Salves are a simple yet effective way of applying the medicinal qualities of herbs. Theyâre the consistency of a cream at room temperature and portable for on-the-go topical application. By combining various herbal-infused oils, an individual can address a variety of ailments, from arthritis to asthma. Each salve can be customized to the individual to treat a specific illness or can be general all-heal tool in your first aid kit.Â
Herbal-infused Oils
To craft a salve, you must start with herbal-infused oils as your primary base. For this, there are two components: your choice of herb(s) and your choice of carrier oil(s). Some commonly used carrier oils are olive, grapeseed, almond and safflower.Â
At the end of this post, there will be an overview of common herbs and carrier oils so that you can make an educated decision when crafting your herbal-infused oils.
Here are two basic methods of infusion:
Solar Method (Folk Method)
Take a sterilized jar and fill â to ½ of it with your choice of dried herbs.
Cover with your carrier oil. Add around 500 IUs of vitamin E oil for every 8 oz. of carrier oil to prolong shelf life.
Cap the jar tightly and place in a sunny space - either outdoors or indoors. Shake it daily.
Allow the mixture to infuse for 2 to 3 weeks, or until the oil takes on the colour or aroma of the herb within.Â
Once the oil is ready, strain using a cheesecloth and bottle into a tinted sterilized jar. Store in a cool, dark place.
Slow Cooker or Stove top (Fast Method)
Place your choice of dried herbs in your slow cooker or pot and cover with your carrier oil. Add around 500 IUs of vitamin E oil for every 8 oz. of carrier oil to prolong shelf life.
Gently heat the herbs on very low heat (100 - 140 degrees Fahrenheit) for 1 - 5 hours until the oil takes on the colour and scent of the herb. You can cook it for longer at 100 F if you would like.
Turn off heat and allow to cool. Once the oil is ready, strain using a cheesecloth and bottle into a tinted sterilized jar. Store in a cool, dark place.
Do not use fresh herbs when crafting herbal-infused oils. They contain moisture and promote the growth of mold, especially if infused via solar method.
Wax
Waxes are frequently used in making cosmetics, body care products and salves: they help to bind and emulsify ointments and lotions. They also function as a natural hydrating ingredient and alleviate itching for those with sensitive skin.
The most commonly-used wax for crafting salves is beeswax; however, vegans and those with allergies can utilize carnauba wax which is sourced from the leaves of a Brazilian palm tree.
Once the herbal-infused oils are prepared, the process of making a salve only takes a few minutes. Here are the steps involved in the process:
On low to medium heat, warm the herbal-infused oil(s) in the top of a double boiler or in a small saucepan.Â
Add the wax. Once the wax has melted, remove from heat.
If any, stir in any additional ingredients of your choice, such as essential oils.
Pour into your designated container(s).

âHave Nightmares Of Meâ
Made for my own use, but am happy to share with all of you.
Draw this on a picture of your target and keep it in a dark place. When you feel enough is enough, crumple or rip up the picture/paper and flush it down the toilet. Or if youâre doing it all digitally (as I will be)Â just delete the file. Charge it every Saturday.
HELLO OLD FRIEND - A DEITY SPREAD
For understanding new or existing deities that have presented themselves in your life. It invokes an understanding that the relationship flows both ways, hence the focus not only on them but you. This can equally be used for spirit communication/angel communication/etc.Â
Crystals to use:Â
AmethystÂ
Clear Quartz
Black TourmalineÂ
Lapis LazuliÂ
**When contacting spirits/deities, please take the necessary precautions (cleanse the room, salt circles, ground yourself.) At ANY time where you feel like the reading is out of your control or that you are in danger, politely end the reading and cleanse your space once again. Be safe, know your limits, and donât feel bad for politely declining a deity/spirit in which you feel like you canât serve with where you are at this point in your life.Â
Tarot of Pagan Cats â¨
now that iâve begun working more with energy, i wanted to share my methods of casting circles! when i first started working with energy, it was really hard to find references for casting circles, especially ones not dealing with the traditional Wiccan god/goddess. here are some methods and uses of casting circles!
the primary reason i cast circles is to protect me from outside energy influences. most people associate circles to protection from âmalevolentâ spirits, however, itâs just a great barrier in general!
here are some following scenarios i cast circles:
divination- to protect me from energies that might influence my cards or my interpretation o the cards
spellwork- pretty self-explanatory. i cast circles to protect from energies i donât want in my spells, or from potential spirit attraction.
meditation- again, for energy use and to also not be disturbed from anything spiritual.
