South Dakotan sculptor John Lopez creates life-sized scrap metal sculptures with a uniquely Western American twist. In his hands, old discarded farm equipment is recycled into sculptures of iconic creatures from the American West like a bison, a horse plowing a field, or a Texas Longhorn.
Here are some in process photos I took for my head sculpture.
Here's the project I had to do before the head sculpture project
Another star dragon! I call this one Ariser the star runner. Coincidentally my little brother has coerced me into staying up with him to see a comet tonight. I'm especially proud of how the wings turned out! They make 'im look like a bright blaze. This guy is a bit bigger than a gold dollar.
I got some of that styrafoam bead goo stuff and was playing with it last night. It's kinda like a stress ball! Only it kinda stinks... so I added some sweet smelling hand sanitizer! Now it smells like strawberry shortcake, lol.
I made some tiny roses! The big one is the size of a quarter. I made a rose out of cheese wheel wax one day during my break at work and my boss commissioned me to make one for her! The red and pink ones are entwined by a green vine at the bottom. I was thinking the dark red and black ones would make good earrings if I could figure out how. Any advice?
