Hey. No. Girl please don’t ever apologize for being the biggest fangirl over your own art. I’ve hemmed and hawed over the past couples days wanting to send a message, but not sure on what exactly to say. So I’ll say it like this: you are so delightfully unapologetically yourself that you genuine make me want to cry *affectionately* and give you a hug. Like have you ever heard the word Meraki? It’s one of my most FAVORITE words ever. It’s a Greek word that best English translation roughly translates to “to do something with soul, creativity, or love; to put something of yourself in your work. To love what you do, is to do it well.” And well honey…you are literally oozing with Meraki, like it just pours out of you and it’s honestly something beautiful. I’m the only one in my family who constitutes as a fangirl and I have received so much slack over the years because of it, especially considering it’s the fact that it’s TMNT and whatever. In fact, I once showed my mom a piece that I was SUPER proud of, like I legitimately thought I had done a good job, and I wanted so much to share it with her because I was so happy with it. I felt like a 5 year old wanting approval “Hey look! I’m growing! I did a cool thing!” And she straight up looked at my piece, saw it was TMNT related and said, “So when are you going to use your skills for something actually useful?” Nevermind my hobbies make me happy. Nevermind that at all. It’s to the point that I have had to make the decision not to talk about ANY of my creative endeavors with pretty much my entire family. I can’t show my art, any of my writing, get excited about character or world building. Nothing. Nada. In essence, despite belonging to an incredibly family who I love dearly, I am basically “Meraki Blocked” around them.

*holds up a hand* Now I don’t share this to garner sympathy or whatever, but to use as an example on why I think you are so incredible. Because you don’t let people get in the way of your Meraki. Like at all. You love, love again and keep on loving no matter what people say. And the best part? Is that you’re a bit older than me and you STILL haven’t lost your Meraki. It’s still bursting from you in the most stunning rainbow of color I have ever seen. Like, I’m so sad to a degree that I only know you digitally because I very much want to just wrap you up in a big ole bear hug, so I can squeeze all my love and appreciation back into you.

Simply put, you INSPIRE me, give me the courage to be myself, and give me hope that maybe one day I could create something so full of love and Meraki just like you. So please, please, PLEASE, don’t ever apologize for loving your character. Please don’t ever try to hide that. It’s beautiful.

Oh man dude thank you so much??? 🥺💓💓💓 This is such an incredibly sweet thing to say. I draw all my personal art out of love and want very much to encourage others to do the same, so to hear that at least one person feels that way from it is like mind-blowingly awesome. Meraki is such a lovely word!

Also, as a fellow only “nerd” in my immediate family, I so get you. It’s tough when you want to share with loved ones but don’t feel like the things you do are appreciated or understood. It’s part of why I love being able to come here and share my August stuff with like-minded goobers. I realize it was just an example story but I’m sorry your fam doesn’t support your just-for-fun joys more. I hope you can build a network of cool people to “play” with your creative interests elsewhere though! I’ve found that with my online buddies and it’s beyond amazing. They encourage me every day and engage with me as I bubble about AUs for hours and I’m delighted when they bubble about their stuff too. I think that’s a large part of why I’m able to share so much of August so eagerly. Every little happy comment in a tag or like or silly gif response to August or Papatello or anything I share is a GIFT that I so appreciate. I’d keep posting even without the engagement but it certainly helps encourage me haha.

Creating is fun on its own, but it’s SUCH a blessing to be able to encourage others in turn. So I extra appreciate hearing how my silly ninja turtle OC has brought you even a little spark of hope or happiness. 🥹💜💜💜 The cool thing about getting older is that your interests don’t always change and you have more experience to pull on when making things for yourself. TMayNT Day 31: Redraw of day one. (Original prompt was: the turtles in you favourite style.)

Ok there are so many ways my brain is trying to be critical BUT I am proud of myself for finishing one of these challenges, no matter what. I've tried and failed to commit to so many projects.

Just to clarify: my own style is NOT my favourite style. I am far too self critical for that. I just entirely ignored the prompt ^^

So for one thing I did want to de-centre Leo a bit, cause the original day 1 prompt was favourite turtle and I DO love them all, Leo just has a special place to me. I also wanted them to not be floating.

