WARNING : Moana 2 Spoilers ahead
Who agrees that Moana is starting to become a LOT like Percy jackson?
First quest, removes the negativity from a bad god and makes them good(ish) Te Ka -> Te Fiti Ares / Hades -> Knocks down Ares' ego by a decent bit / Removes Hades from suspicion
And by the time the first movie is over, Moana's 'got all the gods talking', in Matangi's words. Percy Jackson did pretty much the same.
Zeus, the King of the Gods, god of skies and thunder, hates Percy. Nalo, the god of storms and lightning, hates Moana. See any similarities?
Artemis, a fierce huntress and daughter of Zeus, dislikes Zeus' ways, takes a liking to Percy. Matangi, a powerful bat demigoddess who's a subordinate of Nalo, wishes to overthrow Nalo, takes a liking to Moana. Tamatoa, a crab who talks with the gods themselves, was humiliated and hates Moana. ...everyone knows Percy's humiliated more than enough minor gods and is on the top of every monster's bucket list of 'Demigods I Wish To Devour'.
Percy has a bestie named Frank Zhang, a big strong guy who can turn into animals. Moana has Maui, who needs no description.
Percy has Leo, a crazy tinkerer who's the best mechanic to be found and fights with a hammer. Moana has Loto, who's just the same.
And thus, I rest my case that Moana is 100% a daughter or descendant of Poseidon, and that she and Percy should be siblings with a knack for gathering the undivided hate of all the gods. (I would die to see that AU made canon)
And, as a final point?
They both have adorable little sisters.
Part 3š
And Grover againā¤ļø
In the corner I wrote the character's age at the time of drawingšššš
Nicoš Here he is still young, but already sad... I really love his natural dark skin
Thalia! This is clearly not her hairstyle, but my brain and hands were not able to realize her beautiful āhedgehogā on her head She's awesome!
Poseidon
I really like the art and don't really like the character, I š¤”
Okay, I'm REALLY sorry, I CAN'T draw PERCY properly! Here he's more like 12, and I really couldn't draw the main character exactly as I saw him, so it's better to lower the curtain
continued in the next partš„¹
Imagine Percy dead and Poseidon holding his lifeless body in his hands š
Poseidon: Wow my son is amazing! He definitely deserves a break from all this questing nonsense
Hades: My son is the only worthy hero in the universe, no I don't take criticism
Zeus: My son called me unwise so I let him die
This is what Percy Jacksonās Poseidon be wearing
this is the most wholesome incorrect but still correct sea fam quote ever
Percy: You came to my graduation?
Poseidon: Of course I did! I'm proud of you.
Percy: But this is mortal stuff! I'm not saving the world or defeating Olympus's enemies.
Poseidon: That's true. But Percy, do you realize that you've put more effort into graduating from high school than saving the world? If it's that important to you, then it's important to me.
Poseidon: Besides, there's a reason why your sword converts to a pen form. I want you to know that I support you having interests and a life outside of fighting.
At first I wasn't going to involve any Mycenaean or Minoan related things in my kinda sorta superhero demigod au but I'm actually reconsidering.
I'm currently writing this scene were Percy ends up going on a mission but he sort of loses his shit after injecting something and I think I want the trigger to be because he has such origins.
So I started doing a little research and found out that there was (supposedly? idk how true it is) was a Minoan god known as Potidas who was essentially ruled over everything and like natural things, so he ruled over the earth, the sky, storms, etc.
And so I also found out that Poseidon (atleast maybe his name?) actually came from this god.
And of course you may or may not know about Mycenaean Poseidon who was a chthonic deity.
So I plan on having Percy be of such descent probably.
But I don't want to do this with just Percy. I want to do this with other demigods too, especially ones like Zeus who was associated with a Minoan God known as Velchanos and was associated with like vegetation but I don't know if I should do this with preexisting characters or make some new ones up to do it.
So I decided im just gonna, make a poll lol and the first one is gonna be for Zeus's kids. Jason isn't going to be on this list because he's Jupiter's kid and I want to have the distinction in this be pretty clear.
Ok, this has been bothering me for over a month now and I need to share it with other people. I really need to get it off my chest.
So, you know Percy Jackson's Greek Gods? Where he narrates the myths in his own way? Well, I wanted to talk about one particular moment in that book-one that involves Ares.
So if you don't know, a son of Poseidon (Halirrhothius) rapes Ares daughter. And then Ares kills him, and Poseidon is furious, so the latter demands a trial for Ares and the first ever Olympian trial is held. In the end Ares is acquitted AS HE RIGHTFULLY SHOULD BE.
All right, to get to the point-
First things first, Rick says that Alcippe didn't like Halirrhothius because, quote direct quote from the book- 'A son of Poseidon? Gross!'
What was the need for this? Really, tell me. There was no need for that, but Rick simply had to denigrate her just because. (cough cough misogyny cough cough)
It goes surprisingly fine for a Percy Jackson retelling until we come to the trial, where the story inevitably goes wrong.
Percy says that a fight between Poseidon and Ares would have been sweet because Poseidon would totally have owned that idiot in a fight.
Perseus Jackson, it does not matter if you say you're not defending your brother. You are actually indirectly defending a rapist by defending your father WHO'S DEFENDING HIM!
And later, he says that even though he agrees that Ares had the right to defend his daughter, he still thought that Poseidon should have beat the snot out of Ares because it would be fun to watch?
Wow, Percy. Wow, Rick. Wow, just WOW.
And you know what the saddest thing is?
This could have an amazing moment for Percy to step back, look at the situation and say, 'Hey, you know what? Even though I don't like Ares, I can't deny that he's a good guy sometimes. And my dad isn't always good, even if he also loves his kids, because he's defending a rapist. That's bad.'
That was a missed moment for self-reflection and character growth! That's what frustrates me so much.
EXACTLY. Rick's misogyny should be crystal clear to anyone with good media literacy and a good understanding of Greek Gods and myths. He somehow manages to destroy every Greek God-someone give him the Golden Raspberry award for his portrayal of the Greek Gods.
