😁Tips to Keep Your Sims 4 Save from Breaking Down! 💣🤞🏾

If you've been on YouTube lately, you've probably seen the wave of players dealing with corrupted saves, forever loading screens, and worlds breaking beyond repair. It’s frustrating, but after months of rebuilding my own save (with over 30,000 mods and CC files—yes, really😕), I’ve found some ways to keep major errors at bay.😁

While no save is completely error-proof, these tips might help you avoid game-breaking issues and keep your Sims’ world running smoother.

1️⃣ Backup, Backup, Backup!

Always keep a copy of your save outside the game—on your desktop or an external drive. Do NOT rely on the in-game "Recover Save" feature, because if your save is corrupted, chances are the recovered version is too.

2️⃣ Use "Save As" Instead of Spamming Save

Instead of constantly clicking "Save," use "Save As" and create a fresh save. Overwriting the same file multiple times (7-10 times or more) can bloat the file and slow down your game. Once you've saved a new version, delete the old one (since you have a backup anyway!). This keeps your save cleaner and prevents sluggish performance.

3️⃣ Be Mindful of Lot Placement

Some worlds are known for stuck items, exclamation mark errors, or disappearing lots—especially San Myshuno, Oasis Springs, Willow Creek, and Evergreen Harbor. If you're having issues, avoid placing residential-Rental lots there.

However, I’ve found Del Sol Valley, Ciudad Enamorada, Tomarang, and Ravenwood to be much more stable for residential and rental lots!

4️⃣ Don’t Go Overboard with Mansions

Large homes with tons of clutter and objects can bog down your game. If you don’t love playing super-rich Sims in mansions, consider using large lot spaces (50x40 and up) for community lots instead of oversized residential builds. It helps keep your save lean and functional.

5️⃣ Stop Hoarding Photos

Sims’ in-game photographs and screenshots take up a surprising amount of space. Keep only 10-20 photos per household and delete the rest. Also, regularly empty the "Screenshots" folder in your Sims 4 directory to avoid unnecessary bloating.

6️⃣ Keep Your World Clean

While your Sims sleep, take a quick scan of the neighborhood and delete random objects left lying around (plates, trash, random items). This helps prevent save file bloat and keeps the world from lagging.

7️⃣ Purge Unnecessary NPCs

Check Manage Households and delete unneeded NPCs. The game constantly generates new townies, and over time, they clog up your save. You don’t have to delete all of them, but clearing out a chunk can help performance.

Bottom Line

When your save file becomes bloated with unnecessary things, it becomes unstable! That means it will start to break down and cause issues—just like the errors many players are experiencing right now.

Keeping your save clean and optimized is the best way to prevent crashes, long load times, and corruption before they happen.

Final Thoughts

😕Is my game completely error-free? Nope. Right now, I’m dealing with rain and snow falling inside my Sims’ apartments and houses (because of course, EA). And I still get the occasional MCCC Last Exception (but they’re minor).

However, I’m NOT experiencing the major game-breaking errors that are all over YouTube. A few months ago, my save was nearly unplayable, but these changes made a huge difference.

Asher: No, we’re not staying there. We’ve been looking at San Sequoia. Lex: You can’t be serious. Asher: I know, I was unsure at first, but the more I look at it… I don’t know, I just see it. Lex: See what? Asher: Me and Atlas, settling down and raising our kids and building a life there.

Asher: Where are you going?

Lex: [sniffles] Asher: Lex?

Asher: Hey. Talk to me. Lex: This is it, isn’t it? The end of our friendship. Asher: No, of course not. Why would you say that? Lex: ... Asher: Come on, let’s go sit down.

Lex: Let’s not pretend things aren’t changing. I mean, you live an hour and a half away and we haven’t seen each other since March. And your kids aren’t even born yet! If you think you don’t have time now, just wait.

Asher: That doesn’t mean our friendship is over. We just have to be more intentional about calling each other and staying in touch. And I’ll let you know any time I’m in town. And you can come visit us whenever you want. No matter how much time goes by, we’ll always be friends.

Lex: I suppose. Still, it feels like the end of an era. You’ve been by my side forever. Hell, you were there when I got my braces off. Asher: It’s true. You were there when I adopted Jasper. Lex: We got drunk for the first time together. Asher: [laughs] And high.

Lex: You took me in when my parents kicked me out. Asher: You held my hand while I came out to mine. Lex: You put up with me when I fell in love for the first time. Asher: You put up with me when I got my heart broken for the first time.

Lex: Can I tell you a secret about that? Asher: What? Lex: I was the one who threw a brick through the window at Elias’ studio. Asher: Can I tell you a secret? Lex: What?

Asher: I already knew that. I’m the one that paid to get it fixed. Lex: Why would you do that? Asher: Because, you dimwit, he had cameras. You’re just lucky he called me instead of the cops. Lex: Well shit. Why didn’t you tell me? Asher: [shrugs] Because I kinda loved you for it.

