last update, i said that it would take until the end of this month to finish playtesting the prototype and decide on if its a good idea.
you can probably guess what i'm going to say, playtesting might take a little longer than expected. it should take another month to finish.
what program do you use to create music for your games?
I mainly use Musescore 4 for music composition. I also sometimes use flat.io for quickly testing out ideas.
i made a quick thing to use for testing music:
cool mysterious symbol things because why not.
significant amounts of testing and brainstorming are currently being done. if the concept seems good, i will announce the next game. it might take until the end of this month.
introducing NPC no. 0:
a criminal mastermind, NPC no. 0 has already found your exact coordinates and is sending its henchmen to kill you. you may soon have to deal with one of the following things:
weapons that launch sharp, non-detectable material into your body
anti-personnel mines
instant blindness lasers that leave you permanently blind
flamethrowers
mustard gas
anything else regulated under the Chemical Weapons Convention
introducing enemy no. testing!
i will be testing out battle mechanics using this enemy. the battle mechanics are the main reason why i'm making a prototype in the first place (i'm not sure if they would work)
yes, it is the grim reaper. i might reuse the sprite in the game over screen.
introducing solid block ID 0. it took me way too long to create and will never show up in the game. it also wants to find you exact coordinates but cannot move.
edit: it is just me or is the video quality really bad?
introducing our player character:
as you can see, it is very easy to tell that it's the player character. it even has "PLAYER" written on it. it also helpfully show what is and isn't the hitbox!
lore: this thing appeared some day for some reason and started killing monsters for no reason because that makes the best stories. it then started killing NPCs but that doesn't matter because they aren't alive in the first place. it then broke into reality and is attempting to find your exact coordinates.
i decided to use Monogame for the prototype of the new project.
this is my progress so far:
i have a feeling that this game will be very well optimized...
the prototype so far:
anyways now i will take a 20 year long break from everything
jokes aside, i will reveal the name in an announcement if the prototype seems good (might be june 17 ish or something)
i just released the Chinese translation for Secrets of Heraby. which means that i can work on other stuff now.
i may or may not post an image on 2024/5/27 that may or may not be teasing something...
a small reminder to go outside (assuming that you can read chinese):
i decided to add more to concept docs is this too long?
i wrote this thing because yes
i've been thinking about the lore lately and made these two things that might come in a future update:
its easy to see what was translated accurately and what i decided to have some fun with even if you can't read the language:
sometimes i wish lua had switch statements:
aaaaaaand now it's on the main menu... great...
i decided to remove the journal entries for the chinese translation because otherwise my sanity would suffer...
but then this happened:
THIS THING HAS NOW DECIDED THAT IT SUDDENLY WANTS TO EXIST. I SWEAR THIS THING HAS A PERSONAL GRUDGE AGAINST MEASDF;ASJKDFPOAWMPOEIJ,PWOEI,PWOGI,WPROIGJREGJLFGJHERGWPROIJWER;OWEIRJGL;KGJEONVEOIRUVNOEIUEJROWXSDKLJAGHSLDKFJASDFLSDKJFHSLAKGJHSALKGJHLKDSJFHWEROIFHWOEGHRLKJHGLSKJFHSLKJFHALSKJHGWUHFD

the release date for this game (2/26) is tomorrow. so i thought i might talking about what's next...
after releasing the game, i'm planning on creating a chinese translation for it, i also might add a few extra items if i feel like it.
after this game, the team is currently planning on another project to work on. we currently don't really have anything solid planned, but it might be a slightly smaller project compared to this game. (we're currently open to suggestions, so if you have an idea we might consider it).
anyways that's all that i can think of for right now, right now the game is just going through lots of playtesting (i procrastinated on most of it lol) and will be prepared to be released as soon as i wake up tomorrow.
hey guys, lets play a game...
see this thing? of all of bugs i had to fix, guess how many of them was this STUPID THING not spawning. GUESS HOW MANY TIMES THIS THING DECIDED TO NOT SPAWN FOR SOME IDIOTIC REASONAAAAASLKDJF;ALSKMVORWIHFODJXF,DLGH.
answer: too many
new orb of curses use animation:
new orb of flame use animation:
using the blood theft orb is cause an effect thing to appear behind the player (it fades very quickly, so i can't get a good screenshot of it):
the sprite being used:
i added an effect for when the orb of freezing is used (ignore the fact that i don't have an item equipped)
i decided to add some last minute items because why not
the first item is called the orb of freezing:
this item affects all enemies (including enemies that spawn after the item is used) and it basically stops them from doing anything. it will last for 12-16 player turns and will have a cooldown that lasts 12-16 new room generations (the cooldown amount will be the same as the use duration.) this item will not work on bosses (and certain boss minions) and has a 1/30 chance of appearing in act 2. it will also deal 2 damage to the player when used.
the next (and final because there is no way i'm adding 3 items at once) item is the orb of blood theft:
this item is passive and allows the player to heal 1 health when attacking an enemy. i created this mainly to be used with the orb of freezing as a free healing method for the player (assuming all goes well the player will heal 8 health every time). the potion healing upgrade will also increase the healing of this item to 2, which makes the healing upgrade a lot more useful. this item has a 1/20 chance of appearing in the first levels of act 1, a 1/10 chance of appearing in the last levels of act 1. and has a 1/5 chance of appearing in the first levels of act 2.
(wow i did not expect to vomit out two walls of text)