Now I do prefer some parts of the original, mainly the simplicity. I do want to try and aim for a more simplified style in the future (if I can stop defaulting to the style I have atm). I might have gone a little overboard with the lighting on the more recent one. STFU up brain, I did not get worse. But it was fun. I think it's good to explore and practice parts of the art process even if it isn't something you want to stick to. I do think I learnt a lot of stuff and made some improvements over the month.

I really think the idea of Leo and Y/N having an “Only I Can Do That “ is so unfairly wholesome and totally would fit. Especially considering Leo is a middle child and a bit petty, so I think that having a relationship he doesn't have to share would be something really important to him. Seeing Leo get pouty because someone made his Y/N laugh is a troupe I'm also a sucker for.

I also really love the idea of Leo being absolutely blindsided by a funny Y/N who was funny in the same way as he (can you tell I'm projecting here? Cuz man I just really wanna roast this kid *affectionately* I have so many lines its not even funny) It would take some getting used for sure, but Leo being Leo of course would get back into the game so fast and boy would he come back swinging.

Whats a little rivalry amongst friends right? Just to prove the best of course. Just to make sure to hold his rank. Not to see you smile like that again. The way your eyes crinkle in the corners. Not to feel your hand on his shoulder cuz your gasping for air you're laughing so hard. Noooooooooooo. Not at all.

I love the idea of Leo finding someone who makes him feel heard and seen because for once someone genuinely laughs with him. Not at Him. 🤌🏼✨💙

I have some thoughts on that too, yeah.

So, I think it's all still depends on Y/N's personality overall. Because you can be a one-liner like Leo, but still have a different or opposite personality to his. This one is more like about taste in humor, I guess?

But yeah, I think his brain would short circuit the moment Y/N would use his own weapon against him or overall, and especially he would explode if their jokes are better than his. That would be the beginning of a war between them, to obliterate one another with their pickup lines and prove who's better. But in the end I imagine them becoming BFF's who are sometimes joke at one another just for laughs. I also have this idea when you call your friend and idiot, and you just laugh, but if SOMEONE ELSE calls your friend an idiot, you go into demon's mode "ONLY I CAN CALL THEM THAT". Something like that.

In terms of romance I'm going to return to my statement about how it depends on your personality overall.

If there's something I'm certain in, is that the romance between Leo and someone who has basically the same personality and mindset would either died down pretty quickly, or wouldn't work in the first place. "Opposite attract" phrase didn't come out of a thin air, because they feed each other. Opposite or just different people help discover some new traits in one another, keep each other in balance, help dealing with challenges they wouldn't be able to deal with by themselves and all that jazz.

Plus it's just overall much more interesting to watch this kind of a dynamic rather than watch two clones trying to be a couple and failing miserably.

1: Classic April look. Live the glasses and how you captured the tenacity in her eyes. Such detail for such a simplenoutlins. I am in awe of your prowess with the pen 😤🤌🏼✨

2: Mikey WOULD be the pop in and our of frame individual #adhd go brrr. Also he is rocking the suspenders 🙌🏼 I am WEAK for Raph in a poncho, like he just St looks so delightfully huggable. Just wanna into his poncho to give him a big ole h u g. Also Leo is slaying it over there with the long trench coat. I appreciate the nod to the “Clothes Don’t Make The Turtles” and low-key wanna try coloring this because it's so clean. Donnie expressions will forever be the light of my life, and this one is no exception. 😙👌🏼🔥

3: I am just in love with the little details in this: the slow drop of the wheat stalk, the hat slipping back, Donnies surprised wide-eyes. Like he looks so absolutely flabbergasted and I love it. April as always is a vision in anything she wears and you certainly did her justice in this outfit, yesiree bob.

4: I legitimately giggled at this. Donnie is one big bad ninja for sure, but put him up to April no matter the AU and the poor pancake boy is nothing but a wet paper towel of a man and I am HERE FOR IT. Like his bum is in the air, he's completely folded over and again his expriession is just *chef kiss* Also how on earth did you get this reference for this pose because it is so positively delightful.