1 - Invoking Elements
a very basic way, if not the go-to way, of casting is to place each of the four elements at each of the cardinal directions. Earth at the north, Air in the east, Fire at the south, and Water in the west.
fire
Candles (color them for intent if used in a spell! alternatively, electric tea lights work fine.)
here is a post about color associations for candles!
Anything symbolic of fire colors (red or warm-colored cloth, figures/statues,etc.)
water
moon/sun water (in a jar works really well, or in an open container if being used for blessing anything)
blessed water, or water related to whatever youâre working with (storm water, diluted essential oils, etc).
here is a good source of different kinds of water and how to cleanse them!
blue or purple colored items
earth
stones or crystals (this is what i love to use! just be wary that some stones are aligned with other elements. clear quartz is a go-to.)
salt
dirt (from your backyard or specific, such as hospital or graveyard. make sure to cleanse it.)
herbs (especially roots)
brown or black colored items
air
incense (different scents have uses as well!)
here is a post with scent correspondences!
steam
yellow or white colored items
alternatively, any of these could be replaced with a tarot card of the corresponding suit! (wands for fire, cups for water, pentacles for earth, and swords for air).
to close the circle, walk clockwise starting in the east (air) and complete a full walk around the circle. do this as many times as you feel needed to envision a complete circle! after your use for it is done, unwind it by walking the same number of times counter-clockwise.
note: if you live in the southern hemisphere, you may want to reverse fire and earth in your directions and walk counter-clockwise to close the circle, and clockwise to end it.
2 - Envisioning
this is a very, very simple way to cast a circle! if you have very little time, simply imagine a ring of light around your workspace. you could align color to purpose as well.
the only downsides to this method include the fact that it may not be as strong as a physical circle for beginners especially, as i have learned many times over as i find energy that i donât want in the circle. on top of this, to make it very successful, you may have to keep this image in your head throughout your spell or energy work, which may distract or hurt your concentration.
however, like i said before, itâs very easy, discreet, and requires no clean up! with practice, it could be very easy to maintain.
3 - Salt Circle
by simply spreading salt in a circle clockwise (or counter-clockwise depending on your location), you can create a strong barrier. as you walk around, envision your purpose of protection and safety.
if you are working outside, do not use salt. it will kill plant life! instead, consider alternatives such as: egg shells, diluted salt water, crushed herbs, flower petals, etc.
if working inside, consider setting out foil, cloth, or a tarp for easy cleanup.Â
4 - Cleansing the Room Itself
if you find that you for some reason cannot cast a circle, or maybe are just starting out, consider cleansing the entire room instead!
some methods include:
smoke cleansing (NOT smudging. please do not call this action smudging unless it is part of YOUR culture.)
salt or protective mixture
dance/song
salt/water spray
incense and candles
for smoke cleansing, light your bundle and start facing eastward, spreading the smoke and asking for protection from either the corresponding element or any deities/spirits/etc. you worship. move clockwise or counterclockwise.
for salt or protection mixtures, simply place a small pile in each corner of the room or at the cardinal directions.
dance and song can celanse the room when accompanied with smoke especially.Â
the salt water spray can be used similar to the protection mixture â spray a little in each corner or at the cardinal directions.
incense and candles can be placed in corners, the directions, or just throughout the room to act as protective energy.
make sure to remove your circle after youâre done!! leaving it up isnât safe and could be draining on your energy or health.
try not to leave the circle in the middle of your work, if it can be avoided. ive had to do it before and nothing bad happened, but sometimes it ocould break the circle, or bring unwanted energy or precense in.
do your absolute best to have all your materials in the circle before you cast it. bringing items that were not in the circle before could carry energy that you just do not want in your circle. iâve messed up plenty spells because of it already. if it is really necessary, cleanse the item as thoroughly as you can (quickly if you need to), and enter the circle from the east.
if these methods donât work right away, donât worry! these take lots of practice. some easy ways to try casting daily include:
cast a circle before you meditate
cleanse your room before you do homework for a safe space to work
if you have a form of divination, cast a circle before drawing a daily reading (i do this in the morning to see how the day will go or seek advice for the day!).
good luck!
Hey everyone. I want to preface this with a few disclaimers. First, not everyone believes in this. Some people donât find it necessary to take any protective measures, and Iâm not saying they are right or wrong. Second, it is very rare for anything terrible to happen, but I have seen it before.
Youâve probably seen a post or two that warn you about protecting yourself against dark entities when you reach out to your deities. Personally, I would rather be safe than sorry. I find it generally easy to cast a circle, so I do that before I do any in-depth communication/divination with my deities.
