Oversimplified(?) Elvaria Lore- Part 4, Kingdom History(Key Points, Major Kingdoms H-Z)

Hikarina- The Alshaljilan Bloodline and the Tear of the Eclipsed Sun

During the establishment of Hikarina, one of the surviving Solarians' descendants happened to maintain ownership of the Tear of the Eclipsed Sun, an old artifact created during the peak of the Cycelian Empires era that meant to embody the might of Solaris. Inside of it was bits of power from every Solarian that was alive during the time. So they're a descendant of the artifact keepers of that era that were entrusted to keep documents of everything powerful created in the kingdom and also protect those items, but the only thing that their ancestor in particular managed to keep ahold of was the Tear The Tear is powerful enough to allow more sunlight to pierce through the sky filled with debris and more shit starts to fall from the sky, and is also strong enough to create a barrier around the new kingdom of Hikarina to leave it in eternal day. Become of that individual holding control over the Tear, they ended up becoming the leader of the new Hikarinans and would build a central cathedral in what'd come to be known as Arenlia to house the Tear. This individual would also establish the Alshaljilan bloodline, which was the previous ruling bloodline of Hikarina. So that bloodline disappeared during the years right before the Warring Era, with every last one of the 10 members that existed at the time having mysteriously just vanished This created a massive power vacuum of different noble families fighting(not a war just a lot of arguing and bribery) over which would become the next ruling bloodline, and in a century the kingdom went through 5 different families. Eventually the Falisthena bloodline arose out of nowhere(literally no one had ever heard of them) and people got sick of the chaos so the majority of the population ended up following them. The ones that didn't were either threatened to accept the new leadership by others or vanished without a trace

The Falisthena bloodline doesn't suck at leadership so for now they've remained in power and not a lot of people complain about them politically

Jivankova-

Nothing really happens here, but when the Urthalisans came across them, they found the Urthalisans interesting and let them stay, with some people adopting the Urthalisan culture over time. Since then, the Urthalisan culture has changed a lot, but the original Jivankira Elthir culture has endured

Lustarise- The War of Shattered Ruby

This was in the Ember War post but giving a bit more detail

So the Geintori are Lustariseans that absorbed a shard of the core of a crystal elemental by either accidentally touching one thinking it was just a regular crystal on the ground or having a dying crystal elemental assimilate itself to a Lustarisean through merging its core with their heart

When Geintori started becoming a thing, the Lustarisean population basically went from viewing them as regular members of society to something to be researched Some Geintori didn't mind because they were hoping there'd be a way to reverse the process, some felt their personhood(elvenhood?) was violated by the research protocols One of the Geintori that was part of the latter group was Kougyuku-rub(formerly Enshoukei Kougyuku), the brother of the Shin'nyo Apolis'Asuremant at the time Enshoukei Riebuno, with both of them being ruby Lustariseans The Geintori of course got very sick of this very soon and planned a whole revolt to gain some sort of sovereignty to they wouldn't have to deal with this if they didn't want to, so Kougyuku used his leverage as Riebuno's brother to convince the team of researchers on him to let him loose and then went on a spree of freeing Geintori on the research centers A war broke out very quickly in some of the cave chambers and a plot to assassinate Riebuno was created, with Kougyuku volunteering himself to take on the task Riebuno heard of this very soon and turned up at the front lines closest to the capital to duel Kougyuku, with the terms being if Kougyuku wins then Lustarise will allow the Geintori to become a sovereign kingdom, but if he wins then Lustarise will not hesitate to quell the Geintori population with a sound based weapon that'd shatter them all as he had been lenient with them initially The duel happened and it turned out to be a draw, with Riebuno taking a large crystal spear to the heart from Kougyuku's power and Kougyuku shattering into glittering dust and ruby shards from taking on a blast of Riebuno's power point blank(he was not the High Asuremancer for no reason) Honoring the duel's terms but also recognizing that this was a tie, Lustarise would agree to let the Geintori gain partial sovereignty as a sub-kingdom rather than a whole separate kingdom, but threatened that if another war broke out then they'd use the aforementioned sound-based weapon The Geintori would accept as this was better than nothing and would gain part of the Lustarisean cave system to claim as their territory, calling the new sub-kingdom Geintora The war would be named the War of Shattered Ruby in honour of Kougyuku and Riebuno, as agreed by both sides Some shards of Kougyuku still exist, but the amount of him turned to dust means he cannot be reformed and using substitute pieces to replace his missing parts would end up creating an entirely different person. These shards and a fragment of Riebuno's crest are stored in the central building of Geintora and Kangasaki Kyusen respectively

Oversimplified(?) Elvaria Lore- Part 4, Kingdom History(Key Points, Major Kingdoms A-F)

Åskorhal-

N/A shit doesn't really happen there

Avianaen- War of Bloodied Storm

So during the early Minor Wars era they had their own shit The Sky Lords were their leaders, being Aenirel, Lord of Rain, Enthivar, the Dragon Lord, Ilravoin, the Traveling Lord, and Thiroaven, the Lord of High Clouds They were basically viewed as divinity and were powerful enough to be seen as such, having forgotten their roots as elves and were really more like elementals. Thiroaven was the most respected of the bunch since he was basically viewed as the embodiment of the sky But of course, as they were still elves by soul, they still knew greed. Aenirel, Enthivar, and Ilravoin could keep their act together for the good of the new Avianaens, but Thiroaven could never settle for his reach being limited only to the air-lands of Syklari So yeah he betrayed everyone and tried to kill the other Sky Lords so he could hold sole control and scheme from there Whole war broke out and it ended with all the Sky Lords being dead and the Avianaens are still trying to figure out their purpose to this day since they feel lost without the leadership of the Sky Lords Since then they've created the Triumvirate of the Skyborne with three seats to represent the three Sky Lords that remained noble, and these seats are held by the priest families that once stood by their sides

Dalirna- Origins of the Nalgira and the Weathermagi

There was a very minor(?) crisis where when Dalirna was first established, some mages tried to make the deserts more habitable and made whole squadrons for it creating a new type of mage called Weathermagi(pre-Fall they imbibed pillars to deal with weather) That backfired pretty badly, and they're the reason why all the cities have to be covered by an Asurei barrier at all times because of the frequent strong sandstorms created from fucking around with the environment Some of those squadron members had their new magic backfire on themselves because no one was quite used to elemental energies yet, so they became poisoned by their own magic and mutated to become Nalgira which were not very intelligent but had very chaotic magic So that's the story of how Dalirnans figured out that even though they have better Asurei adeptness than the other surface kingdoms, they're also the most susceptible to being poisoned by it(compared to Lustariseans that are basically the masters of it and also immune(as far as they know) to the radiation-like effects of being exposed to too much of it) Any Nalgira that are discovered have their magic sealed off and sent to the desert to eek out a living and it's generally considered a crime against public safety to try to keep a relative that turned into a Nalgira in your house, especially if you live in a city

Weathermagi still exist to control weather and they're better at it, but generally the duties rely on elemental magic more than pure Asurei so it's left to Zodianans and Avianaens

Flaerna- The Ligniar Elthir and Tale of Asharena, The Warrior of Earthen Flame

Shit happened When the Solarian survivors of The Fall were figuring out life in the new fiery hellscape of Emorscal, on top of trying to understand their new fire magic, they had to deal with primordial giants(not the same as elementals) coming out of volcanoes that would terrorize the new towns The most powerful ones were coming from the volcano at the center of the land and it seemed to have some sort of "core" that was triggering the birth of more giants in the other volcanoes In underground caves it was less bad, they found half elves(hey it's the surviving pockets of elves post-Fall) that were like coal, and the half elves were willing to help from a shared sense of kinship They were skilled at making do, but mostly kept to the underground since they were very physically fragile and prone to burning out their lifespans whenever they used magic

The new Flaernans initially tried to fight back against the giants with the help of the coal half elves and had scrounged out a military to cull the giant population, with the charge being lead by a young Flaernan named Asharena Zhirkiyen

This lasted for about two centuries and as people got more desperate, the coal half elves were basically taken out of their caves and enslaved to become conscripted soldiers despite their physical constitutions being naturally terrible The Flaernans were considering leaving and moving to the surface of Cevris Atsal or joining the Dalirnans out of fear that no one could solve the giant problem, but Asharena got sick of the giants' shit and decided to charge into the central volcano alone to break the core, basically burning herself from the inside by letting her fire magic burn up her lifespan in exchange for power to charge through many giants and surviving plunging into pure elemental energy for just long enough to destroy the core surrounded by infused lava

The remaining giants would begin to crumble in the week after and the central volcano would become dormant, then solidify and be nothing more than a big hole in the ground

Asharena would be celebrated as the first warrior of Flaerna and become an example of duty to the kingdom and courage to the people that came after, with the city of Embylviska being established in the former central volcano No remains were ever found, so it's believed by everyone that her bones burned up in the lava and her soul became part of the land to watch over the kingdom

As for the coal half elves, only the Flaernans ever knew they existed, and they don't talk about it as it's considered a shame upon their history. The half elves themselves died out during the war against the giants

Floernia- The Tale of Lynaea and Cirania, the Speaker of the Forests

Okay they have less problems than Flaerna

So Cirania, a Dysheraln, lead the group of survivors to what would become Floernia out of benevolence, but the other Dysheraln did not respond so kindly Nature does not forget, and the memories of the Dak-Shan never faded. Cirania was willing to set aside the old grievances between the elves and Dysheraln, but the others felt that the elves culling Dak-Shan when the Dust Era ended, the Fall destroying land and rearranging continents, then the fallout poisoning the world with new elemental energies were all slights against them

Some of the Dysheraln, out of respect for Cirania, would move into isolation so they would not have to suck up to elves but also not be able to cause them harm Some of the other Dysheraln held onto the old hatred and would wage war with the new Floernians when they tried to settle in the forests A few were willing to set aside the past and actively ally with or at least advocate for the Floernians to the vengeful Dysheraln, but they'd be socially ostracized by the other Dysheraln

Now is there another war? No actually which is probably shocking

So even though the Dysheraln are technically not elementals(at the same time they kinda are, but are counted as half-elementals), they have their own little realm limited to a little half-plane above the land of Floernia and there's two big trees, The Ebon Cypress and The Cedar of Life The Ebon Cypress is what dictates natural death for the Dysheraln, and each of them that passes grows another branch upon the tree The Cedar of Life is what dictates the birth of Dysheraln and memories of nature Now this realm is supposed to be just pure nature, but the long forgotten past that even nature does not remember comes back to haunt them

So the Ebon Cypress actually doesn't do much load bearing, the Cedar does which means it's also more prone to problems Usually these problems are fixable, but this time it was hidden darkness that spread in the core of the tree and spread this darkness into the cores of the Dysheraln This darkness has always existed but never really spread until now, and it stored the malice from the memories of the past which became contagious and was why many Dysheraln could not move on

The new Floernians were told this by Cirania, who despite her great power was not immune to such corruption either, and all of them would gather to use their newfound control over nature to create a birch seed enchanted with their goodwill, with the nicer Dysheraln joining them to teach them how to keep the magic stable

As the malice continued to bleed into the wills of the Dysheraln, it was found that the process would accelerate if a Dysheraln was in the realm compared to outside of it, so many would remain in Floernia and didn't dare to venture into it Floernians that tried to go in were drained of their very essence by the trees as they were not elementals in any way, so some of the Dysheraln would choose to "reproduce" with some willing Floernians by pouring their essence into a pregnant Floernian, which would lead to the births of the Nynphor, a new variant of half elves that were free from the binds of the Cedar and Cypress and could also withstand their power better than Floernians could

As they grew up, Lynaea would be marked among them as the one with the most potential to bring the birch seed to the trees and plant it between them to purify the corruptive malice, as she was one that gave love and kindness freely even to a bitter darkness

When she was a century old, she took on the birch seed and acknowledged that she would likely not come back, with Cirania following her to guide her to the space between the Cedar and Cypress

Though the draining properties of the trees made her weaker with each step, she powered through and would clutch the seed closely, using her essence to plant the seed and allow it to take root from her own goodwill Cirania would sacrifice herself and become a shell for Lynaea's essence and the seed to protect them from the corruption for as long as it took to reach the roots of the Cedar, and thus would begin the process of the reversal of the corruption

Lynaea would never come back, but the Dysheraln knew her and Cirania's sacrifice as they felt the darkness that clouded their wills dissipate, and the majority of them would gradually return to their realms with the ones remaining choosing to tolerate the Floernians

The Nynphor still exist as the symbol of goodwill between the Dysheraln and Floernians, and the names of Lynaea and Cirania are still celebrated every thousand years as the ones that brought peace and unity

Föllen Alatsa- The Cave of Bloodied Quartz

No long story I swear So during the Ember War, there was a cave that was mined into and it was filled with bright red quartz that glowed and had an ominous feeling to them People that saw the crystals felt sickened on sight and could not be in their presence for very long Some people thought that these crystals had a new source of power and went in, and basically found out that those crystals are like an elaborate system of magical parasites and drove people mad if exposed to them for a long enough time in high amounts The cave was quickly sealed off and guards placed around the tunnels that led into it, and samples brought from the cave were quickly destroyed with the people exposed to them thrown into the cave Everyone exposed would mutate and go mad from the strange power of the crystals, and this actually warranted Lustariseans stepping in to magically seal off all the stone around it to prevent the cave from growing bigger through erosion and prevent people from mining into it by accident

