bokuaka makes me so happy and this panel in particular just sums up their bond so well. bokuto beaming complimenting akaashi and akaashi feeling happy and thankful. they really are the “love at first sight” trope if you think about it. bokuto being akaashi’s star while bokuto sees akaashi as the world. since the moment they met, they were always bound to be together on and off the court. they just make me so happy!!

kita shinsuke: the modern-day philosopher

one of my favorite things about haikyuu is how realistic the story is and how the messages can be applied to everyone. kita was one of the characters i felt impacted by. of course, many of the characters before kita's introduction impacted me, but kita's philosophy deeply affected me.

Kita Shinsuke: The Modern-day Philosopher

kita is a character who played the sport diligently but wasn't in it for the glory. although he was raised by his grandma's words, "someone's always watching," he isn't concerned about being praised by others. being able to do stuff the right way is enough for him. before kita, we've been introduced to many characters who are willing to do anything to win and continue playing volleyball in the future. kita isn't concerned about any of that. playing to the best of his abilities and doing it correctly is more than enough.

Kita Shinsuke: The Modern-day Philosopher

the importance of daily maintenance is something i will always think of when i see kita. he takes care of his body, cleans up, respects his traditions, and practices volleyball daily. it's a routine he follows every day without fail. to many, this seems tedious. doing the same thing everyday without a break? without fail? without anything to gain from it? most people wouldn't bother to use as much time and effort as kita does for no desired result. i'm one of the many that find it hard to keep up a routine, especially if it requires so much consistency and effort. but kita does it without complaint, without fail, and finds genuine joy in it.

Kita Shinsuke: The Modern-day Philosopher

but even though kita didn't care about people's approval, the moment he was offered the captain's jersey brought him to tears. whether he cared or not, his efforts to improve himself did not go unnoticed. all that time he spent cleaning, taking care of his body, honoring tradition, and practicing volleyball led to this moment. but kita never had a goal in mind. being chosen as captain is a high achievement, but kita didn't join the team to eventually have this honor. he did what he believed was the best thing to do, and being chosen as captain was simply the result of his effort.

Kita Shinsuke: The Modern-day Philosopher

this panel changed everything for me. i even used this as my college graduation quote because i have such a heavy attachment to this scene.

kita didn't do all his daily practices to gain anything. he did them because it felt right, doing his best no matter what was more important to him.

i have a habit of always determining my worth based on the results. if i don't get a good enough grade, i see my effort as useless; if i'm not praised for something, then i feel i'm not doing my best; if all my efforts don't give me the results i want, i see my time spent as wasted but reading this scene changed everything for me.

the time you spend bettering yourself is more valuable than a result. after all, the only reason you get a good result in the first place is because of your time and dedication to your work. even though kita was emotional about his hard work being seen and rewarded, his goal wasn't to become captain. at the end of the day, he spent all this time doing things for himself.

the little things I do every day might not be valuable in the grand scheme of things; the time I spend dedicating myself to anything makes me who I am. the small, everyday things make us who we are. we care for our bodies, study or work, unwind, and prepare meals for ourselves. It doesn't lead to anything extraordinary, but it does matter. it matters because it's who we are. every little thing we do is a part of us, and the good or bad things that come with it are simply the results of what we decide to do.

kita's philosophy of doing things right because it's the right thing to do is simple, yet it's one of the lessons of haikyuu that has stuck with me the longest. we, as people, believe we need to produce results that have meaning to us, but devoting ourselves to daily tasks is essential to who we are as people and how we live our lives. we do the things we do because they are necessary, and the outcomes that follow are just byproducts.

kita is such an important character to me, and I wish this rant could do him some justice. all in all, kita shinsuke, you are the greatest philosopher of our time.

KITA'S LATE?!

My Lovecore Playlist My Paradise~ Ask Box 'Bout Me

Atsumu: "Wait....wait...9:01, Mister No Gaps Kita Shinsuke, is officially late for the first time ever. Alright, let's do this, who's got theories?" Aran: "Uhm...alright...his alarm didn't go off?" Atsumu: "All THREE alarms all with battery backup? C'mon, who wants 'ta take this seriously?" Ginjima: "Oh, maybe he was taken, in his sleep..." Atsumu: "That's what 'm talkin' 'bout. Super dark Ginjima, but way more plausible than Alan's idiotic alarm clock theory." Suna: "I bet he tucked himself into bed too tight and got stuck." Osamu, mocking Atsumu: "Maybe he fell into another dimension where he's more interesting." Kurosu (the coach): "It's 9am, why is no one practicing?" Atsumu: "Mister Perfect Kita, is a few minutes late an' we're all tryin' ta' guess why." Kurosu: "Well I'd like to play. I'd say he's in line at the bank, this is fun." Atsumu: "It is fun, but yer all wrong. He clearly slipped through a subway grate and is having a terrible time." Kita shows up Atsumu: "There he is, Kita Shinsuke, where have ya been? We've been worried sick, do ya care to explain yerself!?" Kita: "I'm just 70 seconds late? It's not a big deal, don't worry about it." Kurosu: "Kita, you will tell us immediately." Kita: "There was a problem at the bank..." Kurosu: "Hot damn!" ‧₊˚ ✩°。⋆♡ ⋆˙⟡♡ ⋆˙⟡♡⋆。°✩˚₊‧‧₊˚ ✩°。⋆♡ ⋆˙⟡♡ ⋆˙⟡♡⋆。°‧‧₊ Did you know: Aran's name is Alan Ojiro after translation. This most likely is because he is American-Japanese. There is a spinoff series called Haikyuu-buu which isn't written by Furudate but shows side stories. I think it was published in Jump at least the digital one. There are a few times Aran is shown and it's implied he's American. One of the Miya twins relates an American stereotype with his family and Aran gets angry about it. Also he is shown to own American flag underwear later.

