ok but can we talk about fairy tail's seven year time skip and the gaps that occurred in relations through that time?
like imagine you're erza and the guy you've known since you were a kid and you care so much about is responsible for so many horrible crimes but it wasn't really his fault, not really, but you discovered that too late. and you have hope that he'll go back to how he once was but now his memory is gone and he's gonna be in prison likely for the rest of his life but there's a chance. then you go to tenrou island and you think it's the end but when you wake up it's been 7 years and now you're still 19 years old and jellal is at least 26 and he's got his memory back and he's trying to make amends and he's so far away in life experience and relations with people and you feel you were left behind, he didn't even need you by his side to grow, to be good, and he won't really need you again
now imagine you're gray and you discover one of your oldest friends, like your brother, betrays you and the beliefs of the person you had in common but then the situation gets resolved and you can find peace between each other. but now lyon is seven years older than you and he's had longer time to advance his magic, ur's magic, and you know he's had to mourn both you and ur, and potentially looked at his magic and thought he was the last one from that little family of three from all those years ago. he doesn't know ultear, who has grown since the last time you saw her a few hours ago no wait, seven years ago, and she's also trying to make up for her many mistakes and she's more kind and gentle but you won't get to know her because she's already gone so soon after you returned
it's just so sad to think deeper about the consequences of seven years passing, lives continuing on without you and thinking about how everyone that loves you and you love thought you were dead and you don't know how to fix things or fit into this new time
An underrated aspect about Fairy Tail I wished was explored more was how selfish the guild can be.
Natsu, in the very first chapter, makes mention to Bora that he doesn't care if he's good or evil, but the simple fact he made the guild look bad was what sent him over the edge.
Or how, during the Moulin Rogue Omake, Erza makes a similar statement where she did not care about Bisca's struggles or that she stole stuff from others. But was only pissed at her because she damaged Fairy Tail's name.
There are other examples like the guild disregarding the guild civil war law when Phantom attacked 3 members, or how they basically stripped all of Edolos of their magic because the king targeted Fairy Tail. Or even Erza straight up telling Lucy and Gray to their faces to abandon the demons cursed in Galuna all because they betrayed Makarov's trust. There's a lot more examples I can think of during early Fairy Tail.
Stuff like those made me appreciate the cast more (and reminds me a bit of the Straw Hats), and I really wished we saw that more often. It made Fairy Tail just a bit more unique on that front.

I just realized, natsu getting punched the shit out of him because he gets distracted because lucy gets hit is kind of sad, because not only he gets worried, he probably freaks out.
He freaks out because since FLucy died, he's always been there protecting her, making sure that never happens again.
So when Lucy gets hit, and he can't protect her (him being there), he probably remembers FLucy, and how he couldn't do anything to save her

I found it so interesting learning when people started to ship Nalu. I see a lot of people say during the grand magic games arc which really highlights how great their relationship progresses from strangers to best friends to lovers which is so great to see. And really shows how they established a good friendship before the romance. Meanwhile I saw Lucy jump off a building and say I heard him in the distance and Natsu was there right on time to catch her and I was immediately locked in.
rewatching fairy tail rn and every time someone says "we're gonna hunt down all those fairies" it just sounds like all the villains are very homophobic
Natsu preaches his love for his friends, and he’ll die protecting them, no questions asked. Except I think he holds grudges. Never allowed to express them, because he’s always expected to love his friends. But sometimes he sits across Lucy’s table and breaks the silence of them eating, by saying something along the lines of “I didn’t like it when Erza punched me in the face today. I seriously didn’t mean to ruin her cake, it was an honest accident. She didn’t even apologise, even though I did.” And Lucy won’t say anything, because she knows he doesn’t want an answer - he just needed to air his frustration out. “Happy gave me the silent treatment, but I don’t think I deserved it. He always butts into our conversations, but I can’t say hi when he’s talking with Carla. He has double standards and I can’t help but feel annoyed.”
Lucy once tried to get him to tell his friends about the troubles he was having - that he didn’t care for being punched or being treated like nothing when he was doing all he could for everyone, but Natsu just told her that having someone to talk to about it was enough. Except Lucy couldn’t help but wonder if she ever made him feel that way - defeated, overlooked. So she asked him. He only said that his wishes regarding her hadn’t been because she upset him - it was him being possessive. Wanting her to stay in bed for longer, wanting her to spend more time with him rather than her books - all things he’d also be sad if she did, because he knew she loved reading and writing, and he loved the coffee she made every morning for the two of them.
Yes, Lucy was the one person who Natsu could never hold any grudges against. She who had offered so much to be with him - how could he be anything but grateful
Laxus is so much stronger then we give him credit for because if I was 17 and part of a wizard's guild and then my only two options for people to hang out with growing up where old ass men or actual children I would have gone crazy a long time ago
I'm not sure if this is a unpopular opinion or whatever but deadass the best episodes of Fairy Tail are the in between slice of life intermission episodes.
I'm talking the episode where the main cast switched bodies. It gave Levy some attention which made what happened to her in the following arc more impactful.
The episode where Juvia accidentally curses the guild as they all deem each other their rivals (Erza squaring up against a pillar and Gray throwing hands with a flying cat)
The episode where Wendy goes on her first mission and we see Freed be the biggest guy failure of all time.
The episode where Macao and Wakaba go through a midlife crisis and turn into monsters while Erza loses her mind and decides to be a superhero for a day.
Those kind of episodes really make me appreciate the cast and fleshes them out more. Even at point giving certain characters dedicated episodes since they have a moment in the following arc. It's absolutely criminal that I've heard people skip them because they're not canon. You're seriously missing out if you do.
