katara speaks to each member of the gaang individually and finds out that aang has been head over heels with her for years and no one ever bothered telling her. this takes place after the fire lord is defeated, but in my version, they never kissed in the finale:oo katara is basically dumb in terms of love and so is aang and they are peak miscommunication trope and theres too much zutara content and not enough kataang
OR katara interrogates each of her friends (toph, sokka, and zuko) and comes to the conclusion that she has lived for years without the kind of love most people wish for their entire lives
....
Aang liked Katara. Like-likes her, even.
Wow, she thought to herself, I really should’ve grown out of using the phrase “like-like” by now.
She just couldn’t use the other word. That four-letter word that communicated such intense, devoted emotion. As soon as Toph said it, it seemed simultaneously to be the most obvious thing in the world and yet the most fundamentally incorrect thing Katara had ever heard.
“Wh-what,” Katara almost stammered, tripping over her words in a manner uncharacteristic of the Gaang’s most graceful member. “What gave you that impression?”
She was met with a blank stare and a raised eyebrow. “Have you not noticed the way he reacts when you’re in danger? When you’re hurt?” She paused, rolling her eyes incredulously. “For heaven’s sake, Katara, Twinkle-Toes gave up firebending after lightly toasting your hands. He gave up the avatar state for you. To be honest, if it would save you from some impending doom, I think he’d give up being the avatar for you, as long as you’d end up okay.”
“I think that’s taking the assumption a bit far.”
“I say that that doesn’t take it far enough.”
“I, I just- know he doesn’t feel that way about me. In the cave of two lovers, back before you joined the group, we were split from Sokka and when I thought we needed to kiss to get through the cave…” she blushed, remembering the embarrassment that had burned through her body. “He… he made it clear that he wasn’t interested.”
She was met with an eye roll. “Whatever you say, Sugar Queen.”

Zukaang Week 2014
Day 4 - Forgiveness
idk what to say… zuko can’t handle all emotions that he has about his past and etc., and just released it to aang. and of course aang reassured him and told that he forgave all of it?dont read this
Helloween - Hold me in your arms
This is an appreciation post for the air nomads ✨️✨️ I like to think bison are a lot more diverse, and are very beloved and decorated by their owners. Sometimes it’s boring in the sky too, so pinwheels and kites are added for bending fun :)
The babies can’t do much but there are sometimes bison rides for the elderly and children (or open to anyone, really.) I imagine sky bison are a lot like yaks, who naturally shed an undercoat in spring that can be used for fabric. Spring is absolutely HORRIBLE for allergies though
And also the gaang! sharing aangs culture ect by making use of appa’s fur and trying to deal with the pesky lemurs lol
I'm sad that canonly we don't really know much about Monk Gyatso.
Well, that's what fanfics are for.
All I want is what is best for him.

But what we need is what's best for the world.

it just occurred to me that i never posted these kiddos here,
EDIT: i added the flame kids too🔥
(oh also i have a society6!<3)
the fact that even all these years later, people are still arguing over Aang’s choice to not kill Ozai suggests that A. ATLA is the goddamn best and you just can’t recapture the lightning in a bottle that it was and, B. it’s really kind of disturbing how many people are obsessed with the idea that Aang should have committed murder.
You see a lot of this in the fandom. Constant debates about how Katara and Zuko’s quest for revenge was correct in the Southern Raiders (despite the narrative painting Katara’s choice at the end as a correct one), advocating for greater violence on Aang’s part, and so on. But a biggest, disturbing trend is for people to claim that Aang’s decision to not violate the most sacred principle of his people as being immature.
There’s a tendency nowadays to see violence as not just a solution, but the only solution. That the only way to resolve a problem is to end life; to hurt people. It’s called a cop out when Aang chooses to put his own existence on the line.
The implication, therefore, is that the people advocating this sincerely believe that the mature thing to do is to kill.
Similar in nature to posts talking about how superheroes not killing is weak.
And the idea here, of the willingness to kill as a sign of strength, and as the only real solution to anything, is a deeply disturbing and unsettling one.
If Aang had killed Ozai, it truly would have been the end of the Air Nomads, their most sacred spiritual law broken by their only surviving member. Because Aang would have sunk to the level of the man who had ordered his people killed in the first place, and that of the nation which carried it out.
