Really wanted to try my hand at a classic sonic style Agent Stone design.

They asked Lee Majdoub what he thinks of Stobotnik vs what Stone thinks of it and this man chose violence omg the more I read the more painful it gets
LEE TEASES STONE AS THE NEXT BIG VILLIAN his grief over losing Robotnik making him worse oh yes please
The first scene with Stone in Sonic 4 should just be him starting his day, showering, getting dressed, making...coffee, yada yada but he's doing all of this with a very forced, I'm-on-the-brink-of-a-mental-breakdown, smile. To top it off (and to twist the knife deeper), all of this is happening while Mr. Sandman is playing in the background.
Look we all love Stobotnik and we all know sonic 4 is going to be them getting married but consider Stone becoming the most fucked up person. I need Stone to compartmentalize his grief so hard he forgets the most fundamental parts of his identity. I want him utterly emotionless catastrophic threat level. I want him to take over the world while losing himself. I want him to wear the motifs of Robotnik while destroying a badnik because it got damaged so it was useless. I want him to make metal sonic and give him the most diabolical identity issues. I want Robotnik to come back and Stone is a shell of the man they knew. I want Robotnik to come back and Stone feels nothing.

I LOVE the parallels between Gerald and Eggman in Sonic 3. ESPECIALLY with how they treat Shadow/Stone (their respective henchman/helper).
Eggman's BLATANTLY honest with Stone, and certainly blunt, but he actually DOES care about him. In Sonic 1, he looks down on Stone, calling him a sycophant and stupid ("Way to go, you got that one"). In Sonic 2, he doesn't seem to hold Stone in a higher regard, saying that he and Knuckles should ditch him, and leave him at the Mean Bean. While Stone's completely loyal to him, and it's clear that he cares about Eggman, it's only in Sonic 3 when Eggman actually realizes that Stone IS the only person who ever cared for him.
Meanwhile, Gerald's manipulative. He seems to talk down to Shadow, primarily ordering him around and only bothering to keep him out of harms way during the London heist, BEFORE he has access to the Eclipse Canon. He actively preys on Shadow's grief, telling him that he needs to remember that Maria was taken from them, and that humanity deserves to be destroyed. Gerald doesn't even bother with correcting Eggman when he calls Shadow a "Thermonuclear gerbil". And when Gerald sees that Shadow is now working with Sonic, he says "I see you chosen betrayal. And you were once so useful to me."
Gerald was (likely) only using Shadow as a tool, something he could discard when it no longer had a purpose. But Eggman WANTED to keep Stone around. He IS the reason that Eggman tried to save the world. To Eggman, Stone was MORE than a henchman and sychophant. He was a sychofriend.

One cool thing I think about Agent Stone is that he's not xenophobic.
Like, yes he's evil and wants to take over the world and doesn't mind ruining lives but he draws the line at being prejudiced. Yes he can't stand Sonic, but that's because he's a threat to Eggman's plans and a target for Ivo. He kind of likes Tails and finds him cute, to the point where he wants to know more about him. Hell, even the beef with Knuckles isn't because the echidna is an alien, but because Stone thinks he's so dumb and therefore doesn't deserve his respect. When he took care of Shadow at the crab, he wasn't just civil, he actively treated him well. Stone cooked for him, kept a telenovela playing for him to distract himself and took the initiative to cheer Shadow up. He even said "we're going to take over the world :D" with the happiest face known to man. Stone was genuinely eager to share the victory of achieving his and Robotinik's life goal with this space kid he barely knew.
GUN really is the worst.

I like to think that if S1 Robotnik was slammed into the future after everything that Shadow would fucking hate his guts for the way he treats Stone. He’d be like the child trying to get between his momma and his new fling, and I want to scribble it so damn bad. I just have to figure out how I want to draw Robotnik 💔