The Current State of Elvaria

Ember War is over, everyone is sad and trying to bring back order but some people try to celebrate because no more war So because Salgirtus is dead and had no kids, the throne now passes to his younger sister, so it's now Queen Lidisina Mirankis Zhonal of Zodiana Leonnox didn't want to deal with the humiliation of Flaerna getting its ass handed to it and also didn't want to deal with the political fallout so he abdicates his throne to his cousin, now known as King Garaxyran Alaystav Kolvastran of Flaerna With the old Treaty of Elorinar having been violated many times over, a new treaty is drafted by Queen Lidisina and the representatives sent by they various kingdoms around Elorinar in the hopes that peace will last longer, called the Treaty of Elemortia Floernia, Dalirna, Zodiana(by default for obvious reasons), Walekria, and Föllen Alatsa immediately vote to ratify it because they're sick of war(Warring Era lasted for 22,500 years) Offers are extended to Åskorhal, Yukiosa, Lustarise, Jivankova, and Avianaen(they were found around the end of the Ember War), Queen Vethørigya of Åskorhal basically tells Lidisina to fuck off with the terms but Yukiosa and Avianaen would agree to ratify the treaty

Jivankova isn't even visible to the other kingdoms because of their weird ass barrier that makes Kavathanar "disappear" so they don't have to deal with other kingdoms Lustarise just doesn't care, they don't sign and return to isolation but send some of their mages to Dalirna for a bit to help them rebuild and recover due to similar ideals regarding the pursuit of knowledge Flaerna is pretty much forced into it because A, they don't have the forces to bother trying to fight it off, B, they kinda started the war, and C, the other kingdoms are in the position of being able to straight up invade if needed to force a signature from Flaerna So what made Flaerna and Åskorhal so against signing it? They'd be forced to demilitarize(this term specifically aimed at Flaerna), and should any kingdom be attacked by an outside kingdom, all the kingdoms in the alliance detailed by the treaty must get involved to quickly end the war and quell the threat through war Basically, if shit happens, they get another continent spanning war and Åskorhal doesn't want to deal with that The Military Sect of the Scorching Council is dissolved and all of the soldiers in the Flaernan military are honourably discharged, with the ones that fled returning to Flaerna to help rebuild So now the kingdoms that ratified the treaty are in a massive alliance called Elemortia, or the Order of the Elemental Kingdoms, and they also have to help each other rebuild which also includes setting aside what happened in the Ember War so The Beef™ doesn't create yet another war

Lidisina also creates the Starsworn Council in Zodiana to remove some ruler duties from herself because now that war is over she has to deal with a whole lot of shit and also because, well, her immediate family is dead so she doesn't want to solo rule or appoint a singular advisor she may have to marry to for public image

She also sails to Yinorael as a second thought realizing that it would be a good idea to make the two kingdoms over there enter a Non-Aggression pact so war doesn't break out there since it was terrible in Elorinar Both Hikarina and Yūregina choose to ratify it, but on terse agreement, so now there's the Order of Yiagilia but it's not a very stable order Good enough for now though So now it's year 233 post-Ember War, what's going on now? Yūregina, in a bid to try to stop the plague, has been experimenting with necromancy since it turns out that dying and being reanimated does actually stop the progression of the plague, but of course, no reproduction(if anyone wants further elaboration on how Yūregian necromancy works and why it's only them that can do it, just ask in my ask blog Consulting the bored Altersaean) and Hikarina doesn't like it at all They're still at their trade disputes though There's a running problem along trade cities(usually on borders of kingdoms) where a strange shadowy elf-like being is sowing chaos in the cities and capital cities are on high alert The Fractured Span, a section of the sea floor that's basically collapsing in on itself, is, well, collapsing in on itself and Walekrian researchers are trying to figure out wtf is happening Yukiosan researchers are still researching strange relics that are out of place in the technological skill of the modern and Classical Kingdoms(as far as they know because they don't know about big brain Estellis) Jivankova only opens up their barrier every 5,000 years for a week at a time so right now there has only been one expedition from outside kingdoms to document and understand the lands of Kavathanar and the Jivankira Elthir, missives are sent between kingdoms to exchange information about each other Hikarina just has a little cultural dispute with some people petitioning for the capital city of Arenlia to have the name changed to Punjaranm-Ka-Sanhar, as Hikarinian culture has diverged much from Solarian culture. The royal family has left the name as is to keep as a reminder of the legacy of the Three Kingdoms And of course, some brewing political problems in Föllen Alatsa because classist divides. So basically, Caldivelle is the only city at the mouth of the caves and sprawls along the sides and ground of the cave mouth. The higher up you go, the more wealthy the people are, with some manors built into the cave walls or protruding from them. Closer down you go and into the cave are wealthy craftsmen, and anything further than surface level overshadowed by extravagant buildings from the upper echelons of society are mostly upper middle class dwellings. Even further down are workers. Some people have openly questioned the nobility and royalty about wtf is with the very obvious divides, but they've been dismissed so far since there's no one actually homeless and people live pretty okay lives because of employment and shelter programs to account for a slowly growing population. Very little social mobility though, especially for those that come from the Lower Gem Deposit Tunnels. Caleivelle's Alhiana Alatsi residents especially take issue as if the tunnels collapse one day, they all go down. There isn't a way out other than lifts and long winded routes and a small amount of teleporters, and there aren't many Alhiana living in Caldivelle to relay their complaints to

Not Oversimplified Elvaria Lore- Part 3, Modern History(Warring Era- The Ember War)

Peace was never meant to be forever, and dissatisfaction kept the wounds of the minor wars from healing Flaerna still felt that they were given an unfair amount of land and renewed pushes into Walekrina and Floernian territory, but their efforts in Walekria were significantly held back by the mountain borders King Taknychko of Flaerna is assassinated, with his son Leonnox taking the throne and continuing the war effort Floernia was not so fortunate, and their border forest would be burned away as Flaerna advanced Flaerna's Scorching Council would plan a full scale invasion in secret over the span of a month, planning on enacting it within the first day of the coming month

Zodiana would choose to not get involved so long as their borders weren't intruded upon

A few days before the planned invasion date, King Anodir Zhonal of Zodiana was assassinated, and Zodiana, Floernia, and Walekria would pin the blame on Flaerna Flaerna, in anger, scrapped their invasion plan and declared war on the three kingdoms as they knew they could not prove their innocence to the other kingdoms Föllen Alatsa would not publicly declare their opinion and remain neutral to not be involved in a continent spanning war, and neither would Dalirna Walekria, Floernia, and Zodiana would join up into a military alliance and Walekria and Zodiana would send troops to occupy the Floernian borders to buy time for Floernia to build up troops More kings and queens are assassinated within the span of 5 months, with the list being- King Kolthremor Kelthrom of Åskorhal(leaving it under Queen Vethørigya) Thedeos Helithian of the Heartwood Province of Floernia Atathaeia Eurydine Diravacata of the Pinewood Province of Floernia Oranios Zilizane of the Oakwood Province of Floernia Lithinos Agistechea of the Grasslands Province of Floernia

Queen Verinae Galoris of Zodiana(leaving the throne to newly crowned Salgirtus Tulsier Zhonal)

Empress Zhi'mei Hai-yang of Walekria(leaving it under Emperor Yu'guan Qing-Shi) King Leonnox would attempt to reason with the other kingdoms that there was no feasible way for Flaerna to have assassinated so many leaders in under 5 months, but none of the kingdoms participating in the war believed him Walekrian and Zodianan occupation on the Floernia-Flaerna border ends after 6 months to focus on pushing into Flaernan territory, Floernia has enough troops to start a pushback against Flaerna and reclaim lost land Flaerna being surrounded on three sides with enemies and Föllen Alatsa maintaining neutrality, would seek Dalirna to aid them, guaranteeing protection of Dalirna's land should Zodiana launch an invasion on their shared border, and also assuring that all responsibility of Dalirnan losses would fall onto the hands of the Flaernans Dalirna would accept and believed in the innocence of Flaerna regarding the assassinations After the 2,000th year of war, Flaernans were weakened and a third of the army withdrew and defected, with some surrendering to the enemy kingdoms by offering information for their lives and lodging, and some fleeing to the surface of Föllen Alatsa to hide out The remaining forces would be pressured to continue fighting despite casualties reaching into the hundred thousands on all sides The new King Salgirtus of Zodiana feared that if the war did not end soon, the kingdoms would collapse, and so he travelled to Yūregina in secret, coming across a being(no not a demon I don't have those in Elvaria) along the Violet Rift Islands that offered him the power to end a war in exchange for his remaining lifespan and soul He would agree in desperation, gaining a strange mockery of a crown that sprouted from his head in a ring of bony tendrils and bony wings that could not fly but acted as blades These would mark his pact with the being, and he would return to Elorinar to continue the war, using illusion magic to hide the crown and wings While Floernia, Dalirna, and Flaerna failed to notice his absence, Walekria was more perceptive and viewed it as him doubting his own skill due to his youth, and would thus withdraw from the war, believing he was too young and inexperienced to lead the war and rule his kingdom He would lead the Zodianan and Floernian troops on frontlines and aim for the heart of Flaerna, assigning a separate front to force Dalirna to withdraw from the war from their own heavy casualties, would be successful He would make three more demands to end the war over the years but all three failed, leading to Salgirtus leaving behind forces at towns surrounding Embylviska and journeying alone to sacrifice himself to end the war He would call upon the power of the pact and unleashed a storm of caustic ash and bony blades that caused mass casualties among the Flaernans but avoided the other kingdoms, but the pitch black clouds tinged with red thunder spanned the whole of Elorinar This view would mark the end of this war that would come to be known as the Ember War, with Leonnox surrendering when he came to terms with the futility of the war This war would last for 2,500 years in total, leaving a great many dead or injured and many more living in the shadow of the legacy this war would leave behind -----------------------------------

So besides the war shit is the notes section which is here Yukiosa was discovered around the start of the war via Zodianan expeditions north, but they refused to join the war

Lustarise was discovered by a Föllen Alatsan right around the time Leonnox attempted to convince the other kingdom rulers that Flaerna didn't do the assassinations, but Lustarise didn't want to be known by the rest of the world and forced the Föllen Alatsan into a vow of silence When Floernia was building up troops, Nyaelis was established as a sub-kingdom by the Nynphor, where they offered troops in exchange for some sovereignty Speaking of Lustarise and Föllen Alatsa shit, Lustarise went through a whole ass war of their own during the Minor Wars era, called the War of Shattered Ruby where the Geintori half elves fought to gain some sort of sovereignty of their own. Even up to the Ember War, Lustarise and Geintora(new sub-kingdom) were dealing with how they'd officially divide the caves and allot resources for rebuilding and general living Föllen Alatsa had the Maeliron half elves create their own sub-kingdom called Maeliros Oh yeah and the Minor Wars also had some shit happening in the same time over in Yinorael, as a strange plague was inflicted upon the Yūregians that slowly twisted their forms over time to become monstrous, thus trade between them and the Hikarinians was halted with the Hikarinans fearing the spread of the strange disease to themselves Also with the end of the Ember War, missives from Åskorhal and Jivankova are sent to ask wtf happened, since the storm over Elorinar also covered the Gyvorkal Mountains and was visible from Kavathanar, so yeah they're "discovered" To previous lore post with the other links in it-

Not Oversimplified Elvaria Lore- Part 3, Modern History(Warring Era- Minor Wars)

Time passed since the last kingdom in the new continent were established, and the old mutual struggle alliances started to fall apart as each kingdom gained their own sense of identity The surface kingdoms would begin to start wars over borders and resources as they lacked formal borders between the kingdoms, and smaller kingdoms would try to establish themselves upon the borders but were subsequently crushed within days Lustarise would hide themselves from the world and seal the one entrance to their caves, and Föllen Alatsa would only be involved through trade and production of weapons for whichever kingdoms contracted them, with the deal being to not be pulled directly into the wars Avianaen, as far as the kingdoms on the surface were concerned, did not exist as it was hidden in cloud cover, and Åskorhal(formerly named Åsthenar but they changed it soon after their air land merged with the Gyvorkal mountains) would cull troops that came too close to the mountains. The rest of the kingdoms believed it was simply natural elemental phenomena rather than anything created by another elf, and so left the mountains be

No kingdoms involved in the minor wars wanted to compromise until it was absolutely necessary, and for many thousands of years they did not see it necessary even when death rates were greater than the birth rate, and death tolls would reach into the ten thousands, if not more Floernia would be the first to attempt to pull out, as they were often the victims of invasions from Flaerna and certain Zodianan politicians, and Dalirna would follow suit as they were never adept at war Walekria would be the first to suggest a treaty that would mark official borders and name the continent, and Floernia and Föllen Alatsa would quickly show support for the treaty. The minor wars on the Zodiana-Flaerna and Flaerna-Walekria border would be halted for a month for delegation to determine where each border would be, with many arguments and threats of invasion occurring but no actual action taken as each kingdom understood that these wars could not go on forever at their current pace At the final vote, Queen Anelede and King Dianeme of Föllen Alatsa, King Zhonal and Queen Galoris of Zodiana, all nine members of the Provincial Council of Floernia, and King and Queen He-Zhuo of Walekria would vote to ratify the Treaty of Elorinar King Garovstoyy and the Military Sect representative of the Scorching Council would vote against the treaty, drawing ire from the other rulers as many of them blamed Flaerna for starting most of the wars. Monarch Delstou and Queen Alshamsa of Dalirna, along with the Economic and Nobility sect representatives of the Scorching Council, would abstain from the vote.

