If you are in the US, you may be aware that librarians are Going Through It because some malicious people believe in fascism and have decided to make that our problem. Whether you are in the US or not, there is something you can do to help your local librarians out:**
Say something nice to us.
You can post on social media and tag your library, you can find the library’s main phone number and call, you can go in person, you can send a card (we display cards in our break room)! I guarantee you that you will make the day of the person you talk to, we will immediately go tell all our colleagues how lovely you were, and you will help us live to love and fight another day.

I just can't help myself when I enter my local library.
Libraries deserve a lot of love. Where I live, my library isn't just a good place to relax and study, but they also run several of the community events near where I live. I can't easily afford to go to Comic Con, so they basically run a Comic Con that is a free event near mine. It is a genuinely important place for me and the people around me.
I drew this to post on the mutual aid group's page during Library Appreciation Week. Thought I would share w y'all as well!
I got two books from the Library. One on birds and another on frogs. I am trying to draw at least one critter from one book a day :) It helps me when I'm having trouble feeling inspired and gives me an immediate reference image to learn from. Lovely visit to the library with my friend to finish up my Wednesday reports after a long train journey. Not sure if I was annoying the lady next to me on the train while working on my laptop but she kept making awful faces at me 🥲.
🤍Finished my physical chemistry lab report
🤍Completed my data sheet from Friday’s practical. My results are a little strange but hopefully that’ll be more to talk about in my report.
🤍Finished my next tutorial, bar one super annoying question that I’ll need to work on.
🤍Spent some quality time catching up with my friend.
I’ve gotten another cold again so went straight to bed after the library and feel like I’ve been sleeping forever.
Late night session. Library closed at 2am so off to finish my lectures at home.

Jakarta citizens have to be very grateful for the amount of effort its government put into building a cool and comfortable reading space in the entire city. One of it is the infamous Perpustakaan Cikini and PDS H.B. Jassin which are heaven for those who craving for Rp 0 place to read!

When I teach my library and information science students, that's the kind of library I envision, and I hope to inspire them to create it.
people talking about "lesbian rights" going "U CAN'T BE A TRANSMASC/TRANS MEN LESBIAN THAT'S LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE YOU ARE THREATENING ALL OF THE LESBIANS AROUND U!!!!!!!" meanwhile i was at the library earlier and saw one of the staff members with a shaved head had a water bottle with a sticker saying "cultivate lesbian JOY!" and so i decided to go "hey nice i'm a lesbian too!" and that person & the transfem next to them both erupted with joy. nobody got mad about my beard. nobody got mad about how deep my voice is. those two, who are very used to seeing me there as that's where i print labels for my job, were overjoyed to see another lesbian.
i didn't get 20 questions. i didn't get "your voice is deep are you a MAN????" nobody bitched about my facial hair. nobody got mad that a person passing for a cis man at the time said it was a lesbian. instead i received nothing but joy, the others giggling and saying that we were the Lesbian Corner. nobody got mad, there was nothing but joy. a transmasc lesbian & a transfem lesbian shared the exact same joy it it bothered no one. no fighting. NONE. no being mad about my appearance or my voice. this is what lesbian community is REALLY about. diversity among lesbians. accepting lesbians no matter how they look, sound, or what their gender is.
this is the spirit of lesbianism, not getting angry when someone is a lesbian "wrong".
Queering Libraries
While libraries have always been queer, libraries have not always been openly queer. And they still aren’t, although we’ve made some small strides.

My thoughts
What is it that makes libraries (openly) queer?
It's the diversity of collections, the tags and classifications used to make collections accessible, the way collections are presented, the way libraries present themselves, the way libraries and librarians engage in reflection on societal norms as well as their own, and the way they speak out to support and care for the most vulnerable communities they serve. The line between being queer and being openly queer seems to be blurred. For some it's already being open to actively use queer tags. For others, it starts with reflection and open engagement. I certainly lean towards the latter. It's about self-reflection, engagement and using their institutional voices.
How can we change this?
Firstly, you cannot do it alone. Not as a single library, not as a single person. You need a community. You need communities. Not just to make change happen, but to understand what needs to change and how. Secondly, you need to listen to those who raise their voices on issues and aspects where your first reflex is to say that cannot be considered at the moment, or not until other issues or aspects have been addressed. It's not about doing everything at once, it's about adjusting plans, taking into account multi-faceted and multi-layered perspectives, planning ahead together and giving everyone a say. Third, don't let differences of opinion divide your community. Don't let differences of opinion divide your communities. Look at the bigger picture together. Care for all vulnerable communities. We are all human beings.

