The final is on Tuesday and I am starting to feel the burnout. I’ve been working 8 hours every day and then coming home and doing chemistry for another five, and I’ve been doing 8-10 hour studying on Saturdays and Sundays. So waking up to you message this morning before I got to work on the final review absolutely made my day! I came back to look at it on my breaks and thought about it when I started getting frustrated. Thank you so much for thinking about me. It was so sweet and kind and I appreciate you so much!!! Look, I get it. Waiting for someone to write things, or make fanart, or update the next chapter of their AO3 fic is hard. Sometimes you really, really want new material because life is overwhelming; you’re in too deep and you need a comfort and an escape. I’ve been there myself! But it is never okay to tell a person who makes art, be it writing or fanart or music or edits or any other form of art that they are moving too slow. Think before you speak. Is this something I would want my audience to say to me when I’m having trouble making my stuff? This person pours their soul into their craft and all you have to say to them is: you took too long???

Finals are NEXT WEEK but I needed a break, so voila, have some Pabu shenanigans:
Crosshair leans down, scooping up a handful of water to splash the back of Wrecker’s head. “We get it, Wreck. Shut up about the fish.”
The mischievous glint in Wrecker’s eyes alerts Omega to what he’s about to do even before he moves. Crosshair sees it too, but he can’t move fast enough through the water to get out of the way. With a grin that spreads almost from ear to ear, Wrecker shoves his youngest brother squarely in the chest, sending him toppling backwards into the water with a startled yelp.
Omega clamps her hands over her mouth, desperately trying - and failing - to stifle her laughter. Lyanna has no such self-restraint, and practically folds herself in half from giggling.
She half-prepares herself for Crosshair to fly off the handle, but he comes up smirking, wiping the seawater from his eyes. There’s a hint of playfulness, actual playfulness, in his voice that she can’t remember ever hearing before. “You’re dead.”
That’s all it takes to set everyone off, and by the time Tech finally wanders over to let them know that the others are calling it a night, Omega has lost count of the amount of soakings she’s received.

I am looking for a Bad Batch fic I read on AO3 which focuses on Crosshair, Tech and Omega while they are captured on Mt. Tantiss. The fic opens with Hemlock breaking Crosshair’s and the Omega’s pinky fingers as a show of his power and cruelty to discourage either from rebelling. It later goes on to show Hemlock forcing Omega to operate on Tech in order to save his life, and Omega willingly subjecting herself to experimentation to ensure that the three are kept together.
I believe I got to this fic through a tumblr post, as I recall that I read it as a guest. If anybody knows what I’m talking about, I’d appreciate it if you could provide a link. It’s a really good fic and I wanted to go back and leave some comments!
EDIT: I found the fic!!! It’s called Through Darkness Unknown by StardustAndAsh on AO3. It was just a bit further back in my history than I thought XD it is a completed work, for those of you who only like reading finished products, and it’s so freaking well-written! Seriously. Go check it out!!
And what if, later, they adapt their signs to be mostly one-handed so that Echo can use their secret language too!! Maybe that’s why Wrecker can’t understand them in the show. Echo’s only been with them a couple months. They’re all probably still learning the updated version
It was Tech’s idea that the Batch should learn sign language. Partly as a way for them to communicate mid-combat if they couldn't use comms, partly so they could talk to each other on Kamino without other people overhearing.
Wrecker learnt bits of it, but he never got as fluent as the other three. Crosshair and Tech used to try and motivate him to memorise all the signs by having pointedly long conversations in sign and laughing to themselves like they're talking about something really interesting when in reality they're just arguing about cheese or something.
It's a mix of the standard galactic sign and their own signs that they came up with. It's useful in the field, for sure, but mostly so when Crosshair's arguing with the Kaminoans and Hunter's standing behind them frantically signing SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP before he gets himself decommissioned
As an irl emotional support human who also suffers from severe anxiety, I can confirm that adventures are what I was built for! It’s less scary when you have to do scary things with people who know what they’re doing, and it can make you braver in the moment because secretly, somewhere deep inside you, you know that you can do the scary thing! And working alongside people who also know you can do it, and encourage and depend upon you to do it will help you overcome your fear! Now as far as the emotional supporting, I’ve only ever done it platonically, so I can’t speak to how important the more private aspect can be. But I do know that providing people with support in the form of help with household work, external opinions on their schoolwork, company during a time when they just need someone in the room with them, a play partner to solve puzzles or strategize against, an organizational aide, good and thoughtful conversation, and someone simply to share a meal with can go miles in terms of helping their mental health. And yours too! If you are a person who enjoys doing these things for your people, then this role in their lives is as beneficial to you as it is to them. So don’t discount yourself as an emotional support human just because you suffer from crippling anxiety. I’ll bet if you examined your life, you’d find yourself already doing these things in perilous situations <333
Among the Bad Batch, we see a lot of the members actually fulfilling some of this role for each other: Crosshair and Echo running interference between Tech and Wrecker, Echo caring about the cleanliness of their shared living space, Hunter quietly keeping track of the medals the Batch has won together, Wrecker helping to regulate and vent emotions at the loss of Crosshair and Tech’s accidental apathy, Tech praising Omega for small victories, Omega’s ever-ready forgiveness especially when someone lets her down, Crosshair being physically present to Echo when the battle turned bad for them on Voss. All of this is emotional support human behavior.
I do think they could absolutely benefit from having a dedicated non-combatant who is the Emotional Support Human who wears the reflective vest and whose job it is to lay their head in their laps and help them through whatever rough stuff is going on this time. They have a lot of destructive behaviors that the Batch really aren’t equipped to handle for one-another. Like Hunter’s personality-shifting confrontation anxiety (I suspect Crosshair may have actually helped him with this one), Omega’s inappropriate selflessness, and Echo’s survivors’ guilt. There’s definitely still a place for us timid, anxious beans who just wanna give our favorite fictional characters some care and attention <333
Every time i think how fun it would be to go on adventurers with the batch my real life anxeity humbles me real quick. Like gurl your hands start to tremble everytime you have to drive somewhere unknown on your own, good luck on fighting with Gulags

This has been bothering me. I know people have responded saying that you act in a motherly way towards the Batch and towards Omega. I think they are looking at it almost in a “group mom” way. You are someone who acts as a voice of reason, and takes care of the others’ needs like food and play and cleaning.
The thing is: those aren’t inherently motherly traits. Yes many moms do them, but many dads do too. And many people who are neither moms nor dads. It’s just plain, ole caring for someone else’s welfare.
So while understandable that the traits are associated with motherhood and femininity because often our society downplays the nurturing role of the father, people should recognize that they are also fatherly and masculine characteristics. A man is equally capable of caring for his friends and family’s physical needs as he is for their emotional needs. It doesn’t detract from his masculinity if he is emotionally vulnerable to his people. And it doesn’t detract from his masculinity if he wants to give them a better quality of life because he loves them.

