You’re stolen away from your home in the summer.
The days are luminous, and the nights languid and warm, the darkness is filled with a big yellow story-book moon. The Kamisato estate is still out of sight, hidden by a turn in the path. You trade quick, desperate kisses the whole way back with Scaramouche, still bathed in the shadows as the boughs of the trees around you creak in the night.
It’s odd, returning back to your family estate, with no one realising that your life is profoundly different. Who would have thought saying a few words and slipping on a ring of metal could change a person’s perception of themselves? You aren’t just the youngest child of the Kamisato clan anymore. You’re married now. You have a whole new set of responsibilities and expectations. Just thinking about it intimidates you.

Imagine being a Kamisato and trying to elope with Scaramouche.
Your beloved is waiting for you in the lush gardens, waiting to spirit you away from the oppressive air of Inazuma, and you’ve been exceedingly quiet as you tiptoe through the darkened hallways of your family home. Freedom is so close, you can practically smell it. And just as you’re opening the sliding door with baited breath, it’s your older brother who confronts you.
“Leaving already?”
At first, you think that he’ll object as he studies your features, pale in the moonlight and glazed with terror. Ayato’s eyes meet yours, and for an instant, you could swear that he reads your thoughts clearly as words on a page. His eyes narrow, but after a moment he sighs and stands aside, with a soft, sad smile on his face.
“Visit us when you can.”

“What?”
You stare at your older brother in abject horror. You’ve known for a while now, that since you’ve come of age, the Elders of the Kamisato family would soon be clamouring for you to be married off, preferably to another member of an equally prestigious family.
And though you’ve often imagined marrying any number of peers your age when you were younger, it had been a game to you back then, your favourites changing as often as your clothes. It had been a lovely fantasy, but that’s all it had ever been. Now, you can see so clearly, how your life is going to be squeezed into a box, by the Elders who would be perfectly content to manipulate you as one would a puppet.

The death of your parents brings new responsibilities to Ayato and Ayaka, who are both preoccupied with running the clan and carrying out various other duties around Inazuma. As young as you are, your older siblings try to ensure that you have some semblance of a childhood before you’re officially given duties of your own to fulfil. Although you have lessons and numerous etiquette classes, you’re given plenty of free time as well. Time you spend flipping through picture books, or playing games with the staff, or simply wandering around the gardens and the nearby forest.
It’s on one of your wanderings that you come across another wanderer called Scaramouche. His fair skin and delicate features enthralls you almost immediately, enough that you find yourself coming back to meet him everyday. Despite the harsh lines on his face and the coolness to his words, you find that he rapidly softens in the face of your gap-toothed smile and rapid chatter. You bring Scaramouche sweets, books, games, and if he’s in a good enough mood, you can even coax him into playing with you for a little while, before he leaves again.
It seems almost natural then, that you should weave a ring of flowers in your childish, fumbling hands and slip it onto his finger with a bright proclamation of, when I’m older, I’ll marry you! Scaramouche turns bright red and sputters incoherently, the most flustered you’ve ever seen him. But you also notice the reverence with which he treats the ring, as though it’s made of precious metal and gems instead of flowers picked from the dirt.
Ayato is relieved when you return home with a spring in your step and a brightness to your smile after one of your numerous outings. He and Ayaka are both busy, and they can’t play with you as much as they used to, and he’s glad that you seem to be in high spirits. His smile dims a little when he finds out the reason for your joy - Older brother, I’m getting married to Scaramouche, and you and older sister are both invited to the wedding!
Ever the protective older brother, Ayato has the Shuumatsuban look into the identity of this ‘Scaramouche’ before he decides on the next course of action. He nearly has a heart attack when he learns that the very person you’ve been demanding to marry is a member of the Fatui.

Horrortober Day 30: Blackmail “Why are you doing this to me?”
First time writing for Scara, aaaaaah! It was kind of hard but also satisfying? He has this two-faced personality and I think that’s just so neat for the yandere trope! Still, go easy on me for writing for him for the first time, thanks >-<
Warnings: Yandere, Blackmailing, Implied Violence, Pulling the reader by the hair, Intimidation Characters: Scaramouche/ Kunikuzushi / Balladeer x Reader
On your desk were the proofs and receipts of your failure.
Before you, the mocking grin of a wretched soul.
You stood over your desk, leaning down at it tensely, your hands curled into fists. If not for the fact that you did not want to give the Fatui the satisfaction of having anything on you, you would have liked to sit back and despair for a while. It was but a stupid joke that Scaramouche wanted to pull on you, but unfortunately, this joke would ruin you if you weren’t careful.
With the Tenryou Commission already having made dodgy dealings with the Fatui, maybe it shouldn’t have surprised you that the same mistakes were made in your own ranks. Perhaps you had been too proud to see them happening, but with everything that was collected before you, it would be your head on the line. For as long as you could think, you had worked diligently and in the best interest of your orders. Much better than what you could say about your underlings who seemed to have striven for greatness in a very different way than you.
What was so wrong about being honorable? You wondered about it as you pushed through the documents and letters scattered on the table. Why was it so hard not to give in to the temptation of power through crooked means? All you wanted now was to be frustrated and angry. To bring these miserable blokes to justice who risked not only their fates but yours as well. You’ve put so much into your unit’s training, trying to teach them values and treated them with the deserved respect. Yet, they walked all over you in the end.
“What do you want?” you grumbled, gnawing on your lip. Putting all the evidence of misconduct into a neat pile, you wanted to raise them in the air and throw them at the Balladeer’s smug face. How dare he even showed himself in front of you again. You sent him to the moon once, and nothing had changed about your opinion of him since then. Yet, he came back as if he was a welcome guest to your office, a grin on his face as if he knew more than you.