Whatever Rick doesn't like, Percy doesn't like. Honestly, I can see why some people would think that he's a Gary Stu-literally everyone seems to like him and those who don't are villains or bad side characters. It's pretty tiring.
Why would the gods abandon Greece-especially Athena abandon Athens? It makes no sense, but American superiority takes precedence to actual respect for another country's culture.
He most probably did use his brains on denigrating Athena. And there were totally ways to make Poseidon morally gray, even in Percy's POV (have him threaten Annabeth like Athena threatened Percy. It fits him more too.)
On a side note, I do think that it would be interesting to see Persephone and Demeter have a good relationship but have Demeter not like Hades because, you know, the whole kidnapping thing.
I mean, it's symbolic of course, but if you look at it from their POVs, Demeter would obviously dislike Hades because he kidnapped and kept her daughter from her for 4 months or a half a year.
Maybe have it so that Hades tries to please Demeter and is very apologetic to her? She would probably mellow out with time but she'd still be a little upset with him of course.
Just my thoughts.
One thing I find so interesting about the PJO fandom is how they actually accepted how Rick fucked up 90% of the goddesses. Even when he uses a version of a myth that specifically talks about men being idiots, he villainizes women. Like, no one complained about how fucked up is that he used the story of Hephaestus trying to rape Athena and turning it into a āpoor guy cried bc he was rejected by a girlā thing?
The true story is literally Hephaestus trying to rape Athena, she fights him off but his semen falls into her skirt and cleans it with a piece of cloth and tosses it into the ground (earth, which is Gaia) and from there, Erictonio is born. And Athena raised the child as her own even tho he was the product of the assault she suffered. The guy ruled Athens.
Rick turned it into Hephaestus falling in love with Athena and crying on her lap, making her reject and KICK him plus being disgusted by the tears and the dirt.
He also used all of Ovid versions he could possibly find to fuck Athena up. Arachne doesnāt happen with Greek writers and Medusa was never cursed (or assaulted) when we talk about the OG Myth. She was already born a monster and Athena only helps Perseus kill her bc yeah, Medusa killed people.
Also, Medusaās version by Ovid is a lot alike Cassandra of Troy story, and let me tell ya, Cassandra was cursed but it wasnāt by a woman. And when she was raped by Ajax, Athena made sure that he didnāt made it back to Greece.
Now Iām gonna talk about Demeter. Demeter, who had her daughter kidnapped, raped and imprisoned, and was turned into the typical āmother in law who hated son in law bc she thinks her daughter could do betterā when yeahā¦she has all the right to feel angry bc her daughter was KIDNAPPED.
Artemis doesnāt hate men and her followers also donāt hate men. Feminism isnāt about hating men.
Aphrodite. I cannot even describe how dirty they made Aphroditeās children. Like be fr one of her children helped build what it wouldāve been Rome. He was a fighter. And her cabin there is just so different of what she is truly like. They should have a lot of other powers.
Also, a lot of women from the books follows the same stereotype of āomg I hate makeup itās so girlish and Iād rather fightā like you can be feminine, wear makeup and STILL FIGHT. One doesnāt erase the other.
Another thing, but this one is about MOTHERS! I truly cannot understand the way Rick creates his women. Iām serious tho. Like, Iām sorry but sometimes it seems that his thing some goddesses (Athena, for example) are personal. The āabandoning Athensā thing, the āshouldāve chosen Poseidonā, the way he wrote her as being cold towards her kidsā¦in one of the versions, Athena was the one who saved Dionysus from Hera. She raised a child and made him a king even though he was the product of her almost rapist. She was there helping heroes all along. She fought for Odysseus for ten years.
Also, this fandom is incapable of seeing the difference between Minerva and Athena. Minerva gave Annabeth the mark, Athena had nothing to do with this. Annabeth is her favorite daughter, she made her architect of Olympus, protected her through her journey to find Luke and Thalia, disobeyed her fathers orders trying to help to find Annabeth, made battle plans with her and allā¦and she always claimed all of her children.
I think people just donāt like her bc she doesnāt trust Percy. And she shouldnāt. I love him, but Athena IS the goddess of wisdom after all and as such, it would be pretty dumb to trust a demigod that won a battle against the god of war when he was only twelve. Not to mention that everyone kinda thought the āpreserve or destroy Olympusā was on his hands. And he tortured a goddessā¦Iām sorry but she was pretty much right. Wouldnāt trust someone that had the power to fuck me and my family up either. She dint made the choice based on āomg I hate my rival and his childrenā even more so bc she was trained by one of his children and bunch of grandchildren. She made the choice based on what she thought was less risky.
If she was so against Percabeth, I can assure you she wouldāve killed Percy and probably wouldnāt even suffer much consequences. She admires some things about Percy but she was right about his flaw. And she also helped him during one of his quest to go to college. Does she loves the idea of the relationship? No. But thatās bc she is precisely the opposite of love. She doesnāt make decisions based on what her heart says, but on what her brain says. If she succumbs to the heart, then she would seize to be goddess of wisdom, reason and all of what she values. Thatās why she vowed to never marry.
And, as Helenist, I do not take the myths that seriously bc when we talk about religion, I have a clear mind that those myth were made by humans who used the gods as a tool to justify some of their actions, and I hate almost all of the retellings that those authors do, but is so wild to see how much power they have on society bc now I cannot see anything about the gods without someone saying shit about them. But I do know all about the myths and I gotta say, doesnāt make much sense to use a Roman author to talk about Greek Gods. He made them dirty. Also doesnāt make much sense to use this versions of Ovid but still change it to make it more sweet for the men. Poseidon and Athena didnāt spend that much time beefing, they even have a city together (Troezen) and she definitely doesnāt hate his children. Her best friend was literally his grandchild.
Safe to say that yāall should probably question Rick on how he treats women bc I was seeing the PJO series (the cast is amazing btw, safe to say that Leah/Annabeth is my fav) and by the looks of it, saying on how he changed Athenaās personality one more time, I legit think that Annie wonāt jump to save her friends on season 3, she will probably be pushed by her mother or whatever.
Another thing: apparently only the women that like and have a friendship with Percy are treated as cool. But thatās on the fandom, not the author.
I forgot to add one thing and Iām gonna fix the grammar later but the āthis is for childrenā excuse isnāt really valid considering that we saw Gabe being aggressive with Sally, we also saw Ares being a jerk to Clarisse (which also doesnāt make sense) and the story clearly states cheating, fights, death and a lot of other terrors. If youāre gonna use a rape version of a myth bc you chose to fuck a Goddess up, then you should state that the man is to blame. In the books we see Medusa saying she was Poseidonās girlfriend/loverā¦she was his lover on the og myth, not in the version Rick chose. In the version that he chose, she was clearly raped. But he erased that and replaced rapist with boyfriend. He couldāve chosen to do another path if he didnāt want to talk about sexual abuse, I can tell yāall a hundred of ways this could go, but he chose this path and changed it, favoring the man. Again.
He couldāve gone with the theogony and said what was there that basically is: she was a monster, BORN a monster, daughter of other two monsters, no one wanted to get close to her, but he did. They slept together in a camp of flowers.
Athena only enters the story wayyy after this. And, as yāall can see, no curse. Yet, he chose to go with the rape version were Medusa is a maiden, loyal to Athena, gets raped on Athenaās temple by Poseidon and Athena curses her. And what did the author do? He made this: Medusa, loyal to Athena, fell in love with Poseidon and they did things on her temple. Athena cursed her. Again erasing the menās fault.
The hate on Athena doesnāt make any sense at all. Yāall love some other male characters that donāt have a single sense of responsibility and possibly did everything wrong in the book. I saw people condemn Athena for her treatment of Deadalus when the guy literally killed his nephew bc he was more praised than him. And Athena gave him a mark that burned and did some shit to teach him a lesson. Poseidon wanted a trial to avenge his rapist son that was killed by Ares bc he tried to rape one of Ares daughters. A RAPIST. And Poseidon is treated like and angel bc what??? He likes Percy? Is his father and got him a gift? And Athena is being hated bc she isnāt his number one fan and her Roman part decided to give Annabeth a Mark? And mind you sheās just like that with him bc she knows more than everyone else and knows that he is dangerous. A good guy? Yes, Percy is the most amazing guy. Still dangerous. Still had the power to torture a goddess and win against the god of war. And she doesnāt dislike him, she dislikes his relationship with her daughter. And even so, she didnāt stop the relationship. So yeah I wonāt ever get why the women always get more hate than the men considering this.
Again, as a Helenist, I donāt take the myths seriously when I talk about the religion in general bc the Gods are superiors. They donāt have human flaws. But, as someone who knows about the myths, is safe to say I hate those stories that uses myths like that and turns it against the Goddesses and make them out to be the worst ever. All the gods deserved way better than what they got with those retellings.
All right, ok, LISTEN. I don't know who needs to hear this, but I'm pretty sure that some people do. It's ok to hate Percy Jackson because it depicts the Greek Gods in a terrible way. Rick Riordan has the creative license to write them however he wants, but it's still fine to be annoyed at how they're portrayed.
It's ok to hate the fact that PJO wasn't in Greece and that the explanation for why it was in America was terrible.
It's ok to hate the fact that Zeus, Hera, Ares, Athena and a whole lot of other gods were portrayed in a negative light.
It's ok to be furious because Ares is a bad parent in PJO.
It's ok to tear your hair out over the way Artemis and her hunt were written.
It's ok to be angry that Athena had children with mortals when she was a virgin goddess in the myths.
It's ok to be angry that Hades cheated on Persephone in PJO (even if you like Nico and Bianca and Hazel. It's fine to do both).
It's ok to be angry that Persephone and Demeter don't have a good relationship and that Demeter is largely painted to be an overbearing, helicopter mother.
It's ok to resent the fact that Artemis, the former's hunt and Hestia, the goddess of the hearth and another virgin goddess, were portrayed as literal CHILDREN despite there being no reason for Rick to do that.
It's ok to be annoyed with the fact that Poseidon was sanitized when he could've been such a morally gray character.
It's fine to cry about the fact that Aphrodite was largely reduced to a stereotypical, modern cartoonish version of RomANtiC lOvE when she was the goddess of LOVE, not just ROMANCE, SEX AND BEAUTY.
It's ok to like Trials of Apollo but want to smash things because Apollo was depicted as an incompetent dumbass. It's ok to seethe at the fact that Zeus was portrayed as an abusive father to Apollo when in the myths, he was quite loving.
It's ok to do this because PJO is one of the if not THE MOST major media that depicts Greek Mythology. It's basically a Greek Mythology fanfiction MODERN AU. And yes, it's helped thousands of children and adults and made them feel better, and it's almost as popular as Harry Potter for a reason. But it's still fine for Greek people, Hellenistic Pagans and even people who aren't Greek or Hellenistic to be angry with how Rick Riordan is continuously bastardising the Greek Gods and making them look more and more of a joke.
A lot of people who got into Greek Mythology used PERCY JACKSON as their first reference, and while Percy Jackson is a great start for venturing into Greek Mythology- PLEASE, PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THAT PJO GODS ARE NOT AS ACCURATE AS THE ORIGINAL.
POSEIDON IS NOT THAT GOOD.
HADES IS NOT SO VILLANOUS.
ATHENA IS NOT SO COLD AND UNCARING. SHE'S A MAIN PATRON OF HEROES AND RARELY ABANDONS THEM EVEN AFTER THEY'VE COMMITTED WAR CRIMES
DIONYSUS IS NOTHING LIKE HIS PJO COUNTERPART.
ARES IS A GOOD FATHER.
DEMETER AND PERSEPHONE HAD A BEAUTIFUL, LOVING RELATIONSHIP.
HERA IS NOT SO HORRIBLE. SHE HAD HER GOOD MOMENTS
ZEUS WAS NOT THAT BAD IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY AND HE WAS ALSO A CARING FATHER. HE SENT BLOOD RAIN DOWN TO MOURN HIS SON SARPEDON WHO WAS FATED TO DIE.
I know this sounds like I hate PJO, but I really do like the series. It's fine to like PJO and its characters while also disliking how the gods were portrayed. It's ok.
You know how Athena disapproves of and threatened Percy? Wellā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.DO THAT WITH POSEIDON AND ANNABETH! Let them meet. Let Annabeth squirm. Let Poseidon smile, but let it not quite reach his suddenly cold green eyes.
Let him size her up, and let her be found wanting. LET HIM SILENTLY THREATEN HER NOT TO HIT PERCY AGAIN!
Let him disapprove of Annabeth's nickname for him! Let Percy defend it, defend Annabeth from Poseidon!
Let Poseidon tell Percy that if things don't work out (in a way that he implies that he hopes it doesn't work out) that he can hook up with a sea nymph or naiad or something! This was SUCH a missed opportunity to show that Poseidon loves Percy and thinks that he can do better than a plain daughter of Athena! (Or at least Poseidon thinks so).
Can someone write this, please? I would, but I already have something else going on.
Yes, you heard me right. You know that PJO kind of sanitises Poseidon a lot? Yeah, Percy's his son, but we could still get a few moments where Poseidon is the bad guy. I mean, this was a huge missed opportunity for telling us how bad the gods were as parents. Wellā¦ā¦ā¦..imagine that Poseidon was annoyed that Zeus broke the oath, so he sent monsters after Thalia to show Zeus that this was not a good idea. It fits him perfectly and then Percy and Thalia could have even more angst (which is resolved at the end). And Poseidon can get ahold of monsters-don't tell me he can't.
I just found out that, according to Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, if a god broke their Styx vow, they were rendered insensible for a year and then banished from divine society for nine years.
Imagine that in Percy Jackson. I know that Rick couldn't do it due to plot reasons, and Zeus was too powerful to be banished, but imagine Zeus helping Beryl raise Thalia and adjusting to being mortal, and then maybe they have Jason who's fully mortal.
And just imagine Poseidon helping Sally raise Percy. Oh my god, the fanfiction ideas with this one would be amazing. WRITERS, DO YOUR THING!
Makes me think about the moment where Percy actually died for the first time i.e when he bathed in Styx. It's said to be a rebirth of sort. Those who survive it burn away all their mortality except at a single point. The Curse of the Styx is essentially meant to be for a lifetime because the Styx is about unbreakable oaths, and the curse is an oath of sort. Terrible power for a terrible weakness. But we know that Percy subverted the Curse when he passed into Roman lands by Juno's intervention. He escaped his fate of a terrible death, escaped the Styx's Curse and broke his vow. We know promises made on the Styx when broken lead to catastrophic outcomes [maybe a bit more bearable for gods but not for others]. I have nothing but pure vibes to go off of here but what if this is the Styx's punishment?
She can't punish Poseidon or any of the big three gods directly, so she settles for their mortal halves, their demigod children. Unlike the others, Poseidon loves his child the most. Killing Percy by using Poseidon's own domain would be enough to scar Poseidon for eternity. Percy had a chance to escape Styx's wrath by keeping faithful to the Curse, but he too, like his father defied his vow, and now he has to pay the price for it.
Percy's suicidal tendencies will keep getting worse, and he will keep looking for ways to die. One day, he will find one, and chances are he will drown to death. Maybe not by Poseidon's rivers then by one of the Underworld's. Because the Styx keeps grudges and she has been waiting to collect on this one for a long time.
It might be so for every big three child. Cause there's a vague pattern here. It might not be intentional by Riordan but it's there. Personal headcanon. A bit morbid than usual but I really can't get the symbolism out of my head.
Thalia has died once already but she didn't stay dead.
Hazel has also died once but didn't stay dead either.
Nico has, in a sense, embraced death once (pomegranate seeds induced death trance), and maybe soon, it will embrace him back.
Bianca is already dead. [Only after Bianca's death was Hazel resurrected]
Jason is now dead, too. [Thalia was dead till events of the Titan's Curse and was later given Artemis's blessing. So, immunity to natural death but she could still be killed. But now Jason's dead so does that mean Thalia is exempt?]
Did Thalia, Nico, and Hazel pay for their safety with the life of their siblings? The question is, will Styx be satisfied with one sacrifice per each god, or does she want them all?
It's just a vague theory, but it's been stuck in my head for so long. Might as well pester everyone else with it, too.
@helenofsparta2 I kind of really want to hear your thoughts on this.
love when percy's suicidal and he gets upset that he can't drown. dude you have other options
hi hello! i hope you're having a good day
i love reading your writing and analysis/takes on percy jackson ( the character and franchise ), and i wanted to know your opinion on perpollo. just anything you have to say on the topic. i find it so interesting as a concept itself and when it's explored.
I am sorry for the delay. I hope you and everyone else who sent me asks has found the pinned post regarding my hiatus. I will answer as many asks as I can in this week but I have exams coming up so I won't be very active for a while after this.
Back to the point, I really like the possibilities that the Perpollo ship presents. I know I have not made any Perpollo centric posts but given its popularity and how many prominent blogs have analyzed it along with some of my mutuals @ackerlikesmen , @deliajackson , @hermesmyplatonicbeloved I really haven't felt the need to. They will probably have great stuff to add on or correct in my analysis.
I have mixed opinions on the ship. My parameters for analyzing this ship may not align with you, but I just feel better when factual and practical nuances are considered. This is one of the few ships where the cons can be used as tropes to further bolster the pros of the ship. So let's start with that:
PROS:
1.It's a mutually respectful relationship with no toxicity.
Apollo greatly respects Percy even before the events of Trials of Apollo. He votes to save Percy in the Titan's Curse and also actively helps him and begins respecting him after he saves Artemis.
In Singer of Apollo, Apollo tells Percy that he is Apollo's favorite hero.
In the Hidden Oracle, when Apollo realizes that he is human, he wants Percy to be his master. Apollo the ( God of Ego) thinks that if anyone is worthy of commanding him it's Percy.
When Meg is being hesitant about trusting demigods, and Apollo wants to prove that some of them are good and reliable, he picks Percy as the prime example. Not anyone else of the Seven or even his own children but Percy.
In their initial conversation where Apollo is still repulsively high handed and egoistic and considers Percy declining him as self-centered he doesn't complain too much on it an even follows up by the thought that Percy has done him much goodwill. And this is before his transformation so Percy is that influential that even pre ToA Apollo can't really pick faults at him.
Now Percy began with disliking Apollo as much as he dislikes any gods. But he does remember Apollo thanking him at the end of Titan's Curse and declines Apollo's offer for free Archery lessons.
Percy acknowledges the change in Apollo and respects Apollo for it. Despite his annoyance Percy is one of the few to help him initially and consistently throughout the series.
2. Common family/friends circle and culture
Initially, one would question why this matters, but I think it's generally a comforting space to be involved with someone who knows your roots and is on good terms with your family. It's both wise and fosters a stronger bond. It's even more reassuring and I dare say easier when a couple shares similar cultures/family roots. It automatically trumps the trial and error phase of adjustment with another person's family and cultural norms.
Percy is a family oriented person and therefore likes that Apollo respects and thinks highly of his mother and his family.
Apollo is despite his progress, someone who considers status quo important, and he appreciates that Percy is such a high profile person on Olympus and obviously the most influential out of all demigods. Plus, he is a sea prince.
Percy is on good terms with Apollo Cabin and Will, Kayla, Austin and formerly Michael all respect Percy and are fond of him. Percy despite being mid battle and exhausted from his fight stopped everything and looked through the bridge rubble to try and save Michael and retrieve his body.
Percy is the only male demigod Artemis acknowledges and likes and he has saved her before and they are on extremely good terms. Apollo loves his sister very much so it's unlikely he would accept someone who wasn't on good terms with Artemis. No other demigod has that advantage.
Percy and Apollo also have an exclusive friend in common being Rachel, who is Apollo's Oracle and Percy's very good friend. In fact, Rachel was led to being the Oracle by meeting Percy and Apollo adores Rachel.
Percy is possibly the demigod that has been through the most hardships and Apollo has had a taste of what demigod hardship is like so he knows what it is like being in Percy's situation. And there's full understanding there.
Percy knows many gods and is aware of godly ways so he isn't a novice to divinity or the world of gods or what gods do in general. So, it's unlikely that Apollo's functions, roles and responsibilities will cause any misunderstandings between them.
3. There is no god mortal power gap that usually exists.
Percy is a prince of the Sea and Poseidon's favorite child. He has also been offered godhood before and is hailed throughout Olympus as it's Savior twice. Essentially, he is on equal footing with Apollo.
He might be mortal but given his high profile status in Olympus and in both camps, Apollo [yes Apollo already absolutely respects and thinks highly of Percy] would not be able to mistreat or hurt Percy in any major ways.
4. They have similar goals of bettering lives of demigods and are both in positions to do so and therefore collaborate frequently even in their work life. This is healthy in a relationship.
5. With Sally's own affair with Poseidon, Percy and Apollo dating create a nice sort of generational parallel.
6. Percy respects the domains Apollo stands for, and that's very important, I think to a god. Percy is grateful to healers, is friends with the Oracle and is Rachel's protector to some extent, is fond of music and is fairly artistic (writer as he does write/ narrate the whole orignal series himself) on his own. Though he sucks at Archery, it seems to amuse Apollo rather than anger him, and he offers Percy archery lessons from himself, so that could be a fun dynamic.
7. Percy and Apollo are very complementary, and their dynamic can really help both of them.
Percy has extreme self esteem issues and Apollo, proud and egoistic as he is can help Percy develop self assuredness and inner confidence. Apollo is narcissistic without understanding how damaging his narcissism can be. He learns about as much from his Trials so he can and I think he would like to learn from Percy his compassion and humility. I think they could really help each other and match each other quite well.
They are both very open-minded, so they can always try out new interests that the other likes and can develop completely new hobbies together. They both like not having important tasks thrust upon them, lol so they can find ways to dodge godly affairs together.
CONS:
1.Apollo's lovers often meet disastrous ends either at his hands or another's.
Percy is the one person who deserves to have a very relaxing and enjoyable life devoid of any excess trouble after all he's been through. So another death prophecy might not be something Percy wants and given how tormented Apollo is by memories of his past lovers, another relationship might not be the best idea especially with one he thinks of so highly. Apollo might intentionally stay away from Percy to not bring him any misfortune.
2. Percy dislikes gods.
No matter what, after all that's been done to demigods and all the wars they have suffered are direct results of godly mistakes. He generally tolerates gods and likes only Hestia and Poseidon and has antagonistic take on all other gods, rightfully so.
Therfore Percy might not be at all interested in pursuing a relationship with a god, changed or otherwise. He might have come to see eye to eye with many gods and he clearly respects Apollo now, it might still be a bit too far of a leap for him to consider getting together with a god.
3. Percy wants a quiet and peaceful life
Apollo loves grand things and grand gestures. He also loves being the center of attention as you know he is quite literally the Sun God. It might not align well with Percy's mindset for thea future or Apollo's mindset for a relationship.
-------------------------------------------------------
There can be a compromise found for all of these. And they all make for good fic ideas.
For the first one,Apollo being extra careful towards Percy's safety or considering the threat of Apollo's own enemies targeting Percy and making arrangements accordingly might help along with Percy's own reassurances as a powerful demigod.
Secondly, Percy might be convinced through seeing things with Apollo's eyes that even those inside Olympian systems suffer the wrath or Zeus regularly and chafe under the chains of ancient and archaic rules. He might decide to help them so that they can better help their own children. And he has made exceptions for certain gods before. Like Hestia, Pan and his father. So it's not far fetched to think that Apollo could also be potentially added to the list.
Lastly, Apollo might make Percy realize that wanting a peaceful and quiet life doesn't mean he should give up perks of enjoying his powers or his status and can and should be able to experience the joys of both.
That's my honest thoughts on Perpollo. I like them. I like their dynamic. I certainly have enjoyed my fair share of Perpollo fics and they could make a great pair together. But regardless of that, they can really help and understand each other. I love and I mean absolutely love the fics where Apollo hypes Percy up. I need more of those fics so would love recommendations. Also, fellow greek mythology enthusiasts, feel to chime in with obscure Apollo facts.
I absolutely love and agree with this idea. Thank-you for tagging me. I have, I think, read one fanfiction where a similar thing happens, but it's Amphitrite judging her.
If I were to write it, at least a bit from Poseidon's pov, then it would be somewhat like this when it comes to his opinions on Annabeth. I think I will write another part for his conversation with Annabeth. Consider this a preview to their confrontation in the next part.
[POSEIDON]
One might not think so, but Poseidon considers himself to be a patient god. Not a calm god, no but certainly a patient one, especially when it comes to those who have wronged him. Of course, given his status as an Elder God and the King of Atlantis, none usually dare. That, however, leaves him with his children's enemies to deal with.
Love to a god is a far more enduring concept than it is to a mortal and hence it is equally rare for genuine love to exist during a god's eternal life but Poseidon can firmly attest to the fact that he loves his children, immortal ones, demigod ones and even the monstrous children, in his own way. Percy, perhaps he loves most of all when his demigod children are considered or even his other children. He has told Percy as much before , on his birthday too, in some almost human attempt to make up for the loss of his presence through Percy's childhood. Though his cyclops and his subjects were always there to look after him, he would not leave his child defenseless, especially his child, with Sally defenseless.
However, after the incident with the repulsive man Sally married, Poseidon has come to see the error of his ways, the dangers that even mere humans could possess to his precious son. Ever since the quest with the bolt, he has done all to subtly help his son through his many quests, he would help outright if Percy prayed to him but his son takes after Sally just as much as he takes after him, and hence it is not in his nature to ask for help. Regardless, Poseidon has done all he can to support him from the sidelines.
He thought he had made it clear to his son how important he was to him and how dearly Poseidon cared for the boy but apparently not well enough for his son has started a relationship with the child of Athena.
Poseidon had not much of an opinion of her outside her companionship to Percy after all children of the wisdom goddess are never worth noticing. But as children of Athena often did, the girl made a grave error of insulting his son, Tyson, and even Perseus as well. During that time, Perseus himself intervened, so Poseidon stayed his hand.
Yet Percy, his boy, seemed to not understand the gravity of the girl's behavior towards him. She dared to physically lay a hand on Percy, on his son, a true prince of the sea when she herself was a mere demigod. She even had the audacity to demean him verbally. It is not often Poseidon feels so enraged and wrathful. He would have struck her dead if not for certain factors. Foremost, for Perseus's sake, he had stayed his hand. The second reason was that Poseidon knew the girl would be of use yet. He used to be Delphi's master long before Apollo, after all.
He had obviously withheld his help from the girl during her quest in the Labyrinth, his focus solely on Perseus. He had promptly sent Hephaestus to that accursed island to get his son out as soon as he learned of it. It was only Hephaestus's fault for sending his son to that forge.
He was rewarded for his patience when the girl played a megaer role in helping Perseus survive the treacherous Styx and yet again when the girl took a fatal blade for Perseus during the war, not that Percy would have needed it. His son's senses would have helped him, but the girl's sacrifice was appreciated. If she continued to learn her place, he just might allow her to live.
His son had survived and triumphed through his keen leadership and strength of mind. It had all worked out, almost. Poseidon was not surprised when his son denied immortality. He was Sally's child through and through. Too good for this world. He felt bittersweet pain at his son's choice, but he knew Percy was made for greater things that fate had more in store. And he had time to show Percy the joys of immortality and to truly show him how fickle his bond with the wisdom child was, how exploitative it was on her end.
But then his son chose to seek a relationship with the daughter of Athena, and Poseidon felt silent fury and a pit of dread. An inkling of history repeating. And this particular history had left him grieving and enraged and his family broken for a long time. He did not speak of it often, but Perseus reminded him of his only grandchild, Pallas, dearly. How he had loved the child and how he loves Percy just as much. Yet the wisdom goddess, the pathetic Athena, has gotten his precious granddaughter killed even after he had welcomed her into his realm, and Pallas had considered Athena her dearest companion. Now her cursed progeny was involved with his son! He would have remedy this and he would soon, he almost had a scheme in the works.
But then the ill works of Gaea and the machinations of Hera left him spiraling and fragmented. At war with his own self. That had caused him to lose sight of everything. Locked in Olympus, away from his kingdom and his son, unable to feel Percy's presence and unable to help.
His son, his beloved Percy, had fallen into Tartarus and all because of that accursed child of Athena. Though his loyal and perfect son would do the same for any other of those demigods, Poseidon knew that well and yet again lamented his son's fatal flaw and compassionate nature. It had further cut him off from his son. He had much to make up for and he would soon.
After all was over, after the horrors Perseus had faced and survived through, as he knew he would for there was not any world in which Poseidon could bear to see his favored and precious mortal child dead. One day, perhaps he would have to face that reality, but he knew it was far away. His son was destined for things beyond mortality.
He had, after that, decided with Sally to take his son to Atlantis for respite and much needed peace. Him alone, that is. Surprisingly, his son had agreed readily but not before wanting him to meet with the Chase girl.
So here it was his true opportunity to show the girl her worth, her place when compared to his favored son, a true Sea prince, his precious Percy. He would make it quick and clear. He had no intentions of letting the wisdom goddess or her cursed progeny ruin his precious time with his son with their foul presence.
(Part 2 in a few days time.)
WHO HERE THINKS THAT WE SHOULD'VE GOTTEN MORE ANNABETH AND POSEIDON MOMENTS? I just feel like this was SUCH a missed opportunity. To show that Poseidon loves Percy and thinks that he can do better than a plain daughter of Athena! (At least Poseidon thinks so).
Can someone write this, please? I would, but I already have something else going on.
I wish Rick would do this in the show.

PERCY
Percy breathed deeply as soon as he felt the air of Montauk, with its rich and salty tang surround him. The anxiety he felt under his skin calmed a little as the waves happily lapped against his feet. He couldn't help the nostalgic smile. Rachel joined him soon after as he instinctively tensed. She must have noticed it because she remained silent, letting him work his thoughts out for himself, and he had never been more grateful for anything else.Ā
A wave roared in his ears as his thoughts spiraled, and he had to suppress the sensation.Ā He did not need another flood on his hands. The past few months had been rough, and Percy's powers had been all over the place, and he couldn't reinĀ them in no matter what he did. His Dad and Triton had both tried to make it better, but ever since the Pit , Percy had a feeling it would be permanent. Before then, he had felt as close to the sea as he possibly could. He had been able to call upon it, however, and whenever he pleased, but now it was something else, something more. The sea, the ocean, was under his skin, raging and churning for a release. Another reason why he was here.
He has been at home, a rare moment of calm with his mom and Paul. After all the trouble he had made them go through with his nightmares,Ā lack of sleep, out of control powers, and not to mention his paranoia. Fates must have seen that and gone: You thought, LOL NO. Because the next second, his phone had buzzed with a text from Rachel: I saw it. He didn't need further explanation than that.He shot her a quick reply, turned off his phone and grabbed Paul's keys. Before any of them could ask , he was out of the door, phone in his pocket. Yes,Ā he had begun using a phone. Because they stayed away now, the monsters ,because he was the one who was-Ā
"Percy, can you help keep the sand in place?" He was cut off from his darker thoughts by Rachel's words and on instinct he complied. He had barely been able to hear what she said over how soothing her voice sounded. He could feel the sand keep itself in place in response to his will; Rachel had a habit of drawing in the sand, a habit he really really liked. He had once set off waves upon waves over her sand drawings just to see her awed reaction at finding her drawing undisturbed.Ā He had liked that too. He had spent the entire day showcasing different stuff he could do with his powers to her. Annabeth and Thalia would have called him a showoff but he had enjoyed it and Rach had too so he didn't see a problem.
She wasn't in awe like the first time she had seen it but she was still smiling and he would do just about anything to see that soft smile. Rachel had always laughed a lot, always kept a very expressive face which he had learned was her small way of rebelling against her father who had done everything he could to forcefully turn Rachel into some poised lady. "Like a mannequin" she had once told him and he had felt a surge of anger and a vicious need to strangle the man.Ā But he was glad he could do something, even something so small that could genuinely make her smile. It made him smile too.
"Wouldn't want to disturb the new masterpiece." Percy told her as he watched her scrunch her nose, something he thought was really adorable and very endearing; which was tame compared to the usual mess of feelings he felt around her; Somedays she looked so beautiful, it was hard to look at her. Looking at her like this, at them like this, he wished he could keep this moment going forever.Ā Him finally free from wars with only college to worry about, and the Oracle now having gone silent with Apollo being punished or whatever. But he wasn't the same, not after all that and he didn't know if Rachel had it in her to keep looking at him after what she had seen, after all, Annabeth's wailing screams were still fresh in his mind, a scar that wouldn't fade but Rachel's fear would break him, he knew that much. So he closed his eyes, took a deep breath and waited for everything to go wrong as it always did.Ā
RACHEL
To Rachel, he had always looked out of this world. Ever since she had met him on the Hoover dam. Steady gaze, sea green eyes, a flash of blue. Percy had been her gateway to a whole new world ever since. But today gazing at the sea, his eyes softly glowing, the way he stood, he looked like something more. Rachel would have said he looked like a God, but she had met Gods, more so she had felt the essence of GodsĀ taking over her to communicate through her, yet Percy had always felt like more. She had seen the way he had kept everyone at bay after the war, all of the seven, even Grover. Even Annabeth, especially Annabeth. She knew they had called things off soon after they had reunited in New Rome. She had seen it after all. But Percy could never keep her at bay, no more than she could keep him. They had seen and known things about each other through their visions, things so intimate, in a way no one ever could or ever should. Even when the Oracle's power was out of control, she could always rely on it to show her Percy, where he was, what he did or was about to do. Ever since she had met him, he had become her anchor. All her dreams started and ended with visions of him. She knew it was like that for him, too, at least sometimes. They had shared dreams before. She had really liked it, having him there. Because Rachel had been afraid, there was a lot to fear even in her dreams, but if Percy was there , everything would be alright. She would be safe, always. Even her father had accepted that.Ā
So she and Percy had done what they always did. Sit together in silence doing their own things occasionally talking about the most random of things, a lot of words left unsaid but understood. Until yesterday when she had seen him in the pit, seen everything unfold in the pit. Rachel wasn't sure if she could understand it allĀ even though she had been learning up on Greek lore and such and despite Chiron telling her ,"Some things are beyond the realm of possibility Ms.Dare." She would always believe in her own eyes, in what she saw for the sake of all the times she had not and how it had cost her. She had been afraid, she had been shaking, and she had been crying which always happened after a violent vision but this time it wasn't the vision that set it off. The raw fear and worry gripping her heart was not for herself but all for Perseus Jackson. The things he went through, his screams, his desperation, how close he had come to death, the heart wrenching way his face had contorted when he saw Annabeth's horrified face. She hadn't been able to shake it off, not the tears nor the shivering. Until she couldnāt stop the urge to talk to him. I saw it, she had texted him, her fingers shaky knowing she couldn't trust herself to speak. It hadn't stopped until his reply a few long moments after , which had felt like forever then. Montauk. I will pick you up.Ā
Ā Now here they were, with her drawing the most inane things and him keeping the sand in place for her. She had always loved that. The way he cherished all her drawings and her words,Ā prophetic or otherwise. She could see him warring with himself, his powers growing stronger than ever; the reason why they were at the sea. She could wait for him to be ready, to be okay with having this conversation, she didn't want to push him, she never would. She was alright even if they didn't speak a word of it and instead spent the whole day here, like this, at peace.
He must have been resigned to having this talk because his voice turned soft as he asked, "What did you see, Red?" Her heart did the little dance it always did when he called her that . For all his love of the color blue he had ways said called her Red softly and fondly. She wished she could have controlled herself better, stopped the tears threatening to spill as she muttered just as softly,Ā "Everything." She managed to choke out. Now they would talk in fears and in truths and a litany of promises, of assurances which would have to be enough.