But when he Energybent, he knew that if he failed, he would have died in the process, and Ozai with him. Not only was Aang willing to put his life on the line for his beliefs, he was genuinely willing to die rather than sacrifice who he was, and the last lingering remnant of the Air Nomads.
i got a perfect match with azula on the mbti chemistry thing and bitch!!??? if that doesn't say anything about my mental health idk what will
This is so true.
also posting these two on their own :-) based on This post by @outpastthemoat
Guess who just got the complete series of Avater the Last Airbender.
Who wants to waste their life with me!
okay but like,,,,,,,,,,,,, arcade taang au,,,,,
toph goes in to the arcade where aang works and gets the high score for DDR and aang is like ummmmm sorry that’s mine,,, who’s the blind bandit????? and uhhh yeah and aang finally beats it and she comes in and breaks it without breaking a sweat and he sees her and she’s just,,,,, really pretty and he can’t even be mad that she took his place now,,,,, because all he’s thinking is how she would react if asked her to play the multiplayer dances with him,,,,,,, and she’s like???? cute front desk guy???? is talking to me i- can’t comprehend,,,,
katara would have never let toph or aang be bad parents. she would have whipped them into shape real fast. she would have brought out that trademark grandma wooden spoon and beaten the sense into them before they could ever neglect any child let alone their own; or, well, hers. lok did them all dirty and i’m still mad about it and that’s the tea.
these in particular are my favorite panels. shows their relationship so good; healthy too. First pic is literally what i imagine their dynamic as a canon couple. he always asks for her opinion in this comic and i love it. so refreshing from the Rift where they were both assholes to each other. Even when he disagreed with taking away Liling's bending, he didnt outright refuse her or say no. He said he'd think about it. Also refreshing from the show, where Aang was so set in his beliefs that he didnt consider solutions that differed from his values.
taang in imbalance part 5 cuz i love them omg theyre so pretty
taang in the comics part 4
ladies and gentlemen, the ONLY good comic: Imbalance.
everyone is so in character i LOVE IT except Aang. But in the good way. I genuinely got whiplash when reading this cuz?? is that rlly Aang?? omg hes so good. THIS is what aang stans think show-Aang is but hes rlly not. I love Aang's personality here. Confident, calm Avatar, still with a silly side, doesn't get angry irrationally, still heard Toph out when she suggested taking away his bending even tho I just KNOW show/gly Aang would've gotten angry/preachy with her.
Also this is a good example of what I mean where Kataang would be so good if they were just handled well! I LOVE them in this comic. Theyre so good and sweet together, espcially when they visited that island. She was supportive, but not in a way that made it feel like Aang was throwing a tantrum and she was shouldering it—cuz thats honestly what it felt like in the show. No. Here, it genuinely feels like one person talking about their problems and the other being supportive of them. A natural, equal relationship. Also they didn't call each other sweetie. Not even once. I love that for them. They managed to be rlly sweet together as a couple without resorting to cringe cliche moments like in GLY's.
However, while I did think Kataang was cute here, im still a Taang truther LMAO every panel with them together i went 'thats him and his wife fr'. Look how good they are together omg, I love their canonical height difference. And Toph is so pretty here, especially in her pajamas. Imbalance is what I think Aang and Toph would be canonically had they been in a relationship in the show. He doesn't get angry here, he's stable and grounded and not preachy. He hears out her opinion even when he clearly doesn't agree (as he was stunned when she suggested taking away his bending) and didn't even refuse it. He didn't say no. He just said he'd think about it. Even to Katara, he didn't outright say that he disagreed with Toph, he js asked for her counsel. But ik damn well the Aang from the show would've gotten mad and preached his monk values to her like he did with Katara in TSR. I also like the way he always cares for her throughout the comic, asking for her opinion, asking where she is—even when he didn't take on her suggestion of taking away Liling's bending, he still asked her if she was okay with it (with him doing a different plan) which I thought was rlly sweet. Just not in-character for show-Aang. No, this Aang is way better fr. I personally think this is how he would be had he been with Toph instead. His emotions are more stable, he's more confident and realized, set on his beliefs but not to the point where it'd blind him to other people's opinions—such traits align with my hc of how Toph would've affected him. Grounding and stabilizing him through her tough but understanding nature.
Unfortunate, bc Imbalance is how good Kataang could've been. But no, imo they're more like GLY. Which is why I think their marriage wasn't all that good in the future. Imbalance Kataang would never neglect Bumi and Kya. You know who would, tho? GLY Kataang.
