i cannot help but identify with the monsterous and uncanny. it is the tragedy of a world that is not meant for them, that fears them, that hates them. it is the power of taking that revulsion and turning it into fuel for their strength. it is the beauty of survival. dear sorrowful creature, never fear judgement from me. for we are the same, you and i. you are like me and i am like you. let us find beauty amidst this dreadful world together.

“Silent watcher” Kenzo Tenma x F!Reader

genre: fluff, slight angst to comfort. cw: slight spoilers, anxiety, dealing with trauma, post canon au

“Silent Watcher” Kenzo Tenma X F!Reader

The second week of October in the foothills of southern Germany was overcast. From the small open balcony, where her feet were freezing from standing for so long, there was a view of the misty plain a couple of dozen meters down the slope. She rested her shoulder on the door frame, slightly leaning to the side, and dispassionately watched the drumming raindrops. The humidity of the air provided a sense of coolness with each breath, as if reaching the alveoli directly, and the rhythmic pounding of the drops hitting the surface was pleasantly calming.

Once she hated the rain. But then something changed. No, the rainfalls did not become less frequent, less gray. She became different.

From a warm awareness, a shadow of a smile appeared on her calm face, and her auditory receptors were distracted by another monotonous sound. The rustle of the rain slowly began to replace by the rustle of a pen sliding over paper, coming from the bedroom they shared for the duration of their stay in the hotel. Her bare feet carefully stepped over the wooden sill, not wanting to feel the still fresh pain of hitting it last night, and found themselves on a room’s floor which was only a couple of degrees warmer than the wet tiles of the balcony. Her hair, slightly fluffed up by the moisture, kept trying to get into her face as her quiet steps made their way towards the desk.

He had once loved the rain. But then something had changed. No, the rainfalls had not become less frequent, less gray. He had become different.

The black ink of the pen traced the lines of the German alphabet evenly on the expensive coated paper. He wanted to focus on the unwanted mail, just not to hear it, just not to remember it, just not to see it. The meaningless advertisements and annoying requests for interviews that he had finally learned to ignore seemed to be a salvation for him at such moments. Focusing on the calligraphic handwriting, on the work of the hand, writing the letters with excessive diligence, he was distracted. Perhaps this was partly why he decided to connect his life with neurosurgery. Endless hours of painstaking manual work freed him from the need to live in the present. The brain was busy, the heart also temporarily fell quiet. The silence lulled.

Kenzo continued to write out template phrases of greetings, apologies, farewells. It seemed as if just a little more and he would go to the neighboring rooms, collecting advertising letters, and would write responses to them, signing them himself as Mr. N or Mrs. T. He himself, also not noticing, slightly blushed from excessive efforts, completely immersed in routine work.

The pen froze only for a moment, when a cool trace of someone else's palm remained on his hot cheek, on the opposite temple - a slight imprint of cold lips.

If someone had been watching them through the window that overlooked the shallow slope, they would have been reminded of Klimt's "Kiss". The play of temperatures descended on his collarbone, diving under the collar of his wide shirt along with a woman's forearm, as cold as the pads of her fingers, which still tormented the capillaries on his cheek with a chill. The rain was disgusting to him. The rain was mixed with blood, hatred, the sticky and tenacious nightmare of Ruenheim. But now only it gave him another moment with her, another joyful moment of life. Another second, minute, hour, day spent with someone who truly knew him. Love in the present, not the future and not the past.

And only the rain could paint their "Kiss".

The never-ending cycle of people trying to copyright a word...

Monster Energy Goes After Indie Dev For Using The Word 'Monster'
This isn't the first time the beverage brand is going after a dev for using the word.

Monster Energy sued the Dark Deception video game series over the title “Gods and Monsters,” and it won a settlement in which the series can never use the word “monster” in a game title again. This corporation sues over any use of this single normal word in any context it possibly can, has apparently been doing so for many years now, and judges keep siding with them?!?!? They also sue over any use of a green glowy logo over a black background.

So I was checking my mail and I stumble upon this...

"In news guaranteed to satisfy manga fans, film geeks and evil pre-teen sociopaths, Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, Pacific Rim) recently announced his involvement in an HBO pilot for an adaption of Naoki Urasawa's horror manga Monster. Not only is everyone's favorite geek-director producing, writing and directing the pilot, but he also revealed that the show would be a strict adaptation of the manga with no “extra” content to pad out the episode count. GDT plus HBO? Yes, please."

So... Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of Del Toro (I love the first Hellboy, and that's about it), but I'm actually pretty excited to see results when it comes out since the story is fairly realistic.