accommodations as a love language: a fukurodani essay

Accommodations As A Love Language: A Fukurodani Essay

Fukurodani is probably the most unique team in Haikyuu when it comes to the team leadership structure. Bokuto is captain with Akaashi as his vice-captain. However, the unusual part of this is that Akaashi is a second year vice-captain in a team with no shortage of third years. If you know anything about Japanese senpai/kouhai dynamics, you will see how unusual this is. Compared to another second year setter-leader Kenma, Akaashi is very formal with the third years and seems to be a stickler to the system of sports culture.

Another unique thing about Fukurodani is that their captain’s number is 4 instead of 1. It becomes clear that Bokuto who wears the traditional number for the ace functions more as the ace of the team, rather than their leader. The training camp arc further cements this idea with Coach Ukkai and Miyanoshita Eri, manager of Ubugawa, making comments on Fukurodani’s play style:

Fukurodani is a team that has learned to accommodate Bokuto's ups-and-downs. They have complete trust in Bokuto’s abilities and Bokuto has trust in Fukurodani to not lose without him.

They are strong enough without Bokuto,

but they want Bokuto to do well.

Akaashi even states in 244 that although Bokuto's concerns may seem comical to some, they are very important to Bokuto and, therefore, Akaashi takes them seriously as well.

Bokuto is their mood maker and is very reliable. If you look through the Fukurodani matches, he is always the one praising his teammates for good plays and many people have commented that Bokuto being on a roll inspires others to do better as well.

This is especially striking considering Bokuto’s experience with his middle school team, ch. 335, where Bokuto was seen as too much and as a result, he often worked alone. Fukurdani is so important to Bokuto because they represent unconditional love and support.

As revealed later on in the plot, Bokuto is aware of his shortcomings. He takes responsibility for them, but also acknowledges Fukurodani’s help. He appreciates their support so much and wants to repay their kindness.

However, Bokuto is not the only one that receives the endless support of Fukurodani. They are a cohesive team and there are many scenes where they display familiarity with each other’s patterns.

Akaashi's habit of overthinking is noticed by Saru, Kaori points out that Akaashi is considered odd, Bokuto steps up to show his trust in Akaashi even when he starts to crumble. The team is not surprised when Akaashi starts crying and lets Bokuto be the one to comfort him.

It shows the unconditional love and support Fukurodani has for all members of the team.

They are not overly concerned when a member does not play their best because they trust each other wholeheartedly.

It is significant that they are the only team who are introduced together in the timeskip. It introduces the idea that Fukurodani is still a unit. There are even parallel lines where:

Bokuto, ch. 392: “梟谷(みんな)!!普通になった俺を見てくれ!”

“Everyone!! Look at how normal I am now (how far I’ve come)!”

Akaashi (and implied Konoha, Komi, Saru), ch. 400: “世界!!梟谷(うち)のエースを見てくれ!”

“World!! Look at our ace!”

There is an interesting technique used here in the Japanese where the kanji says “Fukurodani” but the Furigana says “everyone” and “our.” The world “our” is also special because it is “うち” which is a word that derives from “home.” Bokuto belongs to Fukurodani and Fukurodani is narratively a family.

Fukurodani is introduced in Haikyuu when Karasuno is learning to grapple with Hinata's new-found desire to improve begins to destabilize the team dynamic. They show Karasuno that selfishness is okay with your team's support, leading to the honing of new weapons and Kageyama's reclaimation of his crown. They symbolize a different type of strength that Karasuno did not have yet. Although the roles they cultivated allowed for some stagnation and stress during the Mujinazaka match, they were able to overcome difficulties to become even stronger, falling just short of #1 in Japan. Still, their loss became more of a reason to pursue their goals and although not all of them play volleyball anymore, they come together across Japan to support each other.

"Draw me a fox!"

said the person taking this picture to members of Inarizaki's volleyball team. Who is no one in particular, could be you, could be me, could be my Haikyuu OC.

Started as a doodle of me just wanting to draw the 3rd years interacting with my OC that just devolved into its own thing. Sorry if it's cringe I did this all in the wee early hours of the morning listening to Project Zomboid gameplay

captions for written words in Alt. Text.

Kosaku's note: Kosaku thought I meant cat at first.

Riseki's note: Riseki surprised me!!
Osamu's note: Osamu had fun at least. =_=

Atsumu's note: Atsumu was annoyed I asked during practice break.

Ginjima's note: Ginjima thought I was taking a video.

Suna's note: Suna told me Atsumu laughs like a fox.
Kíta's note: Kita looks proud he drew a fox from memory!! ^_^

Omimi's note: Omimi copied from a science book really fast and good !!

Ojiro's note: Ojiro was really happy to leave the twins who were bothering him..

Akagi's note: Akagi was trying to copy a Pokemon but he ran out of space

Taken from the perspective of a different character that could be you, your OC or someone else. Originally I wanted to do it from the perspective of my Haikyuu OC but then reading the captions I realized that it's too nice for the way I wrote her so just take it like it's a classmate, your character or someone else writing it.

I love the 3rd years so much I can't explain why but yes
