This self-portrait of NASA's Curiosity Mars rover shows the vehicle at "Namib Dune," where the rover's activities included scuffing into the dune with a wheel and scooping samples of sand for laboratory analysis.
The scene combines 57 images taken on Jan. 19, 2016, during the 1,228th Martian day, or sol, of Curiosity's work on Mars. The camera used for this is the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) at the end of the rover's robotic arm.
Namib Dune is part of the dark-sand "Bagnold Dune Field" along the northwestern flank of Mount Sharp. Images taken from orbit have shown that dunes in the Bagnold field move as much as about 3 feet (1 meter) per Earth year.
The location of Namib Dune is show on a map of Curiosity's route athttp://mars.nasa.gov/msl/multimedia/images/?ImageID=7640. The relationship of Bagnold Dune Field to the lower portion of Mount Sharp is shown in a map at PIA16064.
The view does not include the rover's arm. Wrist motions and turret rotations on the arm allowed MAHLI to acquire the mosaic's component images. The arm was positioned out of the shot in the images, or portions of images, that were used in this mosaic. This process was used previously in acquiring and assembling Curiosity self-portraits taken at sample-collection sites, including "Rocknest" (PIA16468), "Windjana" (PIA18390) and "Buckskin" (PIA19807).
For scale, the rover's wheels are 20 inches (50 centimeters) in diameter and about 16 inches (40 centimeters) wide.
MAHLI was built by Malin Space Science Systems, San Diego. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages the Mars Science Laboratory Project for the NASA Science Mission Directorate, Washington. JPL designed and built the project's Curiosity rover.

HAPPY BDAY TO YOU:(post by DID-YOU-KNOW)
Every year on August 5, the Mars Curiosity rover celebrates the anniversary of its arrival by singing the Happy Birthday song. To itself. All alone. On Mars. Source Source 2
I had to post this in hopes that maybe it won’t be so lonely if we’re all thinking about… it.
I still think they could have given us a nicer translated version, and although I hate to admit it, the translation of his name in portuguese from portugal was a little better 💔 but wahh, it's still a win that we had galvan to dub him! I absolutely love his voice in the onceler, and I think it suits our greedie quite well !
(I love that umavezildo guy, I wish he was real /j)
In the brazillian portuguese dub of The Lorax, Onceler's name is translated to "Umavezildo".
Everybody knows that "Onceler" comes from the saying "once upon a time", because he tells a story. So he's someone who tells a story, thus he's the Once-ler. Many jobs and professions end with "er" because it defines someone who does a certain thing.
But in brazillian portuguese his name "Umavezildo" comes from the brazillian portuguese translation of "once upon a time" and it's said "era uma vez": "Uma-Vez-Zildo". What's funny is that the literal translation of this name to english would be something like "once upon a Zildo". In our BR portuguese, we use "zildo" or "ildo" in the end of a word when we want to mock someone, like if a person is boring, we will call them just boring but there are times we will say like "boringzildo" to mock (Chato (boring) = Chatonildo (boring but like mr boring)). There's a clear difference from when you're just calling a person by the word and when you're ending the word with "ildo/zildo". It's a funny mocking by the way, nothing actually offensive. It's like instead of just saying "you're boring!" you're saying "you're mr. boring!" "you're sir boring!". This is what the "Zildo" part of the word means, it makes the word a name; not actually like "mr" or "sir" but like it turns into a name, into a someone. The word itself "Zildo" is an actual name that exists so I believe it comes from that.
The translation of the word "Umavezildo" to english, after having this knowledge, would sound like "The 'once-upon' dude" "once-upon guy". It's not like a role/profession like the original english word "Once-ler", or else it would be like "Umavez-or" or "Umavezador" (like the words "contador (accountant), atuador (actuator), educador (educator)) , he's the "Once-Upon GUY". He's UMA-VEZ-ZILDO.
His mom doesn't call him "Oncie" in brazillian portuguese, she calls him "Zildo", or "Zildinho" (diminutive or affectionate and adorable way of referring to someone like "little Zildo"). Which is funny, because cutting the "Uma-Vez" part of his name, turns it into a normal masculine name a guy would have: Zildo.
Edit: I made a small research and discovered that the meaning of the name Zildo is "shadow" or "the winner"/"the victorious". This is from those websites that tells people the meaning of their names. The meaning of the word was already explained by me.
In the brazillian portuguese version of the Seuss book that I own "O Lórax" (the 2012 movie is called "O Lorax" without the accent), Onceler's name is "Erumavez" (from "Era Uma Vez"). The book calls the Thneeds by the word "Não-Cessidade" which is a pun with the words "não" (no) and "necessidade"(need). So the Thneed is called "No-Need". But in the movie they still have the original Thneed name with no translation or change.
My version of the book was printed in 2022 so the translation wasn't based on the translation of the movie.
Everybody here has watched The Lorax at some point at school and our "How Bad Can I Be" is actually translated to "Am I That Bad?". We love the dub of the song. It's a classic.
@aikoidiota we love our brazillian Zildinho.
I didn’t tell you everything.
Not because I didn’t want to… but because I wanted to see if you’d come find it on your own.
Some feelings don’t need words — just sensitivity.
I like when someone doesn’t just read my words…
but also my silence.
Yes, I may flirt…
but I have depths that pull you in without warning.
Try me — if you dare.

Little break This photographs is younger brothers (Twins) of Torasan. (This photographs is out of focus…..sorry :( ) Mother of Torasan gave birth to these twins again several months ago. And these twins came to come to my home. But, one of them died the other day. They are full of curiosity. I drew the picture of the dolphin, because the dolphin is full of curiosity almost as same as a cat. I wanted to draw it. As for me, Gonta dies and is lonely. but, I’m encouraged in their curiosity. They find the place that oneself live by their curiosity.
Yes let’s replace and travel the world.
