“cringe culture is dead!”
no it’s not. like i totally get saying this when you’re from an alt community or have an unconventional hobby and want to have fun, more power to you, but cringe culture literally never died. in fact, in the past few years, it’s actively been getting kinda worse
i remember back in 2016 at the peak of ‘cringe culture’ that it was still very easy to avoid. cringe was a genre that could be filtered and blocked. you could stop watching leafyishere and keemstar and whatever. you could very easily just see an EPIC SJW CRINGE COMPILATION and scroll past and forget about it. they were popular, sure, but you as an individual could ignore it. you had to actively go to a ‘cringe’ subreddit or scroll through the pits of deviantart to view cringe-related content.
cringe culture doesn’t need to call itself cringe culture because cringe culture has become normal internet culture.
it isn’t a niche anymore. it isn’t something that you can just switch off or block out. it’s in short-form content, in AI content, on social media. mocking people’s appearances and hobbies and interests and mannerisms isn’t a ‘cringe’ thing anymore, it’s just an average day on Instagram. AI content farms regurgitate everything tenfold. the divide between right and left has never been as defined on the internet as it is now.

So... With all these changes going on, I got a few things to say.
The new "Block" feature. I put quotes on that because with the new changes made, it is essentially useless. As it says, any accounts blocked will still be able to view your content, but won't be able to engage with them, such as leaving a comment or retweeting or anything. BUT if you truly want to protect your posts and limit who can see what, you can lock your account. But that means you won't be able to get more engagement or new followers.
This also means that NSFW artists/content creators who've blocked minors from seeing their content? Yeah, those minors are gonna have full access anyways and there us nothing we can do about it except maybe report them.
Any abusers/stalkers who like to keep tabs on your accounts? They can see, regardless of being blocked.
This has got to be a violation and Google Play and Apple App Store should put X on blast for it.
The second thing!!
If any of you have seen the tweet going around, there has been a recent change to the Terms of Service and will be effective come November 15th.
It'll let Twitter use your posts (images, videos, audio) to train their Grok AI. You can opt out, but come Novwmber 15th, you just automatically get opted back in.
I dunno about y'all, BUT I DO NOT CONSENT TO HAVING MY STUFF USED FOR AI PURPOSES!!
And if you feel the same, I have a suggestion:
I think that we, as artists and content creators, should unite together and nuke our Twitter/X accounts. I know it's a lot, especially those who have really put a lot of work into it, but would you really want to have all that hard work just be fed to an AI?
I say any and all content we have on Twitter should immediately be migrated over to other sites.
Bluesky is always nice and have no complaints so far and since these changes Twitter/X made, they've gain a huuuuuge amount of traffic.
Cora is another place I've been hearing about. I have no opinions about it so far, but did make an account. I've heard they're very anti-AI, so that's good!
Pillowfort could still be a go-to possibly. Hell, maybe even here on Tumblr since it's been getting active again!
We've got options! We can give one last fuck you to Elongated Muskrat to show what we think about his new changes! But that choice is ultimately up to you.

hi there. i don't usually make posts like this, but i want to look out for my fellow artists
this person messaged me, and was very obviously trying to scam me. i entertained it because i really do need the money, but it was obviously too good to be true. i wanna use this post as a guide for fellow artists on what to look out for on fake commissions, as well as a beware of sorts
this person dmed me, looking for a commsion of "their son's pet." now obviously this isn't always the case, but be aware of your audience. if someone comes in asking you to draw something that seems kind of weird given what you usually draw, first red flag.
second of all, this person offered me WAY MORE than what i was asking. obviously my prices are listed in the image above, and they are pretty solid. now tips aren't unheard of, but paying almost 600% more than my pricing..? that's your second red flag
thirdly, this person actually typed in my email wrong! this is how i was for sure that it was fake, but obviously this won't happen every time. my email is blurred for safety purposes, but they typed an O instead of a zero, yet the confirmation still went through. my email is not a common word, so once i saw this i was certain it was fake
and lastly, if someone "sends you money" through paypal and then tells you to check your email, it is 100% A SCAM. you should not have to go through an email to accept money you have been sent through paypal.
another tip if you are accepting money through cashapp. you should not be able to receive an amount over $1,000 through cashapp, and if the person wants you to pay like, a security thing of $50 for the money, it is 100% fake.
i've dealt with more scam commissions than real ones, and it's honestly disheartening as an artist.