“Don’t make me repeat myself,” he scoffed, jokingly rolling his eyes before grinning again. “I need you to come with me. You are needed somewhere far away from here.”
“I don’t do business with your stinking organization,” you retorted, hissing the words in the hope he’d finally get the message. Scaramouche had been bugging you with this before, asking you to leave with him in case things go and don’t go the way he was planning. Crazy, considering you didn’t know him at all.
“So, you’re going to stay and see how your unit, your lifelong work, all just goes down the gutter? I can respect your worth ethic, but don’t you think you’re a little cruel to yourself?”
Getting up from his chair, Scaramouche let out a long sigh before he leaned over the desk, bringing his face too close for comfort. But you’d not back away. You had been fighting scarier opponents than the ones that looked like they were merely ten years old, yet talked like they ruled over the land you were standing on.
“You know nothing about us! Maybe if you dirty Fatui didn’t spread rumors and your disgusting Delusions, no one would have considered being led on by you!”
Even though you spat the words into his face, Scaramouche wasn’t backing away from you either. It was grossly obvious he enjoyed the challenge you were giving him, and you wondered if his life was so dull that bothering you was his only joy. “Maybe,” he chuckled.
The sudden feeling of a strange touch enveloped your fists which helped you lean on the table. A glance down, and you saw two hands caressing your skin curiously, Scaramouche only leaning closer in the moment you were distracted. “You will never know about what could have been. There is only the future we can change.”
Ripping your hands away from him, you finally recoiled. Even though you wanted to be strong and steady, not at the cost of having to be touched by someone who disgusted you so much. There were no words to describe the feeling of hatred you had for this man, who seemed to have singled you out. You barely believed your eyes when you saw him standing in your doorway, your last information having been that he left with the Fatui after their plot was uncovered.
Though you were wringing your hands to get the feeling of his fingertips off of you, it was no use. His touch was sticking to you like tree sap, repulsive, but the feeling always remained. “There is no ‘we’ in this. My future, my decisions.”
Before he could say anything more, you grabbed the papers, carrying them to the fireplace and feeding the hungry flames that awaited them. You’d have to deal with these problems, but not with the seemingly fake pieces of evidence and documents. One soldier at a time would get their deserved punishment, but you didn’t need the help of a Fatui Harbinger to do that. Clapping your hands and turning back to him, you sneered at Scaramouche from above, asking, “Anything else?”
He only continued to smile calmly, pulling another paper from his pocket and another. “How many copies do you think I have? Did you really think I’d give you the original documents? For how stupid do you take me?”
Your face dropped as you watched him produce copies left and right, almost enough to send them to every important person in Inazuma. “It’s not worth staying here, right? If anyone finds these, they will think you couldn’t stand the guilt anymore and abandoned your post. Don’t worry, we’ll be long gone by then,” he taunted you, and you tried to hide your discomposure behind anger.
“Why are you doing this to me?!” you yelled at him, losing it as he wouldn’t stop his mockery. But Scaramouche’s grin only widened in joy as he saw you lose all your cool, exactly what he wanted. He wanted to see this suffering side of you, the desperation and anger. It must have been all that’s on his mind since he came well-prepared to this meeting, one that would - if it came out you were meeting with a Fatui - already get you fired from this position you worked so hard for and had been so proud of for many years.
Finally, he stopped producing papers. No more evidence were left in his little scheme to get what he wanted, but it was enough to get you all executed. His focus was back at you wholly as he approached. Hands outstretched, he searched for yours that you folded in towards your chest, unwilling to hand them over. But you didn’t have to. Scaramouche took what he wanted regardless of how you felt about it.
“I’ve been doing all this for you, don’t you understand it? Now you’re free, and we can start over! So come with me, stop pretending it’s not what you want!”
Unable to understand what he meant, you shook your head in confusion, but Scaramouche’s grip only tightened, squeezing your hands so hard they began pumping blood through them. Free? Free of what? And what were you pretending in his opinion? The enthusiasm he had previously displayed as he threw those fake truths at you disappeared as you remained unwilling to join his joy. His expression turned into a dreadful scowl, and he gave your hands a firm tug, making you almost lose your balance as you didn’t expect it.
“Why do you keep pretending you don’t want to be with me? Are you sick? Broken? Do you need fixing? Why would you keep trying to stay here when you can be with me? You’re so annoying! Make up your mind!”
A tirade of words was screamed at your face as you desperately tried to keep up. Scaramouche was pulling you forward towards the door, more and more against your will, all while you didn’t know what any of his actions meant. You were lost, but you couldn’t help thinking that he seemed to be as well. “Stop it!” you barked back at him loudly, and only for a moment you managed to catch him off-guard, his expression showing the surprise about the loud order you made.
And suddenly, everything seemed to get worse.
“Stop?” he mumbled, narrowing his eyes dangerously. “I haven’t even started yet, you unthankful pest.”
You were thrown to the floor with unknown strength, though you quickly regained your clear thinking after the initial shock. Looking up at him, for the first time he seemed tall and scary to you as if he was going to stomp you into the ground any second now. “All I’ve been doing was for you to love me,” he revealed, and you grew more restless by the second. Who was he? You two never interacted more than once before this. Why did he think it was okay to treat you this way?
“So now, you have to love me, no matter what. You’ll come with me, even if it’s the last thing you do.”
Reaching for you, you hid your face as his hands closed in, fingers curling into your hair instead. Screams of pain erupted from your throat he pulled you after him with ease. There was no one around who could have saved you, you realized as you opened your eyes mid-scream, seeing all the bodies of your unit slumped against the walls and floor of your office building.
