Atlantic White-Sided Dolphin. (Lagenorhynchus acutus) Least Concern. As always, I have enjoyed working with this family. Working with cetaceans is always enjoyable. The most amusing aspect is getting to know them. I must confess that my knowledge about cetaceans was quite limited, extending only to the commonly known dolphins and whales. However, compiling this information has opened my eyes, allowing me to marvel at the hidden wonders of the sea and emphasizing the importance of protecting it. _____________________ Thank you all for your support. Working on this one was a real challenge. The lighting of the photo was difficult to figure out, and the shapes on the head were at an angle that I wasn't familiar with. Indian Elephant Elephas maximus indicus Family: Elephantidae Status and Conservation: Endangered

There are several notable distinctions between Asian Elephants and African Elephants. Firstly, Asian Elephants have significantly smaller ears than their African counterparts. Additionally, Asian Elephants have a pointed head shape, while African Elephants have a flatter head. In terms of size, Asian Elephants are considerably smaller. Furthermore, Asian Elephants have a long history of domestication... Nubian Wild Ass Equus africanus africanus Family: Equidae Status and Conservation: Critically Endangered

This animal, resembling the Somali Wild Ass, lacks leg stripes but features a distinctive stripe along its back.

Once thought extinct in the wild since the 1970s,. Long-Finned Pilot Whale (South Emisphere Form) Globicephala melas edwardii) Family: Delphinidae Genus: Globicephala Status and Conservation: Least Concern This is the final subspecies in this small family, and they closely resemble each other. Distinguishing them requires expertise. This form, for instance, exhibits more prominent white stripes on its sides and top compared to the other subspecies, though the presence of this pattern is not exclusive to it. Southern African Lion Panthera leo melanochaita Family: Felidae Genus: Panthera Conservation Status: Vulnerable

Before 2016, approximately a dozen subspecies of lions were officially recognized. However, after conducting more thorough assessments and further studies, scientists ultimately concluded that there are only two distinct subspecies. Somali Wild Ass Equus africanus somaliensis Family: Equidae Genus: Equus Conservation Status: Critically Endangered

There are fewer than 1,000 African Wild Asses left in the wild, and they are classified as Critically Endangered. This might be surprising, considering that Donkeys are commonly seen animals. However, there are several reasons why these animals are on the brink of extinction, and some subspecies have already disappeared. ____________________________ Thank you guys for your attention. Long-finned Pilot Whale Globicephala melas melas Family: Delphinidae Genus: Globicephala Conservation Status: Least Concern This whale is not a whale but a large dolphin. Despite the minimal differences between the Short-finned Pilot Whale and this species, they are indeed two distinct species. If that is not perplexing enough, this dolphin also possesses one subspecies—actually two, although one became extinct long ago along the coasts of Japan. In fact, scientists aren't sure that was a subspecies but almost sure. Let's say %93,2 sure. You see, science is consistently regarded as an exact discipline. Consider joining the club here. African Forest Elephant Loxodonta cyclotis Family: Elephantidae Genus: Loxodonta Subspecies: 00 Feed: Herbivorous Habitat: Monsoon Forest Status and Conservation: Endangered This unique elephant species is the smallest of the three (2.4 meters), it boasts a disproportionately impressive tusk. Adapted for forest life, it has a compact frame, less curved tusks for easy navigation, and probably the most captivating feature is its distinct yellow eyes common in many of these animals.

However, their valuable tusks make them targets for ivory poaching. This endangered species is challenging to study due to its remote habitat. Full body illustration and extended explanation join here: Discovering Club

Short-finned Pilot Whale Globicephala macrorhynchus

Family: Delphinidae Genus: Globicephala Subspecies: 00

Feed: Mollusks Habitat: Coastal Waters Status and Conservation: Least Concern This whale is known by various names. Pilot whales were originally associated with the theory that a leader of the pod was piloting them. There is also Pothead Whale, but the Melon-Headed Whale deserves better. The last male, named Sudan, passed away in 2018 due to age-related complications. With Sudan's death, this species is functionally extinct and now relies on various assisted reproductive techniques facilitated by humans.

Amur leopard This leopard inhabits cold environments, which necessitates denser and thicker fur, making it, in my opinion, the most beautiful of all eight subspecies of leopards. It is classified as critically endangered, and its population is estimated to be just over 100 individuals. African Bush Elephant Loxodonta africana Family: Equidae Genus: Equus Subspecies: 00

Feed: Herbivorous Habitat: Subtropical Dry Forest Status and Conservation: Endangered The largest elephant species, it stands as the tallest terrestrial animal on Earth, reaching heights of up to 3.96 meters. Highly social and exceptionally intelligent, elephants exhibit remarkable traits.

Given their impressive size and strong social bonds, elephants are effectively free from predators. Although young elephants may occasionally fall prey to lions or hyenas, their overall vulnerability is minimal.

Regrettably, the sole threat to their existence is us, humans. Throughout history, we have hunted elephants for sustenance and weaponry. Przewalski's Horse Equus ferus przewalskii Family: Equidae Genus: Equus Subspecies: 03 Feed: Herbivorous Habitat: Temperate Steppe Status and Conservation: Critically Endangered This is the only remaining species of wild horse. The other two wild horse species have already become extinct. One of them is the Tarpan (which was mentioned in a previous post), and the other is the European Wild Horse, which went extinct during the Pleistocene era. The other horses that roam in the wild are considered feral, which means they were once domesticated horses that have reverted to a wild state.

The Przewalski Horse was also extinct in the wild at one point. However, thanks to various breeding programs and the efforts of different zoos, it has been successfully reintroduced to its natural habitat in Mongolia and China. Pygmy Killer Whale This one is interesting. It is not related to the Killer Whale and is not a whale but a dolphin. The only thing that is accurate about its name is that it is not very large. Perhaps it should be called just the "Pygmy". However, it is very similar to another dolphin called the Melon-headed whale (we will learn about that one soon).

Not much is known about this 'whale' (I'm not sure if I should call it a whale). It is not typically aggressive in the wild, although there have been reports of aggressive behavior in captivity. Maybe is trying to tell us something.

Love this one! More from the Felidae family. The turn now is for the biggest in America. Jaguar At first glance, Jaguars and Leopards are not so easy to differentiate. They are like two brothers. One's appearance, the leopard, looks more graceful and stylized. While the Jaguar has a more bulky body and its legs are shorter. One is agile while the other one is made to wrestle. However, the biggest difference is that the leopard lives in Africa, Asia, and Oceania, while the Jaguar is found in America. I loved working and learning about this family, and I completely fell in love with the Okapi, which has become one of my new favorite animals. I must say that designing the art print was really challenging, but I am very happy with the result.