5: *shakes head with a low whistle: Im surprised Donnie didn't combust into flames on the spot when she shot him this look because whew…she is H A W T. Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande can be heard playing

6: Again the tiny details are so delightful: Donnies soft life ok, Aprils carefree laughter, the slight cradle of the small of her back and the gentle but firm lead of her hand. Dance is just poetry in motion and I think you captured this beautifullly 🧡🥰

7: As silly as it sounds, my favorite part of this was how clean the poses and lines of action in the background. It was just clean and expressive and I really appreciate that.

8: Did I mention Donnie is a wet paper towel of a man? Please see exhibit B here. Also we live a woman who makes the first move. Go April, ya queen 🙌🏼👏🏼

Sometimes I get really self conscious about the way I stim thanks to my ADHD.

I’m an all or nothing kind of gal, so it’s really hard to contain anything, especially the happy emotions.

It’s a full body experience for me, I feel it from my head to my toes. Self diagnosed with WBS, Wiggle Butt Syndrome, and I just gotta move.

Sometimes even I feel like it’s too much, so I can’t imagine how other people must feel.

But…then again…I’m the only person at work to get other coworkers to come and dance with me, no matter their age or language. When I see the light that reaches their eyes when they smile at me being silly, the shame burns away under the light of a warmer realization.

That being the type of person who is so unapologetically themselves at ALL times and IN all places to the point YOU encourage people to dance, is pretty tender indeed.

So…it can’t be all that bad right?

Don’t stop stimming friends, you’re beautiful 🧡✨

Random Turtle HC: Raph & Anxiety

*clears throat and approaches microphone before hitting whiteboard with a ruler* A-HEM! Behold my theories peasants!

As we see expresses in the VERY 1st episode of ROTTMNT, the turtles can recognize each others signature scents and can smell fear.

Raph especially is shown briefly through the brothers dialogue to be the most aware and self conscious about said scent to the point of becoming defensive about it.

This leads me to believe that due to both natural biological olfactory senses and increased abilities due to mutation, the turtle brothers (with an advanced ability tipping to Raph due to his size and sensitivity) can actually smell the hormone cortisol.

WebMD defines cortisol as, “Your body’s main stress hormone. It works with certain parts of your brain to control your mood, motivation, and fear.”

Simply put, the turtle boys can literally smell fear.

Now I know you’re asking yourself, “Okaaaaaay cool fun fact I guess, what does that have to do anything with me?”

*takes a step back and adjust glasses with a smirk*

My dear dear fellow tumblr, allow me to share the wonders of mixing fact, madness and media all in one! *sounds of maniacal cackling can be heard*

(I wrote this with the intent to be platonic but it could be romantic if you squint long enough)

•So we've established Raph can smell fear right?

•As a protective big brother who is quite literally in fact “BIG” he knows a thing or two about getting scared

• Especially when it comes to looking out for people he cares about

•Hes been fighting baddies for his family since he was a tot! From keeping away scary dreams at night, from crushed ancient metal zombies to terrifying alien virus monsters, there ain't much he hasn't seen

•So when you join the ranks of the Mad Dogz, you immediately also get a built in prtoector

•Raphs been looking out for the little guys his whole life, what's one more?

•Not to mention you're kinda cute, so he doesn't mind sticking around a little bit closer

•But you're different than most folks, Raph notices. I mean besides the fact that you WILLING want to be friends with 4 mutant turtles of all things.

•No besides your abnormal incredible bravery in looking beyond the status quo to reach out the hand of friendship to these reckless reptiles, Raph noticed that you just kind of…smelled

•Not in a bad way or anything just…you always seemed to have a lingering scent of fear on you

•And Raph would know. Hed recognize that scent anywhere. It's a scent that ghosts every hour of every day for him. Nighttime and being alone especially.

•Raph hates being scared. He's the biggest and the oldest. He's supposed to look after his peeps! And he can't do that if he's frozen with fear all the time!

•So what does he do? Raph faces the problem head on like he always do.

•You get scared a lot. That's understandable, but Raph decides to make it his business that you don't need to be scared when he's around.

