The reason that the scales didn’t balance was because there were only two hearts on the scale but three on the ship (this is counting Jake Lockley), so when Steven fell off the boat the scales balanced, not because of anything Steven did, but because Steven falling made the number of hearts on the boat match up with the number of hearts on the ship (Jake and Marc)
There’s something about the way Stevens eyes were so wide when he first hugged Marc in this ep that really gets me.