In North and South, she literally told Malina that Malina had a change of heart bc she fell in love with Katara's Dad and that she'd revert back once she fell out of love like?? Girl?? What kind of thinking is that? Is it not possible that Malina came to her own realizations about the southerners on her OWN?? cuz yk shes a human being with her own thoughts and feelings? She's implying that Malina's—and essentially women in general, bc the way Katara phrased it didnt seem like singling out Malina specifically—beliefs are that weak and easily swayed based on whether she's in love or not. Which is crazy to me? Its obvious Malina had her own genuine realizations about the southerners that impacted her deeply—yes, maybe Hakoda inspired her, but her beliefs aren't going to magically revert if she stops being with Hakoda. It lowkey says smth about her and Aang's relationship cuz wdym? are your beliefs rlly that reliant on ur man??
Oh kataang the potential you couldve had :((
taang in the comics part 2
Last panel is literally THE taang panel fr. Also, the third pic is literally the only in-character moment of them. Even if Toph were canonically against the past so strongly (which she isnt the show,, she just wants her parents to love and recognize her properly. never does she want to run away from her past, she faces it head-on, like she does with everything else), THAT is how she would've done it. She would've at least explained herself like that, communicating about what she feels, instead of going straight to cruel behavior and rude insults. Is this rlly the same girl who felt so guilty about Appa, even though it wasn't her fault and she had done her best?
All in all, I HATE the Rift. I read it just for the smallest taang crumbs of seeing them side-by-side, even if it meant enduring the never-ending 'sweetie' of Kataang—Not that im entirely against Kataang, its just in these comics theyre so😭 like omg there is a time and place for that and its not here!!
Butchered my girl Katara so bad. Like theyre so...overly affectionate, kissing every few panels, calling each other 'sweetie' (im sorry thats so cringe), and its every soft romance wattpad I've ever read. Katara in the GLY comics is like those memes where the girl is so uwu crybaby-ified. I was a few pages into the Promise when I screamed WHY IS SHE JUST STANDING THERE. And when she finally did fight, she had to ruin the moment with "Don't set my boyfriend on fire!" girl...just fight they dont need to know Aang's ur bf omg, as if the sweetie wasn't obvious enough.
But honestly,, the worrying part for me is that the in-character Kataang IS the GLY comics imo. If Katara and Aang from the show were in a relationship, it's the GLY comics. Katara suppressing her feelings (like in the Promise with those fangirls) and apologizing to HIM even when he's the one in the wrong. Aang being irrationally angry and going into the Avatar State in emotional ways (like in the Promise,, again. Can you tell I HATE the promise). Katara having to calm him down with 'sweetie this isn't you🥺pls calm down sweetie🥺for me🥺🥺' the way she has to calm him down in the show (ofc not the sweetie part,, but she still has to, as if it's her responsibility). Her being damselled for the sake of Aang's development (like, again, in the Promise. When Zuko gripped her wrist a lil too tight to stop her from attacking his people, you know damn well Katara wouldve smacked the shit out of him with her own waterbending. But no, instead we got 'ow zuko ur hurting me!!' and Aang going into the Avatar State for it. No wonder he died early; the State shaves years off ur life, and he kept spamming it irrationally. And again in the Rift, when she was with Toph in the cave under the rubble. I feel like Katara was put there with Toph just so Aang would actually care. When he heard from Sokka that "Toph and the others are down there," he only asked about Katara, and visited them twice to, yet again, talk to Katara. And that's why he had sent for Toph's students to get them out. And! When they did get out, Katara ran straight to start making out with him instead of healing her friend, who passed out from saving them. Like hello?? There is a time and place for that. The Katara I know would've healed Toph first. No one, except her own students and dad, showed gratitude or worry for Toph for literally saving their lives. Another Appa situation I see.)
Another problem with Kataang I have in the comics is also in the Promise. Aang was about to ban mixed families bc he felt offended that a few well-meaning fangirls tried to participate in his culture, yelled at them, and ran off. He only changed his mind after he realized it would mean he and Katara couldn't be together—basically realized it would affect him too. Also rubbed me the wrong way that a girl who's such an activist looked at a family facing injustice and didn't feel defensive on their behalf (which she would be in the show—if she weren't with Aang), but instead, imagined herself having a family with her boyfriend. Its not too bad ig but it just rubbed me the wrong way when I read it. Like, why is THAT what you thought of when u saw them girl😭
Unfortunately, I believe that's how they would be canonically in a relationship, as their personalities in the GLY comics are regrettably more on par with the show (I can imagine Katara's character becoming like that post-show...unfortunately. Aang's influence.)
