I did eventually learn what to do with my hands in prayer.
Ouranic gods: hands up (raise the roof)
Oceanic gods: arms outstretched in front of you
Chthonic gods: hands down. You are also welcome to throw yourself on the ground and be an entire mess.

I have my own deck of cards but can't find to connect to the meanings I read in the books and I get frustrated quickly when I try to come up with my own meanings or when I try to find meanings that "feel" fitting to me. Do you have any advice on how to do this? I really want to practice reading but I am stuck on this problem for what feels like forever
Tarot is the most popular form of divination today, so some may be feeling pressured to join the trend. But the truth is… tarot is not for everyone.
To be a good tarot reader, you have to learn the cards’ meanings. There is no other way around it. But the fact that you are frustrated by the journey could be a sign that it is not your calling.
It does not mean divination itself is not for you. But maybe you are trying your hand at the wrong system?
1) Lenormand
A deck has 36 cards compared to tarot’s 78. It has no reversals, so that becomes 36 against 156. It is very straightforward. Tarot’s communication card is called the Eight of Wands. In Lenormand, it’s called Letter. With tarot, you need a rich vocabulary. With Lenormand, a couple of keywords for each are enough. Here is a glimpse of what it can do for you.
2) Runes
A rune set is made up of 24 pieces compared to tarot’s 78. It does have reversals, so that becomes 48 against 156. Still two-thirds less to memorize. While Lenormand is more literal than tarot, runes are just as profound. Lenormand is great for prediction, but runes are better for reflection.
3) Charms
A modern form of cleromancy (the casting of lots), charmcasting does not require you to learn meanings outside of your own. If a butterfly reminds you of happiness, then that is the only valid meaning of that charm. You may buy a set, or collect individual pieces yourself.
4) Gypsy Cards
“Gypsy Oracle Cards” is an English version of Italy’s leading system of cartomancy, Vera Sibilla Italiana. Even more literal than Lenormand, this 52-piece deck has cards called Enemy, Lover, Friend, Sorrow and Hope. You may opt to not read any book at all. Just let your intuition expand the card’s names into your own meanings.
5) Scrying
Through a crystal ball, a black mirror, a black bowl or even nothing at all, scrying allows you to see into the past, present and future using only your faith and intuition. Answers to questions will come to you as visions, sounds and feelings. A very personal form of divination, it is best used on oneself.
6) Oracle Cards
Every oracle deck is unique. The card count is normally between 40 and 50. Choose from many themes: angels, goddesses, faeries, animals… the list is endless. An oracle card usually has a word and an associated image. While it comes with a little white book, you can create your own meanings. Here is more on what they can do.
If, however, you would still prefer tarot, I recommend dedicating a day to give this a try. I cannot think of a simpler way to learn.
All the best. 🌹
Moreover, Cosette was not very timid by nature. There flowed in her veins some of the blood of the bohemian and the adventuress who runs barefoot. It will be remembered that she was more of a lark than a dove. There was a foundation of wildness and bravery in her.