"almost noon." niki hums, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "waffles?" you nod. "wow, letting me sleep in and making me breakfast? i have the best boyfriend ever~"
you laugh, turning around to face him. "i think you've won that title." niki laughs, leaning down and pulling you into a quick kiss.
"i disagree," he murmurs. "it's definitely you."

you shift awkwardly in your seat as you watch sunghoon dance around with a woman. his hands graze against her back with each step they take, their fingers intertwined. the song continues to drone on as sunghoon glances over her shoulder at you, giving you a small smile. you let it ease your jealousy as they continue, twirling around the room.
“they’re cute together,” a woman whispers next to you. her friend hums, leaning closer to her.
“i wonder when the king will settle down. it’s hard to run a kingdom alone.”
“perhaps he just needs to find the right person.”
“maybe it’s you,” you tense up as they laugh together. “you should ask him to a dance. he never declines.”
the first woman nods, turning her attention back to sunghoon and the woman, still dancing together. “i will. after this dance.”
you jump a little when someone places a hand on your shoulder. “sorry,” ki hong chuckles a little, moving his hand down to your back. his armor is cold against your skin as he leans down to whisper in your ear. “you look a little tense. why don’t we get out of here?”
you glance back at sunghoon for a second before nodding, eager to feel some fresh air against your face. ki hong’s hand stays pressed against your lower back as he leads you outside. the night air is cooler than you expected. you shiver a little, rubbing your hands against the fabric of your shirt. ki hong glances over, hand still close ghosting against your lower back. “cold?”
you step back a little, nodding. “i didn’t really have a jacket to bring,” you laugh.
“you could always come back up to my room with me.” the innuendo to his words makes you shift uncomfortably. you wrap your arms further around yourself, taking another step back.
“no, i think i’ll just head back inside. sunghoon should be done with the dances anyways-”
you freeze when ki hong reaches out to grab your arm, pulling you back. “y/n,” he steps closer, slowly forcing you back against the wall. “come on, you’re seriously still with him? you could do so much better.”
you swallow nervously. the concrete of the castle digs into your skin. “i love sunghoon. you know that.”
“you’re his consort. you’re nothing to him. he keeps you around because you’re an easy fuck,” ki hong lets out a bitter laugh. you tense up as he leans a little closer. “he’s the king, y/n. he doesn’t even bring you to advisory meetings anymore. what were you expecting?”
you bite your tongue, cursing yourself for being so sensitive. tears sting your eyes, threatening to fall, but you blink them away, forcing them back. a pit grows in your stomach. what if he’s right?
“y/n,” ki hong’s voice drops back to a whisper. he softly smiles at you, almost sympathetic. his hand brushes against your cheek, wiping away a stray tear. “i can treat you better. you know i can.”
you grit your teeth, pushing him away. “no. i love sunghoon.”
ki hong’s face drops. he sighs, shaking his head as if he’s disappointed in you. “you were always so naive. he’s going to leave and you’ll end up alone.” he steps back, looking down at you. “again.”
“ki hong,” sunghoon’s voice is a welcome distraction from the uncertainty running through your mind. his hands clench at his side as he walks closer. ki hong stammers a little before sunghoon interrupts. “i don’t want to see you around him again.”
he nervously bows, mumbling a quick ‘yes, your majesty’ before he rushes off. sunghoon sighs, relaxing his shoulders. you push yourself off of the wall, almost jumping into his arms. he wraps his arms around your waist as you bury your face into his chest. fresh tears threaten to fall before you blink them away. “you’re okay,” he murmurs, hand rubbing your back. he presses a kiss to your forehead, coaxing your face away from his chest. “what did he say to you?”
you take a shaky breath, looking down at your feet. “he said i don’t mean anything to you.”
“oh, baby,” sunghoon pulls you back against his chest, wiping away the tears that run down your face. his grip around your waist tightens a little. “i love you. you mean everything to me.” you nod, wiping your face. sunghoon traces your jawline with his finger, lifting your face so you’re looking at him. “come on, let’s go to bed.”
you ignore the questioning glances from the servants and guards you pass as you rush back through the castle to your room. sunghoon’s arm stays firmly wrapped around your waist.
his hands are gentle as they carefully untie the knots on your clothing, hands gently running against your sides as he stips you. he’s quick to join you underneath the blankets, pulling you in closer so your head is resting on his chest. he rubs your back as you relax against him. he pulls your hand up to rest against his skin, over his heart. “do you feel that?” he whispers. “it beats for you. only for you.” you shift to press a kiss against his skin.