“See what I did for you? I prepared all these presents, you ungrateful wretch! Just for you! Be thankful and love me!”
“Stop it!” you bellowed at the top of your lunges, trying to claw at his hand buried in your hair, wanting him to let go. You had to do something! Those were still your soldiers! They relied on your help! No matter what they did wrong, they didn’t deserve to be treated this way, disrespectfully and horrifying!
“You’ll learn it soon enough,” Scaramouche laughed, though his voice carried bitterness in it now.
“I give the orders here.”
Pairings: husband!Scaramouche x gn!reader (They/them)
Warnings: none, just fluff and flustered scaramouche
Prompt: Reader steals kisses from scaramouche every chance they get and he loves hates it
First of all, life as a harbinger and a full-time husband is extremely busy for Scaramouche. He has to do paperwork, lecture the new recruits, and give you attention. Second of all, you've recently been getting a great surge to give him kisses everywhere on his face!
Scaramouche thought that life as both of those things would be easy, but not when it's all happening at the same time.
You'd usually use an excuse to go into his office just to kiss him up by getting him hot and fresh tea or tell him you forgot your sweater in there but you didnt.
Every single time you walk in there though, he wouldn't be in his leisure time doodling away in his paperwork, instead, he would be signing documents and letters of agreement which was always such a shame.
So you always take the opportunity to spend every single second coddling him, even if it means he'll be interrupted in his work.
"Did you drink the tea I made for you earlier? It's getting cold." You asked, staring at the unmoved teacup you placed over fifteen minutes ago as you sat on the desk, legs crossed.
He simply replied with a mere 'mmm', continuing to do his paperwork, not sparing a glance at you.
And now was the moment to strike, you leaned over to him whilst sitting on the desk, grabbed his head gently, and gave him a big, sloppy kiss, releasing with a 'mwah' sound. Him, hair a mess and profusely blushing, was obviously flabbergasted by the wet kiss.
Although you both have been married for decades, it is always such a new feeling for him to receive affection.
"Are you doing that thing again-" He was cut off when you started pressing kisses all along his neck up to his face, then a long and final kiss on his lips.
You pulled back, expecting his usual expression, trying to look angry when disturbed from work but also really flustered.
Although his eyebrows were furrowed and had a forced frown, he also had a furious blush dusted on his cheeks fighting to make him smile.
He turned away on his office chair and looked away from you, trying to fix his face and hair before he could look at you again. Meanwhile, you just chuckled as you watched him struggle to pull off his big bad harbinger persona again.

synopsis: scaramouche hates the fact your friend kaeya gives you stupid nicknames you enjoy, so he tries to muster up the courage to call you by one too
you pocket your phone afterwards and continue on with your work, speaking of Kaeya, you were currently in Monstadt due to having a meeting with the acting grand master, one of the reasons you tried to spend every free second texting scara
your boyfriend had been in Mondstadt for a while with you, which is probably where he saw kaeya chatting with you, but it’s been a while since then so it was odd he brought it up
on the other side of the map, scara was working. and by working he was trying to come up with pet names to call you
the thought of your mere friends calling you pet names pissed him off to no end
he’d rather chop his head off then let some other lowlife call you a pet name you enjoyed, but he couldn’t come up with something without internally cringing
babe? no, you sometimes called him that and he didn’t mind but he couldn’t see himself saying it
my love? that sounded too romantic for a common pet name
sweetheart? no then it would look like he was copying that incompetent lowlife
he took his hat off and rammed his head into his desk, groaning at the stupid shit he was doing for you
after a couple seconds of questioning his life choices he came up with something
scaramouche was ecstatic to see you finally come back home to him, though you probably couldn’t tell with the way he stood rigid by the entrance to liyue which you were supposed to arrive at in the afternoon
he would rather die then admit he tried out the pet name on his tongue in his mirror, cringing everytime he did so since he felt stupid
he even tried texting it, but deleted it every time. he’d rather call you that in person
he soon saw your silhouette, walking beside another harbinger, tartaglia
he unconsciously glared at the stupid ginger male after seeing he made you laugh, and right after sending his glare your eyes met his and lit up, jogging the rest of the way down
he wasn’t one to run halfway and meet you, he had a reputation, but once you got closer he did uncross his arms knowing you would jump into them
which you did
scara let his arms wrap around your waist as you immediately started rambling about something that happened that morning as you took his hand and dragged him along
he was usually embarrassed to hold hands in public, but after not seeing you for days he let himself clutch onto your fingers, shooting anyone a glare who as so much glanced at them
“i missed you,” you smiled, knocking shoulders with him, “it wasn’t the same not being bullied by my boyfriend every other second.”
“i missed you too—,” he stopped himself before calling you that, he didn’t want everyone else in the fatui to hear him
god he was bad at this boyfriend stuff, he had to give credit to kaeya for having the confidence for that
he was literal a harbinger for god’s sake, why was he nervous around you
“soft scara has made an appearance,” you cheered, pinching his cheek before letting go of his hand “i gotta go check in for a another meeting, i’ll stop by your office later.” before pecking his cheek and catching up with tartaglia again
he shoved his now cold hand into a pocket before noticing a couple fatui members giving him stares,
“and what the hell are you peasants looking at? take your eyes off me before i MAKE you,” he yelled, creating sparks ticking off from his fingertips until they turned away frightened
he was in his office doing useless paperwork when he heard his door he open, he assumed it was some fatui member coming to bother him so he immediately groaned and flipped them off, while simultaneously signing shitty contracts with his other hand god he really hated paperwork
“wow you’re so sweet,” he heard you laugh, peeking his head up to see you pull up in the chair in front of his desk, resting your face in your hands as you laughed at his antics
“sorry i didn’t know it was you,” he grumbled, going back to work
“do you wanna take a walk later?” you asked, playing with a trinket on his desk,,, if anyone else dared to touch his things he’d chop their fingers off
“alright,” he agreed, keeping his eyes trained on his paper to fight the blush rising in his cheek, he missed going on dates with you but he would never admit that
“great! i have to go now,” you stood up to leave before turning back around, “almost forgot, i had to give these to you, more paperwork!” you pulled out a file and handed it to him
“thank you, darling,” he said absentmindedly, grabbing it from you and going through it, before noticing how you froze my the door
he quirked an eyebrow at you, “need something?”
you shook your head as your cheeks flushed red and left
it took him a couple more stacks of paper before he realized what he’d done
he let his head fall against his desk once again, but perked back up after remembering your cute reaction
a/n: me falling in love with him though we barely got to meet him, scaramouche banner when?! sorry for any typos i’ll fix them later. requests are closed at this time but i’ll open them when i can :)

Soft moments with scaramouche
gender neutral / no gender specified
soft scara — pure fluff but an ending kinda sad (???) good ending anyways so-
Romantic relationship
Scaramouche also known as a cold hearted man, would let you held him in the privacy of your shared home.
Siting on your lap, with his back to your chest, your arms around him and your hands on his belly with his on top of yours.
You two would talk about anything and everything, watching tv or the sunset or sometimes not even doing anything, only appreciating the others presence.
Scaramouche the Balladeer a fatui member that everyone feared, would smile softly while you both drifted to sleep, arms and legs tangled, the cruel warrior that would bake a cake with you at 2am when you couldn't sleep, the one that would take you to a walk never loosing his grip on your hand, that is, as long as you two were alone obviously, he still had a reputation to keep.
The one that would threaten to kill and do so to whoever would bother you, the one who would lay his head on your chest on lazy days, never admitting he craved and desired your affection.
"I love you" would you hear rarely from Scaramouche, but you didn't need such ordinary words to know the affection he held for you as his daily actions proved it.
"Never think otherwise" Would he add to his previous statement, mostly when you two fought, nothing never too serious as you tried to keep calm, "If you want to name your anger after me, I don't mind." You would think contradicting those times you cried when alone, although your feelings would never fade as you knew how much he appreciated you and how he didn't mean his words, not when moments ago he held you so tenderly as you both shared soft kisses, he just couldn't watch his mouth and you just couldn't help yourself when hearing such cruel words, cruel words from your dearly cruel lover.
But maybe you were just a masochist.
Scaramouche, the man who's rude by nature, who says cruel words without meaning it and regrets right after, but being too stubborn and full of pride to apologize. You of course know him better than himself and because of it you choose to ignore, knowing the meaningless truth of his empty threats.
And when it happened, when the rain fell at the rhythm of his tears as your held him in your arms, weakly hitting you on the shoulder as in trying to shove you away, you only moved away his bangs and kissed his forehead.
When he had asked why you stayed and yet you told him "because I love you".
Those were, the soft moments with scaramouche. The moments you would always cherish.
Had this idea when listening to "Não me importo" by Carolina Deslandes! Hope you enjoyed 💜

After your initial encounter with the deadly Harbinger Scaramouche, there’s no doubt you joined your astrologer friend Mona afterward as she tried to piece together the stars of the harbinger’s constellation. Imagine the dimly lit room of her cobblestone cottage in Mondstadt, illuminated by the swirling aura of hydro elemental energy as Mona turns the gears of her astrological map.
Scaramouche was such a unique, foreign name to your lips. His entire demeanor was unlike anything you had encountered thus far—a beautiful ornamental hat of scarlet red and deep midnight adorning his indigo hair, white and lavender tassels blowing gently in the wind, sleeves embroidered delicately with cool hues, and that gorgeous veil that trailed his form.
Every time Mona thought she was making a breakthrough, she sighs in increasing frustration as none of it made any sense.
Eventually, you both settled on doing a Tarot reading of your fortune in relation to this dangerous harbinger who nearly took your life. Perhaps at the very least, Mona could offer her expert astrological advice with a quick reading of the Major Arcana cards as you continue on your journey.
Carefully, Mona reveals your cards one by one: Justice reversed, The Lovers, The Moon, The World, and The Tower. As each card is flipped, you are too distracted by the beautiful design on the cards to see how Mona’s face falls into an abyss of conflicted feelings.
She clears her throat, attempting to maintain her professionalism, and reads your cards to you.
“Justice reversed indicates what is happening at this moment. The true meaning of these events is yet to be revealed. There is no way to fully understand the situation without patience. So, you should be open to hearing other’s perspectives.”
You nod to encourage her to move forward, not necessarily impressed by the vague interpretation that your first card provided.
“Next is The Lovers, which can guide you through this predicament with ease. This card has many sides to it. Some believe it represents the difficulties or the aura of romance. The Lovers means you should choose your own path to happiness. Make compromises and avoid choices you don’t want to make.”
“Hm, that’s odd. So you’re saying the cards think there’s romance involved?” you query with a look of disbelief. “Surely not. He tried to kill us!”
Mona shook her head. “I simply interpret the connotations of the cards. It is up to you to decide what to take to heart.”
“Moving on,” she says hesitantly, eyeing you, “The Moon will show you what is to be learned from your encounter with Scaramouche. Typically this card is associated with dreams and visions, yet we cannot always control the outcome. It advises you to trust yourself and your instincts, but don’t try to defy your destiny. Take things as they come.”