With a majority vote of approval, the elemental continent would be formally known as Elorinar and the borders would be set, temporarily keeping the continent from warring for only a handful of centuries But of course, tensions still existed and kingdoms would still dispute over resources and borders, with Flaerna especially feeling cheated of the fertile land on the borders of Floernia and Qisara Kranor compared to the flaming volcanic wastelands of Emorscal

After all, no wars could be solved so easily, and external factors care not for who suffers. These minors wars have lasted 20,000 years Previous lore posts-

Not Oversimplified Elvaria Lore- Part 2, Classical History(The Age of the New Kingdoms/Creation Era)

Hikarina got the shit going so now more kingdoms will pop into existence in the nest 60,000 years

Åsthenar's island keeps moving and merges with a giant mountain range, so that's their territory and they call it the Gyvorkal Mountains Fulegria becomes Fulegor Adontium but still has their crisis The Hikarinians and Yūregians gave hope to remaining undecided survivors of The Fall that they could find a place in the world, so some began to sail out to the other continents they saw hints of from across the oceans Some feared that those landmasses from across the sea were only islands, and so held off on sailing until someone from the leaving groups returned Some Lunarisians travelled north to the frozen landmass they saw, learning to wield bitter frost to create icy paths through sea They never came back and some hope was lost, but more decided to sail away, believing the northerners had found land The frozen north became Halinskor, and the kingdom that would be established Yukiosa, the kingdom of ice Some Urthalisans sailed east to the continent saturated in elemental energies, learning to tame the capricious sea They created large boats which they propelled with their power, and found new land they called Jin'hu-Guo, establishing Walekria, the kingdom of water Unlike the Yukiosans, after only a thousand years, they came back for the remaining survivors on the now named continent of Yinorael, bringing fleets to ferry them to the elemental continent. Many went with the Walekrians except for a small group of Urthalisans that wished to find their own way, and this lot sailed south to the continent of Kavathanar, finding the half elves that had isolated themselves for many thousands upon thousands of years They chose to join these people in their mysterious ways and over generations would become indistinguishable from them, but never went back to Yinorael Those that went with the Walekrians would gain new power as they traversed the continent, bringing with them new kingdoms. Some Lunarisians found a light in the caves of which they followed to find abundances of minerals, and so they called the land Cevris Astal and established the subterranean kingdom of earth, Föllen Alatsa

Some Solarians felt the heat of magma that reminded them of the sun they once loved, and so they called the scorched land Emorscal and established the kingdom of flame, Flaerna

Some Urthalisans travelled through cavernous darkness along a river that seemed to breathe and found a vast cave of crystals that radiated with the glow of Asurei, and so they established the kingdom of crystal bearing the name of Lustarise, a name shared by the cave system that birthed the kingdom

Those that followed the Flaernans but did not embrace fire traveled northeast and discovered the arid desert, yet they were not satisfied with the scorching heat it brought There was no other land that they felt a call to, and this one they felt was closest to the sun they once embraced, and so they called the land Desaebla and established the kingdom of sand, Dalirna But not all of those that came to the new continent had found a place where they belonged, so they would be guided by observant beings to lands and powers they could call their own Cirania, a benevolent being among the Dysheraln descended from the Dak-Shan of old, decided to lead one of the outlier groups to the land of forests and grasslands, teaching them to embrace the powers of nature despite it not being a legitimate element, and so this land of green and the new kingdom of nature would both be named Floernia The Sky Lords, the four elves that fused with powerful air elementals over a hundred thousand years ago, would come down from the air lands above to lead another of the outlier groups to the land above the clouds, teaching them to embrace the sky instead of the distant sun and moon, and so this land far above would be named Syklari, and the kingdom of air, Avianaen, would be established The final outlier group would find their place in the continent a century later, still clinging to their roots of celestial power from the solar and lunar legacy that died after The Fall Two beings would descend from the dark of night and light of stars to bring the group past a dense forest to the north- Sarkath, The Celestial One, and Qilanar, The Black Serpent They would each bless one half of the group, with Sarkath granting his half the ability to reach towards the stars once more and draw power from stellar energies, and Qilanar granting her half the ability to pierce through the darkness of space and draw power from the inky blackness that embraced the stars These elves would call the land Qisara Kranor and establish the kingdom of Zodiana, worshipping the wyrm-like beings almost as if they were gods Elemental energies still spread throughout the world and Asurei still tainted the atmosphere, so the elves would continue to diverge and gain their own distinct adaptations and appearances to their lands until few resembled the Solarians, Lunarisians, and Urthalisans of the past(except Yūregians and Föllen Alatsans still looked mostly like Lunarisians since they didn't need to change much) However, as thousands of years passed and each kingdom gained their separate identities, they would forget their blood ties from the ages long past to reach for individual futures This would mark the start of the modern era, but also the start of war- a concept the elves had not contemplated since the Dak-Shan were defeated over eight hundred thousand years ago in the distant forgotten past.

Not Oversimplified Elvaria Lore- Part 2, Classical History(The Age of Shadows)

The Fall happened and now the empires have collapsed, and the continents have been fractured from the explosion's impact No celestial magic because the sky is covered in shit so now the elves are effectively cut out from using the majority of their abilities

So now what for them? 150,000 years of trying to cope and hopefully adapt to the new borderline radioactive-ish world, because as it turns out pure Asurei isn't totally poison and some people can adapt to it within a few generations Some people don't though, so of course more people die as the years go by So what's up with the isolated kingdom surrounded by storms? They still exist but are struggling, with Åsterlis having been split in half into Åsthenar and Fulegria They're lucky to still even exist considering they were right on the border of the blast zone Forgot to mention that one tribe that made it past the Dust Era, because Jukevor is now Jivankova and they're surprisingly doing fine since their magic doesn't draw from celestial energies

And now comes the fun part In those 150k years of darkness, elemental energy starts seeping into the world from a hidden realm, and elementals emerge from being attracted by the massive amounts of Asurei in the atmosphere The elementals have varying effects on the new continents, with their presence slowly but surely altering the biology of the elves to attune to the elements rather than to the distant sky The survivors of The Fall on those other continents slowly die out from the sudden presence of foreign energy that their bodies rejected, but some pockets of them actually did make it

With some elementals fusing with some of the pockets of elves, they resulted in the creation of half elves, or Elthir Fulegrians, Åsthenari, Jivankira, and Ligniar are the main ones that make it, becoming half elves of lightning, storm, air(ish), and coal Fulegria, though, doesn't benefit too much since now their land is becoming heavily electrified to the point of being borderline uninhabitable and forcing the inhabitants into an evolve or die situation

Certain individuals that fused with particularly powerful air elementals became something above an elf or half elf, and would later go under a different term(you'll hear of them in the Age of the New Kingdoms post) So what happens to the ones on the continent that doesn't have much elemental presence? It takes a lot longer to adapt since they have nothing to power them and need to reestablish order, with the final king of Lunaris living just long enough to create the new kingdom of Yūregina, the kingdom of shadows around 5.5k years after The Fall With time, some of the Lunarisians in Yūregina would figure out that Asurei does actually work with other aspects of the world, so now they can use shadow magic They also saw it as them embracing the dark side of the moons of Elvaria, as the light of their old kingdom has always had the potential to cast a shadow Yūregina stays intact and helps rebuild some semblance of civilization once the new Yūregians(the guys that figured shadow magic) got their shit together After 145k years of rebuilding and adapting(plus elemental energies do eventually make its way to the other continent so now people know what's up), the first ray of sunlight appears, heralding a new era In those 5k years after the first rays, the sky begins to clear up more and groups of survivors that didn't adapt to shadow magic would begin to sail out to the other continents And of course, if the dark can become power when fused with Asurei, so can the light, but no second Solaris will ever rise- that era ended long ago.

So instead, a new kingdom is formed on the land opposite to Yūregina's, marking the end of the Age of Shadows- Hikarina, the kingdom of the light, composed primarily of Solarian survivors that adapted to light magic.

Oversimplified-ish Elvaria Lore- Part 2, Classical History(Age of the Cycelian Empires)

We cut back to Elvaria lore where we ended off last time, being there's now whole ass kingdoms that are quickly becoming empires Big 3 are Solaris, kingdom of the sun, Lunaris, kingdom of the moon, and Urthalis, kingdom of the sunrise and sunset There's a 4th smaller kingdom that is on the same continent as Lunaris called Estellis, which is the kingdom of the stars There's also a massive storm in the center point of where all the continents would meet Remember the Åkthora? Yeah they're the ones that are living on a small floating set of islands surrounded by extreme storms, and now they're known as Åsterlis but still isolated Miners quickly discover veins of Asurei which are the energies that course through the world Golden Age incoming with breakthroughs in magic and practical application of Asurei into inventions, turns the big 3 kingdoms into empires Golden Age would become known as The Prosperous Gold or Golden Age of the Prosperity Technologically, the world would hit something similar to the 1990s Estellis was particularly advanced but hid their hyperadvanced shit underground after they found out about something they weren't supposed to

Estellans hit a technological point equivalent to the not so distant human future Asurei experiments start early on in the Prosperous Gold and continue for thousands of years Estellis is absorbed into Lunaris via treaty somewhere at the 50,000 year mark An organization called the Accord of Oracles rises into prominence as trusted aides of royalty, and the people in it are blessed(or cursed?) by otherworldly beings with control over time to give them foresight -Roughly 490,000 years of experiments and prosperity pass by until the oracles warn the empires of the end of their glory through an event that will come to be known as The Fall They warned them of the folly of careless experimentation and complacency with the world with no cautions, but at the meeting of the empires, they were written off as madmen The Empress of Urthalis completely disregarded the warnings as she believed that Urthalisan technology was flawless, and the suggest otherwise was a slight on her kingdom's intelligence The King of Solaris believed that the oracles had begun speaking nonsense and had lost their gifts, only becoming doomsayers to sow chaos among the rulership of the empires The King of Lunaris briefly considered the possibility that the warnings were true, but decided to write off his worries and trust in the judgement of his fellow monarchs The representatives with Lunaris that represented the old kingdom of Estellis would side with the oracles, not doubting the truth of their warnings

These representatives held no true power though, and ended up being removed from their positions by the judgement of the 3 monarchs under the reason of doubting the prowess of the empire and conspiracy. The Accord of Oracles was then forcefully dissolved and the Asurei experiments continued as those 10,000 years slowly ran their course, until that fateful day where an oversight in Urthalisan storage chamber systems caused pure Asurei energy to leak and then explode. These chambers were each roughly the size of a lake and were spread across and around the capital city of Urthalis, and the detonation of one set off all the others, creating a massive blast that would decimate roughly 6,300 km of land from the force alone The rings of destruction around it brought debris that rained down on many more people and choked the sky with dust and rubble, but what would kill the most people would be the Asurei contamination itself There was a good reason why the most potent Asurei ran deep within the group in veins and the commonly used Asurei was impure and in less concentrated amounts in the air, and that was because pure Asurei was pure poison and acted similar to radiation This would mark the end of the Prosperous Gold, and thus the empires fell in under a week, them now realizing too late that their mistake to not heed the words of the oracles was fatal This event would become known as The Fall from then on- the fall of the Cycelian empires and all they had worked for, and the fall of the people as the world descended into darkness and chaos- But this is not the end of Elvaria's story.

If you want names for the Proto-Elf magic tribes

This is completely irrelevant information tbh and I never made names for the non-magic tribes, only for the big 5 Åkthora- storm magic, they're one of the tribes that came out for the war against the Dak-Shan but went back into isolation when the war ended. Their descendant races still exist in the modern day Elvaria, still somewhat isolated and one is about to go extinct Nelthari- celestial magic(sun moon stars), one of the tribes that fought in the war and did not return to isolation so they could help build a civilization. Their descendant races are everywhere, like basically all of the non-Jukevor and Åkthora descendant races came from the Nelthari Invaêlka- never decided the type of magic but probably land(earth and plants) or element invocation, they fought in the war but went back into isolation and went extinct Salkaitha- never decided the type of magic, but probably very rudimentary animal speak and something related to telepathy/sound. They fought in the war but their shit sucked so they went extinct during it Jukevor- air/illusion magic, one of the tribes that did not fight in the war and stayed in isolation. Their descendant race still exists in the modern day Elvaria, still somewhat isolated

okay so may as well start with a very bad oversimplification of lore (Part 1, Dust Era)

Meteors hit desert world bringing good shit Life begins to evolve Lizards Lizards grow big Big lizards become drakes(dragon with no wings and chunky) Big lizard species splits at some point One wants to be bipedal, other wants to fly, third branch is fine with being as is A lot of time passes idfk how much I have no sense of time

Bipedal drakes become drakanoids that look kinda like elves Smart drakanoids are known as Proto-Elves

Flying family starts off with dragons, splits again One flying side is wyrms(arms are wings), one side remains as dragons A lot more time passes and now the Proto-Elves are more smart Some begin to form tribes and some of those tribes are now using very rudimentary magic No mages or anything yet, sorta like medicine men and shamans Those magic tribes start isolating themselves from the non-magic tribes Suddenly angry tree humanoids(treenoids? plantnoids?) called Dak-Shan spring from caves War breaks out and non-magic tribes are not doing so hot Some of the magic tribes emerge from hiding and their magic is like better but not super complex circles and shit Takes 10k years but turns out they're enough to drive back the Dak-Shan and now Proto-Elves can work on civilizations minus regular infighting More time passes(like say 100k years), the non-magic tribes either slowly die out or merged with the magic tribes Some of the magic tribes die out because they stayed isolated or some scuffle happened with borders Remaining tribes now have cities, and soon these cities will become kingdoms, and kingdoms to empires(10k year span)

Tales of Sawmill Main Character Basics

Starring characters for “Tales of Sawmill”, a prequel series to “Tales of Well”! It takes place at Sawmill (duh) between 1983 and 1988 (aka: between the hiring of Team Garrison’s BLU Spy [Spy from “Tales of Well”] and the transfer to Teufort). It started out as my self-indulgent little TF2 shipping haven that was technically part of my “Tales” canon—just a place for fluff and smut for pairings that I want to write that aren’t present in “Tales of Well”—but then they guys just kept growing and growing, and now they’ve got their own little plotlines and dramas that are going to have to become actual fic at some point or else my head will explode.