So how do you KNOW when to question who youâre talking to?
1.) They are telling you to do something that is harmful. If they tell you to do something unhealthy, or harmful in any way, question who you are talking to.
2.) They are causing you to do something that is unhealthy. Are you finding that you are excessively distracted or obsessed with them? Are you having trouble focusing during important tasks? This is different than being happy or thinking about them often. I mean that if you are trying to do something important, can you feel them trying to pull you away from it? Are you feeling threatened by them?
3.) They are telling you something that is too good to be true. I have heard things such as: Being told you are a deity reincarnated, being told you are âthe chosen oneâ, or that you are a demigod. Yes, there are people who are chosen to become priests/priestesses, but this comes with TIME and LEARNING. This will not happen until you build a strong relationship with your deity. It WILL NOT happen within the first couple days/weeks of practicing.
4.) They are outwardly sexual or seductive. (NOTE: I do not judge anyoneâs relationships with their theoi. Including sex in your worship is A-ok (with the permission of your deities of course). ) If you find that they are being overly seductive, sexual, or pressuring in any way, question who you are talking to. If they seem to only be talking to you about sex, question who you are talking to.
5.) Mania. Do you feel unrealistically good with them? So good that everything feels out of control and you feel blinded by it? You might want to question it. Connecting with your theoi can create happiness in ways you may have never experienced before, but it should NEVER be so blinding that you are obsessed or unaware of everything else. If you find that your life is suffering due to this, question who you are talking to.
6.) They are being manipulative or possessive of you. If you try to focus on something else, do they try to pull you back to them? If you start to question who they are, do they try to convince you to stay? Pay attention to things like, âI can make you feel better.â âI can be everything you want.â âYou will be nothing without me.â Manipulation is a big red flag.
7.) They are telling you everything you want to hear. Know what your insecurities are, and donât be ready to run off into the sunset as soon as you hear someone validate you. Yes, your theoi are extremely loving, validating, and reassuring. This is not that. This is that sickeningly sweet, manipulative voice. It seems to know every word you want to hear, and is quick to say them.
8.) They are pushing you to give any part of yourself to them. Are they pressuring you to invite them in? Your theoi may say they want you to devote to them, but they will NEVER pressure you. They know these are big decisions, and you can take your time deciding upon them.
Again, this is EXTREMELY RARE. I donât want this post to scare anyone, or make them question their relationships with their deities. I am only making you aware, so that you can keep an eye out for yourself and your loved ones.
The best way to assure that this doesnât happen is to cast a circle. I have also made black salts, and drawn protective sigils. However, casting a circle can be done hundreds of ways with or without tools. Build up your skills at it, and trust that you are safe when you do so.
(IMPORTANT NOTE: I will not ignore the possibility that mental illness has a place in this. If you are experiencing dangerous or harmful voices, hallucinations, or urges, please speak to a licensed mental health professional. It is important that we do not blame everything on spirits, when there can be other very real, very dangerous illnesses involved.)

Hi Diana! I am having a really hard time learning all the tarot meanings and interpretations. I don't trust online resources too much, since they give different meanings. How did you master your knowledge of the tarot and how are you able to receive a meaning from the cards so well? For example I asked the cards if perhaps I don't know how to listen to my intuition, and the 8 of wands jumped out - I don't know how to interpret that
Do not be afraid of coming across different meanings. They are likely to be all correct. What you can do is write down those that resonate most with you. And stick to them. Later on, when a hand-picked meaning is not applicable to a reading, your subconscious will bring up another interpretation you read somewhere on one occasion.
Your tarot deck itself is the best teacher you will have. Perform a weekly reading. Take a photo of the spread. By the end of the week, look at how the cards manifested. Was the Ten of Cups a dinner invitation from your parents? Or a wedding proposal from your beloved? That is tarotâs meanings being taught to you by the cards themselves.
Always interpret a card within the context of the reading. Symbolized by speeding arrows, the Eight of Wands means an abundance of communication. In the context of your question, it is saying that your intuition is just fine, but your mind is too chaotic, hence unable to hear it. Breathe and slow down, darling. Tarot should be empowering, not overwhelming.
WITCHES: IM GONNA START MY GRIMOIRE SOON SO PLEASE STANDBY AS I GATHER THE INFORMATION ON THIS BLOG. THEN IâLL DELETE IT AND POST AS NEEDED OR ASKED. THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE. đ¤