“The next card shows what is leaving you at this time. The World refers to wisdom and how your motivations are in line with the divine powers. Even if you fail, all will be made right. In this case, you will no longer have this blessing within you.”
You frown, “The favor of the Archons is leaving me? I’m not even sure how many of them even know my name, Mona.”
The young astrologer folds her arms, cupping her chin between her thumb and index fingers. “It could be the Archons. It could be Celestia. It could be the will of the universe. Regardless, (Y/N), I think The World is telling you tread carefully. The choices you make could be permanent, irreversible, and perhaps even draw the ire of fate.”
“The final card foretells the near future. It is The Tower, which describes revolution and chaos. It will be brief and instantaneous, but forever change your path moving forward. Expect drastic transformation.”
Your mind is a mess trying to make sense of Mona’s reading. A million questions and mixed emotions bubble inside you, nearly making you nauseated. You swallow thickly and ask Mona what all of this actually means.
“Simply put, (Y/N), the cards were able to determine that your connection with Scaramouche is nowhere near its end. In fact, many of the cards indicate dramatic change in your relationship, which will challenge your integrity and test your friendships. They recommend sticking to what you feel is right and true to yourself,” she summarizes succinctly, shuffling away her cards in an organized fashion. “But…”
You give her a look. Mona has that familiar intonation in her voice, a teasing, playful air with a dangerous edge ready to poke and prod you endlessly. You’re absolutely clueless to the intricacies of her astrological studies, so Mona basically has you wrapped around her pretty little finger with every mystical prediction and calculation she makes. She loves to take advantage of your cluelessness too often.
“But what?” you reply, slightly annoyed. “What’s that expression for? Mona, you know I rely on you for this kind of stuff! Just tell me.”
She laughs, stowing away her cards and astrological instruments, before turning to you. “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think the dramatic change the cards were alluding to is of the romantic type.”
Jaw immediately dropping, you flipped out, jolting out of your chair. “Mona Megistus!”
“Yes, that’s my name,” she smugly responds, watching you unfurl into a flustered mess. “Don’t wear it out, now.”
“You’re crazy! I think the cards are lying,” you stutter out incredulously, pointing toward the innocent box they sat in on her shelf.
Mona simply hums in laughter. “You’re the one who picked the cards! While I am deeply troubled by the idea of this Fatui man being in love with you, if fate ordains it then so it shall be.”
“This is ridiculous,” you huff, red in the face from your outburst and from pure embarrassment. “Lemme try again and I’m sure I’ll pick different cards.”
“What’s done is done, (Y/N),” Mona giggles, shaking her head at you. “Anyway, you can repay me for my services with lunch from Good Hunter~”
You were never quite sure if Mona was being truthful or teasing, but decided to drop it to go have lunch with her in downtown Mondstadt—completely unaware of the Fatui agents scattered throughout the city, silently keeping an eye on you at the request of a particular Sixth Harbinger.

SCARAMOUCHE
is a mere fragment of his own creator who had thrown him aside for someone else. He was nothing.
But it was also him who uplifted himself, made a name for himself through the Fatui—a new name, even. It was him who had moved forward and never looked back.
He, of course, wasn’t imperfect—he knew that but refused to acknowledge it.

༻Scaramouche༺
Cursing yourself for allowing yourself to sleep in and leaving your door open you chased after Tartarglia like your life depended on it, which it didn’t but your pride did. Screaming at him to give the plush he stole from your room back, it would be fine if it looked like a normal plush but no, it resembled the sixth harbinger, Scaramouche. You had a bit of a crush on him and you both exchanged teasing comments and flirts occasionally, never verbally confessing anything. “Childe! If you don’t stop then I swear to Celestia-“ He stopped briefly and turned back to you with a smirk, racing off to the foyer, standing there were a few agents and none other than the balladeer. The reasoning for this plush was simple and embarrassing, but it helped you sleep and it looked cute by your account but now your whole private life was going to be exposed to the one person you never wanted.
“Scara-'' Sighing as he rolled his eyes and dismissed whoever he was talking to, turning to face the ginger. “It is still early so shut up or I’ll shut it for you.” The violet-haired harbinger warned and then saw you running behind the male, throwing you a confused gaze. You couldn’t care less as you jumped and tried to tackle him, climbing his body to try and get back what he stole. Hearing Scaramouche murmur something along the lines of “what the fuck are you both doing?” and looked up to what you were fighting over. “Childe! Y/N! Why are you fighting over something that resembles me?!” Small sparks of electricity cracked off his figure signaling he was done with whatever game we were playing around with.
Childe shrugged you off and proudly smiled, “I don’t know but it looks like a plush of you. I found it in Y/N’s room while she was still sleeping and cuddling with it.” Your face lit up bright red and punched Childe in the arm, adamantly denying it. “You bastard! You snuck into my room and stole it! I found it-“ The balladeer cleared his throat and gathered your attention, wearing a smirk and teasingly gazing at you while holding the plushie version of him. “So it is yours~” At this point, the damage had already been done so you could only hope that he thought it was a joke. “No! It’s not-“ “But if it’s not yours then why did I find you hugging with a smile while you were sleeping. You looked so cute all curled up and being all lovey-dovey with it, I would even go as far as to say you purposely wanted me to find it. Huh, Y/N?”
Now all eyes were on your very flustered expression and the only thought that came to your mind was to run, so you abandoned the plush and ran off in the direction of your room, pleading to the archons that you would make and could just wait it out. “Oh-ho, uh-uh you’re not getting away that easily!” Now the person who you were desperately trying to get away from was chasing you, all it came down to was stamina and who could outrun the other. With the adrenaline coursing through your body you thought you had a pretty good shot, getting tackled just a few feet from your door.