It’s turning out to be a lot more… dramatic than “Tales of Well”, what little I’ve already got—I’ve mostly just got character details and plot bunnies for the primary pairs (and threesome) so far. The blurbs and ideas I do have ping pong between the fluffiest of fluffy feel-good smut, and moments that I don’t want to write because I just know they’re gonna make me cry. There’s actual, permanent character death planned, and I don’t wanna D: But I gotta, or, y’know, head explosion. Big mess. Don’t want to have to clean that up.

Just gonna put up some character basics for now, since I do want to keep my focus fixed on ToW and there’s not much actually written for Sawmill prose-wise yet. I like having these little blurbs up, though, for my own reference if nothing else (the info collected here is spread across about six Google Docs and trying to find specifics quickly can be… trying). There are a lot of characters, though. *quickly counts* Fourteen. There are fourteen characters… And they’re just the important ones so far; there are more that’re still cooking… (omfg I have a problem…) Almost all of them are BLU and there are lots of Scouts; I like BLU and Scouts, so sue me :P Not all of the characters are involved in pairings, but almost half of them are; relationships (romantic and otherwise) will be noted. Also, the Sawmill vets among the “Tales of Well” mercs are, obviously, also present in “Tales of Sawmill”; they’re included here if they have their own important storylines/pairings.

Long, long, loooooong character infodump under the cut! Enjoy!

——

Note: The mercs at Sawmill go by nicknames/“codenames”, rather than class names, since there are multiple members of almost every class at any one time.

Note 2: Bios are timed from the beginning of “Tales of Sawmill” (February 19, 1983). Characters will die/retire and be replaced throughout the course of the stories. Replacements will have their status noted in “Time w/ [BLU/RED]”. Italicized refers to significant in-timeline changes (including deaths and recruitments; usually mentioned in-story).

BLU - Team Stronghold

Chicken

Name: Christopher Thomas Clark Class: Scout Age: 21 Nationality: American (Pennsylvania [Philadelphia]) Time w/ BLU: 14 months Date of Death/Retirement: Dies August 3, 1986 [fatal respawn error: respawn and medigun healing become gradually less effective]

Height: 5’7 Hair: Red, growing-out buzz cut with fringe Eye Colour: Light brown Skin Tone: Pale Caucasian Build: Slim Scars: Knife wound (forehead, over left eye), gunshot wound (right hip), ring wound (nose, left side of bridge) Other Distinguishing Features: Crooked nose (broken and healed crooked)

Uniform Cosmetics: Wooden cross pendant around neck, Troublemaker’s Tossle Cap, Digit Divulger, Thermal Tracker, Blizzard Britches Favoured Weapon: Boston Basher, Bonk! when available

Relationships: Shades - romantic, sexual (secret); Stitch - friendship; Preacher - friendship; Stretch - friendship; Smoke - intense dislike

Named for his favourite game: chicken. He particularly likes playing it with sentries and Übered Heavies. He’s one of the only Scouts that it would be worthwhile for a Medic to Übercharge.

Violent sleeper. Kicks and punches in his sleep. Shades has pretty much gotten used to being used as a punching bag whenever he and Chicken share a bed.

Arachnophobic. Like, jump on a chair and scream until his boyfriend kills the eight-legged demon arachnophobic. Despite their relationship, he will avoid visiting Shades in the Snipers’ nest unless he can be assured that there are absolutely no spiders hiding out there.

Stitch(es)

Name: Spencer Allan Devaro Class: Scout Age: 19 Nationality: American (New York [Manhattan]) Time w/ BLU: 5 months Date of Death/Retirement: Retires September 19, 1987

Height: 5’9 Hair: Auburn, crew cut Eye Colour: Green Skin Tone: Caucasian Build: Thin Scars: Appendectomy, childhood/adolescent injuries (both knees), shrapnel wound (right forearm) Other Distinguishing Features: Freckles (across nose and cheeks)

Uniform Cosmetics: Triple Jumper Favoured Weapon: Pretty Boy’s Pocket Pistol

Relationships: Chicken - friendship; Smoke - friendship; Tats - friendship

[Former RP character repurposed for fic.]

Father, with a three year old daughter at home. He’s utterly devoted to her, and will gush about her to anyone who doesn’t tell him to shut up (think a younger, less tragic Maes Hughes from FMA).

Likes sewing and knitting in his spare time. He makes stuffed animals to send home to his daughter (and to give to the Pyros), and scarves, socks, and sweaters for his teammates.

Super friendly; honestly, probably too friendly for mercenary work. He hates having to hurt people and tries to avoid fighting if possible, instead focusing on match objectives. If forced into a confrontation, he’ll try his damnedest to score headshots to keep it as short and (relatively) painless as possible.

Tats

Name: Benjamin Alexander Creighan Class: Scout Age: 25 Nationality: American (Illinois [Chicago]) Time w/ BLU: Hired August 18, 1986 [replacing Chicken] Date of Death/Retirement: [Post-ToS] Medically discharged May 22, 1989 [permanent respawn error: loses left arm to the elbow]

Height: 6’2 Hair: Dirty blond, fade Eye Colour: Brown Skin Tone: Lightly tanned Caucasian Build: Slim, broad-shouldered and -chested, defined arms, defined legs, six-pack abs, defined pectorals Scars: N/A Other Distinguishing Features: Tattoo sleeve: spilled shot glass transitioning into stylized alleyways transitioning into running track, running silhouette at intervals (back of left hand and full left arm to shoulder [running track begins at elbow]), peacock feather tattoo (right wing of clavicle), wing tattoos (one on outside of each ankle, extending up and back onto calf), “Born to Run” tattoo (upper back, shoulder blade to shoulder blade), Scout class emblem tattoo (upper right arm), dog tags with red rubber silencers (left wing of clavicle) [after Chew’s death]

Uniform Cosmetics: Thrilling Tracksuit, Rotation Sensation, Hot Heels Favoured Weapon: Baby Face’s Blaster

Relationships: Chew - rivalry, sexual, romantic; Stitch - friendship; Mouse - friendship; Smoke - dislike

Fit. He’s not bulky, but he’s got more muscle and is far more toned than the majority of Scouts; he has washboard abs, and (if I may be crude for a moment) an ass you could bounce quarters off of. He works out religiously, at least an hour a day, and is very particular about what he eats (no junk food; he doesn’t even use Bonk when he starts getting it).

Former teenage alcoholic. His high school track coach helped him get sober and in shape, and he hasn’t touched a drop since. He also doesn’t smoke and hates being around anyone who is smoking (he spends a lot of time out of the base to keep away from the Spies).

Acts stand-offish and aloof, but is unfailingly loyal and devoted to anyone he considers a friend. He’s tough to get close to, but once he lets someone in, he’ll do anything for them and be there for them through anything.

Mouse

Name: Liam Elijah Forester Class: Scout Age: 22 Nationality: American (California [Long Beach]) Time w/ RED: Hired January 30, 1987 Date of Death/Retirement: [Post-ToS] Retires February 3, 1992 [Teufort transfer]

Height: 5’5 Hair: Blond, short, messy Eye Colour: Blue Skin Tone: Tanned Caucasian [grows paler as time goes on] Build: Slim Scars: Dual subcutaneous mastectomy, gunshot wound (neck, left side) Other Distinguishing Features: N/A

Uniform Cosmetics: Weight Room Warmer, Brooklyn Booties, California Cap Favoured Weapon: Atomizer

Relationships: Bear - romantic; Taube - romantic; Smoke - strong dislike, becomes hatred [after being outed]

Transmasc. Gets T shots from Taube, and has had top surgery, but not bottom. Isn’t out (at first), except to Taube and Bear.

Rokitansky’s (Taube’s pet dove) favourite person aside from Taube himself. He likes to sit on top of Mouse’s head whenever he visits the Infirmary, and Mouse is the only person who can get away with calling him “Rocky” in Taube’s hearing.

Misses California terribly. He hates the cold and wet at Sawmill (and the snow in the winter, like wtf is that shit), and being so far from the ocean just feels weird. He tends to stick close to Bear on colder days (Bear’s like a walking furnace), and he has a tape of wave sounds that he listens to to help him fall asleep.

Bear

Name: Matvei Nikolai Antonov Class: Heavy Age: 36 Nationality: Russian Time w/ BLU: Hired October 25, 1986 Date of Death/Retirement: N/A [Teufort transfer; Well transfer]

Height: 6’3 Hair: Bald Eye Colour: Light brown Skin Tone: Lightly-tanned Caucasian Build: Overweight, well-defined arms Scars: Bullet wound (upper right arm), bullet wound (right shoulder, front and back) Other Distinguishing Features: Perpetual five o’clock shadow

Uniform Cosmetics: Combat Slacks Favoured Weapon: Natascha

Relationships: Taube - romantic, sexual; Mouse - romantic

Quiet and intellectual; he and Taube play chess nightly and fully half of the literature in the Infirmary is Bear’s. Still more than willing to crack open a beer with the Engies and Snipers and shoot the shit, though, or down a fifth of vodka with the Scouts and start tossing them around (all in the name of fun, of course. Usually).

Big dude. His nickname is an apt description of him, at least physically. He’s definitely carrying more weight than he should (especially around his gut), but there’s a lot of muscle under the fat. He uses the Twins [Scouts, not listed] as dumbbells when they start annoying him.

Intensely protective of his teammates, especially Taube and Mouse. He takes the role of meat shield in battle seriously and gladly, and has a higher than average number of respawns for a Heavy as a result.

Smoke(stack)

Name: Leland Hugh Wilson Class: Engineer Age: 43 Nationality: American (Alabama [Mobile])  Time w/ BLU: 2 years, 3 months Date of Death/Retirement: Retires November 23, 1987

Height: 5’10 Hair: Dirty blond, high and tight, receding hairline Eye Colour: Brown Skin Tone: Tanned Caucasian (farmer’s tan) Build: Stocky, broad-shouldered and -chested Scars: Knife wound (upper back, left of spine), shrapnel wounds (left forearm, scattering of 7, 1 larger near elbow) Other Distinguishing Features: Skull smoking a cigarette tattoo (left ankle, outside)

Uniform Cosmetics: Blue camouflage bandana (tied around neck), Antarctic Researcher, Lawnmaker (Job version) Favoured Weapon: Southern Hospitality

Relationships: Chicken - hatred; Tats - intense dislike; Mouse - hatred [after learning he’s trans]; Bear - dislike; Taube - dislike; Spook - dislike

[Former RP character repurposed for fic.]

Bigoted asshole. Racist, sexist, and homophobic. Hates on principle anyone who isn’t a white American cisgendered heterosexual male, and he’s not afraid to use every nasty name in the book on someone who doesn’t fall into that category.

Smokes more than the Spies. He always has a cigarette unless he’s eating, sleeping, or showering. Chicken tried hiding his smokes once; Smoke made sure he never did again.

Fought in Vietnam as an engineer with the United States Marine Corps. The shrapnel scars in his left arm are from a grenade, and they go deep; his left hand is noticeably weaker than his right.

Hercules

Name: Evangelos Hadrian Levandakis Class: Engineer Age: 34 Nationality: Greek (Athens) Time w/ BLU: 2 years, 1 month Date of Death/Retirement: Dies July 12, 1985 [respawn failure after being killed during ceasefire by Convict]

Height: 6’2 Hair: Dark brown, crew cut, slight receding hairline Eye Colour: Dark blue Skin Tone: Olive Build: Well-muscled, broad-shouldered and -chested Scars: Machining accident (right hand, back) Other Distinguishing Features: Birthmark (back, right shoulder blade, roughly apple-sized)

Uniform Cosmetics: Builder’s Blueprints, Dogfighter, Winter Backup, Hazard Handler Favoured Weapon: N/A [see below]

Relationships: Spook - romantic, sexual

[Former RP character repurposed for fic.]

Hercules is as pacifistic as it is possible for a mercenary to be. He refuses to use conventional guns, even in defense of his own life, and prefers to avoid building sentires, focusing instead on teleporters and dispensers, unless his teammates really want more sentries down than Smoke can provide.

Former bodybuilder, and still in phenomenal shape. It’s all working muscle, too, not just for show—his strength is on par with most Heavies.

Loves to cook, especially Greek food. He makes special grocery orders for almost every supply day, and there’s usually a plate of dolmades, spanakopita, or tzatziki and pita wedges in the BLU kitchen for folks to snack on throughout the day during ceasefire.

