With his trinkets, oscar makes a replica of the lamp. Problem is, he doesn’t remember which one is the real one until someone takes it and it get bigger.
Kleptomaniac Oscar
Oscar is a kleptomaniac. He doesn’t notice when he does it. His aunt compensated this by getting beads, pretty stones, and other small things. He learned how to do crafts with small items and he sells them next to his aunt’s stall on market days.
This makes life interesting when he joins RNJR+Q at Haven. Lots of little things go missing, dust, scrolls, lien. When they go looking for them and ask Oscar to help them look he looks confused until they start describing small things. Then to their confusion he starts patting himself down. He pulls more out of his pockets than they’d realized was missing, including Qrow’s flask. He apologizes and explains what his aunt had done and asks them to keep an eye on him because he doesn’t mean to steal anything, he really just can’t help it.
Nora thinks it’s hilarious and likes to take him on walks near prejudiced people. Ren helps Oscar return most of the things he takes. Jaune and Ruby (and later Yang, Blake and Weiss) get small trinkets (of various price and durability) to leave around for him. The first time he empties his pockets to find fistfulls of dust flakes and painted nuts and bolts he freaks out and tries to return them. Yang just laughs and asks his favorite color and Weiss hands him a bunch of containers for safely holding small amounts of dust and proceeds to teach him about dust. In great detail. He also finds an odd amount of glitter packets and weird not quite gem things. Jaune teaches him about sequins. Blake, after seeing him look at his assortment of oddities, leaves spools of thread and lengths of yarn. An unusual amount of cloth scraps find their way around that no one will admit to. (Qrow). There’s also still beads.
Soon enough, small treasures are found around the house: patchwork kerchiefs with initials beaded into corners, glittery cloth bookmarks, bracelets and necklaces with beads and nuts and bolts, sequined wrist and ankle bands.

What would Whitley’s semblance be? There is the family glyphs which could lead to a training scene with Winter and/or Willow. The glyphs are valid, it’s just that it would also be cool for it to be something else you know?
There are the Elsa like powers I’ve described poorly in a past blog a long time ago, but what if it’s something a bit more miscellaneous?
Like being able to see, literally or figuratively, through smoke and mirrors. Imagine if he could perceive things clearly despite there being a sandstorm or heavy fog. It could even work against Semblances that work to undermine the perception of reality.
In the same vein, what if he could tell if people were telling the truth, but unlike Robin there was no way to demonstrate it to other people. Though that does seem kinda “weak” narratively in a way I can’t describe. The same way Ironwood’s Semblance is. Almost like a cop-out
Perhaps something similar though? A semblance where he can know how much something is worth to some, whether it be by itself or in comparison to something else would be neat. It would also be neat if he could appraise how much something is worth. I can just see him look at a patch of sand or dirt and say “There Dust/Gold/Platinum/Iron/Copper/whatever in them hills”
To be clear, I don’t want him to have the x-ray vision of Superman. I want him to know this kinda of intrinsically, and he has to prove it. I want to become trusted, for him to eventually be able to go, “it came to me a dream” and for people to go along with it.
Perhaps, “seeing” wouldn’t be the best description of this semblance, but rather a Gut Feeling(tm) premium for commercial enterprise. It would certainly fit somewhat thematically because he is a son of an oligarch/capitalist. (I say somewhat because it’s been ages since I’ve watched RWBY, and I’m not that confident in my assertions of character traits and such)
New head canon just dropped.
What if Whitley’s semblance isn’t the heritable Schnee Glyph but rather a Siphon, a temperature siphon to be exact. Like the survivors and the leader decide to active Whitley’s aura cause the Schnee semblance is pretty good Ngl, and surprise his semblance isn’t the same as his sisters’
So when Whitley siphons energy from the temperature of his surroundings, the air temperature in a 50 meter radius drops. The energy from the siphon can act like an overshield from Halo and be used to refill his aura shields.
His aura can also be used to supercool things like locks or knives or anything really, as long as it’s not too big.
So when he uses his semblance, the he siphons the energy from the temperature from the surrounding air. Imagine fighting in the 100*F Vacuo desert to freezing your a** off in like 35*F air.
For some reason, I really like the idea that Whitley is unique in that he has no aura. Like nothing at all, no semblance, no glowy shield, no enhancement coming from the soul. Nothing.
I also really like the idea that he has Elsa powers. This is probably just me though.
Edit: Ny head canon/ ideas is that Willow tries to unlock Whitley’s aura but can’t. After a few test with some huntsmen, Jacques finds out about the tests and Whitley’s lack of aura. He then covers it up by destroying all records of the testing, and the huntsmen go on their way. The huntsmen are genuinely killed by Grimm so the only people who would know are Whitley, Willow, and Jacques.
I honestly believed that Ruby could possibly be Dorothy because of her red theme. It made sense to me because of her importance in shaping Remnant and all that stuff

There’s a threat in mistral, and Ironwood does not trust “Leo” to stop it. Leo is 100% the headmaster of Haven, and Leo is a lion allusion, like the cowardly lion from the wizard of Oz, and all the headmasters of the schools allude to the wizard of Oz, I will bet ALL OF MY COOL ROCKS

Soooooo new volume!
I might have fallen in love with Winter (again) and there's also all the new characters and penny is back!!!!!! Omg!!!!! I love the way it is going right now (as usual), but that doesn't mean I have no criticism.
Honestly the only thing that I feel really sad about right now is that our faves didn't get a weapon design montage, though I guess there were more pressing matters like introducing new characters, maybe it just didn't fit in? I dunno it's just a bit sad, I would've loved to see Ruby geek out about weapons and new designs and Blake repair hers with gold (we all know the symbolism behind that) but maybe we will in the future.
After chapter 2 I was a bit miffed about how they handled the whole lying to ironwood thing but it got resolved in chapter 3 and now I am just curious how it will play out.
I really hope we get to see Oscar walk through atlas and meeting some new people, or talk to Pietro about the cane maybe. I just want to see more Oscar please.
But yeah, I love RWBY and I love that we finally get to see more and I am hyped! (Also omg the ace ops ahhhhhhhh)
Last thing: is there a RWBY fandom discord channel? If yes, can someone send me the link? If no, would anyone join if I made one?
RWBY Theory
I am pretty sure someone already has this one somewhere but I think the Theory that Winter Schnee could be the winter maiden is fairly common right? It's not only the name but also is the a incredible badass and a young women. She could have been introduced to Ozpin through Ironwood and they made her a maiden. Or she knew the former maiden, whatever you know what I mean...
BUT right now I had the thought...
Weiß thought her sister was in Haven right? And of course she wasn't because all troupes got called back to atlas. What if that wasn't the only reason she was ordered back?
What if it was because they want to keep the winter maiden safe and concluded that couldn't be done in haven?
I dunno it just popped into my head so please tell me what you think.
