the quiet whirring of the air conditioner mixed with your quiets snores as you slept peacefully beside Sakusa Kiyoomi.

He studies the slope of your nose that scrunches up when you tell him you're too full for the final bite of dinner. He brushes his thumb over the softness of your cheeks that puff up a bit more when you wake up in the morning. Your lips form a pout, even in your sleep, and he almost smiles to himself because it mirrored the pout you'd put on when you wanted him to indulge you — and he always did because it was you.

It's the middle of the night, and Sakusa knows he should have been asleep hours ago but his mind kept him awake.

People always told him that sparks never die when you're in love. But over time, he knew that wasn't possible nor logical. Over time, the sparks dwindled down, and things that were new to him became routine. It scared him at first.

But he still wanted you to cradle his face after training, and he still felt the need to hold your hand in empty cafe's on Sunday nights because it just felt right.

Maybe he knew it all along, maybe he needed a late night to realize it, but those people? They were absolutely wrong. Sparks die down, but that doesn't mean the loves fizzles out too.

Kiyoomi still felt love in the way you wake up early to send him off to training, knowing damn well you were anything but a morning person. Love came in quiet Saturday nights, the both of you doing your own thing but still having your limbs touching just because.

The sparks were gone, but Kiyoomi still felt warmth in his heart when you snuggled up to his side because you always loved cuddling him, even if he hated it (he loved it).

The sparks were gone but your love still felt like a warm drink on a cold night that felt a little less lonely with you by his side. Your sleeping figure beside him felt warmer than any spark or flame their is.

The sparks were gone but your warmth made him know that this was love, it was true, and it was home.
