I had no idea until reading this that there was any mention of Buster’s mom anywhere. And then my Buster-obsessed friend filled me in and showed me this official art.

This fact makes those early character designs for buster even better (he had glasses) that + the fact busters mom and dad have classes too- 😭 I think it woulda be amazing if they had buster needing reading glasses like 😔
Amazing background art by the incredibly talented @cutekoala1001. I commissioned her to draw The Salty Simiano, which is the restaurant from my Sing fanfic. I could not be happier with how it turned out!!! The colors, the lighting, the decorations, the angles, the way she fit so many features into one shot, just...all-around mind-blowing 🤯
As you all know by now, I am kind of obsessed with the anthro primate characters from the Sing movies. For my Sing universe I made up a Latin American-style cantina that welcomes all animals obviously but panders to primates; it is known as a monkey hangout in Red Shore City. It also features sugar skull-type art, except the skulls are of anthro animals 😂 In the picture, the larger skulls on the wall, window and floor are chimpanzee skulls. In the bar area, the two skulls behind the chairs are a deer and a crocodile, and the one by the menu is a dog. The one in the corner by the enclosed seating area is a koala. The area on the floor covered by the skull is a dance floor.
What I love about this piece is that, like all good art, it tells so many stories. I didn’t really flesh the restaurant out very much in my fic, and seeing it here really helps inspire me to create ideas for it:
• That little enclosed seating area by the tree is very cozy, so I can see it being a popular romantic place for couples. But it’s also large enough to seat more than two, so I can also see it as a meeting place for friends.
• The restaurant has live music from time to time. Most of the bands are local Latino musicians, but since this is Red Shore City, you can also find visiting musician stars performing here from time to time.
• The band plays in front of the Salty Simiano logo. This allows for many photo ops, especially with the dance floor nearby.
• If the band knows that there is a romantic couple sitting somewhere, they will walk over to the couple and serenade them. They will also play music loudly in front of shy-looking patrons seated at the tables, insisting that they go out and dance.
• There’s one band that’s really sassy and heckles the crowd all night, in Spanish and English. The singer will butt into a dance and “steal” the guy’s partner from him and tell the girl that she could do better in terms of mates. He says this into his microphone so that everyone can hear him.
• The art in the restaurant is featured in numerous cultural publications in Red Shore City (magazines, etc.). The restaurant has also published a pamphlet that explains the history and meaning of the sugar skulls. Art students also come here for studies.
• The tree was already on the land before the building was constructed, and the tree was special to the restaurant owners (being monkeys). They didn’t want to cut the tree down, so they just constructed the building around the tree and made a skylight so that natural light could filter into the room. As the tree gets bigger, they will remove the tiles that surround it. They hired a professional landscaper to prune the tree in such a way that it will eventually grow through the roof, and they will renovate the building to accommodate the tree. I know this would never happen irl, but I’m kind of a hippy and would love to see this.

This incredible pic of my OCs is a gift by @thecraftedmacaque, and when I first saw it, I was at a loss for words. First of all, I cannot believe how cool my fursona Odalys (the capuchin in the middle) looks, especially her face fur and her tail and her monke feet 🤯 And Mortimer the chimpanzee looks like the sassy science nerd that he is, and Breck the gorilla looks like a totally sweet but simultaneously mischievous friend. Their posture is just amazing and totally captures their aesthetic. 🤩🤩🤩

Your characters are so adorable 🥰 What made you decide on a crested black macaque and a Hanuman langur as your OCs?
Thank you! For Lilac's species, it was the famous "monkey selfie" of a crested black macaque that inspired me. The moment I saw it, I fell in love with this species and began researching it. I was amazed by these monkeys' sensitivity and calm, friendly behaviour. They're now my favourite primates 🐒 As for Connor's, it was a bit more random; I was very undecided at first. One day I was flipping through an illustrated primate guide, saw the Hanuman langur and decided that would be Connor! I was looking for a large species that could fit the "fun-loving & dynamic" type I had in mind for him and I think this one does!

Summary:
Odalys has been practicing ballet all week and manages to elicit praise from the demanding Klaus Kickenklober. At the moment that he appears impressed by her skills, however, she gets dragged into her friends’ antics and punishment.

“Empty your pocket,” Klaus commanded. Odalys reached into her right pocket and pulled out Breck’s rubber band ball. Klaus held out his hand, and she gave it to him. His fingers closed around the ball. He glowered at her but said nothing for a few moments, as though awaiting an explanation.
“Um, that’s not mine,” she began.
“Nonsense!” he exclaimed.

“The cleaning supplies are in the janitor’s closet,” began Klaus. “You will scrub the shower, clean the toilet, wipe down the sink and mirror, take out the trash, and sweep and mop the floor. And when you are finished, you two,” he pointed to Breck and Mortimer, “will come to my bureau immediately to assist me with office tasks.”
“Yes, Mr. Kickenklober,” they all said. The dance instructor turned and walked briskly in the direction of the small room that served as his office. He unlocked the door, opened it, and entered, closing the door behind him.
“Office tasks?” Breck asked.
“Looks like Klaus lost another secretary,” Mortimer remarked.

Odalys del Mono crushes on Klaus Kickenklober when she enrolls in one of his dance classes by mistake. Her ignorance of ballet, however, along with the stupid pranks of her class clown friends, don’t exactly help her make a good first impression.

“Oh, wait a minute, it starts with a P,” Mortimer began. “Probis...prunis...prenis...penis. Yes, that’s it! He’s a penisface monkey.”
“Mortimer!!” Odalys shrieked at him while Breck moaned into his hands.

“But in all seriousness, Odalys,” said Mortimer, “are you really going to keep going to Klaus’ class? Because I think he will eventually figure out that you are not a ballet instructor.”
“Yeah,” agreed Breck. “I mean, you just met him, and he already put you in third position timeout for like thirty minutes.”

So I would say that, in the Moon Theatre troop, there are exactly two competent adults. Rosita is one competent adult. And then when you add everyone else together, they amount to the equivalent of one competent adult.

I Would Rather Date Klaus Than Buster
Buster Moon fans, please don’t cancel me for saying this.
If I were to choose between dating Klaus Kickenklober and dating Buster Moon, I would choose Klaus. Because Klaus wears his heart on his sleeve. I would never have to wonder what he’s thinking. Buster, on the other hand, is a liar. A very cute, fuzzy liar with charmingly expressive ears, but a liar nonetheless.
Dating Klaus would be like:
Klaus: 😡
Me: I see you’re mad. Again.
Dating Buster would be like:
Bank teller: I’m sorry, ma’am, we were unable to approve your application for a mortgage.
Me: Why not?
Bank teller: Because your credit score is too low.
Me: Why is my credit score low?
Bank teller: Because you defaulted on the credit card that you opened last year.
