Pre-hotel Cactus Gunman meets his post-hotel counterpart
My take on pre-hotel Cactus Gunman, Clyde Garcia
Clyde was born on a cattle ranch in El Paso, Texas, in 1862. He lived with his mother, his father, his abuela, and his little sister, Clara.
The day he turned 16, he convinced his little sister to leave home with him to go out west in search of gold. The two gave up after five years of disappointment and turned to a life of robbing trains instead. He ended up at Gregory House after getting ambushed by a group of outlaws, and has been a permanent resident since 1888.
Clyde is the embodiment of an insecure coward who is desperate to prove his self worth. He takes up a gun not because he enjoys being a marksman, but so he wants to prove to the world that he’s a “real” man. The character he has constructed is a caricature, the embodiment of what the world thinks a man should be like. Clyde’s transformation into Cactus Gunman will be a gradual process that sees him adopting this false macho persona as the person he is destined to become.