Preacher

Name: Tobias Fredrik Lindberg Class: Medic Age: 59 Nationality: Swedish Time w/ BLU: 3 years, 1 month Date of Death/Retirement: Retires January 20, 1987

Height: 5’10 Hair: Greying brown Eye Colour: Blue Skin Tone: Pale Caucasian Build: Average, broad-shouldered Scars: N/A Other Distinguishing Features: N/A

Uniform Cosmetics: Golden cross pendant and chain around neck, Surgeon’s Side Satchel, Vicar’s Vestments, Field Practice Favoured Weapon: Crusader’s Crossbow

Relationships: Team Stronghold (entire) - officerial; Chicken - paternal

Team Stronghold’s leader until his retirement. Takes his position very seriously, and does his best to look after the mental and physical health of the team, sometimes to the detriment of his own.

Ordained priest. Is always willing to provide a confidential listening ear and moral or spiritual comfort or advice to the team. Chicken is a frequent partaker (he’s one of the only openly religious mercs), and Preacher will always make time for him.

Was an infantryman, then chaplain, with the Swedish Army during World War 2. He has excellent aim with his crossbow and can be a ferocious battle-Medic when the situation calls for it, though he definitely prefers healing to hurting.

Taube

Name: Luis Armin Huber Class: Medic Age: 51 Nationality: Austrian Time w/ BLU: Hired January 11, 1986 Date of Death/Retirement: N/A [Teufort transfer; Well transfer]

Height: 5’10 Hair: Grey Eye Colour: Blue Skin Tone: Pale Caucasian Build: Average, broad-shouldered and -chested Scars: N/A Other Distinguishing Features: N/A

Uniform Cosmetics: Medic’s Mountain Cap, Surgeon’s Stethoscope Favoured Weapon: Medi Gun

Relationships: Bear - romantic, sexual; Mouse - romantic

Brought Rokitansky (his pet turtle dove) from home and allows him free rein of the Infirmary unless there’s an actual procedure being performed. Loves all birds, but especially doves and corvids (crows, ravens, etc).

Initially attached himself to Bear because Bear provided good cover; Taube hates getting shot. Their relationship evolves very quickly, however. Taube is impressed by Bear’s intellect and strength, and theirs is one of the few long-lasting, truly loving relationships at Sawmill (and Teufort, and Well).

Has a quiet, but deep, love of woodworking, especially furniture-making and detail work. He built and carved his own desk in the Infirmary, as well as a pair of rocking chairs and Rokitansky’s cage (basically a 5’x2’ birdhouse with barred walls). He also builds a pigeon coop for the pigeons and doves that hang around Sawmill, where they can safely roost and get an easy meal.

Shades

Name: Noble Cedric Taylor Class: Sniper Age: 29 Nationality: Australian (New South Wales [Sydney]) Time w/ BLU: 2 years, 1 month Date of Death/Retirement: Goes MIA October 14, 1987

Height: 6’3 Hair: Dirty blond, growing out crew cut Eye Colour: Blue-grey Skin Tone: Tanned Caucasian Scars:  Respawn error: knife wound (“Sniper scar”: left cheekbone and side of left nostril), knife wound (neck, right side) Other Distinguishing Features: Short goatee

Uniform Cosmetics: Bare Necessities, Rugged Rags Favoured Weapon: Sniper Rifle

Relationships: Chicken - romantic, sexual (secret); Stretch - friendship

Suffers from severe depressive disorder, and is being provided medication by BLU. He doesn’t like taking it, though; he doesn’t want to put up with the side-effects. Preacher and Chicken frequently try to convince him to take it, with varying degrees of success.

Sunglasses are prescription, and he almost never takes them off. He’s badly near-sighted; he can barely see anything more than two feet away without his sunglasses.

Prefers to be alone. Practically lives in the Snipers’ nest, a large elevated hunter’s blind at the edge of the forest behind the BLU barracks, even during winter. He’s rarely seen around the base for more than a few minutes at a time, usually just long enough to shower or grab some food before he’s gone again.

Stretch

Name: Peter Michael Allen Class: Sniper Age: 28 Nationality: Australian (Northern Territory [primarily Outback]) Time w/ BLU: 18 months Date of Death/Retirement: N/A [Teufort transfer; Well transfer]

Height: 6’5 Hair: Dark brown, short mullet (chin length), long sideburns Eye Colour: Dark blue Skin Tone: Well-tanned Caucasian Build: Thin, broad-shouldered Scars: Dingo bite (right calf), respawn error: knife wound (“Sniper scar”: left cheekbone and side of left nostril), kukri wound (upper right abdomen), knife wound (back of neck, spine) Other Distinguishing Features: Perpetual five o’clock shadow

Uniform Cosmetics: Triggerman’s Tacticals, Conspicuous Camouflage, Itsy Bitsy Spyer (blue doll [after name exchange with Spook]) Favoured Weapon: Sniper Rifle

Relationships: Chicken - friendship; Hercules - friendship; Shades - friendship; Spook - friendship/heterosexual life partnership; Team Stronghold (entire) - officerial [after Preacher’s retirement]

More open to hanging out with the rest of the team than most Snipers, and spends most of his free time around base, even if he’s just cleaning his guns or reading. Easy to talk to, and on friendly terms with pretty much everyone on the team even if he doesn’t outright consider them friends. He cares for them all a great deal and does his best to look after them, both on and off the field, whether they realize (or want) it or not.

Loves wildlife in all its forms. He keeps peanuts, sunflower seeds, and other little snacks on him at all times to feed to the various birds, rodents, reptiles, and other creatures that fill the forest around Sawmill. He also loves spiders, and will go out of his way to avoid breaking webs that he finds and drop off little insect treats when he can.

Hates the overabundance of low door frames and archways around Sawmill. He frequently finds himself losing his hat during matches when it gets knocked off by a low door frame [he does eventually get a string to hold it on], and has smacked his forehead off of some of the shortest ones more often than he’d like to admit.

Spook(y)

Name: [REDACTED] Class: Spy Age: 31 Nationality: (Assumed) French Time w/ BLU: Hired February 19, 1983 Date of Death/Retirement: N/A [Teufort transfer; Well transfer]

Height: 5’8 Hair: Light brown, short side part, widow’s peak Eye Colour: Light grey Skin Tone: Pale Caucasian Build: Slender Scars: Gunshot wound (lower left abdomen), kukri wound (upper back, top of right shoulder blade to bottom left shoulder blade) Other Distinguishing Features: N/A

Uniform Cosmetics: Le Professionnel (turtleneck version) Favourite Weapon: Knife

Relationships: Convict - sexual, becomes hatred; Hercules - romantic, sexual; Stretch - friendship/heterosexual life partnership; Beau [RED Spy, not listed] - rivalry, romantic, sexual

Needs to know everything that is happening with absolutely everyone at all times. Will hoard his “intel” (on both teammates and opponents) as jealously as a squirrel hoarding nuts, and doesn’t consider himself above the occasional blackmail or manipulation if he feels a situation warrants it (usually when he really wants something from someone, or they really piss him off).

Does his best to keep himself immaculately clean and presentable at all times. He despises the amount of mud at Sawmill, and will take teleporters and rooftop pathways to move across the battlefield as often as humanly possible.

Very stealth focused, both during fights and ceasefire. Especially after he gets his Cloak and Dagger [about a year into his contract], he spends a great deal of his time around base cloaked; it gives him an unreasonable amount of pleasure to literally appear out of nowhere and scare the crap out of his teammates.

RED - Team Redoubt

Chew

Name: Kenneth Richard Green Class: Scout Age: 22 Nationality: English (Nottingham) Time w/ RED: Hired September 10, 1983 Date of Death/Retirement: Dies March 10, 1987 [fatal respawn error]

Height: 5’8 Hair: Light brown, fade Eye Colour: Light brown Skin Tone: Pale Caucasian Build: Thin Scars: Gunshot wound (left lower abdomen) Other Distinguishing Features: Chipped right front tooth (upper)

Uniform Cosmetics: Rubber silencers on dog tags (alternates between red, black, and white), Crimbo Cap, Delinquent’s Down Vest Favoured Weapon: Cricket bat [speciality weapon]

Relationships: Tats - rivalry, sexual, romantic

Major oral fixation. Chews his nails, chews gum, chews his dog tags, chews anything. He started getting silencers for his tags after he chipped his tooth on them. He also smokes, more for the sensation and out of habit than for the nicotine.

The only non-American Scout, and frequently takes shit for it. He doesn’t take it lying down, though; he’s more than happy to prove that his cricket bat hits just as hard as any of the Yanks’ baseball bats, and that a cricket ball to the face hurts a Hell of a lot more than a baseball.

Insanely competitive. Will take anything that offers even the slightest hint of a challenge and turn it into a contest that he fully intends to win, even if he has absolutely no chance of doing so. Has been on the losing side of multiple drinking contests with the Demos, and even more sparring matches with the Heavies and Soldiers.

Convict

Name: Hollis Jacob Colling Class: Sniper Age: 23 Nationality: Australian Time w/ RED: Hired September 3, 1984 Date of Death/Retirement: N/A [Teufort transfer; Well transfer]

Height: 6’2 Hair: Brown, short, messy Eye Colour: Brown Skin Tone: Well-tanned Caucasian Build: Thin, broad-shouldered Scars: Respawn error: knife wound (“Sniper scar”: left cheekbone and side of left nostril), knife wound (back, right shoulder), knife wound (torso, left pectoral to navel) Other Distinguishing Features: N/A

Uniform Cosmetics: Villain’s Veil, Crocodile Smile, Brim-Full of Bullets  Favoured Weapon: Huntsman

Relationships: Spook - sexual, becomes hatred

Ruthless and violently cruel to both enemies and allies. He can be charismatically manipulative if there’s something he wants, but he prefers using violence and pain to get results whenever he can.

Spends most of his free time on his own, usually out in the forest around the base. He has his own nest (aside from the Snipers’ nest that “came with” the base), deeper in the forest, and he’s been known to violently repel anyone, friend or foe, who approaches it.

Hates being rejected or told “no”, and will hold a grudge ’til the end of time. A quick way to make it onto his hit list is to stand in direct opposition to him getting what he wants.

Post-"Tales of Well" Longfic Basics

Premise and some lore and characters for longfics that will follow the end of Tales of Well. However many one-shots Tales of Well ends up being. Honestly, shorts will probably keep being added even after the longfics are done as inspiration strikes me, until I fill out as much in-universe time as is possible within the fics’ timeline. I’m loving writing about these characters; they’re honestly some of the favourite OCs that I’ve created over the years. I just wish my non-fandom OCs and their stories could hook me as hard D:

Anyway, longfics! Both will be more dramatic and serious in tone than the majority of the one-shots, though I’ll do my damnedest to keep them from getting downright depressing. First is “On the Run”, which will directly tie into TF2 canon and feature (*hides face*) canon characters. Honestly, that’s the most intimidating part of writing this one: actually making sure I don’t completely destroy the canon characters that show up.

The second longfic is “Great White North”, and will have even more OCs! (I have a problem please help me…) Will still tie in with canon, though it’ll shift to the back burner a bit. There’s more “lore” behind this one, and a bunch of new additions to the cast :) It’s also the one I’m more excited to write, so it’s more fleshed out (and takes up the majority of this post o.o).

Infodump under the cut! Enjoy!

Tales of Well: On the Run

Premise

After years of growing steadily more and more disillusioned with the RED/BLU “war”, and multiple unsuccessful attempts, the BLU Spy and Wrenches (the RED Engineer) finally manage to break open the intelligence briefcases. Inside are samples of a strange, glowing liquid element, unnerving medical and technical reports, and reams of classified documents that shed an uncomfortable light on the reasons the mercenaries are fighting.

They had been told they were being hired to “test new weaponry and battlefield technologies”. What they hadn’t been told was that every moment of their lives under RED and BLU’s employ had been watched, recorded, and neatly packaged for the amusement of wealthy investors… and the morbid satisfaction of the Administrator, one “F.P.”. Every triumph, every trauma, every private moment over their years of fighting: it had all been on display for countless strangers, a violent, candid soap opera to entertain the rich and unscrupulous.

Aside from gaining this unsettling knowledge, there is another, more pressing consequence to opening the intel: both teams have been marked for immediate termination. The mercenaries are forced to flee for their lives, with robot "termination teams" hot on their heels. They decide to take out the snake at the head, and set course for TF Industries HQ for the fight of their lives.

——

Great White North

Premise

[Spoilers for the end of “On the Run”, I guess lol]

Having barely escaped the Administrator and her minions by the skin of their teeth, with the aid of Olivia Mann and former members of Team Fortress, the runaway mercs take Olivia’s suggestion to change targets, and go after what the Administrator really cares about: Canadium. The strange element only found over the northern border has been being mined, experimented with, and jealously guarded by the Administrator, for reasons the mercs are only just beginning to understand.

Olivia puts the Well mercenaries in contact with Team Great White North, former TF Industries mercs who (with Olivia’s help) have been working to wrest TF Industries’ massive Canadium stockpiles out of the Administrator’s hands. Together, they may be able to put an end to the Administrator, and, hopefully, the entire pointless, endless RED/BLU war.