Sadly, I don't have HBO... bah.

-----

That just got me thinking, whatever happened to the plans for a live-action Black Jack series or did that go down the toilet?

I can see that being a bit difficult since you'd want to attract non-nerdy people to the series.

You'd end up having to: redesign his look~ make up some new story for Pinoko (if she even exists in the series), probably renaming some of the characters...

But if they did it right, it could be a good series if it ever came to into existence, but on the same token, it could be terrible if done wrong. Unfortunately, I sense more going wrong than going right with this series. Wish they would ask for fan-input when it came to this stuff. Then everyone could be happy with something that could have ended up with a very scary result.

Or they could even offer fans to submit scripts for different chapters of the manga, that would allow people to try to make it acceptable and appealing for everyone watching. I love manga just as it is, but I'm trying to think realistically with people who aren't used to Tezuka's storytelling. Prime example is Pinoko, I don't think the average person would be as accepting of her origin story as many of the fans are.

I mean you could completely skip over her story, and say she was a patient of his that he ended up adopting (which is true to the manga), but then you'd have to remove her real age or make the excuse that when she says she's 18 because she has such a huge crush on him, she wants to be of marrying age (but you'd have to take into consideration how dark the series would be).  I think the best course of action for viewers here would be to make her a 11 to 13 year old who's simply his adopted daughter and assists him in emergencies.

Yeah... I went on a long rant.

Had I Not Other Things To Do That Night, I Would Have Been Been Able To Play A One-shot Dark Sun D&D

Had I not other things to do that night, I would have been been able to play a one-shot Dark Sun D&D campaign, pre-rolled characters, the whole shebang.  sigh.

Grimmer hcs bc I’ve been thinking of him a lot lately

(This is not mine but I do agree with it) he struggles cutting off his nails bc of the whole thing that happened in Prague

When he speaks english he has British accent, when he speaks spanish he has Castilian Spanish accent.

He has salty tooth

He has a very high spice tolerance

Quite canon but he likes blondie ladies (Tenma was the exception lmfao <man and black haired>)

Constantly he hits his head with the highest part of the door frame, or when he’s getting inside/outside a car.

Never finds the correct size of pants (my man’s way too big)

His hands are always warm (Iwanthimtochokeme)

Tea>>coffee

He smokes (obv not all the time but he does it, one pack of cigarettes lasts about half a year or more and of course he only smokes when he’s stressed or when he’s cold, and never close to children)

He indeed wants to be a father again but he’s afraid to make the same mistakes.

He’s not good in maths, like ofc he can do the basics but don’t ask him the result of y-3y’+2y=24e^-2x

He believes in ghosts and the life outside the Earth

He LOVES music in every shape or form, jazz, classic, pop, rock, indie, blues, r&b, even reggae, he would listen to everything.

THIS ARE ALL SO REAL AND CANON

(The one abt Grimmer’s sweater made me stand up from my chair and walk in circles in my room rethinking my life choices)

random Tenma headcanons

he did not just walk off a car crash like that idc idc he now has chronic pain bc of it

he did not learn his lesson when he fainted back in volume 1 for not sleeping and eating properly, and it def happened again at least once or twice during the timeskips we get between chapters/arcs. The problem is sort of resolved when he's traveling with Dieter because he needs to make sure the both of them are okay but reverts when he's not with Dieter.

never regains the weight he lost while hunting for Johan. His eating and sleeping habits def get better and he does gain most of it back but not all of it.

kept a sweater of Grimmer's after his death

while them getting back together is out of the question, Tenma and Eva have managed to build some sort of friendship post-canon. Despite their differences, there's some comfort found in them knowing each other for so long, and due to their lifestyles (Tenma always traveling, Eva's... complicated personality) they have very few serious connections with people. So it's nice to count each other as one, even if it's flawed.

Whenever he comes back to Germany to visit Dieter, Nina, Eva, etc. he runs into his old patients sometimes and catches up with them to see how they're doing

Despite being proven innocent, his face was plastered on news papers for years as the main suspect of all those murders. Which leads to uncomfortable, awkward circumstances whenever someone (a passerby, a cashier, a bartender, etc.) recognizes him.

Sends Nina and Dieter letters while working that sometimes include photos taken with his patients, mostly child patients.

Brings the two of them souvenirs whenever he thinks of them or finds something he think they'd like

The only problems he has with long/longer hair is the memories attached to it. While he prefers short hair, having it grow out only poses some mildly tedious problems. But whenever it does grow out he's reminded of how much death and misery surrounded him while on the run, and can't bear to let it grow longer. It also makes him feel unkept even if he were to take good care of it.
