In Hindu cultures stepwells and river sangams (conflences) became important sites of pilgrimage in Hinduism because of their ability to bring people from all walks of life and their novel ideas together This stepped pond commemorates the contribution of water and the contribution of confluence. Modeled after the historicel architectural masterpieces of Surya Kund at Modhera in Gujarat and Chand Baori at Abheneri in Rajasthan
this Brahma Kund preserves the traditional architecture and the holy waters from 108 rivers and lakes in India, including the four most revered Indian rivers. Each of the rivers Signifies a distinct cultural stream that contributes to the thematic fulfillment of this Swaminarayan Akshardham Complex. The Brahma Kund, a stepped pond with sacred waters, was named by His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the Inspirer of this complex.