sunlight has just started to break through the curtains when you wake up. behind you, you can feel sunghoon’s arm still wrapped around your waist. your back is pressed against his chest. you shift a little, turning to face him. sunghoon has always looked so peaceful when he sleeps. during your quiet mornings together the tension relaxes from his shoulders and the stress of being solely responsible for an entire kingdom of people momentarily disappears, leaving only his small moles and pretty smile visible.
it isn’t bright enough to warrant waking sunghoon yet, so you take your free time to admire your lover. your finger traces along his sharp jawline and up to push his bangs out of his eyes. his unstyled hair feels soft against your fingers as you play with it. sunghoon stirs a little but doesn’t open his eyes, moving to lay closer to you. your hand moves from his hair down to the nape of his neck, tickling the skin. he flinches, laughing as he opens his eyes. he wraps his arm around your waist, pulling you back into his hold.
“good morning,” he whispers.
“morning,” you hum, getting out of bed despite sunghoon’s whines. “we need to get ready for the day.” he groans but sits up, following you out of bed and into the bathroom.
something about bathing with sunghoon has always been so intimate. his fingers are gentle as they brush against your skin, massaging the soap into your hair. you let yourself relax at the feeling of his hands against your skin, relishing in the time you get to have alone with him.
“you’re so handsome, y/n,” he whispers, washing your back. “so, so handsome. ‘m so glad you’re mine.”
“it’s too early to be flirting with me like this,” you murmur, grateful that he isn’t able to see your face.
“it’s never too early to fluster you,” he laughs. “it’s the highlight of my day.” you bite back a smile, turning around and instead focusing on rinsing the soap off of sunghoon’s back.
you leave him to dry off alone, going back to your shared room to change into your clothes for the day. sunghoon is quick to follow, silently slipping his own coat onto his shoulders. he waits patiently for you to finish dressing yourself, styling your hair and fixing the cuffs of your own blazer. in the reflection of the mirror you use to adjust your hair, eyes focused on the ring that shines on your finger. he unconsciously plays with his own matching one, letting the giddiness of being married to the love of his life stay for the time being. in the morning silence he has nothing else to focus on. no one who needs his immediate attention. for now, he can focus on the way you continuously push a strand of hair out of your face, leaning closer to the mirror and squinting ever so slightly.
when you notice him looking at you from the corner of your eye you quickly look away. sunghoon chuckles as he walks closer until he is standing behind you. he holds a hand out for you to take, pulling you to your feet. you let him twirl you around the room, hands intertwined as you dance to silent music. his laugh is enough to spur on your own, lost in your own little world.
sunghoon pulls you close so you’re standing at eye level with his chest. you ignore the feeling of his breath against your cheek as you do the buttons of his blazer. sunghoon’s hands ghost against your hips as you smooth out the black fabric, adjusting the tassels that hang from his shoulders. once you finish, he leans down to pull you into a sweet kiss. “thank you, darling.”
you reach up to push the fringe out of his eyes. “of course.”
you’re interrupted by a tentative knock on your bedroom door, accompanied by the shaky voice of a servant. “your majesty, your meeting is set to begin in five minutes.”
“thank you,” sunghoon silently dismisses her with a curt nod. he presses another fleeting kiss against your forehead, whispering a quick ‘i love you’ before finally leaving for the day.