•Raph’ll protect ya

•Be prepared to have this turtle subtly (orrer not to much so because although he's a ninja he ain't exactly tactful or subtle) watching you every time you and the gang get all together

•Its not hard. You've always caught his attention for some reason or another. So looking at you is something he does without even realizing it.

•He’s looking for triggers, anything that gets that heart rate of yours spiking and that scent start to waft.

•Fidgeting hands, bouncing knees, shutting down and slinking into your hoodie, nervous chewing, pulling or playing with your hair and pacing, he's got eyes on it all.

•Once a trigger has been spotted, Raph immediately tries to locate the source

•Too many people? Suddenly you find a 6ft something giant turtle behind you, letting you know with his massive presence alone that he got your back. Literally.

•He kinda likes this position because he can see everyone that comes close enough to interact with you and everybody can see him.

•All he's got to do is narrow his eyes a little a give em a flash of that all too familiar snaggle tooth of his if he thinks someone's being mean and he gets his unspoken threat across just fine

•Not to mention you're also close enough to grab if someone he doesn't deem fit for your attention gets a little too close for his liking. But he doesn't say that part out loud.

•Scared of talking? You suddenly feel the cool tip of his massive scaely alligator tail (anatomically correct alligator tail be darned, I'm going with the fandoms HCs for this one) gently wrapping around your ankle as a physical reminder that he's right there here to support you

•Overwhelmed and the world feels like it's closing in on you? Raphs massive size is a natural battering ram that allows him to pass through thick crowds with easy. He's not afraid to help heard you into a quiet little corner away from it all

•Years of practice with Donnie allows him the experience to ask you if you're good with touch.

•If yes, you know you're going to be instantly wrapped into his arms, pulled flushed up against the worn keratin of his plastron. Raph’s always been more of “hands-on experience” kinda of guy anyway.

•Raph gives good hugs. They're firm and tight, padded with the security of arms who have been holding the weight of the world for years.

•He will rest his chin on top of your head, gently guiding your head with the motion ever so slightly so you're somehow perfectly nestled right against his heart.

•It's a loud heart, especially when you're up so close. It's actually his strongest muscle and one he's most proud of. He cares about you, so he reckons he’ll allow you the privilege of getting close to it. In more ways than one.

•Raph doesn't talk much during these special security hugs. He's never really been much good with words anyways. Raph knows sometimes the noise can be too much, but he also knows that the silence can be defeaning. So being a turtle comes with some built in perks that make up a happy medium.

•Hes got a special churr saved for special situations just like this one. It's one of the lowest and deepest ones he's capable of making. More akin to a muted growl more than anything the way it vibrates his chest as you're pressed up against it. You can feel it more than hear it and it just takes a handful of minutes listening to this bad boy before Raph can sense your fear stink slowly dissipating and your natural sweet scent can return.

•Raph can smell fear, and there's something incredibly humbling for this Atlas of a turtle to have the sweet experience of watching that scent drift away whenever he gets the privilege of being close to you like this.

•”You don't need to be scared no more, Sweet Pea. Raph’s got ya. I'm gonna be right here until you're ready to face the world again. Until then, let me just hold ya.”

Random TMNT Thunks

I had to get my windshield replaced today, and I was chatting with the said dude when I noticed a very specific shade of green on his wallet.

My fangirl brain was like “there’s only a handful of fandoms with THAT specific shade of bright green”

Lo and behold, it was indeed my beloved masked boys. We needed up chatting about TMNT and it’s many conduits for the rest of the time.

Nearing the end of our conversation, I turned to the dude and said, “Since you’re my TMNT brother, I feel like you would be the only person to appreciate this.”

And then I proceeded to go to the back of my car and pull out not my one, not my two, but THREE of my katanas. Like the complete casual fan that I am.

I unfortunately get a lot of grief from my family because of my great love and appreciation for TMNT, but once again I was pleasantly surprised at the connections I get to make because of these silly turtle boys.

I know it’s crazy, but you can reach people by being a fan. I got the sweet privilege of being the facilitator of a smile today. Just because I was a silly little fangirl who loved family and ninja turtles, and I will be forever grateful for that.

I can't not tell you the amount of rage I feel after drawing this. Lee from Bayverse movies is my least favorite turtle and the fact he came out decently well BUGS me like none other.
