuse everyone else (except like the Triple B ig) cuz she was up in a flying castle that only a handful of people had access to lol.

I’m SO excited to see someone (besides me, Froggy, and a couple other people we’ve shared our religion ideas with) have such similar headcanons about this concept as meeee!!! Like this is on the same wavelength as me and @froggythesculptor’s Losing Marbles AU and I’m going feral fhhsndhajd.

So much of these ideas in your art also happen to be in our fic!!! Marcy keeping the helmet, calling Anne and Sasha out, believing they only ever used her for her intelligence, believing they never listened or cared, getting ANGRY over that (though the feeling stems from sadness ofc)…. I’m eating this up THANK YOU!!

Tell me if you ever wanna talk about these kinda Evil Marcy AUs cuz I could not agree more with ur style sidhjsgdjshjenhfh

P.S. I really hope you’re okay with me comparing your AU to mine… I ofc don’t mean any of this as negative in the slightest and am just happy to learn about ur AU, but ik getting your art compared to smth else isn’t always entirely complementary, regardless of intent.

But I must say: I LOVED Darcy!! The possession was a really good concept imo, just not executed well… Like give her some control and let The Core act as a kinda sidekick (even tho it’d just be using her, could take over at any time, and would probably betray her in a heartbeat…. just don’t let Marcy know that djdhsnfdjhsnd) as it convinced her to go APESHIT-

I just came to a horrible realization. Marcy in season three was a Damsel in Distress.

Seriously think about it: aside from the finale, her only purpose was to sit around and wait to be rescued. Yes it would have been necessary to a certain extent no matter what, with the whole "being stabbed" business, but then they had to go ahead with that idiotic possession subplot and make Darcy an endgame villain. Marcy's brief mental world subplot in All In didn't even give us one of those "fighting the illusion from inside your mind" plots: she just resigned herself to her fate and hoped her girls would save her.

There's a very good reason the Damsel in Distress has fallen out of favor in recent years. Aside from the underlying chauvinism, a Damsel in Distress usually isn't a character so much as a lazy plot device, a prize for the hero to win after they've slain the dragon or killed the evil wizard or whatever.

The only thing worse than creating a character whose sole purpose is to be a Damsel in Distress is making an established character into a Damsel in Distress. And they did it to Marcy: a deep, complex character who was used amazingly in season two. They introduced Marcy as a deliberate foil to Sasha, gave us several episodes to get to know and love her, then dropped that massive bombshell in True Colors.

And how did they follow up that absolutely brilliant storytelling? They made Marcy into a fucking Damsel in Distress, whose only purpose for 90% of season three was to sit around and wait to be rescued. And for some goddamn reason they had to wait until the penultimate episode to do so, leaving no time for Marcy to interact with her best friends or truly be involved in the story.
