I lied I finished this today
anyway I’ve been stuck on what in particular really kickstarts nights breakdown and I can’t believe I didn’t see it because OBVIOUSLY it’s because she sees, really sees, finch and the others doing violent stuff after starclan falls, and she realises that obviously it’s her fault because SHE saw that finch (with finch as a personification of all the df cats) was like that from the start (finch literally kills FOR night to get into the df in the first place) and in order to have any chance against starclan she ignored that and even like. cultivated that. so obviously finch isn’t the monster, it’s not finch’s fault, it’s hers. She’s the monster. and finch believes the opposite. anyway waht am I saying

being fully aware of what characters I like is SO EMBARRASSINGG. because I see it coming like it’s in slow motion. oh I suddenly have this interest in a franchise I haven’t cared about in ages. WHY?? because someone made the decision to include a character who’s mean and selfish and antagonist material (like can and probably should be hated) and what made them that way was not entirely fault of their own but you can also argue that it was and they could kill you AND they’re doomed from the start. like. fuck you. I’m already sobbing.

I employed a lot of artistic freedom with anatomy lol.. (and mistakes, night should have 3 toes not 4). especially for xuanhanosaurus it has like 2 images that were actually useful. But I wanted night to be that size + look like a bigger theropod (both of them are roughly the same height as a human I think it’s cute)

alternatively, has being in silverpelt warped your perception of time? you feel like you're same as you've always been, but suddenly you're back in the world of the living and the entire world context has changed. youre a living piece of their ancient history. they speak a different language. you feel like no time has passed at all but suddenly you're unable to ever be just a living cat again because you've been dead 500 years. forget being yourself again, can you even be a person (cat) again?
sometimes i feel really stuck on how to characterise characters like Night and other starclan cats who have been dead for so long because i cant really comprehend how exactly that would change you. fading isnt a thing in this universe. youve been dead for centuries. tiny little things in life havent been relevant for that long because youve forgotten what being alive was.
while i dont characterise my starclan as god-like figures the oldest of them certainly aren't just little cats. WHAT ARE THEY??

Is Night sun-bleached?
Well I intended the design to have her chest as just her natural fur colour, but I guess you could interpret it as bleached! (I don’t really strive for realism with my designs lol)
properly sun bleached night would be super cool though. love cool fire motif it’s why she has orange eyes and the markings in the first place lmao

i thinkk if characterisation is staying, Night would freak out about it and Finch would win.. if its just skills alone i think its equal chance of Night winning or they BOTH lose and somehow kill each other lol
My god, had bad did Night fumble that ball to fuck up this slam dunk of a victory.
Don't the clans skirmish with each other or something like that, or is Starclan basically their direct government and they just hang out
There is something super interesting about the main villain government actually being very easy to overthrow, like they are easy as hell to beat up. But the problem isn't in beating them, it's in legitimacy.
Staran might be corrupt, but they have about a few centuries of good will, achievements, faith, and just plain knowing how to run a clan on their resume. DF is basically a bunch of assholes who came out of left field and know how to kill, that no one knows or likes.
Sure, you might be able to kick Starclan to the curb, but can you actually justify why you should be in charge rather than them?

I think the clans probably do have skirmishes, just not often thanks to the sheer size of their territories lol (leads to miscommunication HELL but also less contact with each other or each other’s borders that they could fight over. they don’t have gatherings like in warriors).
The DF’s ‘legitimacy’ is super interesting, since Night’s motivations behind the rebellion are inherently selfish, and arguably taking an approach of getting rid of the whole society instead of trying to fix it is Bad
The main point behind Petalclaw's little resistance group after that is basically ‘we don’t think starclan was great but you didn’t have the right to do that to us’ (+ Night’s motivation behind her involvement in the rebellion was basically ‘StarClan didn’t have the right to do that to me’. I’m sure Night will respond to this parallel very Normally).

What did Finch do and what would night do if she found out what Finch did?

Finch killed four Alpine cats (including an apprentice) a few weeks after the civil war ended :] she did this deliberately because she knew she'd be banished to the dark forest with Night because of it (I think at this point she believed silverpelt did exist) and she was pretty distressed that Night was there alone.
Night probably already knows deep down that Finch wasnt just banished to the dark forest for no reason, and whatever she did was probably because of her (Night might ignore it but it’s hard to not notice how much Finch would just do basically anything for her lol).
I honestly have no idea how Night would react to being told outright lol.. Night and Finch share the trait of ignoring things until it comes back to bite them later
