i will never forgive popular UT fanon for using chara as a scapegoat in the genocide run and making "sans recognizes them and attacks them on sight regardless of what run they're in" headcanons so pervasive.
mostly because "restless spirit of a long dead child who's obsessed with the concept of cosmic retribution and facing consequences for your actions" + "guy whose job is just that but he treats it on par with his hot dog sidegig" is potentially one of the most hysterical dynamics you could come up with
Here’s a small WIP I’m doing.
Hit. “Papyrus, Alphys. Asgore...” Undyne’s body hitched, struggling to stand. Holding her glowing blue spear in hand, she closed her right eye. Her body slowly dusting from her feet upwards. She began to dust quickly but refused. “I feel like I’ll break and scatter into a million pieces, but deep down...” Undyne grinned, tightening her grip on her spear. “I feel something burning, something that won’t let me allow this. If I let you past, it will be the end of it all, even the rest of humanity. Everyone’s hopes, everyone’s dreams will be crushed into nothing. But I WON’T let that happen.” Undyne’s eye opened, still grinning she looked at Frisk. “I can feel everyone’s heart beats at one, and we all have one goal. To destroy you. Human, whatever you are! I, Undyne. Will strike you down!” Her body dusted again, but she refused. Appearing with newer, stronger armor and a determined grin on her face. A long beam shooting out of her left, usually patched up eye. “You’ll have to try a little harder than THAT.”

I want to explain something real quick on the Player, or better, the Players. Because yeah, the one in my story is only one of the many entities that controlled Frisk. They only are the one that got caught up in this mess.
Undertale has been played by many people, but it is born small. So there probably weren't many who had the occasion to do a Pacifist before someone discovered the Genocide. I just said 26 runs happened before that because it's a funny number.
The Player in the story itself had his fair share of playthroughs, and this was their 46th. When the incident happened, that particular copy of the game detached itself from the original game and now the Player can't play with that account. They could create a new one buuuuuut it's no fun, right? After all they were itching for something different to happen.
So I have this character, a variant of monster kid, that for many reasons when he grew up became a merciless showman that does many shows (mainly on card tricks) and that manipulates others and never lets himself get involved in a fight. Now of course this is not all, but this is how the world sees him, and that's all you need to know for now. He was a big friend of Frisk back in his childhood so of course he is friends with FC (not canon name) as well.
I was scrolling through shorts on YouTube, and I came across that really old meme that goes like "gentlemen, gentlemen, let's be civil about this." And I suddenly became shocked, because I realized "Dang, this is a thing so in character for him, why didn't I think about this before?". Imagine. He is in trouble, he is surrounded by enemies, he can't escape, and he doesn't care and goes "Let's make a deal!", like he couldn't care less about the fact he's in danger and keeps up the playful and careless facade. And when they mock him and say "And how do you intend to kill us?", he simply smiles and, almost apologetically, says "Oh no, I can't kill you. But my buddy can! Say hi, buddy!", and boom! FC appears out of nowhere pissed off (like, REALLY pissed off) and says "hi" with a menacing voice that is warning "you touch my friend, I end your life". Just imagine. How the heck is a meme so fit for him?

