the parallels between jay and gillion's backstories are so important to me. being told your whole life how youre going to grow into something you dont have any control over and constantly training for it. being oppressed by a title, a name, something that determines your every action. having no choice over your future, your autonomy.
and yet when they leave, when theyre exposed to the rest of the world, they see how the environment they grew up in was flawed. what they learned was from such a severe perspective, and having the space to grow and change let them see the true beauty of the world.

as per the people’s choice (scary ass albatrio pov outsider)
the albatross used to admittedly be the butt of the joke within pirate and navy circles alike. three nobodies only one with boring experience, the likely privileged daughter of the ferin family and a supposedly disowned triton. these jokes however became the quiet mutterings in bars or on boats, they now feared if they mentioned the name the trio would appear.
whilst some believe they were just rumours others had seen otherwise.
walking into battle they would be seen bickering and joking, making the switch all the more terrifying.
the ferin girl whose eyes turned hard and darkened, a pistol at her hip that seemed to be connected to her. they saw the way she would slash her way through men double her size, her orange hair slowly stained with blood. the laughter on her face melted away, suddenly cold and unbreaking, this was no girl this was a woman who had seen too much and whose life has been shattered too many times.
the triton, some expected his training but none expected his rage. his entire body thrumming with some power that any species knew to be scared of. the sword in his hand seemed just a another part of his body, a living thing that always struck true. gore collected on his coral but he never seemed to notice. they knew of his unwavering morals but watching him slice open another mans stomach made then question otherwise
finally the boy, he had claimed to be once part of the black rose crew and they had all laughed. but this, this was arlin through and through, the deft way he out stepped a sword or goaded on his enemy. they saw the way he carelessly wiped the blood soaking his hands on some rag before disappearing almost in front of their eyes, laughing as they stood confused. he smiled his way through carnage, blasting a magic no one even knew existed into any unfortunate soul. he gained no joy from the hurt he inflicted but the relief at seeing that final body drop was almost worse.

i imagine before he did ghost hunting his channel was all gacha life mmvs and the like. he abandoned the channel until he got his first emf reader at 15 and it all went downhill from there

gillion and panic attacks
the first time gillion has a panic attack on dry land it is after the effects wear off from laffinlot. he is absolutely sure this will be his end. there is no way for him to get enough oxygen in, no water to stop his throat from closing on itself.
he watches the world shrink into pin pricks, every noise around him simply turns into thuds of his heart rate. this is his penance he decides, his failure to save everyone in the town, hurting his friends and most of all failing to fit the title his parents had always expected of him.
as his skin feels like it was drying and shrinking on itself he feels a pressure on his shoulders. hands, warm and calloused plucking him back to reality. he can hear a voice that calls to him, louder than his heart rate reminding him that he has a body still and a heart that pumps.
chips holds him for what feel like an hour, unmoving, rubbing his back and holding him back from falling off the edge and promises him that yes he will always be there

Skullslice AU
The albatrio meets while Chip is still in Reubens gang.
- Chip is meaner, less joking around, gets angry a lot easier but is actually just scared. He wants to escape he just hasn’t gotten around to it yet. (Reuben keeps guilting him into staying.)
-Jay is still a spy for the navy but she isn’t given the choice of choosing her own missions and has to work up to that. She has been assigned to as a spy in Price’s gang to gather information and keep peace with the gang and navy relationships. Originally she only became close to Chip because she knew that he was close to Price.
-Unfortunately when Gil was banished skullslice was the first place he found. He originally came out swinging because evil and got himself captured. Price sent Chip to kill him but he managed to fake his death and keep him in hiding but Gil can sense an evil on Chip so it makes it very difficult. Chip manages to get Jay take care of Gillion. Jay admits to Gil that she is a traitor right away and after knowing Chip eventually convinces Gil that the reason why he is “evil” is because Reuben is making him that way. Gil wants to apologize to Chip but Jay tells him not to say a word of what they discussed in private. Chip is bitter and argumentative at first but Gillion seems way too apologetic and unresponsive to it. Eventually they all get closer. There is a lot of tension but Chip is the best friend they can have in this situation and Chip is starved for any affection that isn’t from his brother so they ignore their circumstances. One day Chip comes down with more bruises than usual and confesses to Gil that he wants to leave Reuben. Gil, trying to help, says that Jay is a spy and could probably help him escape. Chip, lashing out, says that he should’ve killed Gil when he was told and they dual. Jay interrupts and Chips anger is redirected towards her. Jay admits everything to them. Jay tries to apologize but gets overwhelmed and instinctively runs back to Reuben to tell him everything. He immediately sends people out to find them and says that for going behind his back he will have to kill both of them. Chip miraculously finds them before anyone else and they make their great escape to sea. Chip forgives Jay because she gave him his dream. Jay doesn’t want to go back to the navy she wants to find her sisters killer so Jay and Chip made a deal that he will help her them as part of his crew. They don’t look at eachother the same at first but get the chance to become friends all over again but the right way. Gillion feels tremendous guilt for ruining their friendship and swears that he will make it better so he stays with them. Then even after he learns that as a crew they can do good together and fuck shit up.

relistening to the paramount tournament arc and in retrospect the jay grandma disguise is so much funnier, like grizzly says she looks like her grandma, imagine being a mana citizen are you’re like 99% sure that the grand admiral is dementia addled and fighting in a tournament it’s like if joe biden just randomly entered a wwe match and kicked ass 😭
