Tim, your back-up is ready to go!
I think at this point a fight between ylfa and La Bête is coming and I'm so excited for it. These two are the same, while also being completely different.
Here are my thoughts
Ylfa did not want to eat the wolf, but had to to survive. While la Bête ate her captor with absolute delight.
The moment when those two spoke in the library ylfa realized that she faced someone who truly embraced all aspects of being a beast, especially the gruesome parts and she thrives on her willingness to exact violence. Which makes sense in a way since la Bête took the power from her captor to become something mightier, someone who isn't helpless. La Bête isn‘t evil, she is being herself, truly every living out every part of her soul.
The same can‘t be said for our best girl.
Ylfa is afraid of cruelty, she wants to be kind and seen as such. I think seeing someone is the same as her but who doesn't hold the same fears as her scares her a bit (Especially knowing that la Bête might use violence on her and would have no hesitation about it probably).
I do hope tho that that she is "redeemable" cuz there is big hairy bloodthirsty sister vibes here.
This is my interpretation of ylfa‘s design from Neverafter.
I‘d like to imagine ylfa with a huge axe cuz girls who face death and befriend it deserve a huge axe.
Remembered the time I did a Ylfa fanart for one of my classes
yilfa snorgelsson // on earth we're briefly gorgeous
i know were all relieved that its a time loop and that they arent gone forever and im being completely normal about that
and by that i mean im thinking about how gerard will never get HIS elody back, because in that world he is dead. the fairies could bring her to him, effectively tearing her from the kingdom she was trying to save and dooming them both, because how could she love him after that? pinocchio's dad might live in some liminal space where in every iteration he is bound to the stepmother, but whos to say gepetto wasnt waiting for his human son to come home? what if thats how the stepmother is able to keep lying to pinocchio saying that his dad is safe, because she keeps finding new gepettos to drain, and that fatherly love goes beyond whatever story they find themselves in.
no matter what magic is offered to them, they cant go back. they died in that story. and they dont have time to worry about what will happen to the people they loved because they only have one way to save them, and its to remember.
Its him, its our boy , his wife loves him everything is fine
Drawing from personal experience
I don’t care what story it is, if there’s a small talking fox with infinite wisdom, never ending trust and a love of trickery, I will love them.
The Wizard, The Witch and The Wild One’s Fox
The Little Prince’s Fox
D20 Neverafter’s Fox
The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’s Fox
All very beloved by me and I’m sure I’m missing a few of them
Our ragged, bloodstained girl in red. Flesh stained teeth, earth crusted nails. An animal-girl.
Girlhood knows red. She knows of blood and the hollowing hunger that resides in the pit of stomachs. She knows her way around organs and the fresh scent of danger. Girlhood knows of red eyes, red hands, red tongue licking a full, satisfied smile.
Red waits with the Creature resting on her grandmother’s bed. It lies with one paw over the other. It yawns and sleeps and bares its neck. It waits for inevitability. Fear wears the clothes of love.
“If you cannot eat, you will die. This is the Law.”
Tears swell at the corners of the girl’s eyes. Who are these tears for, my child? Humanity lays at the corners of her eyes. She wipes them with the back of her hand.
Hunger and hunger and hunger grips the girls stomach. Starvation. Instincts. Animal.
She lays the iron weapon into the Creature’s skull.
Red Riding Hood devours her shadow. She rips apart fur, finds the critical spot where the meat comes apart the easiest, where the heart pounds and fades the quickest.
She splits the skull apart, pulling the strings that have tormented her Story many times told. She strays the path and follows her instincts. Animal.
She eats. She eats and drinks and swallows. Bright red. Raw meat. She picks the fur and guts out of her teeth. She wipes her mouth on the collar of her white dress and her hands at her thighs. “My teeth were made to eat you”.
Unrecognisable child. People fear you the way they feared the Big Bad Wolf. What have you done? Predator claws and ears grow from her body. Alien, familiar. Maturity, mortality, humanity, innocence— the blood at the end of girlhood.
“I met death, and Death wants me to live.”
this whole scene was so gerard talking to elody-coded you have no idea
Hey. Hey since when did you have permission to tell your mom about my horribly embarrassing curse?!
ylfa snorgelsson meeting snow white and finding out the beast is a princess is such a gay moment. there are two wolves inside you: one has crushes on women and the other feels monstrous because it doesn't perform femininity in a way society approves of. they're both lesbians.
Looks like Neverafter is my next D20 season to tackle! Can't wait to listen to Brennan Lee Mulligan make terrible retching noises while I unpack frozen vegetables 😊 (In all actuality, I'm excited to listen to this season)
I'm almost done listening to A Starstruck Odyssey, but I have an 8 hour shift at work tomorrow.