Third post on the AU I'm pretty sure nobody noticed, but still exists anyway.
In this one I'd like to talk about FC (this ISN'T their canon name), and specifically code-related stuff about them. As I specified twice previously, they got their code destroyed, so what happened to all the code-needing stuff then? The answer is quite simple.
They're gone.
HP? Gone. EXP? Gone. LOVE? Gone. ATK, DEF, GOLD? Completely, absolutely gone. If you killed them (and to kill them means you have to find some way to make their spirit no more bound to this world and their determination) you wouldn't obtain anything. If you try to pull them into a Fight it won't work. They can physically harm you, but no damage will occur to your HP. They can only be harmed physically, and magic will work on them only if it can do just that (a bone sent at slow speed at them will only bonk them instead of dropping their inexistent HP). If they want to kill, they have to do it at a physical level. If they killed, it would happen what happens when you kill someone in the real world, no EXP or LOVE included.
I developed this mechanic based on a set of dialogue strings Toriel says in the Ruins.
If you go through the Ruins and get hurt in a fight but heal yourself (with a SAVE file or food) Toriel will still notice you're hurt physically, and she says she will try to heal you. If you go through the Ruins and you don't get hit, Toriel will comment how impressive it is that you managed to do so. This led me to conclude physical injuries exist in Undertale and they can be caused by magic as well and magic does not damage only your soul. That gave me the start jump of developing FC's ways of getting hurt.
By the way, in this AU the SAVE ability and the Reset button are an exclusive of the Player, since 1. They technically were the most determined being in the world, or at least were until this little incident (their superiority in determination is what allowed them to control FC in the first place) 2. Even if FC wanted to use them, these abilities can only be used by beings with a CODE, so they automatically go to the Player anyway 3. They are what ties the Player to this world, and if they exist the Player will always find a way back. However they can't use it since to physically press the buttons it requires a vessel that is the most determined as well, and since that role now belongs to FC it creates a situation where nobody can use the buttons.
That's pretty much all I wanted to say. Soulless!Frisk/Chara (in this post I will call them FC for short but this ISN'T their canon name) are literally made of determination. How is this possible? Well, in MY vision of Undertale the soul isn't the culmination of your being, but a mere recipient for whatever magic/trait your SPIRIT produces. It still is very important, since you need it to feel emotions and, in a monster's case, form your body. That explains how Flowey and Chara's spirit are possible, and how the other human souls still intervene in your favor in Omega Flowey's battle and how they keep producing their traits despite being dead. They aren't really dead in all three cases. Monsters' spirits pass in their dust when they die, that explains the reason behind the ceremony of putting the dust of someone dead on an object to conserve their essence. Also for me spiritual determination and physical DETERMINATION are two different things, the physical DETERMINATION being the one produced by the SPIRIT. So, I already specified in the previous post that FC's DETERMINATION condensed in physical matter to form a new body, thus creating a particular relation between the SPIRIT and the body. That's why they risk to explode at any moment. Since the Player inserted a special command in the game before playing this run (to see if anything would change) that made Asriel's last attack fatal FC's code is completely destroyed, so their DETERMINATION, to survive, reacts like this and makes the game crash. Just a mechanism of defense against something that shouldn't have happened in the first place.
In this post I wanted to clarify these things, since I feel like people would miss them normally and they are important to understand the story and how FC works. I don't exactly know what I'm doing, this is the first time I post something on Tumblr, but anyway.
I want to present you an AU of Undertale that has been on my mind for a while, and here I intend to write the main things about it.
Practically, in this AU Frisk is an actual person, a separated entity from the Player that got themselves possessed by it. Kinda like Kris in Deltarune, yes. The difference between the two of them is that Frisk can't just extract their soul by force and so they're stuck in their own body, controlled by a superior entity (PLAYER). Frisk desperately wants to be freed, but when the Player inserts a command in the code of the game, plays yet another Pacifist run (of the many runs they already did) and fights Asriel, Frisk will learn that said freedom comes at the cost of their soul. During the last attack their soul literally breaks, despite it being impossible normally, and their code gets erased. Since they are a determination soul though, and determination can break the game, all the determination they produce gets condensed and forms a new body for them, so now they are a soulless, codeless and unstable entity that goes around risking an explosion of raw power at any moment. In all this mess, Chara gets fused with Frisk's conscience too, so now they are like one different entity from both Frisk and Chara. Meanwhile, in the "real world" the Player changes computer (because their old one crashed in the battle) and reopens their Undertale files. This causes the game to try and execute a True Reset, without much success since now nobody remembers anything, but the barrier is broken and Frisk's/Chara's situation is the same.
This is all the background you need to know to understand the general idea. I'm still working on the full-length story, it's on Quotev and I intend to post it on Wattpad too under the name of Soulless!tale. It's not yet finished, and I wrote down only a couple of chapters, so don't be mad at me. This is the first time I write something for someone to read, and I'm not American nor British, so forgive me if my english is bad.
This is all I wanted to say. I'm sorry if my rambling annoyed you, and I hope you will find my story amusing.
There Isn't A Number That's Higher
Phew, I was wondering when I would get around to actually finishing this drawing. This is the second contribution I wanted to make for Undertale's 9th Anniversary. Though I initially hoped to finish and post it 2-3 days after uploading my other one, I ended up working on other things, lost motivation to work on this for a while, got busy and then finally pushed through to finish.
So... Chara really likes the number 9, huh? Was not expecting any Chara/Asriel lore from the recent newsletter, but I am really glad there was! Plus it gave me an excuse to draw Chara again. I thought it would be fun to add something to the drawing that I know the fandom used to draw all the time, aka Chara's mysterious/scary black eyeball ooze... stuff... whatever it is.
I think Chara is a super interesting character who unfortunately gets misrepresented like, a lot. I am glad that over the past few years there as been more and more canon information coming out to help disprove and also in general show things about Chara and their involvement in the story of Undertale. They deserve it! ❤