A redraw of my favorite scene from The Outpost. As usual, I am blown away by every episode of The bad Batch. To see Crosshair not only be vulnerable but to turn a new leaf was captivating.
‘HELP HIM!’
Realizing I never posted this here. The Outpost was probably my favorite episode of Season 2 and I’m really looking forward to Season 3
I think it’s also very important to consider the other side of this scene:
For us, as the audience, it’s very hard to extricate ourselves from the context we have of Crosshair’s actions. We know that Crosshair’s being torn between his loyalty to the Empire and his loyalty to his brothers. We know that Crosshair is having to make a choice for himself without considering how it will affect his squad. And we know that this is likely the first time in a long time that Crosshair has had to act on his own.
Hunter doesn’t know these things. What Hunter does know is that he needs to do what is best for the squad: a squad that now has a child with a high-value target painted on her head. A squad who Crosshair has very recently been doggedly hunting down. Hunter has seen Crosshair attempt to kill Jedi, civilians, and has actually seen him kill his own men when they refused his orders.
What Hunter knows is that Crosshair has no qualms killing, and has been after the squad for at least a month if not more. His and the Batch’s reaction to Crosshair raising his rifle towards Hunter is entirely understandable.
And I think that’s the part that hurts most.
Scene analysis
There's something that struck me about this scene – I’ve always had one single interpretation for it, ever since I watched it for the first time but I haven’t seen many people interpret it that way.
The thing is, I don’t think Crosshair was thinking about saving Omega here. At least I don’t think that was at the forefront of his mind. In fact, I don’t think it occurred to him that he was repaying her for saving him until she brought it up on the platform.
What I believe Crosshair was doing in that scene was protecting Hunter. Because Hunter would have jumped after Omega and Crosshair knew it and he had to stop him from doing it. We know the water is crawling with sea monsters and littered with debris, not to mention that Hunter may well drown in his frantic urge to save Omega. He can’t see into the water as well as Crosshair after all.
And I think that’s the case because throughout those two episodes we see numerous instances of Crosshair protecting or attempting to protect his brothers, from trying to convince them that the Empire is safer to killing his own squad and helping them fight the simulation droids (in that scene he sends a bolt flying above Hunter’s shoulder to dispatch the droid he’s fighting, proving that he’s not just fighting in self-defense).
That’s why I think his brothers’ rejection hurts so much afterwards. Why he huddles down in the pod looking hurt and he’s definitely hurt there. This isn’t about the Empire anymore this is about them. They’re telling him they don’t trust him anymore even after he’s repeatedly proven he won’t hurt them now that he hasn’t got his chip. Where they once let him use their shoulders as a rifle rest without a second thought (in TCW with Tech), they now turn their weapons on him just because the barrel of his gun got near Hunter.
(To be clear the angle makes it hard to tell just how close he was to aiming at him but I if you look closely you’ll see that he’s aiming over Hunter’s shoulder and Hunter only gets in the way once he turns around.)
I also think that’s the moment it starts to click - when Hunter turns to glare at him with suspicion we see Crosshair hesitate:
The camera lingers and something in his expression shifts, as if he's finally realizing what's going on.
So yeah, to me that’s what this scene is about. Hunter goes to jump and Crosshair’s knee jerk response is to stop him somehow. It’s not about Omega, it’s not about a life debt, it’s a simple response that’s been ingrained into him over the years.
Only now it's being rejected.
I won’t lie, it actually scares me a little how so many fans of this show think Omega is an annoying, whiny, helpless character. Are… we watching the same show? The one about the abused little girl and her family trying to hold itself together while every force in the galaxy seems determined to tear them apart? When you were 13, would you have been prepared to deal with the trauma of being kidnapped multiple times? Watch two of your older brothers try to murder your family on multiple occasions? See the town you grew up in, presumably with everyone still inside, razed to the ground? Have to say goodbye to one of the most trusted people in your life for an uncertain amount of time? Have your home and everything in it stolen from you? See your older brother freaking die in front of your eyes??
I don’t know about y’all, but when I was thirteen, the biggest threat I had to face was the fact that my mom kept packing me raisins in my lunch (gross), and trying to impress the cool rebel girl in my class who I wanted to be friends with.

Can we talk about omega’s characterisation in the latest episode and how she’s reacting to change around her because omg.
it reminded me of the bracca arc in season 1 where she warned hunter about the chip surgery, saying ”then i’ll be left here, with no one” and it CLEARLY shows that being abandoned /left alone is her absolute worst fear (hence why she wanted to leave kamino w tbb so badly) and in the span of the same few months she witnessed crosshair leaving, echo leaving, and the marauder, her home, where she had her very first own room, stolen—and it made me realise, that in her eyes, her worst fear is slowly coming true. Bit by bit, she’s scared the batch will eventually leave her. I’ve seen people call her ”whiny” or even ”annoying” this episode, but that’s not nearly the case.
She’s not whiny. She’s terrified.