Two hands landed on either side of your head, trapping you against the cold flooring. “You can’t run away now, so tell me why did you have this stupid doll?” His cold violet eyes piercing into yours, averting yours to the side and stammering, desperately trying to come up with an explanation that would get you out of the situation. “I- it’s not stupid. I have it because…” His fingers gripped your chin and turned your face so it was inches away from his, curiosity piqued his interest more than anything.
“What? Cat got your tongue~” Teasing you and eliciting a harsh blush on your cheeks, thinking that you might as well get the hard part over with. “It’s because I love you a lot… and you are so hard to approach. I didn’t know what else I could do, so I did this.” Pouting and looking sideways, not looking at his expression that no doubt had hatred or disgust. “Oh. Is that it?”
Scaramouche huffed and pulled you up, hurrying you into your room and shutting behind you. This was it, he was going to reject you and laugh in your face at how pathetic and stupid it all was, maybe you should’ve just stayed in your room and locked it. To your surprise he pinned you against the wall, “Wha-” Kissing you and effectively shutting you up, you were very confused but returned the kiss happily. His hands cupped your face and tilted your face so he could deepen it, smirking into the kiss.
Eventually tapping his shoulder to signal you couldn’t breathe and breathing in air gratefully, shyly smiling. “Guess Childe isn’t so idiotic after all.” You shook yourself out of the haze you were in and met his gaze, asking for an explanation of what the hell happened. “What? So-” “If you would’ve told me sooner then I wouldn’t have had to chase after you. But I don’t regret this and I get to tell you that I return your feelings.” Smiling at you and pecking your cheek, checking the time and guiding you towards your bed, still unmade and messy from the chase. “We still have some time and you don’t have to use that stupid plushie when you have the real thing.”

there was once a time when scaramouche went by another name.
kunikuzushi was a name that’s nothing but a reminder of a harbinger’s past. a reminder of a mere prototype puppet who was kicked out by the raiden shogun herself, a “wandering eccentric“ who goes by no name until an act of revenge against a certain blacksmith,
and a lover of a certain inazuman who resides in tatarasuna, working under the guuji of the grand narukami shrine.
scaramouche could only wonder aimlessly if you were still waiting for him after so many years. are you still working for the grand narukami shrine? are you still as kind as he used to know you before when he first met you? do you even remember him if you ever see him?
the harbinger could only cover his face with his hat in shame. shamed that he never got the chance to come back again after so many years even when he vowed to return just for you.
the vow still stands in his empty chest that holds no heart, but would you say the same?
“fear not, dear kunikuzushi.” you said reassuringly, patting the man’s head with a smile. “no matter how time has long passed, i will always be here in inazuma waiting for you.”
you then gave him a large hat, something that he swears to himself to cherish. “take this as my farewell gift. if you ever miss me as much as i will be to you in the near future, you could always wear this hat and remember me.”
will you ever know how he rarely removes the very hat that you gave him?
you hoped he did.
you hoped, just like how a loved one does when a soldier goes to a war, that your dearest kunikuzushi is alright. you hoped, just like how a lover does when they think about their spouse, that he is happy as he could ever be even if you’re not the reason. you hoped, just like how a lover does when they’re away from their spouse, that he still thinks about you just as much as you do with him.
you just keep hoping and hoping as years go by, often visiting the place where you bid him farewell whenever you have the chance, only to sigh in dismay when you couldn’t see kunikuzushi anywhere.
“i suspect that i might find you here,” yae miko spoke up, walking towards you with a small smile on her face. “i was looking for you around the shrine for a task. is something on your mind?”
you slowly look away from the view of your old home that’s now ruined by the harsh thunderstorms in the past, looking at the guuji with a reassuring smile. “i’m just checking up on my old home as the usual, i apologize for not coming back sooner and worry you.” you replied.
“no need for the apologies. it’s not like this is your first time getting away and get distracted.” the woman reassures you with a chuckle.
there was no single soul who’s aware of your relationship with the lone puppet that the raiden shogun discarded except yae miko. although the woman isn’t quite fond of how you’re often distracted unlike before, she couldn’t blame you.
it’s just a shame that the fatui found him, the woman knows fully well that he won’t be able to come back to inazuma anytime soon but didn’t see the point in telling you, not wanting to destroy that hopeful look plastered on your face that she had grown used to see everyday.
“may i ask what task would you like me to fulfill, lady yae?” you ask.
“i’m afraid it’s not like any other tasks i’ve given you,” she warns, crossing her arms with an apologetic smile. “i need you to keep an eye on a certain harbinger that’s been lurking around the land. he’s a tall ginger-haired man with a hydro vision.”
you felt yourself stiffen at the mention of harbinger. “…does this harbinger have something to do with… kuni?” you ask hesitantly.
the woman shrugs in response. “unfortunatley i’m not exactly sure of the purpose of the harbinger’s visit to inazuma, but i suspect it has something to do with kunikuzushi and the electro gnosis – which is why i need you to keep an eye on him for now and see if he’s going to cause trouble.”
your heart leaped at the guuji mentioning your lover’s name. does this mean he hasn’t left the nation?
”i.. i’ll see what i can do, lady yae.“ you spoke, bowing your head to the woman before rushing down from the mountain, leaving yae miko alone with herself.
“..i could only hope to ei that you’ll manage to encounter kunikuzushi, y/n.” the woman mumbled, sighing before walking away towards her shrine.
—
it took you an hour to finally find the harbinger that yae described.
sure, it was a hassle, but after exploring and asking certain adventurers exploring, you manage to find the harbinger that’s been lurking around narukami island.
you stood behind one of the sakura trees disguised as a fox, watching the eleventh harbinger walking out from the place where the traveler and his friends ran in, causing your eyebrows to furrow. why did he come out from it alone? did he lay harm on the traveler?