I can't believe I am finally uploading this! ;w;
This was one of the hardest drawings for me in a while to finally get to finish. I don't care that we are in the new year now, this was supposed to originally be uploaded before then, so I am counting this as my December post!... Which means... I have to try to also upload something else for this month! :'D
Moving on... so I decided to re-design and draw Kris again. The last time I had (at least publicly) was in 2018, so it has definitely been some time. I debated whether to show their eyes, and I ended up just going with "yes" cause I liked the energy it added to the art. But man, if I thought just getting the time to finish and finally upload this was hard, let's talk about just sketching the stupid thing. Drawing characters interacting like this is always tricky (for me at least), so I was stuck in the sketching phase for such a long time. Regardless, I finally finished and that is all that matters! I have... been trying... to upload this... for WEEKS!!! 😶
My job has kept me super duper busy cause... crunch time and deadlines are a pain, especially for when it comes to animation. Finally though, I had some free time to get around to finishing this up! There are two versions because I am indecisive and like both.
Anyways, for some reason a few weeks back when I started this, I was in a Chara drawing mood. I took some time to re-design a little bit of how I wanted them to look like before I went ahead and drew this. Mainly I just changed their eye shape and hair a little bit, and instead of tights I wanted to give them socks. I think they turned out cute! :D

I tried to make the comic more Tumblr-friendly by cropping frames into smaller sections... looks a little weird, but I hope it's easier to see everything? ^^' Also yeah I watermarked the heck out of it. Hopefully it isn't too distracting, but I'm really paranoid about art theft.

This took a stupid amount of time to finish finally. 🙃
So one of the many random headcanons I have for my versions of the Undertale cast is that Chara would have a pet rat named Hersh.
Though Toriel at first did not approve of Chara's rat friend, she realized over time how much Chara loves him, so Hersh became part of the family. Chara and Hersh love doing all sorts of things together, especially sharing desserts (don't worry, Hersh magically can somehow eat chocolate and not get sick).
Frisk likes Hersh as well, but does not understand why Chara gets so upset when Frisk's cat friend wants to play too...

My view/understanding of Chara, Frisk and Asriel/Flowey has forever changed for the better because of this post. I did not know I could love Undertale even more than I already do, and especially these lil stinkers.
I never realized that, despite me following the "theory" that Chara is the narrator for years now, I have not really taken the time to look through the narration and REALLY think about it being Chara... if that makes sense? Probably because I beat the game back in 2016 and never touched it again (aside from getting my mom to play the game for herself up to finishing Paps fight, lol).
Seriously, check this post out. I felt like I was reading some crazy good fanfiction only to realize "wait this is actually just kinda canon stuff basically". I am soooo motivated to just go crazy drawing tons of Undertale content now.