Lore

Canadium: In its basic state, Canadium is a transparent, faintly glowing red-and-white liquid roughly the same viscosity as maple syrup. It remains in a liquid state at room temperature and solidifies at -30 degrees Celsius into maple leaf-shaped crystals that have roughly the same hardness as quartz. It is extremely difficult to provoke a chemical reaction from Canadium, but reactions are often exceptionally violent when they do occur.

Canadium shares many of the effects of Australium, and has a few unique features of its own. It does not extend life to the extent Australium does, but it increases general health and hardiness exponentially, and can revive the recently deceased. Signs of prolonged exposure include increased politeness and tolerance of others, a love of fighting and drinking, and increased muscle mass. Heavily exposed men also have their chest hair grow in a maple leaf pattern. There are different varieties of Canadium, depending on where in Canada it was found, and the degree of the effects of exposure varies between the different types (Rocky Mountain Canadium gives greater muscle mass, Maritime Canadium increases love of fighting, Quebec Canadium [blue-and-white rather than red-and-white] increases love drinking, etc).

[Originally, it was just pure self-indulgence having the new "magic element" being from my home country, so I'd have an excuse to make an all-Canuck mercenary team. In doing research for ToW, though, I saw something from the Engineer Update background art that made me very happy:

Post-"Tales Of Well" Longfic Basics

So yeah, I am 100% latching on to one tiny little piece of background art as an excuse to expand on my self-indulgent integration of Canada to the TF2 universe! I know it's only talking about gold, but I'm going to ride this little bit of background art straight into Hell!]

Team Great White North

Originally formed to defend TF Industries’ largest Canadium stockpile without being told exactly what they were guarding, but the mercs broke their contracts and went into hiding after discovering it and what the Administrator was using it for. Olivia Mann offered to help them hide from the Administrator and her robots in exchange for help siphoning off the Administrator’s stockpiles, and she provided them with a hideout “base” in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. They have been performing smash and grab raids for a little more than a year before being joined by the Well mercs.

Nick: Scout. 24 year old male. City kid from Toronto. Uses a lacrosse stick instead of a baseball bat. Really likes his hats; has several “favourite” toques that he cycles through.

Danny: Scout. 22 year old male. City kid from Halifax. Uses a hockey stick instead of a baseball bat, and wears a hockey helmet in fights. Missing left lateral incisor.

Colin: Demoman. 23 year old male. Cape Bretoner (L’Ardoise). Friendly, as long as you don’t take away his booze. Makes grenades out of empty Moosehead beer cans.

Hank: Heavy. 36 year old male. Team leader. Lumberjack from northern BC. Wears plaid flannel and uses a big axe. Married to Madeleine.

Quinten: Engineer. 25 year old male. Third-generation Japanese-Canadian from Vancouver. Alvin’s son, not happy his father joined the team with him. Total sci-fi and computer geek. Dating Marshall behind Alvin's back.

Kacey: Engineer. 24 year old female. Half-Mi’kmaq, Haligonian. Full name is Kimberly Cecilia, but she hates it, so she just goes by Kacey. Big sister to the younger guys on the team, especially Colin.

Alvin: Medic. 53 year old male. Second-generation Japanese-Canadian from Vancouver. Quinten’s father, joined the team with him to keep an eye on him and keep him safe. Uses the “Healing Hands” rather than a medigun: gloves that, when activated, heal on contact.

Marshall: Sniper. 28 year old male. Rancher from Alberta, not far from Calgary. Was kicked in the head by a horse when he was sixteen, is still a little “goofy” as a result (has some minor brain damage that mostly manifests in excessive cheeriness, lapses in attention, poor impulse control, and “rage blackouts” when provoked). Uses a modified cattle-prod as a melee weapon. Dating Quinten behind Alvin's back.

Madeleine: Spy. 35 year old female. Quebecois. Former CSIS recon officer, and cat burglar. Wears a white pant suit, a white fedora with a red band, a red domino mask, and a red scarf. Married to Hank.

Main Character Bios & Info

Bios for the main focus characters (BLU Scout, Pyro, Sniper, and Spy, and RED Scout, Engineer, and Sniper), with some extra random info for each! This is all info from the beginning of the series (unless otherwise noted), so some things are likely to change over the course of the shorts, but this is a little look at who the guys are when we first meet them :) Looong infodump under the cut! Enjoy!

——

BLU Scout (“Blue”)

Name: Aiden Marcus Knight Age: 23 Nationality: American (Massachusetts [Boston]) Time w/ BLU: 13 months

Height: 5’11 Hair: Light brown, crew cut Eye Colour: Hazel Skin Tone: Tanned Caucasian Build: Slim, broad-shouldered, defined legs Scars: Respawn error: axe wound (left side, abdomen, and back; inward to navel/spine [lowest two ribs are artificial]), bonesaw wound (right pectoral), kukri wound (left collarbone), gunshot wound (center sternum), gunshot wound (back, right shoulder), appendectomy, childhood injury (left calf) Other Distinguishing Features: N/A

Uniform Cosmetics: Ball-Kicking Boots, Track Terrorizer (After Eight), Backwards Ballcap (Air of Debonair) Typical Weapon Loadout: Scattergun, Bonk! (when available) or Pistol, Sandman

Likes: Sketching, painting (esp. graffiti/tagging), running, brawling, baseball (Red Sox fan), comic books (primarily Marvel, esp. Spider-Man), cartoons (esp. Looney Tunes and TMNT) Dislikes: Doctors, being ignored, being called stupid, being called gay Fears: Merinthophobia (fear of being bound/tied up, esp. his limbs [severe enough to induce debilitating panic attacks]), mild claustrophobia Habits: Fidgets, chews nails Disorders/Medical Conditions: Dyslexia, potential (very-probable) ADHD

Extra Facts:

Has eight older brothers, and he’s used to having to be the loudest—and most obnoxiously tactless and offensive—person in the room in order to make himself heard. It’s a habit he still hasn’t shed after over a year working as a mercenary, much to his teammates’ chagrin.

Generally, the only time he’ll willingly sit still for any stretch is when he’s drawing, whether it’s in a sketchbook or when he’s making a graffiti stencil. If forced to sit still and there’s any paper in reach, he’ll doodle to keep himself entertained (he always has at least a stubby pencil in his pocket) until the paper runs out. Then he starts getting annoying.

Surprisingly naïve for his age, and willfully ignorant of any topic that doesn’t catch his interest; if something doesn’t immediately hook him, he’s not going to engage. This, combined with his general lack of “book-smarts” (he dropped out of high school at sixteen instead of having to repeat grade ten; Ma was not happy), tends to lead to him being a colossal dumbass sometimes most of the time [he wasn’t supposed to be as stupid as he is, honest…].

Brawler. Prefers close combat to gunplay nine times out of ten; his Sandman is his favourite weapon, though if he gets really carried away, he’ll just start going at it with his fists. He loves the adrenaline rush of getting in a good punch to the face, or getting clocked himself.

Has an ungodly amount of energy, and puts most of it to work pestering and pissing off his teammates. Anything he can say or do to push someone’s buttons, he’ll say or do without hesitation. Aside from his general motor-mouthed offensiveness, he’s a big fan of pranking the team to the point that even Engie will have steam coming from his ears, and when he gets his monthly supply of Bonk, it gets easily a million times worse.

Really does care about (most of) his teammates, even if he is a complete jackass more often than not, and the affection is (mostly) returned, though he may not believe it so much. In the Team Garrison “family”, he’s definitely the annoying little brother, or unruly child, to the rest of the men.

Surprisingly friendly with Spy, to absolutely everyone’s shock; Spy is actually likely his closest friend on the team. Even though Spy spends a lot of his time “sitting around being boring”, Blue likes talking with him and tends to actively harass him less than the others.

Heavily repressed bisexual. Everyone else knows he’s at least a little into guys (he’s not nearly as subtle as he thinks he is), but he will loudly and vehemently—and sometimes violently—deny it if confronted.

——

BLU Pyro

Name: Guillermo “Billy” José Soto Age: 20 Nationality: Mexican (Santa Ana) Time w/ BLU: 12 months

Height: 5’9 Hair: Black, chin length, long bangs Eye Colour: Brown Skin Tone: Pale tan Build: Underweight, defined arms Scars: Third-degree burn (left arm, elbow to shoulder; left side, mid-ribs to armpit; back, left side, mid-back to upper shoulder; neck, left side; left cheek from jaw to cheekbone [primarily hypertrophic scarring, some contracture on left shoulder]) Other Distinguishing Features: N/A

Uniform Cosmetics: Pin-on button (“Born to Fry Spies”), Scorched Earth Stompers, Pyromancer’s Hood [received “Little Moments: Supply Day”], Firebrand [received around “Breakfast”] Typical Weapon Loadout: Flame Thrower, Flare Gun, Fire Axe

Likes: Fire, rock music (esp. Pink Floyd, Queen, and Santana), playing guitar, animals (esp. birds and reptiles), privacy, being alone Dislikes: His scar, his voice, Spies, being cold, the f-slur (and the various derivatives Blue comes up with) Fears: Suffocation, drowning Habits: Playing with lighters/lighting matches Disorders/Medical Conditions: Mild pyromania

Extra Facts:

Received his scar when he was fifteen, when he was trapped (along with his cousin and some friends) in a garage that was set on fire by some gangsters his cousin owed money to. A burning piece of the roof fell on his back and shoulder, and the scarring there is deeper; he has next to no sensation there and he’s lost some of his shoulder flexibility due to the tightness of the scarring. When he was nineteen, he set the house of one of the gangsters on fire, with the gangster and his family inside. They all managed to get out, but Billy was arrested for arson and attempted murder, and picked up by BLU while on trial.

Due to damage to his throat when he was burned, his voice sounds like he’s been smoking a pack a day since he was five: it is very deep, and gravelly. He hates how it sounds, and, along with his scar, it’s a major reason he keeps his mask on so much.

Major introvert. Spends most of his free time in his room, or out in the backyard burning things. He does make fairly regular visits to Engie in his workshop, but he rarely spends time with anyone else on the team. Even on the rare occasions that he hangs out in the rec room instead of his bedroom, he’ll usually rebuff attempts at conversation unless it’s about something important (or especially interesting).

Fluent in English, but can have trouble with vocabulary sometimes, especially if it’s not a word he comes across often. Part of the reason he enjoys spending so much time with Engie is that Engie can understand Spanish, as well as speak it a little, so he’s able to talk to someone in his mother tongue.

Has a massive collection of records, cassette tapes, and CDs; he’s almost always listening to something when he’s in his room. He also has a big box of mix-tapes that he’s created over the past year; he’s made a few for Engie and Medic, too.

Openly gay, though not everyone’s realized, so far. It’s not a topic that tends to come up a lot on the rare occasions anyone can corner him for a chat. Engie is aware—and doesn’t care, so long as it’s not being shoved in his face—as are Medic and Heavy. Spy also knows, though not because Pyro told him; Spy just sussed it out on his own.

——

BLU Sniper

Name: Peter Michael Allen Age: 38 Nationality: Australian (Northern Territory [primarily Outback]) Time w/ BLU: 11 years, 3 months [Sawmill vet; longest-serving merc]

Height: 6’5 Hair: Dark brown, short, messy, long sideburns Eye Colour: Dark blue Skin Tone: Well-tanned Caucasian Build: Thin, broad-shouldered Scars: Respawn error: knife wound (“Sniper scar”: left cheekbone and side of left nostril), kukri wound (upper right abdomen), knife wound (back of neck, spine), dingo bite (right calf) Other Distinguishing Features: Perpetual five-o’clock shadow

Uniform Cosmetics: Itsy Bitsy Spyer (blue doll), Triggerman’s Tacticals Typical Weapon Loadout: Sniper Rifle, Razorback, Machete

Likes: The outdoors, wildlife (esp. lizards and birds of prey), spiders, barbecuing, old movies (Golden Age), “oldies” music (esp. ’40s-’50s) Dislikes: Weak coffee, being cold, the dark, short doorways and low ceilings Fears: Blindness, canines (dogs, wolves, coyotes, etc) Habits: Smoker Disorders/Medical Conditions: N/A

Extra Facts:

Has been at this “war” a long time, almost since the initial reformation of TF Industries. Still tries to take things as seriously and to remain as professional as he can, but it’s been getting harder and harder to do. He’s not even really sure why he’s doing it any more, aside from maybe affection for his teammates, and not having any idea of what else he would want to do with his life.

Team Garrison’s unofficial leader, mostly due to seniority but also due to the other members of the team respecting him a great deal. He’s not exactly the “leader” type, in his mind, so he’s not likely to be giving orders or trying to tell the others what to do, but everyone listens to him when he speaks and he’s the one that they’ll come to with most issues they can’t handle themselves.

Spy’s “work husband”. The two of them have worked together since Spy was recruited at Sawmill, and have been friends for nearly as long. They know each other’s real names [*though it’s not required by their contracts, the mercs are strongly encouraged to keep their names to themselves], and are as close as two people can platonically be (there was an attempt to initiate a… deeper relationship on Spy’s part, years ago, but Sniper is asexual, so they remain heterosexual life partners). He received his Itsy Bitsy Spyer from Spy back at Sawmill, after they first told each other their names, and he gave Spy a Spycrab in return (Spy keeps it on his night table).

Not the typical loner hired by RED and BLU for his class. While he does enjoy his alone time, he’s more than happy to hang out with the rest of the team, spends most of his free time around the base rather than off on his own, and actually sleeps in his provided room in the barracks most nights, rather than in his camper. He’s also usually the first up and about in the morning; he lets Engie or Medic make breakfast (he can’t cook for shit), but he always makes the coffee.