Lex: I’m gonna miss out on so many firsts when you move away. Asher: Like what? Lex: Like the first time your kid pisses on you. Asher: [laughs] I’ll be sure to call you and give you a complete play-by-play. Lex: You better.

Lex: I’m gonna miss you. Asher: Me too. But I’m not gone yet, so how about we go get you that giant martini. Lex: Think we can carry it to my building and up the stairs without breaking it? Asher: Hell yeah. We got this.

BEWARE of Residential Rentals!

I went to place a lot yesterday and my entire savefile suddenly corrupted. I realized it was corrupted because after I placed any lot, all of the other lots in my game reset to the original version of them. They all looked fine from world mode, but once loaded into any lot the issue persisted. Read more about these issue here.

I rolled back the save and it was fine so I decided to try and remove the entire pack and see what would happen. After removing the pack, I could place new lots and the game was fine. Which meant for me the issue is FOR RENT.

I was nowhere near the limit of residential rental lot nor did I use any cheats to have more than six units per lot. I was not placing a residential lot when it corrupted. So far it seems fine to add the pack back and just avoid the lot type.

TLDR: Removing FOR RENT prevented my savefile from corrupting when placing new lots. The steps I used to stabilize my savefile are below.

Steps to remove For Rent:

1. Use this to load the game without For Rent. 2. Follow this if you end up with two different Tomarang Worlds when you load the pack back into the game. I did. 3. Remove each residential rental lot. I set them all to residentials. 4. Replace all of your household outfits that got messed up. Otherwise some sims will be nakie.

Tips:

Backups: Helps if you have backups of your households and lots in your trayfiles. Fixing outfits: If you don't care about relationships you can delete and replace or use MCCC to copy and paste the outfits back on the sim. Or if you have a dresser file, run that for new outfits.

This has happened to me a few times, but this was the first time I decided to see if I could role back the game, avoid the corruption, and restore my savefile.

I'm finished with the builds for Spice Market №2 - I added a Chinese food stall right next to the old factory. I imagine that this was at some point an added garage that was converted at some point to the food stall. Now I only need to add some minor details and playtest the accessability of the build - but if everything goes well, I'll upload this lot sometime during next week.

This lot will be uploaded as a residential lot to avoid bugs connected with the newer lot types from For Rent and the new pack. The lot consists of at least 6 shops, an empty factory, an apartment and two townhouses with a rooftop terrace.

⭐️MAKEUP OVERHAUL MOD⭐️

   I finally updated my vanity table overhaul mod! This mod now includes 4 modules, each working on their own, but I recommend downloading them all together!

 1. VANITY TABLE OVERHAUL

   I took into account all the problems with past makeup looks (some makeup looks were not as in the title, and also not suitable for darker skin tones).

   I used incredibly beautiful makeups from TwistedCat and Miiko, which you should MUST DOWNLOAD from the links below (about 10MB total):

   Examples of some overrides:

   I've tested each makeup on different appearance types and skin tones, so everything should look great this time around! But if something suddenly goes wrong - be sure to write!

   Also, all these makeups are applied on the stylist station from the «Get Famous» add-on. Now you can organize a real beauty salon, for this I even made a small fix, allowing you to ask to do hair or makeup of any sim, even strangers!

 2. APPLY MAKEUP MOD

   All these ready-made game makeup, of course, are good, but there are times when we don't need a full makeup, but still want to put on lipstick or eyeliner!

   For this, I made a mod that allows you to choose any makeup, be it eyeliner, lipstick, blush, eyeshadows or highlighter, and apply it individually!

   Now, a new 'Choose and Apply Makeup' menu will appear on your vanity table, clicking on which you can choose the makeup you want:

    I made a large number of different makeup options, from casual to evening. Here we also use makeup from TwistedCat and Miiko (I wrote about them above), which you need to download for this mod to work.

   There will be a corresponding animation for each type of makeup! I also added a new action 'Apply Perfume', which will give a confidence buff to your sim.

 3. MAKEUP OBJECTS RETEXTURE

   Various objects are used during the application of makeup:

    I changed some of the objects a bit, making them smaller, and also repainted all the textures:

4. NEW OBJECTS for APPLYING MAKEUP

   As you know, makeup in the game can only be applied with the help of a vanity table, which takes up a lot of space, and costs a lot of money! But in real life, we only need one cosmetic bag and a mirror.

   With my mod, you can apply makeup using the following objects:

    IMPORTANT! Place any of these objects on the table (it doesn't matter how, as long as it is on the surface of the table) and place a chair. Now you can apply makeup anywhere, because you can take the cosmetic bag with you!

   If you download the 2nd module, then with these objects you can also apply perfume and makeup separately!

   Here's how you can now apply makeup by placing a small mirror on your desktop:
