there's too much lore behind them to explain here and now, but what you need to know most is that bloom (the iterator) adopted and then created teal, in that exact order. (and eventually went comatose for unrelated reasons, but that's less relevant)

anyway. hi. phylarch sky-fire pearl-teller. chieftain equivalent for the unusually intelligent scavengers that live mostly undiscovered in a nearly barren arctic wasteland that holds many secrets... also i spent far too long on those eartlers but it was so worth it.

im finally done oh my void. this is freedom of flight! my uh. only oc who i did not orgainse the color palette for. that's not my job. anyway!!! i really like how they came out considering i dont really draw iterators like ever. but they're very bird based so their puppet doesn't really look all that segmented. they are so feathers. thank you jaga for suggestions on accessories !!!

And yeah i agree Pebbles deserves a lil bit more love after what he's been through
looking at moon's situation, I think it's possible. at least to an extent.
with her umbilical cable being completely severed, her having been mostly reduced to her puppet, etc.
the issue with the whole freedom thing is that the puppet needs at least some connection to the can to survive. if moon's can were dead, or her puppet entirely disconnected, she wouldn't be there.
but she is alive, despite the severed cable.
so I think the explanation and solution here is the weak wireless connection she seems to have with, yk, the rest of herself. so, hypothetically, a freed puppet would be able to roam however far that connection reaches (as long as power isn't an issue, and they're taking a few neurons along with them).
well, that's if they're happy with either crawling around like some sort of feral creature, or tediously learning to walk on feet that weren't made for it, and can accept that they may be unable to directly communicate with their can ever again unless they're able to reattach themselves.
I don't think the arm would be much of an issue. with the functions it seems to have, they could just as well be performed by something else.
and that's that. but there might be a completely different way, that technically doesn't even involve getting out. some advanced drone shenanigans, perhaps.

how do you think an iterator would Actually be able to Go Off The String. because as fun as it is to imagine them just prying off the umbilical learning to walk and wandering away, i don't think the puppet would be able to survive without the umbilical (power source and whatnot)
so How Would It Be Achieved

I am a huge fan of biology (even if still new to it), and despite all the jokes people make, nobody's very far off on the Rot- and I'm amazed that even in-game evidence points to it too.
Though I think other interpretations are real neat as well! Think o this more of an analysis for fun than concrete lore stuff whatever.

Me and a friend have been developing this conlang thing for use in co-op play, both for immersion and so we don’t need to constantly pause to type things. I call it slugsign :-)
I should note that neither of us know ANYTHING about language structure or conlanging, we just developed it naturally lol.
some grammar notes:
-’punctuation’ style signs (such as ‘question’, ’attention’, ’relax’) come before the rest of the sentence. this is for clarity of intent
-’relax’ can be used to initiate longer, more complex conversations
-signs are VERY position specific. the limitations of the medium make a lot of signs look similar, so using the right starting and ending positions are important.
-’region’ specifies which region you’re referring to by the direction of your arm waggling, and the regions adjecent to the one you’re currently in. For example if you were in industrial complex and wanted to refer to chimney canopy, you’d waggle upwards.