“where could he be?” childe mumbles with a sigh, scratching the back of his neck as he walks around the area. “he better owe me a thrilling battle by the time i catch that man.”
could he be talking about kunikuzushi, you wonder?
you slowly sneak around the harbinger, curious with the harbinger’s words. surely if the ginger is looking for your lover, then that means he could still be here and hasn’t left the island with the gnosis, right?
you stopped pacing when you realized something.
if… kuni is actually here, then why didn’t he come visit you?
you could feel your blood running cold from that thought alone, mouth slightly open in shocked. surely kuni would actually come to you when he had the chance..? but then again, he didn’t even show himself when he came here for the raiden shogun’s gnosis.
“oh? i haven’t seen a fox like you in the wilderness before..” childe spoke up, looking down at you with a curious look on his face. “you must be a rare breed. you don’t look like those foxes from that village nearby.”
you paid no mind to how the harbinger now stands in front of you, frozen from the thoughts that suddenly made your heart dropped in dread. if kunikuzushi is in inazuma right now, where could he be? why didn’t he come visit you like he promised? did he.. forget about you?
“unless…” childe then smiles menacingly. “you could be one of those beings that can shapeshift.”
the harbinger’s words were enough for you to finally cut yourself off from your thoughts, immediately stepping away from the man as he summons his blades. you should’ve paid more attention to your mission! yae would’ve been disappointed if she finds out that you got carried away by your dumb thoughts!
before things could escalate even more, the harbinger suddenly drops his weapons.
you watched in confusion at the sight of childe letting out a gasp, clenching his teeth at the sudden overwhelming pain inside his body.
“don’t you dare lay a hand on them.”
your breath hitched at the sound of his voice.
…kunikuzushi?
you immediately felt alarmed from the purple smoke surrounding both you and childe — who’s now on his knees to the cold ground trying to breathe. “is this… is this one of your stupid— stupid traps, balladeer?” he asks, clutching his chest.
without hesitation, you turn around and see your lover in all his glory, standing a few steps away from you as he glares at the fallen harbinger.
“and here i thought i was better off with leaving you alone and fool you about my whereabouts,” he spoke to childe, clenching his fists. “but you just had to try and fight my lover.”
“and here i thought… i thought the ferocious balladeer wouldn’t have someone to call a lover.” the eleventh harbinger retorts with a smirk, only to gasp out for air when scaramouche suddenly makes the air around him more venomous.
“come, y/n,” he calls out to you in a soft tone- something that took you by surprise because of his sudden change of tone. “let’s get out of here before that rascal gets his hands on us.”
he didn’t have to ask twice.
—
“are you out of your mind? why the hell did you go to that harbinger of all people?! he could’ve killed you if it weren’t for me intervening!” he scolds you as the both of you stay in a camp that’s far away from where childe was, both of you were panting in exhaustion from running away.
“i apologize.. but please believe me when i say i didn’t mean to have my cover get revealed.” you said, not bothering to change your fox form. “i just.. got distracted by my thoughts.”
he furrows his eyebrows. “and what could possibly got you distracted?!”
“..i.. i was wondering why you didn’t visit me when you came here for.. the gnosis.” you hesitantly explained, looking away from your lover’s strong gaze in shame. “i just.. i just felt confused a-and maybe hurt that you probably didn’t want to see me after so many years.”
the both of you fell silent.
scaramouche stares deeply at your fox form, feeling conflicted.
“…change back to your normal form.” he commands, causing you to frown in confusion. what is he planning to do, exactly?
nevertheless, you followed your lover’s command and instantly changed back into your human form once more, still looking down at the ground with a frown plastered on your face.
your eyes widens when you felt arms wrapped around your body into a hug.
“you idiot,” he whispered. “you have no idea how much i’ve wanted to do this ever since i saw you in the place where i left.”
your breath hitches from his words. he… he saw you? he’s been visiting the place as well?
you quickly hug your lover back as well, lips quivering. “why didn’t you come to me if you saw me then? did you.. did you not want to see me ye—”
“god no,” scaramouche interrupts, clinging onto you tighter than before. “don’t you dare think that i’d hate to see you or forgot about you! i just didn’t know if you wanted to see me…”
you let out a laugh, realizing that the both of you were thinking the same thing. “of course i wanted to see you for so long dummy..”
the both of you stayed in the position for a while, enjoying each other’s warmth for as long as you’ve desired after so many years of being separated.
“i miss you.” you both said to each other at the same time out loud.
Summary: Scaramouche can’t believe someone of his stature is playing house with you, a mere human. When you insist on him joining you in your pillow fort, he wonders if this game is really worth it.

Scaramouche opened the doors to Tenshukaku with panting breaths. His eyes were wide-- Even more when he saw the scene before him.
The Traveler was on the ground, bleeding out. Kujou Sara was passed out elsewhere, and... He'd seen tons of guards on the ground as he ran to the building. There was blood and traces of your elemental energy everywhere he looked-- It was almost suffocating. In the back of the room, the Raiden Shogun sat quietly, watching over the scene-- Waiting for the Traveler to show that they were completely incapable of fighting.
And in the midst of it all, you stood there.
Your head was hanging low, hair slightly covering your eyes-- But not the smile on your lips. There was blood all over your weapon and your clothes. You were breathing heavily, foot slightly pushing the Traveler's weak figure on the floor. They tried their best to even grab their sword back, but it was way out of reach, and you were much stronger than them. From what the boy could tell, you hadn't even used your delusion yet. Despite that, you'd almost completely overpowered them.
"You..." he hissed, gaze sharpening as his fingers tightened around the door's edge.
You slowly looked up, huffing as you turned to look at him.
"Scara." you greeted casually, waving. He stood there, eye twitching as he smiled in frustration. You were even worse than Tartaglia. Goodness fuck. What was the battle even for? He had the Gnosis already. It was like... You were just killing time until you'd have to go back to Snezhnaya. He sighed.
What an annoyingly strong addition to the Harbingers.

sypnosis: when yae miko request you to follow the traveler and help him in the shadows, you certainly didn’t expect to meet your soulmate at a crucial time.

"you should follow the traveler when you have the chance. who knows if he'll come across to one of those harbingers." your friend says, causing you to look at her instead of instead of the traveler– who's currently running away from sangonomiya kokomi's residence after finding out the truth of the fallen soldiers. "i'm sure you've seen how powerful they are." she adds, crossing her arms with a small smile.
you continue to stay silent. sure, you could go to the traveler and watch until they need more help, but what can you do if a harbinger actually appears? you unfortunately aren't experience in combat.
yae miko seemed to read your mind. "you don't have to worry about having to fight them. you can simply tell them to back away from you and aether in exchange of this;" she suddenly pulls something out from her hidden pocket, causing your eyes to widen in shocked at the sight of the familiar shape of a gnosis.
how on earth did she get that?
she giggles at the sight of your shocked reaction. "you don't have to immediately give it to them since aether is strong enough to take them down. just give it when needed."
you furrowed your eyebrows. "why do you want me to follow the traveler anyway?"
"i have my reasons. i'll tell you soon when you come back with him and his companion." she answers, handing you the gnosis for you to take.
"so, are you going to do it or should i do the dirty work myself?"
–
as you enter the delusions factory, your eyes immediately lands on the piled up bodies of fatui members, causing you to furrow your eyebrows at the gruesome sight.
you continue to walk towards the place, trying to ignore the corpses around you. has the honorary knight been this merciless? you honestly couldn't blame him. not after witnessing the tragic fate of one of the soldiers that aether seemed to be close to.
it didn't take long before you finally saw the traveler slaughtering every single fatui members who were getting in his way, causing you to watch the gruesome show while hiding in plain sight.
"don't be intimidated. lord harbinger will be here soon." one of the fatui agents says to the remaining troops before getting knocked out.
lord harbinger, huh? you thought to yourself. i wonder which harbinger will arrive.
as soon as you think about the harbinger, you immediately spotted a man walking inside the room, causing your heart to drop.
"you actually managed to find this place.. congratulations." he comments, crossing his arms as aether immediately fixes his battle stance, his dull blade aiming at the balladeer's directoon. "hah, barely two words in and you already look like you want me dead."
"you're manufacturing delusions." aether speaks up, his voice echoes around the room.
scaramouche gave him an amused look. "oh, so that's what this is about."
as the harbinger continues to have a conversation with aether, you suddenly look down at where the gnosis is hidden, waiting for something to happen for you to finally escort the honorary knight to yae.
it took a few minutes until paimon's cries catches your attention from the gnosis, your breath hitches at the sight of aether– who was currently kneeling down on the ground as a purple haze starts to envelop him.
you look at where scaramouche is, watching him laughing manically at the sight of the fallen traveler. "that's it, just like that! embrace the anger... EMBRACE IT!"
the moment the traveler fell down to the ground, you find yourself standing up from the ground and head towards to the scene and glare daggers at the harbinger– who hasn't noticed your presence yet until–
"balladeer,"
scaramouche seems to be taken back by surprise from your sudden intrusion, now looking at you with furrowed eyebrows. you thought he felt intimidated by you, causing you to feel confident in yourself.
"i will not allow you to fight the traveler." you explained, standing between scaramouche and aether with an intimidating look plastered on your face. "i'm sure you know that he's valuable to inazuma's fate and is off-limits to harbingers like you, so try and not mess with me–"
"and why pray tell should i obey a nobody like you?" he asks, crossing his arms. "if anything, i think you should be scared of even trying to face against someone like me."
you couldn't help but smile, bringing out the one thing that he– alongside the other harbingers– have been looking for for the sake of pleasing the tsaritsa. "does this answer your question, dear balladeer?"
his eyes slightly widens at the sight of the gnosis on your hand. "how the hell did you–?!"
"i have my ways," you interrupted, taking a few steps backwards from him in fear of the harbinger suddenly trying to grab it form your grasp. "that's honestly none of your business, don't you think?"
he watched as you started playing with the piece, trying to prevent yourself from laughing at the sight of his shocked face. "now, does this give you enough approval in not laying another hand on the traveler?" you ask, still smiling at the man.
scaramouche continues to stare at the gnosis, tempted to just steal it and never come back to this hellhole until the tsaritsa assigns him go back here again.
with thoughts swirling through his mind, scaramouche glances back at aether, who seems to still be unconscious. which one would be beneficial more to the tsaritsa? a gnosis or the head of the traveler.
with a small sigh, the harbinger nods defeatedly and reaches his hand out for you to give him the gnosis. "i suppose i'll spare the so-called honorary knight's life." he says, watching as you willingly place the gnosis on his hand.
"may we not see each other again, balladeer." you spoke up, turning away from his direction and immediately went to the traveler–
wait
why... why is everything frozen?
you blink a few times, thinking you were hallucinating from the overwhelming aura around the room, only to realize that everything except you and scaramouche is indeed frozen in time.
don't tell me...
it was scaramouche's turn to smirk, satisfied with your changed reaction as he lets out a chuckle.
"took you long enough to realize that i'm your soulmate, loser."