taang in the comics part 1 they look so good together even tho theyre arguing
tbh i have rlly mixed feelings about the comics. ESPECIALLY about the rift. Like on one hand, I enjoy having extra content about the characters. On the other hand, the whole comic was so bad. Like that is NOT my toph wtf. She has never been disrespectful about Aang's culture—to my knowledge, whenever Aang meditates, Toph is the only one who's been quiet. She also isn't against spirituality?? She literally spent her old years in the swamp, a place that is spiritual in itself. And she is actually quite knowledgeable about the philosophical aspect of bending, such as talking about its not only a power, but a way of life. Also, she has NEVER been this mean?? Aang is literally her first friend, she would never be cruel like this. She's snarky and pushes him to stand his ground, but she's never been like this. Also her very first dialogue in the Rift is an immediate red flag.
"Fire Nation alongside Earth Kingdom...You really think those people will get along well enough to govern this place, Twinkletoes?"
Like?? Okay maybe its possible to have doubts, but her expression and the way this is phrased implies she clearly doesn't believe it and is lowkey disdainful of it. Is this the same Toph who advocated to have Zuko join their team?? The same Toph who befriended Iroh, had tea with him in the middle of the war, and was friendly and welcoming to him in Ba Sing Se even after knowing he's part of the Fire Nation Royal Family??? that is NOT my girl omg
Aang...Imma be honest, the comics with this artstyle are the ones he's actually in-character for. That's why he's kinda insufferable in these im ngl. Imbalance Aang was SOOOO good, but he was clearly way better in that comic compared to the show. Show Aang is the same Aang as the GLY comics,, which is probably why I don't like him there LMAO
revealing my truth im indeed a taang shipper
Unironically Appa
aint no way the debate almost 20 years later is kataang or zutara? They were kids, uneducated, living on the run, traumatized children. Who were later placed in child marriages by the writers to appease adults who thought they looked kawaii together. This is sick.
Katara will forever trying to be her mother stuck in time, Zuko will forever be afraid of his shadow and reflection and Aang will always be that child with more pain than he can handle. I hate people who barely know these characters talking about ships and romances. They are so much more than that. The creators cant even delve into the characters because the fans catch a tantrum every time they do something adult or imperfect. Can't wait for the animated films to come out hope its ultra realistic and crushes everyones fantasies. These kids are warriors but people think they are cutie pies.
The show is spiritual above all else yet people only talk about this mess. Like tai chi is a real thing. Energy bending is a real thing. Katata does reiki heaking, Zuko's heat breath its a style of yoga, Aang being vegeterian and his love for animals that comes from universal oneness. Appa and momo are shown as concious beings.
So much to discuss, yet the focus is in a 2 dimensional understanding of relationships.
Guru patik was correct attachment especially to the false ideal of love via romance is stupid. The irony of Aang dying to save Katara is that honestly if given the choice over her father and brother or grandmother or Aangs life.. she wouldnt do the same for him. The love was misguided. Which is exactly the lesson of the story. But people think that choosing romance over your own soul is good. No it makes you a fool. Aang betrayed his own self and he died for it. Notice he only mastered the avatar state after he realized the others werent serious like he was cause in the end it was his life. And none of them would of fought the firelord for him. Even if they did they wouldnt of lasted five minutes. Zuko and katara could barely handle Azula. And then they only beat her because she had a whole breakdown. Only momo was with him until the end. This is why I hate fanservice it gives shippers to much to go off of.
people need to stop acting like Aang didnt treat Tenzin as his clear favorite and lowkey try to abandon the others. Aang is my favorite in atla and honestly it gives him layers that he was like this. Its so obvious Aang had illegitamate children its not even funny. Aang was not perfect. Aang traveled a lot and mostly with tenzin. The other two were closer with katara. I love avatar fans but sometimes yall forget the writers put subtext for a reason. To read in between the lines. People still think all those lok airbenders came out of nowhere .The characters did not stay perfect children forever. Aang was not a saint. Of course he wanted more airbenders. Those were his people. How would somebody who's people were killed off be turned off by the ideal of bringing them back?