"Why are you here then?" Why are you not running away in fear, in horror like they all do.
Labored breaths mingled with wavering voices.
"Where else is there to go? And I wanted to be here." Where could I go but to you who knows all of me and who I know all of. I am not afraid. I want to be here, Perce.Ā
Choked tears, heavy voices, with emotions and impulses.
"I am not okay. I will never be okay ever again, Red ."Ā I am a monster now, and I will always be a monster.
Waves thrashed as the sea churned on itself.Ā
"You don't have to be okay. You just need to be alive, to be willing to live. It will get betterĀ because you have to make it better. Everyone else is like that too, Perce."Ā Ā You are not a monster, you are human, the best of humans. If you are the monster, then the world is hell, full of devils. But you are not. It's alright and it will be okay. You have to believe it will, with me, with everyone else.Ā
Calm words, a chant, a prophecy.
"You saw it all, you know what I did, how I enjoyed it, Rach. Donāt defend me." I know what I am, you don't have to fool yourself into believing something else, Red.
The sea raged and raged.Ā
"It was hell, you were in hell, you were going through the worst of situations, you were going to die, Annabeth was going to die, you were being tortured. Of course you were happy to get the upper hand. You didn't cross some line, Percy, Perseus, you held back infact. You showed mercy." You gave everything to save Annabeth, to save everyone. You have given so much too much and you are still so good.
The waves toppled over one another.Ā Strongly then, slowly.
Sea green eyes finally met emerald ones. A look full of nothing and everything as long left unsaid words beat against each other, the waves of the sea matching the pace.Ā
Her words, fears bared for him to see, as his own were.
"You should be the one angry, I couldn't help you, I couldn't help anyone, save anyone."Ā Rachel was the one who had been useless through all of it. All she had done was deliver a message Annabeth had sent and worry and worry and worry about Percy,Ā the camp and the fate of the world.Ā The gift broke down when they needed it the most and she had tried and tried to will it to work, to start. She had started with prayers to Apollo and then ended with curses.
"That's not true, Red. You told Reyna what she needed to do to unite the camps, to face Gaea. You delivered the message. In a way your prophecy saved us all, Red." Percy was sure they couldn't have made it without Rachel, they never did when it came to great prophecies. And deep down he couldn't help the relief that she hadn't been roped into a fight or a quest. She had sacrificed enough already.Ā
The waves thrashed once, twice, thrice more before dissolving into a harmonic calm.
PERCY
That was how he had found himself kissing Rachel.Overwhelmed and high on emotions, the both of them. He would have said more, thought this through, but he couldn't think with her soft lips moving against his own.
He relished in the familiarĀ warmth of it and he didn't want to let go.
Sloppy makeout, sand drawings and surfing, both of them together, happy and relaxed for the first time in a long time. That's how the day had gone and Percy couldn't help but be giddy about this, about them. It was one of the best and happiest days he had ever had and maybe he was wrong about never being okay; he had a feeling with Rachel by his side along with his family, both mortal and godly, he would be okay,Ā eventually. He had to be.
As Percy took Rachel back to the car, both of them looked back and he was sure they had the same hunch, the same shared feeling: There would be trouble ahead with newer prophecies,Ā with Gods, and they both had a lot of explaining to do to his family, to her family, to a probably human Apollo butĀ it could all wait a little while longer,Ā a bit more till there were no words left unsaid.
Post-tartarus Percy and Annabeth and even post tartarus Nico weren't written well at all. Tartarus makes them manic, always on edge, jumpy. This is PTSD and it doesn't just go away. Not to mention, they lost Bob and Damasen.
Yes, sure, one could argue there weren't many opportunities for Rick to explore how Tartarus changed Percy in Heroes of Olympus series. There still should have been mentions.
Rick focused on Bob and Damasen part for a bit and then never again. It's like after Tartarus arc, Percy and Annabeth were back to being themselves, which is such a character assassination. Here are a few ways in which I think Tartarus changed Percy:
PART 1-PERCY
Percy becomes hypervigilant at all times.
He can barely sleep, and whenever he does, he is always affected by terrible nightmares.
He feels extremely guilty about not being able to save Bob and Damasen and hence is now extremely protective of his other friends and family.
He no longer feels at all safe in his cabin or at camp and avoids it since Hera abducting him from there led to the whole thing.
He spends large amounts of time away from the camp and avoids other demigods because he is constantly afraid he is going to hurt someone.
Percy only ever feels truly safe by the sea .
Percy knows how delicate Sally and Paul act around him, and he hates it and hates himself for it. They don't say a word even when his screams wake them up. In fact, they just sit beside him, holding his hand and letting him cry or scream. Mostly, he just finds himself shutting down.
Poseidon also makes his own protective tendencies known, and when Percy gets too manic to stay anywhere, he whisks him away to Atlantis to calm him and give him comfort.
Every night, Percy finds a place to look at the stars and repeat the same message : Bob says hello.
He becomes an entirely different person when attacked when fighting monsters. A killing machine. It scares most people especially Annabeth.
Percy becomes a lot more aloof and likes being by himself (so he doesn't have to bear the responsibility for protecting someone other than him for a while)
He becomes a bit more pensive and talks less than usual.
He hates his own power but doesn't shy away from using it in dangerous situations. But this leaves him with a long internal struggle.
He begins to think of himself as monstrous.
He can't feel at ease without feeling Riptide in his grasp.
Somedays the nightmares, the memories get so worse that he has to make himself bleed to take the worst of it away.
He becomes skeptical of most things: people, and food and objects.
Everyone makes sure not to bring Calypso in the same room as him lest he kill her then and there. It takes him a long time to forgive her.
Percy is now so good at sensing monsters that he is always ten steps ahead of everyone.
The worst of it is Percy's constant need to fight something. He spars with multiple strong opponents to at least make it a bit challenging for him. It makes him feel like Ares, and he hates it.
Percy's first true genuine smile is when he finds out he is going to have a baby sister.
Will cover Annabeth's and then Nico's in the next parts. This is enough ptsd for all of us for one day.

"do You ever dream about mom?"
Poseidon probably panicking inside cause this is their first conversation.