Frequently “makes friends” with the wildlife and spiders around base. He fed and looked after a succession of squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, crows, snakes, and one great horned owl at Sawmill, and a gila monster, a red-tailed hawk, and several generations of wolf spiders at Teufort. He lets them stay wild and doesn’t try to domesticate them, but he inevitably ends up with at least a few critters in the vicinity that know his camper van and common sniping perches are safe places to chill and get a snack.

——

BLU Spy

Name: [REDACTED] Age: 41 Nationality: (Assumed) French Time w/ BLU: 10 years, 1 month [Sawmill vet]

Height: 5’8 Hair: Light brown, short side part (right), widow’s peak Eye Colour: Light grey Skin Tone: Pale Caucasian Scars: Gunshot wound (lower left abdomen), kukri wound (upper back, top of right shoulder blade to bottom of left shoulder blade) Other Distinguishing Features: N/A

Uniform Cosmetics: Blood Banker Typical Weapon Loadout: L’Etranger, Balisong, Disguise Kit, Cloak and Dagger, Sapper

Likes: Scotch, spy novels, cleanliness and organization (in himself, others, and his environment), swing music, crooner music (esp. Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra), privacy Dislikes: Uncleanliness, disorganization, chaos, ignorance (himself and others), surprises (even good ones), [hates] the RED Sniper Fears: [REDACTED] Habits: Chain smoker Disorders/Medical Conditions: [REDACTED]

Extra Facts:

Like Sniper, he’s been at this long enough to not take it too seriously any more, and as a result is much more open and friendly with his teammates than the majority of Spies. He still tries to maintain some degree of distance and intrigue (he is a Spy, after all), but he knows there’s no real harm in opening up a little and being on friendly terms with his co-workers. Most of the time. He has become… overly attached to certain teammates over the years, and when he has, it has led to near universally tragic results.

Nosy and gossipy; he loves to know everything that’s going on with everyone, as much as he can. He’s gathered more “intel” on both his teammates and opponents over the years than BLU and RED likely have, and knows more about everyone else than they realize (or would probably be comfortable with him knowing).

Was involved in a brief sexual relationship with the RED Sniper at Sawmill, shortly after the RED Sniper was first recruited. It ended poorly, to put it extremely mildly, and they’ve hated each other with a passion ever since. They will gladly take any opportunity to harm (or kill) each other, even during ceasefire, which has led to multiple unfortunate incidents over the years, several of which have spilled over to involve other mercs (usually members of the BLU team, unfortunately; Spy tries to keep their animosity strictly between him and the RED Sniper, but the RED Sniper isn’t as restrained).

Hates getting himself dirty in the course of his work. Tries to make most of his kills as bloodless as possible, or to keep himself at a safe distance if he needs to get… messy. While not as vain as his RED counterpart, he does take great pride in maintaining his immaculate appearance, even in the heat of battle.

Recently renewed his contract, despite being almost entirely disillusioned with the “war” at this point. He’s harboured a growing disquiet over the RED/BLU conflict for years, and he’s not quite ready to lose the “inside insight” he has on it as a mercenary in BLU’s employ.

——

RED Scout (“Red”/“Freckles”)

Name: Cooper Patrick O’Hare Age: 18 (almost 19) Nationality: American (New York [Brooklyn]) Time w/ RED: N/A [begins “First Day”]

Height: 5’4 Hair: Strawberry-blond, fade Eye Colour: Light brown Skin Tone: Lightly-tanned Caucasian Build: Thin, defined legs Scars: N/A Other Distinguishing Features: Buck teeth, freckles (literally everywhere: face [particularly over nose and cheekbones], neck, shoulders, back, legs, and arms)

Uniform Cosmetics: [*Acquired over the course of the shorts] Brooklyn Booties, Imp’s Imprint, Bonk Batter’s Backup Typical Weapon Loadout: Scattergun, Pistol, Bat

Likes: Dancing, cooking, baseball (Yankees fan), “classic” rock music (’60s-early ’80s), pop music, “kids’ movies” (Disney animated movies, G/PG-rated movies), animals Dislikes: Being short, his buck teeth, being treated like a kid, silence, being alone Fears: Deafness Habits: Chatters excessively Disorders/Medical Conditions: Asthma [mostly negated by injections provided before deployment]

Extra Facts:

A happy, bubbly extrovert. Will almost always seek out company rather than spend time alone, even if he usually just ends up chattering away at someone while he’s doing whatever he’s doing rather than chatting with them. He tends to not have much of a filter between his thoughts and his mouth, and he speaks without thinking a lot, but he’s easygoing enough that he’s not nearly as offensive to be around as his BLU counterpart. Overwhelmingly friendly, too; he’s willing, and will try, to make friends with anyone, unless they actively give him a reason not to.

Total babyface. Combined with his height, it makes him look like he’s fifteen years old at most, and it drives him crazy. He hates being underestimated and looked down on because of how he looks, and is quick to correct (with violence, if necessary) anyone who assumes his youthful appearance and general friendliness mean he’s easy to mess with. He is, however, objectively adorable, no matter how much it pisses him off.

Extremely flexible and acrobatic. Has been into dancing and gymnastics since he was a kid and, with the pre-deployment injections given to him by RED, he’s unbelievably nimble, even by Scout standards.

Quick learner, and not as unworldly as one might expect from someone his age. He’s still finding his feet in this odd situation he’s gotten himself involved in, but he chose mercenary work after taking a year off after high school, and it wasn’t just for the money.

He’s pretty sure he’s bi, but he’s never been in a same-sex relationship before. He’s definitely curious, though, and open to experimenting and figuring things out.

——

RED Engineer (“Wrenches”)

Name: Thomas William Harris Age: 34 Nationality: American (Georgia [Savannah]) Time w/ RED: 5 years, 3 months [Sawmill vet]

Height: 5’8 Hair: Dirty blond, buzz cut Eye Colour: Dark brown Skin Tone: Tanned Caucasian Build: Stout, broad-shouldered and -chested Scars: Knife wound (back of neck, spine), electrical burn (left wrist) Other Distinguishing Features: Robotic right hand (self-upgraded Gunslinger model), perpetual five o’clock shadow

Uniform Cosmetics: Builder’s Blueprints, Trencher’s Tunic, Packable Provisions, Hazard Handler Typical Weapon Loadout: Shotgun, Wrangler, Gunslinger, Wrench

Likes: Robots/robotics, machines, science fiction (TV, movies, and books), space/astronomy, working, bourbon Dislikes: Country music, crowds, shoddy workmanship, cruelty Fears: (Permanent) death Habits: Fidgets with Gunslinger Disorders/Medical Conditions: Insomnia

Extra Facts:

Tends to be quite reserved and distant with his teammates, though he’s easygoing and friendly enough with anyone who makes the effort to get to know him. He’s an amazing listener, and is the perfect guy to vent to with no fear of judgement. He has a fairly limited social battery, though; he’s more comfortable spending time with his machines than with other people most of the time, and can only take so much human interaction before he gets uncomfortable. He is actually on fairly genial terms with more members of the BLU team than of his own.

Has always been fascinated by machines and robots, to a near unhealthy degree, and is constantly coming up with new designs for gadgets, improvements to his existing gear, and potential mechanical implants, usually to the detriment of his eating and sleeping schedules. He hasn’t regretted cutting off his hand for his Gunslinger for even a second, and he would not be at all opposed to being the world’s first cyborg, if the opportunity ever presented itself. He also has a great deal of interest in the mechanics behind respawn and Mann Co’s other “developments”; he’s been officially reprimanded by the Administration for both trying to reverse-engineer various pieces of equipment and weaponry, and trying to crack open the intel more than once. [*The intel briefcases are specially sealed so the mercs can’t open them, even with all the weaponry at their disposal. Actually managing to open the intel briefcases is one of the few offenses in the mercs’ contracts that will result in immediate termination (read: permanent death).]

Strongly dislikes the RED Sniper. He’s disgusted by Sniper’s particular brand of cruelty, and hates to see him manipulating other members of the team. He’ll go out of his way to put a stop to it if he catches Sniper in a lie or manipulation, which has led to no little amount of animosity between them.

Has a veritable library of science-fiction media, from books to movies to homemade VHS recordings of Star Trek (original series and TNG, of course). He has also successfully made his own (briefly) working lightsaber and phaser, and has Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics engraved in the side of his toolbox. He’s not very conspicuous in his sci-fi fandom, but it’s obvious to anyone who cares to take even a cursory look.

RED Sniper

Name: Hollis Jacob Colling Age: 31 Nationality: Australian Time w/ RED: 8 years, 6 months [Sawmill vet]

Height: 6’2 Hair: Brown, short, messy Eye Colour: Brown Skin Tone: Well-tanned Caucasian Build: Thin, broad-shouldered Scars: Respawn error: knife wound (“Sniper scar”: left cheekbone and side of left nostril), knife wound (back, right shoulder), knife wound (torso, left pectoral to navel) Other Distinguishing Features: N/A

Uniform Cosmetics: Villain’s Veil, Crocodile Smile, Brim-Full of Bullets Typical Weapon Loadout: Huntsman, SMG, Kukri

Likes: Hunting, archery, the outdoors, being alone, violence, killing Dislikes: People in general, cities, being told what to do, not getting what he wants, the BLU Spy Fears: [Unknown] Habits: Smoker, stares Disorders/Medical Conditions: N/A

Extra Facts:

Gives off very intense vibes. Can be very charismatic when he puts his mind to it, but spending any significant time with him can be overwhelming in a very unsettling way.

Not a nice guy [honestly the closest thing close to an antagonist character in the shorts]. Enjoys violence for violence’s sake and seeing others in pain gives him that warm, fuzzy feeling inside. He was a professional hitman for most of his adult life before being hired by RED, and more than a few innocents that crossed his path met… unfortunate ends for his amusement. He spent a little over a year in prison after being caught “enjoying” one such innocent, and was picked up by RED while on the lam after escaping.

Will do anything he deems necessary to get what he wants, regardless of who it hurts and how much. He will lie, cheat, steal, and kill without remorse if he feels like it’ll benefit him.

Sadistically cruel to the Blues on the battlefield (and during ceasefire, though he exercises it less often off the field). He will try to make each kill as painful and drawn-out as possible, and if he can inflict a little lasting trauma (either emotional or physical) in the process, even better. He likes getting up close and getting his hands dirty, too; most of the Blues have at least one scar from his kukri.

A loner. He’s rarely seen around the base during ceasefire and on days off, preferring to spend his time in his nest or going out hunting. It’s not uncommon for him to disappear for a few days at a time if he knows there are no fights coming up. He’s always come back, (so far) so RED hasn’t had a problem with it, or at least not enough of one to tell him to stop [*like with revealing names, while it’s not strictly disallowed by their contracts, RED and BLU strongly discourage overnight trips off-base].

Team Rampart (RED) Bare Bones Basics

Again, what it says on the can! There'll be less focus on the Reds than the Blues over the course of the shorts, though a few will (eventually) take more prominent roles. They aren't quite as fully realized in my head as the Blues are yet (aside from the aforementioned few), so they might sound a little trope-y/archetypal in their descriptions. They'll grow, though; my boys always do :)

RED - Team Rampart

Scout

Age: 18 (almost 19) Nationality: American (New York [Brooklyn]) Time w/ RED: N/A [begins “First Day”] Height: 5’4 Hair: Strawberry-blond, fade Eye Colour: Light brown Build: Thin, well-defined legs Distinguishing Features: Buck teeth, freckles (literally everywhere: face [particularly over nose and cheekbones], neck, shoulders, back, legs, and arms)

Fresh meat. Recruited to RED to replace Team Rampart’s recently (permanently) deceased Scout, and still trying to find his footing in the world of RED and BLU’s bizarre “war”.

Looks like he’s in his mid-teens, at most, thanks to his height (or lack thereof) and babyface. He hates it.

Young and friendly, but not as naïve as one might expect, and has enough attitude for someone thrice his size when pushed too far.

Engineer ("Wrenches")

Age: 34 Nationality: American (Georgia [Savannah]) Time w/ RED: 5 years, 3 months Height: 5’8 Hair: Dirty blond, buzz cut Eye Colour: Dark brown Build: Stout, broad-shouldered and -chested Distinguishing Features: Customized Gunslinger (right hand), perpetual five o'clock shadow

More stoic and reserved than his BLU counterpart, though it is largely due to his teammates being, on the whole, less friendly than the Blues. Perfectly willing to open up to and relax with the right people, though he can be quite picky about who exactly the “right people” are.

Has a deep love of machines and robotics, to the point that it may be slightly unhealthy (he had a perfectly functional right hand before he received blueprints for the Gunslinger). It’s not uncommon for him to skip meals and lose sleep while working on a new sentry upgrade or the schematics for a new gadget.

The guy to vent to if you need to get something off your chest. He may not have much to offer by way of advice, depending on the situation, but he’ll listen and empathize and won’t judge, and no one will ever hear a word of what’s been told to him in confidence.

Sniper

Age: 31 Nationality: Australian (Queensland [primarily Outback]) Time w/ RED: 8 years, 6 months Height: 6’2 Hair: Brown, short, messy Eye Colour: Brown Build: Thin, broad-shouldered Distinguishing Features: “Sniper scar”: left cheekbone and side of left nostril

The best word to describe him is likely “intense”. His smile, his stare, his presence: all of it gives the impression of tightly contained ferocity and force, and something… unsettling just below the surface.

A loner who’s rarely seen around base during ceasefire unless he’s after something specific. Spends most of his time off the field either in his nest or hunting out past the fences.

Sadistically cruel to his enemies; prefers using his Huntsman and kukri during fights for more visceral kills. Also has a deep hatred of the BLU Spy, a feeling that is returned with interest.

The Rest

Soldier: A violently delusional madman. Frequently observed conversing with his shovel (her name is Miss Tabitha, and you will show her the respect a lady of her calibre deserves), and as quick to lash out at his teammates as his enemies, if he feels they deserve it.

Pyro: Never seen out of his (their? its?) suit. Ever. No one knows if they are male, female, or even human. Enjoys blood almost as much as they enjoy fire; the Axetinguisher is their favourite weapon.

Demoman: An alcoholic, red-headed Irishman with an uncanny knowledge of chemicals and explosives. Still has both of his eyes (so far), but is missing two fingers off his left hand and is more than a little hearing impaired.

Heavy: The strong, silent type, who will crush you like an empty soda can if you get on his nerves.

Medic: Psychotic. Sadistic. Terrifying. Definitely should not be practicing medicine in any capacity. Sees his teammates more as test subjects than potential patients, and isn’t afraid to tell them so.

Spy: Despite being a mercenary with RED for almost six years, he is 100% certain that he is too good for this shit. Arrogant, self-centered, and vain. Has been forcing (thoroughly unwanted) romantic advances on the BLU Engineer for years to keep himself entertained.

Team Garrison (BLU) Bare Bones Basics

What it says on the can! Some details about my BLU boys. Eventually might put up proper bios for everyone, but for now, just some very basics about who they are. Scout, Pyro, Sniper, and Spy are the primary focus on the BLU team, so they've got a little more info. I'll throw up the RED one soon, once I've actually got it done (it won't be as long, though).

BLU - Team Garrison

Scout

Age: 23 Nationality: American (Massachusetts [Boston]) Time w/ BLU: 13 months Height: 5’11 Hair: Light brown, crew cut Eye Colour: Hazel Build: Slim, broad-shouldered, well-defined legs Distinguishing Features: N/A

[Technically the main character? At least in the beginning.]

The prototypical Scout. An arrogant, loud-mouthed, hard-brawling boy from Boston, with a single ma, eight older brothers, and enough energy (even without his monthly supply of Bonk) to drive even the most patient of his teammates up the wall.

The biggest pain in everyone’s ass. General levels of tolerance for him and his antics range from Engie and Sniper’s resigned acceptance to Soldier and Medic’s near-homicidal antipathy.

Unapologetically offensive (though racism is generally off the table. Homophobia is fair game, though). Curses constantly, insults everyone he meets, and loves to push people’s buttons to see how much of a rise he can get out of them.

Pyro

Age: 20 Nationality: Mexican (Santa Ana) Time w/ BLU: 12 months Height: 5’9 Hair: Black, chin length, long bangs Eye Colour: Brown Build: Underweight, defined arms Distinguishing Features: Third-degree burn scar: left arm, elbow to shoulder; left side, mid-ribs to armpit; back, left side, mid-back to upper shoulder; neck, left side; left cheek from jaw to cheekbone (primarily hypertrophic scarring, some contracture on left shoulder)

Almost never seen out of his suit and mask, and rarely spends time with the rest of the team. He showers and eats on his own, and barely leaves his room during ceasefire, usually only emerging for the occasional visits with Engie in his workshop, or to burn things.

He was “convinced” to show his face by Scout several months ago at Teufort (during a very long weekend of Bonk-induced harassment), and hasn’t really forgiven him for it yet.

Is only really comfortable around Engie and Medic. He will only speak to the two of them willingly without his mask, and if he’s not in his room, Engie’s workshop is the next best place to look for him.

Sniper

Age: 38 Nationality: Australian (Northern Territory [primarily Outback]) Time w/ BLU: 11 years, 3 months [longest-serving merc] Height: 6’5 Hair: Dark brown, short, messy, long sideburns Eye Colour: Dark blue Build: Thin, broad-shouldered Distinguishing Features: “Sniper scar”: left cheekbone and side of left nostril, perpetual five o'clock shadow

Team Garrison’s unofficial leader.

He and Spy have been on the same team since Spy was recruited at Sawmill a decade ago. He considers Spy to be his best friend and they give off major “old married couple” energy, despite their relationship being entirely platonic. 100% heterosexual life partners.

More friendly than a lot of Snipers, and is seen around base more often during ceasefire. He has a camper van, but it’s more a means of transport than a home. He actually sleeps in his provided room in the barracks most nights, and is usually the first one up in the morning (he makes the coffee).

Spy

Age: 41 Nationality: (Assumed) French Time w/ BLU: 10 years, 1 month Height: 5’8 Hair: Wouldn't you like to know? Eye Colour: Light grey Build: Slender Distinguishing Features: N/A

Like Sniper, more friendly and less reserved than one might expect of a typical member of his class. He’s been at this “war” long enough to not take things too seriously any more, and he’s grown to have at least some degree of affection for the rest of the team over the years.

Incredibly nosy, and a shameless gossip. Knows more about the rest of the team than they would ever expect.

Surprising absolutely everyone (including himself), he’s found himself on unexpectedly friendly terms with Scout. He’s one of the few that Scout will actually sit down with long enough to have an actual conversation with.

The Rest

Soldier: Utterly devoted to the cause, and expects the best from the rest of the men, to an often infuriating degree.

Demoman: An alcoholic, one-eyed, Black Scotsman. Suspiciously similar to the Team Fortress Demoman, Tavish DeGroot. The “fun older brother” of the team; one of the few members of Team Garrison that tolerates, and even sometimes enjoys, Scout’s particular brand of obnoxious, hyperactive jackassery.

Heavy: Uncle Heavy. Laid-back and easy-going, more than willing to sit and chill with the guys, drinking a few beers and shooting the shit. Very protective of his team, especially Medic (his “husband”).

Engineer: The team dad. Quiet, friendly, and down-to-earth. Always willing to sit and listen to any of the guys’ problems and try to help them sort through them. The only married merc, and the only parent: he has two young daughters (nine and eleven years old) back home that he will gladly talk anyone’s ear off about.

Medic: The chronically exasperated mother-hen of Team Garrison. Austrian, despite Soldier’s unwavering belief that he must be German (due to German being his mother tongue). Oldest merc at 58 years old, a fact which Scout never lets him forget. Has a pet turtle dove named Rokitansky (after the Austrian physician and pathologist [not anything to do with rockets in spite of, again, Soldier’s certainty that this is the case]) who lives in the Infirmary. Has been in a loving relationship with Heavy since their days at Sawmill.

Tales of Well Basics

What it says on the can. Basic background/world info on my TF2 shorts.

Maybe TMI before even posting any of the shorts, but I'm terrible at summaries, so I'd rather just throw up some basic info, to help keep any important setting/mechanics details in one place.

Also see: BLU team bare bones info! RED team bare bones info!

[Taken from ff.net summary] Primarily slice-of-life, romance, and cozy-fiction, with a smattering of action, drama and even, occasionally, glimpses of a larger overarching plot.

Entirely OC cast. Sorry.

Primary focus on the BLU team, particularly Scout, Spy, Pyro, and Sniper, though the RED Scout will also be taking a larger role as the shorts go on.

Pairings (not necessarily all at once): BLU Spy/Scout (not related!), BLU Red Oktoberfest (background), RED Speeding Bullet, RED Texas Two-Step, Scoutcest, cross-faction Flash Fire, Scoutcest-Flash Fire combo (is there a name for that?). [Apologies, but RED Scout is turning into a little bit of a manwhore :P]

Takes place at CP Well in the early 1990s (first short in the timeline takes place March 6, 1993), after the BLU and RED teams (Garrison and Rampart, respectively) transfer from a multi-year stint at Teufort. The majority of both teams worked with (or against) each other at Sawmill for several years before that as well.

One member of each class on each team.

Despite being on a Capture Point map, and participating in Capture Point matches, the teams also frequently partake in Capture the Flag battles, and there are the occasional King of the Hill days and Team Deathmatches thrown in for spice.

There are not fights every day, but the mercs will usually put in at least thirty to thirty-five hours a week on the field. Weekends are usually ceasefire time, but scheduling is erratic: the mercs can fight for nine days straight, then not at all for another five. Matches can last up to eight hours if victory conditions are not met, but stalemates/time-outs of this kind are rare.

Friendly fire is disabled during battle, but teammates can still make physical contact with one another. Friendly fire IS enabled during ceasefire.

Respawn exists, of the "reconstruction from a digital template" variety.

Respawn is enabled during fights, and enabled on a delay during ceasefire. Wounds taken in battle (or during ceasefire) remain until healed or respawned. If killed during ceasefire, but within the respawn area bounds, the deceased will remain in the “respawn void” until the beginning of the next match.

Respawning too often during a single match, or spending too much time in the respawn void, can lead to respawn errors, which can range in seriousness from scarring and minor memory loss to misplaced limbs and organs. Most respawn errors can be corrected by medigun/dispenser healing, a subsequent respawn, or simply the passage of time (respawn errors that fade this way [amnesia, phantom pain, or intense paranoia, for example] usually last no longer than ten minutes, though more severe ones can last for hours), but other errors can prove permanent, or permanently fatal. Usually, respawn errors will begin to appear after fifteen or so respawns in a single match, or more than eighteen hours spent in the respawn void, and the severity of the errors will, in general, be proportional to the number of deaths or time spent in the void.

Before their initial deployment, each merc receives a full medical physical examination from RED/BLU, where they are given injections that grant them increased endurance and pain tolerance, and generally increase their physical hardiness (as well as help to facilitate respawn). These injections also allow for Übercharge, and some classes also receive other abilities (Scouts’ double-jump, for example).

Supply deliveries come once a month, and shipments of improved weapons and gear usually arrive two or three times a year. Not every class will receive gear in each special shipment, though there is rarely equipment for less than three (though “equipment” might be a little generous; hats and other “cosmetic items” are included by this category).

Engineers can set up three sentries, one of each level. However, they are still limited to one dispenser and teleporter at a time.

And there we go. Again, probably way more info than anyone needs, but I'm a world-builder at heart; working out the background details like this is my catnip.

Hey Guys I’m Back Again With My OC Ship Showcase! I Am Aware Shipruary 2024 Is Going To Start Soon

Hey Guys I’m Back Again With My OC Ship Showcase! I Am Aware Shipruary 2024 Is Going To Start Soon

Hey guys I’m back again with my OC ship showcase! I am aware shipruary 2024 is going to start soon but I’m a procrastinator and haven’t been on in a while so we’re just going to ignore that. Day 7 is movie so we have Xiya (blonde) and her girlfriend Faye (brunette) watching a movie on Xiya’s laptop. You can imagine whatever movie you think they are watching, I think Morbius because those are the only appropriate faces to make when watching that movie. Anyway into the lore! Xiya Pierce is one of my spider people OCs but she does exist in the same world as all my other OCs. Her hero name is Taser Web because she has a venom shock but she can also shoot web out of her wrist and these webs are high conductive to her venom shock. So she basically shoots mini tasers. She is a cheerleader (or was until she got bit) and has severe ptsd! Essentially how she got bit is she was kidnapped by Gradient (evil science organization and the big bads of this world remember them lol) and was forced to stay still as the spider was put on her hand and bit her. Sad thing is she didn’t even realize she had powers until she got out thanks to Incantation. Speaking of incantation let’s talk about her! Faye Conway is my magic user/ sorceress character. Her hero name is incantation and she is essentially able to do anything with magic but she has to develop and practice the spells herself. It takes a while to make a new spell but she tries to make it work. Anyway she has known Xiya since middle school so when Xiya went missing Faye didn’t rest until she found her. They started dating a little bit after and now Faye’s main focus is helping Xiya overcome her trauma. They’re actually both theatre kids (Faye managed to convince Xiya to try out for a play after she quit cheerleading and the rest is history) and they’re one of the few characters who actually have good parents that aren’t dead or dying! That was a lot I just love them so much. As always base is included check them out they are so talented and hopefully I can post more regularly now.

Isa and 🔪?

They do not act well. They blame themselves because they are able to create illusions and distort reality, causing them difficulty distinguishing reality and illusion. So when they get hurt, at first they blame themselves for allowing harm to come to their loved ones even in an illusion. When they realize it isn't an illusion however, they lose their damn mind. They will make your life a living hell, manipulate your perception of reality until you can't distinguish the two, and if your lucky, their friends will stop them before they get that far. BTW, the scariest thing about this character is that they're one of the few to actually have a separate costume and name for being a vigilante, meaning they can do whatever they want outside of the law, and they won't get caught. So yeah, not calm.

Illustrator and 🙈?

Illustrator is actually a self insert, so this is fun lol, but some of this is obviously made up for superhero stuff and to shield my secret identity lol. The side of them that is nice because it gets people to like and trust them more. If they appeal to others egos, they can get any information out of anyone. Also, they are very very protective of their loved ones. This is the person who canonically drops a building on people because they kidnapped their brother. DO NOT MESS WITH THEM. They don't want people to know they are psycho no one can know the truth.