I really do hate the idea that Aang was having kids JUST to repopulate the air nomads. The idea that Tenzin was a third time’s the charm situation, that Aang kept “trying” for an airbender and was disappointed with Kya and Bumi
I honest to god think Aang was not thinking “I hope this kid’s an airbender!” Each time. I don’t think the thought would even cross his mind until someone else suggested it. He’d be typed up thinking about how he’ll balance his new child in his life, Katara’s health, how to even be a father having no parents himself. All of those take priority in his mind
I honestly think Aang would be super appalled by the suggestion that “repopulating” was his goal with his family. What it says how about he thinks of his wife.
If anyone is going to have the thought “I hope it’s an airbender” I’d bet it was Katara. It’s still not why. But she knows and loves Aang and has seen how hard he’s struggled without the airbenders, how lonely he’s gotten, I could see Katara having the thought “For Aang’s sake I hope you’re an airbender” before Aang ever thinks “I hope you’re an airbender”
I don’t know man. This idea is just so gross to me, and I hate how it’s thrown around by the fans like it must be the case, with no room for questions, why ELSE would Aang be having kids?
Rubs me the wrong way. Really does
this is so so unpopular...but they both lowkey deserved better. They trauma bonded and never got a chance to explore and grow and change. That is why Aang was a terrible dad to his other two kids and I'm guessing Katara who was originally a strong willed person...didn't do anything about it. Their relationship wasn't healthy. Aang was 12...12 and then marries his first crush who was basically his fill in mother at what 16? He pretty much had no childhood and then immediately started having kids. I love both katara and aang but idealizing their relationship doesn't do them any favors. Not saying culturally Katara wouldn't of married young anyway but that was NOT Aang's culture and he certainly wouldn't of grown up to be strapped down and monogamous.
He worshipped Katara, correct, but just because she is the girl and he is the guy who sacrificed everything does NOT make it a healthy happy perfect relationship. I admit Zuko is a bad match for her too. But realistically Katara would of married some guy her age and had kids young regardless of the events of the show. Aang had nothing to go back to. No culture, no home, no friends. Of course he was desperate and had abandonment issues. Sorry I just cant with Zutara or Kataang. Like those kids didn't need to be with the equivelent of their middle school classmates. I would of been fine if they all grew up and ended up with other people. It would of been much healthier.
“Katara deserved better”
And then it’s Katara ending up with the boy who worships the ground she walks on, thinks she can do no wrong, gave up God mode for her, helped her commit environmental terrorism, cheered her on when she was beating misogyny out of an old man, was ready to take her to the other side of the world to find her a teacher when he’d just met her, constantly says he believes in her, that she’s amazing, that she inspires people and he’s proud of her.
But yeah, Katara deserved better.
So I made this blog for a paticular reason that reason has become null and void at this point. I figured some things out and it was time to move on. But I still made the blog. I usually just leave it rot in the ether of the internet but twitter is...I can’t talk that much and I talk alot. Also it’s quieter here. So I be busy and my brain is like..lots of ideas live in there and they do not pay rent and refuse to be evicted so I literally have no choice but to do something with them. Now because I am four years older than 18 my mind basically that of an old person now so I must write everything down. Everything. Or else I will return here and not know what in the world I planned on doing so for the future me and my sanity and whoever comes on here and finds anything interesting and is like hmm that is intriguing but what else is there like what will this person write about next. Well okay I will put here a detailed list of all the posts I plan on creating. Most are already written or drafted out in my google docs because I pre plan almost everything I can’t help it. This can change depending on how I think the format fits. Also since most of these are still in draft/research stage some ideas from years ago I may not even subscribe to the belief anymore but I still put in a lot of work so maybe it will interest somebody. So in no particular order

Jongin music analysis: this is the last one I’m putting no this isn’t me analyzing his music but the music he’s listened to for years and how I think it reflects a lot of things about him. I actually jotted down notes about his taste in music and after doing more research pretty much everything I thought about him was true. His taste in music and movies is so revealing because he’s such a transparent person. He is secretive yet at the same time wants people to know certain things. Some of those things are true and some aren’t.
LAST ONE whew. Kai is a method actor. Like a serious method actor. I learned that watching Andante you know what. Andante analysis.
So yeah I’ll try and see what’s the best to do first but like if anybody anywhere wants anything specific just say it cause if not I’ll just whatever whenever. I say this because as much as I love just reaffirming my own beliefs I’m always open for correction or broader thinking or just a good conversation. I hate petty arguing it’s so pointless to me and I much prefer to actual talk it out with people.
so yeah that’s it for now
